Final results
So, I went and used my imagination and got 2 Sherliam stories and 1 Hualian 'cuz why not. The only thing I need to do is pick the best one of these three, so again, I ask for your help. Oh right, on a side note, Sherlock's name was changed to Samuel, and Xie Lian and Hua Cheng were changed to Xinquan and San Lang respectively.
Story One
Once upon a time, two souls met their fateful end. William and Samuel, they were called—or so the legends say. Some say they leapt from the bridge's edge, their bodies swallowed by the dark embrace of the river below. Others claim they got pushed into the Thames, around the time of 1885.
But it's not the manner of their death that sends shivers down the spine. It's what they do in the hours of the night. They say William's spirit, restless and vengeful, seeks out the bodies of evil men, who use their power for a bad cause, killing, for example. Some say they've seen him, drifting through the halls of large estates, his eyes burning red as he whispers curses to those who dare to cross his path.
And Samuel, they say, walks the streets with purposeful intent, his ghostly presence a silent guardian for those walking down the streets of London. They say he appears when least expected, his ghostly form a reminder that even in death, love has no bounds.
So beware, of the bridge that spans the Thames and the shadows that lurk in the corners of the night. For you never know when you might catch a glimpse of William and Samuel, the restless ghosts who haunt the hearts of men with a vengeance born of their love.
Story Two
It was a moonless night in 1885 when William and Samuel, as the old tales tell, stood upon London Bridge, their hearts heavy with the weight of untold secrets. Some say they were star-crossed lovers, torn apart by the cruel whims of society, while others whisper of a bond forged in the fires of rivalry and hatred.
They say William and Samuel made a silent pact, a final act of defiance against a place that had failed to understand them. Hand in hand, they stepped off the edge of the bridge, their bodies plunging into the Thames below. William’s brother, Albert, ordered a search party, without luck, as their bodies were never recovered.
But their spirits, they did not find peace in death. They lingered still, their souls bound to the mortal realm by the bonds of unfinished business.
Some say William's restless spirit seeks out the bodies of evil men, who use their power like a weapon, for a bad cause, killing, for example. They say he haunts the large estates and mansions of the aristocrats, his eyes burning red as he whispers curse of vengeance to those who dare to cross his path.
And Samuel, they say, walks the streets of London with purposeful intent, his ghostly presence a silent guardian for those who seek justice. They say he appears when least expected, his ghostly form a reminder that even in death, the power of love knows no bounds.
Story Three (Hualian version)
Once upon a time, in a land where gods and spirits walked among mortals, there lived two souls whose love defied life and death. Xinquan and San Lang, they were known, a fallen god and a vengeful spirit, their bond forged in the fires of destiny.
Legend has it that Xinquan, a revered deity, had been cast down from the heavens, his divine powers stripped away by the hand of fate. San Lang, a ghost hidden in shadows and sorrow, haunted the mortal realm with longing and regret.
Their paths crossed in the depths of an ancient temple, where Xinquan, encountered the vengeful spirit of San Lang. Bound by fate, they went on a journey that would challenge the very foundation of existence.
But fate is unpredictable. It is said that Xinquan and San Lang, burdened by the weight of their forbidden love, made a vow, a pact sealed in the middle of the night.
Hand in hand, they walked the path of no return.
However their souls still lingered, their ethereal presence an oath made of the  power of love.
Some say Xinquan's gentle spirit wanders the ancient temples, his presence a comfort to those who seek solace. They say he appears when the moon is full, his celestial form a beacon of hope.
And San Lang, they say, roams the forgotten corners of the mortal realm, his ghostly form a guardian to those who defy the fate. They say he walks the earth with purposeful intent, his eyes burning red as he watches over the ones he loves from afar.
Listen to these words, and remember the tale of Xinquan and San Lang, the lovers whose spirits still linger in the corners of the world, their love eternal and solid, which flows through the heart of time.

