Okay, so no one's appreciating that Mr. Bad literally subverted the "she fell first, he fell harder" trope by having the male lead fall first and also be the one to fall the hardest (with one of the cutest enemies-friends-lovers story about healing and acceptance, with no 2nd lead syndrome)?? You're telling me Hidden Love stans (who let's face it are majority of Chen Zhe Yuan simps) missed out one of his best and lovable characters just bc they're too immature to view it as a different one?

okay.... too bad for you, apart from the ending (and the chemistry which is up for debate, but whatever), Mr. Bad absolutely delivered.

With moshang I think I'm equally fond of the possibilities/concepts where either Shang Qinghua is ludicrously attractive to demons in a broad sense (but doesn't realize it), or, where Shang Qinghua is just some weird little gremlin and everyone else cannot wrap their head around why THE Mobei Jun is so smug about seducing this man.

Or a combination, where no demon in their right mind would ordinarily look at Shang Qinghua and perceive a sex icon, but because such a high-ranking demon has clearly done so, they go "well there must be SOMETHING going on there" and then look closer and before they know it they're on the slippery slope to being horny about a guy who could help file their taxes or arrange to have their clan base's faulty plumbing fixed.

Basically it's all good. Demons en mass going "yeah yeah big scary dudes who punch good are a dime a fucking dozen around here, but do you know how hot someone who can skillfully use an abacus is?" vs demons going "the ice king is a respectable ruler but he has garbage taste in men, we all just smile and politely nod while he insists the weird rat guy he fixated on as a teenager is a catch" vs demons going "I really don't see the appeal -- wait he did what? he killed how many guys at once with 1 trick? he betrayed WHOMST? and lived?! and he knows how to get my door to stop making horrible squeaky noises?! okay yeah figures the king would marry him" but every option is a winner.

I'm also a big fan of both Shen Qingqiu and Shang Qinghua being not very attractive to demons in general, but it also being really common for demons to get super weird about first crushes and fixate hard on them, so in that sense they are completely normal choices for a couple of high-level demons to marry. Like the demon populace can appreciate the emperor actually landing his hot teacher and the king successfully marrying his teenage sweetheart. It's an idealized fantasy in terms of the scenarios, even if the actual guys are just weird humans. Nearly every average demon has lifelong daydreams about successfully seducing their first crush, so regardless of who those crushes turned out to be it's still a power move for LBH and MBJ to actually succeed.

Bonus if the fact that both SQQ and SQH are peak lords from the same sect leads to a bunch of demon kids developing crushes on the other remaining, unattached peak lords, and chaos ensuing. Especially for Liu Qingge. I think it would be funny for him to gain a flock of teenage demons with crushes, whom he keeps trying to fight off, only to discover that beating them up does NOT discourage them at all (actually makes the crushes worse). Or Yue Qingyuan getting mobbed like he's a pop star any time he makes a diplomatic visit to the demon realms. Sha Hualing deciding that she's just waiting for Liu Mingyan to become a peak lord before they make things official, since That's Obviously How It's Done, or Qi Qingqi doing a head count one day and realizing she suddenly has a bunch of unfamiliar "guest" disciples who sigh at her a lot and have funny-colored eyes...

Propaganda for each:

Xin Mo - Luo Binghe's sword that possessed his mind demanding blood sacrifices via controlling his obsession and was powerful enough to rip through space, time and alternate universes. The culprit behind the fuck to save the world trope in svsss.

Fangxin - the sword Xie Lian was stabbed with during the One Hundred Swords incident and that Bai Wuxiang gave to him to use after. It has an elegant black blade and has arguably been used more against its owner than any other enemies.

E'Ming - Hua Cheng's cursed scimitar forged through sacrificing his right eye during his ascent to Mt. Tonglu's kiln in an attempt to save the lives of people that had accompanied him in the quest. It notedly acts like a puppy towards Xie Lian, cries, demands pets and attention and has a massive praise kink canonically.

