Couple great close matches last night: Ura vs. Meisei (top) and Daieisho vs. Shodai (bottom). Yet another example of why balance, flexibility, and agility are necessary in sumo. It's about so much more than just trying to push one another around the ring.
(Also, nice to see the shimpan remember how to call a mono-ii...)

Konoha Academy History (all dates are approximate based on the data book)
According the the Official Fanbook, the Nidaime, Tobirama Senju, founded a shinobi training camp at the base of the Hokage cliff approximately 50-60 years before the start of the series.
The first term created 36 graduates, it begun as an educational venture to produce fresh shinobi, but soon merged with military and domestic facilities, becoming the academy around 40-50 years ago.
The Sandaime, Hiruzen Sarutobi, during his time as Hokage he carried out two expansions of the academy (first was 30-40 years ago, and the second 20-30 years ago) which refined the education and training systems, and upheld stricter standards on students.
To be accepted into the academy, there are three core requirements to be met:
1. You must love the village and hope to help preserve peace and prosperity.
2. You must have a mind that will not yield, able to endure hard training and work.
3. Be healthy in mind and body.
Instructors at the academy are chosen through selection exams, this practice started around 40 to 50 years before the series. They follow a motto coined when the academy was founded, ‘Development as shinobi with respect to individuality’, to promote an open minded environment for students to strengthen their bodies and minds.
Below is an image showing the delegation of shinobi to aid the academy system:

I'm SO FUCKING PROUD of kiribayama kirishima, god we've needed a new ozeki since mitakeumi and shodai dropped down. tbh I still have a very small amount of bad blood for mita given how he sort of clung to his rank by pulling that dropout a while ago, but obviously I have bigger beefs (beeves?) to be grumpy about (still fucking livid about november don't come for me, also still pissy about ryuden but whatever at least he doesn't bring his shittiness into the ring). now if only wakatakakage and hosho (motoharu too?) could only get up there... god I miss kage, I hope he's doing ok 😔 not as much as I miss tochi obvs, but I'm still really really sore about his retirement don't talk to me lmao

one piece chapter 1113 spoilers
i'm curious if the sword that nusjuro gorosei has could rlly be shodai kitetsu
in this chapter the hilt and blade were finally more visible when he was seen using the sword, as opposed to in the previous chapters where the focus wasn't on the details of how it looked, but more on the attacks themselves (if i remember correctly)
it looks so similar to zoro's sandai kitetsu:
"Sandai Kitetsu is a moderately curved katana with a white edge and a distinct blue hamon that has the appearance of flames. Its tsuba is golden and shaped like a rounded cross pattée." (x)
and to nidai kitetsu (that luffy had in wano for a brief time)
"Nidai Kitetsu is a moderately curved katana with a light purple edge and a distinct blue hamon that has the appearance of flames. Its tsuba is gold and shaped like a rounded cross pattée." (x)
it'd make sense the gorosei has one of the most powerful and legendary swords, as well as the first one in the kitetsu line
it also makes me wonder how he even got it.

Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity of the appetite, for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of sixty more than a boy of twenty. Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals.
Episodes 2-4 (finale) of Mirai e Kimi to. are now subbed! You can find them all on my site, or by clicking on the episode links in this post.
Episode 2 focuses on the elder sister Saki.
Episode 3 is centered on Yuu's and Saki's mom and a mysterious man in her life.
And lastly, the finale is from the perspective of Umi, the eldest member of the family.
I hope you give this mini-drama a try! Be sure to stay for the credits as well (especially in the final episode). If you enjoyed it, there are also the behind-the-scenes videos for you to go through!