My media this week (5-11 Jan 2025)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
a spot of bright, pure joy this week was the return of the Questing Queens
📚 STUFF I READ 📚
😊 How Women Made Music: A Revolutionary History from NPR Music (NPR & Alison Fensterstock, author; Alison Fensterstock, Ann Powers, et al., narrator) - overall good and I really like the goal of the book + hearing snippets from interviews with actual musicians is fantastic. but I really, really wish that some of the general essays about artists (as opposed to specific album reviews) from the previous iterations in 2017/2018 had been updated bc writing about Britney Spears/Beyonce/Buffy Ste Marie in 2017 doesn't address some important recent developments in their careers and makes this feel irrelevant and historical rather than an actual new book. Also this is very much a 'dip in & out of' kind of book rather than reading straight thru which is why I started reading mid-Dec and am just finishing now.
😊 Roommate Wanted (furyofthetimelords) - 61K, stucky AU where they're both independent superheroes with secret identities and those identities become roommates (oh my god, they were roommates!)
💖💖 +200K of shorter fic so shout out to these I really loved 💖💖
It Could Be So Sweet (riverlight) - You Should be So Lucky (Cat Sebastian): Tony Ardolino/Connie Newbold, 3.5K, Yuletide 2024 - absolutely perfect tone
Preserving Lemons (ihopeyoubothstaysafefromharm, saintgarbanzo) - HP: drarry, 17K - this made me crave middle eastern food a whole lot
just my job five days a week (Artifactrix) - The Martian: Gen, 1.8K, Yuletide 2024 - short but nailed Watney's voice
blue skies ahead (Infinity456) - 9-1-1: bucktommy, 19K - really enjoyable canon adjacent omegaverse AU
On The Other Side of a Downward Spiral (torakowalski) - MCU: stucky, 31K - post-WS recovery fic + accidental baby acquisition; reread but I love it
Of Wolf and Man (thisapplepielife) - Stranger Things: steddie, 5.5K - I extremely love werewolf!Steve Harrington (even when there's no monsterfucking)
Virtute (oliviacirce) - The Eagle | The Eagle of the Ninth: marcus/esca, 6.5K, Yuletide 2024 - fun, hot
Wide Open Spaces (WakeUpDreaming) - D20 Fantasy High: Gen, 1.6K - sweet little vignette during Summer of the Night Yorb
📺 STUFF I WATCHED 📺
Handsome - Trace Lysette asks about dating pet peeves
Brilliant Minds - s1, e1-13
D20: Dungeons & Drag Queens - "Princess and the Paramours" (s2, e1)
D20: Adventuring Party - "She is the Tower of Babel" (s19, 1)

[have now watched Magican's Apprentice through Girl Who Died + skimmed clara and missy's wiki pages]
okay like
Why would Missy need to set the Doctor up with Clara, specifically
Because it needed to be a companion he'd become so obsessed with, he'd break the laws of time if she died. He wouldn't do that for just anyone. He didn't break time for Adric etc.
How did Missy choose a companion that the Doctor would be obsessed enough with to burn the world for
By finding someone who reminded her of herself.
If Clara dying and becoming immortal or something (haven't gotten there yet) was Missy's plan, then why didn't that ever come up
Either: it was a mystery thread that quietly petered out without really paying off (which is better than a mystery thread that loudly implodes and takes a character arc down with it, so no one really cared that much). Or: it was a mystery thread that was designed to potentially be picked up again in a later season.
Would a Moffat thread pay off in an RTD season
Maybe! They're friends; they've probably had conversations about un- and not-yet-realized plotlines; Moffat's writing the upcoming holiday special
Is it relevant that Ashildur (Clara's immortality buddy if I understand the wiki?) keeps getting described as a storyteller
Maybe not, writers love The Power of Storytelling plots, could be a coincidence. Unless,
Why does Mrs. Flood cosplay Clara, Missy, and Romana
So existing fans will be prompted to recall those characters and their storylines? So new fans will see all the "she just cosplayed Clara, Missy, and Romana!!" posts, and be prompted to go back and watch their storylines for context? So we'll all have them fresh on the brain when s2 starts?
(This is suggesting to me that I may need to do a Romana Watch btw)

Hmmmm idk how i feel about the end of s2 with mycroft disappearing and the weird fling he had with joan. I was really looking forward to sherlocks and his relationship being repaired and sort of rekindling that brotherly love. Another person who loves sherlock and wants to see him well. Idk im sad we wont see that.