Xiu Ya - Shen Qingqiu's prestigious and highly acclaimed sword with an impressive sword flash and that SQQ complains often about not being allowed to fly on due to Airplane's low fantasy worldbuilding.

Xuan Su - Yue Qingyuan's sword tied to his life force after a cultivation incident in his youth. Badass enough to subdue opponents even unsheathed, canonically considered the most impressive cultivation instrument. The only thing that makes seeing three inches of it exciting.

Suibian - Wei Wuxian's sword named by Jiang Fengmian as a joke, it sealed itself the moment it was taken away from its master never to be drawn again (or so everyone thought). It is noted to be powerful because only high level spiritual instruments are able to seal themselves like this. The catalyst to the golden core reveal.

Bichen - Lan Wangji's stunning and powerful sword that can cut through anything including trees that its master cut down due to gay panic after kissing his blindfolded crush. Its claim to fame in the fandom has little to do with its remarkable strength, though.

I really like the character development at the end of SVSSS. Luo Binghe is totally ready to give Shen Qingqiu space if that's what he wants. Fortunately that is not what Shen Qingqiu wants. He wants clinginess and indulgence. So sweet.

And Yue Qingyuan is like: "Qingqiu-shidi is safe and at peace. Now my heart can be too."

Airplane got his man.

Liu Mingyan is making the literary world gayer and freakier, a true icon.

Meanwhile Liu Qingge is just like, *throws hands in the air* "I guess!"

b.) Can I ask your opinion on the comparison between bingqiu, wangxian, moshang, and hualian (their plus and minus sides)?

1:

I love all the main couples, but just based on the pairing alone I'd say Hualian, from aesthetics to the journey they went through, it's all very pleasing to look at. As some say, Hualian invented love

2. All of the ships of SVSSS, a rarer favourite of mine being Zhushen. But I enjoy all of them, and I enjoy the character dynamics in any flavour of romantic, platonic or something more unique.

3. That one passage in SVSSS where it talks about Qing Jing being a daycare for ADHD children kills me every time, Xie Lian's iconic "I cannot get erect" and Wen Qing's and Wei Wuxian's whole "Thank you, and I'm sorry."

4. They're all super entertaining! No shade to Bingmei, Wangji-xiong and Mobei-jun but I'd have to say Hua Cheng, reason one being: He's the cuntiest. His jangly boots? Cunty. His monologues? Yes. (When his little monologue to Qi Rong was animated in the donghua I was OBSESSED. I need to be him.) Also I love what he's done with ghost city specifically.

5.Shen Qingqiu, AKA Shen Yuan.

The narrative style immediately hooked me due to its humor, and the special way he looks at the world in part due to transmigration and in whole due to his own mindset and character made it so much sweeter. His journey from beginning to end, especially when we get to the extras makes it so impactful when you return to the beginning and see such a stark difference. His little quirks, and how he's practically unarmed against politeness is hilarious.

Watching him struggle and come to terms with the personhood of the people around him was gratifying, and unfortunately for me, slightly relatable.

He's just so supremely enjoyable.

(Honorable mention here for Wei Wuxian, I adore the sibling dynamics in MDZS so much, especially Yunmeng Trio. I will be forever thankful to the untamed for it.)

6.a)Oh this is HARD.

I am only on Volume Six of TGCF, but from what I've seen of beefleaf so far... It wins. Qijiu devastates me continually, but He Xuan offing Shi Wudu in front of Shi Qingxuan? The tragedy is incomprehensible. The connection between beeflead is worse than dead, it's tainted irrevocably. And the worst part is I can't bring myself to blame just one person. Shi Wudu's motivations compel me, and He Xuan's are completely justified.

And Shi Qingxuan is caught in the middle. Losing a brother to a dear friend. He's the nexus of tragedy in this case.

6.b)

Devotion is the characteristic that strikes me as a throughline of all the pairings, Bingqiu, Moshang, Wangxian, Hualian.

(I'm going to try and keep this short lol)

Shen Qingqiu's devotion is fully demonstrated in the Holy Mausoleum arc, and Luo Binghe's is clear to anyone besides Shen Yuan.