The Legacy
The sun hung low in the sky, casting long, solemn shadows across the packed courtyard. It was the first memory Tsunade could truly grasp, something tangible in her young mind that would never leave her. There had been other memories before this, fragments of laughter, the warmth of strong arms lifting her high, the deep rumble of a voice that could fill the room with joy. But those were fleeting—snippets of something almost too perfect to remember fully.
Today was different. Today, at nearly four years old, Tsunade stood at the front of a sea of faces, her tiny form dwarfed by the towering presence of the clan heads, shinobi elites, and her own family. This was not the same warmth she remembered, not the private smiles exchanged behind closed doors in their family estate. This was cold. This was public. A funeral for the Shodai Hokage.
Not for her grandfather.
No, the mourning for her grandfather had already happened, hidden away from the prying eyes of the world. She had been allowed to cry for him in the privacy of her clan’s home, tucked between her grandmother’s arms, clutching her grandfather’s familiar robes that still smelled faintly of him. But here, in front of all these people, she was not mourning her grandfather—she was witnessing the farewell of the God of Shinobi, the Shodai Hokage, Senju Hashirama. And the weight of it felt unbearable.
She stood between her grandmother and her grand-uncle, her tiny fists clenched at her sides. The adults flanked her, pillars of strength that she couldn’t yet understand, couldn’t yet mimic. She stared at the large portrait at the front, a painting of a man who seemed both familiar and impossibly distant. Her grandfather, smiling as he always had, his warmth radiating from the canvas. But here, amidst the crowd, it was as though he was a stranger.
So many people. She marveled at how vast the gathering was. Clans from every corner of the village, leaders of nations, shinobi whose names she had heard whispered in reverence. All of them here for him, for the Hokage.
Is this what it means to be Hokage? The idea struck her, gnawing at the edges of her young mind. To be surrounded by all these people, yet so alone in death? The thought terrified her, though she couldn’t yet articulate why.
As she stood there, words from long ago whispered at the edges of her memory. She could almost feel the weight of her grandfather’s large hands as they rested on her shoulders, could almost hear his deep, comforting voice telling her that one day, she could be Hokage. That she had the strength, the will, the bloodline to lead. Back then, those words had filled her with pride. Back then, sitting in his lap, nothing had seemed impossible. She had believed him.
But now, standing there, staring at the sea of mourners, she realized with a sickening certainty that she didn’t want it. Not any of it.
Her small fists clenched tighter, nails biting into her palms. If being Hokage was so special, then why was he dead? If being Hokage was supposed to be such an honor, why had it stolen him away from her? Why couldn't she still run to him when the day ended, climb into his bed, and wrap herself in the warmth of his laughter? Why couldn’t she hear his voice anymore?
Being Hokage was nothing special. If it were, he’d still be here. He’d still be laughing. He’d still be alive.
She refused to cry. Her throat burned with unshed tears, her vision blurred slightly as her eyes stung with the effort of holding them back. Crying would be admitting defeat, and she wasn’t ready to surrender to this grief. Not here. Not in front of all these strangers who mourned the Hokage, but didn’t understand what she had lost.
And so, she stood there, fists trembling at her sides, as she took her first bitter taste of what the future held for her—a future filled with expectations, with responsibilities she hadn’t asked for. A life as a kunoichi, as a Senju, as someone who would always be compared to the man in that portrait. A legacy she would never truly live up to, a burden placed on her tiny shoulders before she even knew what it meant to carry it.
When the time came, she bowed. It was expected of her, a ritual she barely understood but performed with the grace instilled in her from birth. One final bow, her body bending stiffly as the crowd remained hushed. The green crystal around her neck—a new addition to her small figure, gifted to her after his passing—swayed with the motion, catching the sunlight as she straightened.
The necklace was heavy against her chest, its weight a reminder of the man she had lost. To the world, he had been a god, but to her… to her, he had simply been 'ojii-san'.
And now, both were gone.

Let's learn more about sumo!
Featuring a match between Shodai and Tobizaru.
Gyoji : A gyoji is a referee in professional sumo wrestling. You will hear him shout "Hakkeyoi!" at the beginning of a match. Unlike this match here, typically the gyoji will try and not interfere with the action. Though they have been known to get knocked off the dohyo from time to time... Learn more about the gyoji HERE in this video.
Gunbai : The gyoji uses a paddle looking device called a war fan (the gunbai) to conduct each match. At the end of a bout he will point to the winner's side of the dohyo. Though disagreements can be made about his call, which is when the judges get involved and replays are used to make sure the win is given to the correct person.
Kenshokin : What is the white envelope a rikishi (sumo wrestler) receives after winning a bout? Inside the envelope is kenshokin, the prize money given to the winner. The money is usually provided by businesses. It's a way to publicise a company and its products. The company names are announced inside the arena, and their corporation banners are shown on the dohyo before a bout. A popular rikishi such as a yokozuna can earn a substantial amount for a victory.

UNPROMPTED
( always accepting )
@kaizokugaris said: " When did you get that sword ? " (thinking about hcs you made sjsnsn)
FOR MORE CONTEXT ABOUT SHODAI ITSELF, GO HERE FOR MORE CONTEXT ABOUT THE HC'S THAT OTHER MUN IS REFERENCING, GO HERE
"Not telling. Especially when you keep giving Shodai the stink eye. I thought you liked blades? You even still carry around Sandai around, even after all these years. I obtained my sword fair and square. Plus, I'm positive that the steel is just happy to be used again after so long. I know you are just jealous of the grade but you have Wado and Enma, that's enough don't you think? I'm never giving up this meito so you will just have to get used to it Roronoa".
The blade itself is taunting the pirate hunter, little unheard whispers of jeering and threats. Mostly the type of 'This woman is going to die anyways. Why don't we all speed up the process no? Although, she's quite indestructible. Can fall down stairs on a daily basis like it's nothing. Her luck is better than yours' and a few other ones that dare not be repeated as they are quite risqué for most people to hear within an earshot.