Doctor who spoilers in the tags ! Empire of death
#doctor who spoilers#a little!#acting was 100/10 from everyone involved all around#fucking excellent. millie gibson crushed it in a big big way wowowowow#the dialogue still kinda bothers me lmaoooo god it just feels so ham fisted#just shoving the message of the episode down my throat like! where is the trust in the audience#there are a lot of nice 1 on 1 scenes though that are well written that i really liked#sometimes i wish they didnt like pull a sherlock#cause the doctor and ruby do a lot of figuring stuff out and planning off screen so they can reveal it in the moment#but idk i like to see hints earlier#let the audience have a couple clues into the plan yk#anyways#thats a small thing#i love the set design so much#but how tf did they switch outfits in that tiny ass tardis LOL it was#for once#not that much bigger on the inside#i like the reveal of rubys mother#and it was super interesting characterization for the doctor to want her to leave her be#its so... idk its so him lmfao. like so 13 so 11 in so many ways so i like that#plus maybe a bit of him wanting her to stay and travel with him? a little bit of selfishniss mr time lord 🤨#one thing i will say is that rtd should probably consult actual adopted people a little better before he writes a whole storyline about the#just a PERSONAL GRIPE i have#lmfao ALSO hello ms flood said the most clara oswald coded shit ive ever heard in my life this episode#rtd what are you doinggggg#tell meeeeee#also hang the fuck on. unit can search through dna samples from the future ????????????? am i hearing that correctly#i know they can make a damn time window so maybe pulling info from the future is like baby stuff#but that seems#really really wild

look man, my biggest issue with BBC Sherlock is the fact that hey FUCKED UP season 4. the wrecked it. who the fuck is this Euros person??? Why the fuck does Sherlock & Microft need a random secret sister who’s been tucked away in a maximum security prison/asylum thing for decades??? We didn’t know about her & we could have lived our lives without knowing about her bc she means nothing to the story. She is but a random Moffat/Gattis OC. Which is cool, IG???
But She adds NOTHING! to the story, she doesn’t provide character development, nothing. She may add stress to Sherlock when she abducts John. Yeah, but that’s minor & doesn’t mean much bc that’s just their constant dynamic they could have done the same thing with a rando abducting John off the street or whatever.
the silly flashbacks of their childhood??? Dumb, unimaginative, didn’t help Sherlock or Mycroft at all, only traumatized Sherlock to the point he completely blocked her out of his head, & my biggest issue with this is that their parents literally would not have dealt with a child like her the way they implied by shoving her away. Meeting Sherlock’s parents in season 2 show two loving, caring normal parents who don’t seem the type to do that to a child of theirs, specially forget them & not mention them during the holidays or whatever.
What doesn’t work with Season 4 is the fact that it just does not fit with the storyline. It was randomly put together with duck tape & chewing gum & it shows.
I appreciate the fan service they did to all of the Moriarty girlies. (Me included) bc god Do I love Andrew as Moriarty. But! They literally could have Added Moran instead of Euros & the story would of stayed the same but made even more sense bc Seb at least has an actual very real bone to pick with Holmes & I am not saying this bc I literally run a Sebastian Moran fan club with my two Moran Accounts. But because if they wanted to do the random “revenge” plot thing they did with Euron working with Jim before he died to get back at sherlock or Mycroft or whatever the fuck the plan was. It would have made a whole lot more sense of the whole shit show at the of season 4 somehow tied up to Jim’s “game” back in season 2 & we would have gotten to see Moriarty working with Moran to continue fucking with Holmes bc FUCK! that would have been a whole lot more compelling to the story & would have touched back to how Holmes NEEDS Moriarty to keep him stimulated. & if Jim places any type of interesting scheme to get his attention even after fucking death. Except he planned it before it. & Moran was in charged to continue that now then be it but fuck, I hate so much what they did to ma lads in season 4 😭😭😭
Since Sherlock Holmes is trending... I know yall love to shit on BBC Sherlock, saying how you only liked it back then bc you were cringe teens. I also know that the second they'd announce a 5th season, yall would keep crawling back immediatly.
I know bc I would.