Shang Qinghua's devotion is demonstrated during Maigu Ridge, and when Mobei-jun is left vulnerable during his subsuming of the ancestral Mobei martial aspect. And Mobei-jun's devotion is so beautifully and gently demonstrated through the pulled noodles.

Wei Wuxian's devotion isn't given as much of a spotlight due to the circumstances and time it takes him to get to the point of realization and acceptance, but his continual attentiveness and inherent trust in Lan Wangji, are clear even in his first life. The confession is a clear moment of devotion to me.

Lan Wangji's devotion is well chronicled. His very life is built around devotion. His musical compositions reflect it, his ideals are inspired by it, his family is grown by it. In Wei Wuxian's second life there isn't a moment where Lan Wangji isn't in a mindset of devotion. I think his greatest act of devotion, (though I think there was more than simple devotion at play) was his decision to take in Wen Yuan.

I cannot speak as well for Hualian, as I don't have the full context yet, but what is the bond between God and believer if not devotion? A beautiful form of devotion is worship, and Hua Cheng is a skilled master at all forms of it.

Since Xue Meng could not receive a holy weapon from Jincheng Lake, he used Longcheng, a high-quality scimitar from Taxue Palace. From what I remember, Mo Ran gifted him the Wangshu Crystal from the Carp Essence that was requested by Song Qiutong to help him cultivate/add to his sword, making it something similar to a “heavenly weapon.”

Shuoyue - Lan Xichen's sword (MDZS)

Hello, Riki...if you don't mind me asking (again), after re-reading SVSSS, can I ask your top 5 (or top 3) favorite characters from SVSSS? And why you loved them? And your top 5 favorite moments from the novel? Thanks if you want to answer....

Top five favorite characters!!!

Shen Yuan: Obvious, he's hilarious, love this stupid man. Our wonderful protagonist who gives deep insight into the people he's surrounded by. I love watching things unfold through his POV.

Luo Binghe: Again, probably obvious. I loved how unhinged he is, he doesn't care, and he doesn't hide the fact that he doesn't care. He has a single goal and by god he'll achieve it even if it means literally destroying the world.

Liu Mingyan: Spreading false stories, writing RPF about what is essentially teaching staff in her school and schoolmate, spreading heresies, and stealing Luo Binghe's harem via saucy mlm fanfic all the while giving the most Top energy. The woman you are <3

Shang Qinghua: Love it when he loses his shit. Iconic of him to actually fucking scream at Mobei-jun He's such a twisted little man I want to dissect him.

Shen Jiu: I've been funny with the rest, but Shen Jiu makes me hurt so much. He's been through way too much and he wasn't able to fight it. Left behind, falling behind, talents wasted, manipulated and turned into this cruel, awful person. He's just a very sad character.

Favorites scenes!

Shen Qingiu v Tialang-jun and Zhuzhi Lang in the Holy Mausoleum. The scene where he's in the Mobei Clan chambers, bloody, broken, but his gaze is cool as he awaits his opponents was so badass. Him in the entire Holy Mausoleum is so cool!!! He's so awesome!!! When he says he's going to make the place fight for him??? Protagonist Halo was on SQQ in that moment!

"What's you name?" "Six Balls" "What does that mean?" "When I was born my Pa said I weighed six balls".

The Shen Jiu flashback scenes, the very first one we get when SQQ sees a young Shen Jiu tied up and glaring while he's trapped in the Qiu household. That scene's pretty chilling.

The Heavenly Demons discussion where Luo Binghe's asking how to make a person like you and Shang Qinghua's like "act pathetic!"(inevitably sealing his own fate as MBJ begins to look at his human subordinate VERY differently)

When Yue Qingyuan at the end of the novel tells SQQ to go to LBH, and SQQ describes it like his past(YQY) is one side, while his future(LBH) awaits on the other.

Special mention; Shang Qinghua saying that the best stories are gay<3 Damn right they are