Just saw a Sherlock Holmes play in London and the actors (and writers) managed to nail the essence of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson far better than any live action adaptation created in the past 30 years has.

helloooo this is a MASTER POST of my Sherlock Holmes annotations, aka shitpost doodles of my favorite parts with occasional headcanons. I will pin this so it's available and update it as I go because this feels like it's becoming a full series, god help me.
I'm reading the stories in the order they occurred (according to Baring-Gould, who I am currently arm wrestling in the astral plane over how many wives Watson had) so that's how I will present them!
EDIT: decided to draw them in the order that makes sense to me, Baring-Gould you’re too silly
EDIT 2: this is basically a webcomic at this point, with ongoing continuity and a romantic storyline that can be enjoyed if you read in order. I did not intend this, but I have Sherlock Holmes disease and there's only one cure (doing this)
EDIT 3: content warning/advertisement depending on your temperament: this series gets into one of my big interests, historical queerness, period accurate homophobia, and how laws around queerness affected lived experience. it also has things that you can expect from a Sherlock Holmes story like: drug use involving needles, violence, flagrant use of old timey guns, and people dying in shocking and mysterious ways!

peak television is when a detective comedy does a serial killer/kidnapper storyline that spans across multiple episodes throughout multiple seasons where the perp is fixated on the happy-go-lucky protagonist and things get serious™ and the comedy is toned down and it's soooo good
bonus points if they're a sherlock holmes adaptation

Parentlock headcanons.
- Rosie grows up to have surprisingly curly hair. John has no clue how to deal with it. During a particularly frustrating hair day Sherlock just stepped in and fixed it with ease, John being in awe at his skills only for Sherlock to point out that he, in fact, ALSO has curly hair. Also because of that fact sometimes people assume she’s his instead of John’s
- Rosie makes up crime cases in her play pretend and Sherlock gets genuinely invested in her storylines. On occasion he gets annoyed by the inconsistencies of the criminal since obviously Ken was nowhere near the deceased Barbie at the time of her disappearance but he’ll let her have her fun
- Sherlock does not stoop so low as to sing lullabies…but he might play a few on his violin to soothe Rosie to sleep
- Sherlock refuses to talk to Rosie like a child and uses his regular advanced vocabulary, resulting in Rosie using impressively big words and expressions before she’s even started school
- Rosie kept insisting on calling both of them dad, despite their combined efforts to get her to stop. Eventually it just became a habit for both of them to turn around when she called for her dad. The first time resulted in an awkward silence
- Rosie makes “deductions” about her classmates in primary school (ie pointing out their flaws to their faces) and John gets called in for a meeting with her teachers. John’s embarrassed but Sherlock’s not.
- generally John picks Rosie up from daycare & school, but on rare occasions Sherlock is given the mission to pick her up. This usually results in John receiving a concerned phone call from one of the unaware teachers if Sherlock is actually allowed to take the child with him
- as a teenager, Sherlock knows when Rosie’s breaking the rules. He waits in her bedroom with a cup of tea as she climbs back in through her window in the middle of the night. However, she’s usually got dirt on him too, storing body parts in the fridge next to the takeaway and whatnot, so they end up making a “I won’t tell John if you don’t” kinda deal
- At one point Sherlock is questioned on why he refers to Rosie as his daughter when he’s her godfather, he casually explains that God is a ludicrous invention of mankind in an attempt to explain the existence of life so if the word “God” in “goddaughter” doesn’t mean anything to him, why should he include it?
- Sherlock still experiments around the flat despite the toddler running around but he watches her like a hawk and she doesn’t ingest anything toxic under his supervision ever

What if BBC Sherlock had 22 episode seasons and we got to have filler episodes with storylines like Sherlock and Mycroft having to team up for a dance competition?
