BIO:

Singer, songwriter and producer Shannon Dooley (born Shannon Katharine Dooley) is no stranger to the industry.  Currently holding 4 full-length albums under her belt she emerged onto the music scene at age 17 with her debut project Uniquity, a pop-rock original band hailing from New Haven, CT.  With Shannon's powerful stage presence and the band's catchy songs they quickly developed a cult following throughout the Northeast and tri-state area playing to thousands at various music venues and radio festivals as well as recording their debut album 'Uniquity'.  She soon branched off creating the same viral path founding, fronting and co-writing for pop-rock band Gia, with whom she recorded her sophomore self-titled album ‘Gia’.  Shannon and former bandmate, producer and co-writer Joshua Swetts went on to record two more experimental rock albums titled 'Mystic Wave' and 'Clouded Judgement'.  

Shannon began singing at a very early age and quickly took up violin, piano and writing music at the age of 9.  A self taught guitarist by her teens, a purchase of her Korg Triton catapulted her into becoming proficient at sequencing and creating beats, writing pop, electronic and trip-hop driven music which paved the road for her ability to quickly pick up music production.

Kingdom Hearts IV predictions: Radiator Springs/Dinoco Rust-eze Racing Center/Fireball Beach/Thunder Hollow/Thomasville/Florida International Speedway (Cars)

Takes place after Cars 3.

Is visited by Sora, who enters the world as a 2017 Nissan 370Z before visits to Luigi��s Casa Della Tires and Ramone’s House of Body Art end with him modified into a next-gen race car sponsored by Dinoco (with Tex’s blessing) and with Cruz’s number.

It isn’t combat based. Missions include keeping up with McQueen’s top speed by racing down Radiator Springs’ main street, learning how to turn right to go left at Willy’s Butte, driving backwards with Mater, keeping up with Cruz’s top speed on Fireball Beach, avoiding pushy competitors with the Thunder Hollow challengers, and practicing with Cruz at Thomasville, culminating in the Piston Cup race at Florida International Speedway, where the objective is to win against Jackson Storm.

It’s set during Cruz’s first Piston Cup racing season, so McQueen still has Doc’s colors and spends the Florida race as Sora’s crew chief. Also, Ramone wears his “Saludos Amigos” body paint from the epilogue of Cars 3.

As Sora finishes his story, Mater is certainly unhappy with Xehanort’s actions forcing Sora’s hand. “That dad-gum Xehanort”, he says angrily. Extra points if Sora doesn’t get to the part where Xehanort is dead, then Sarge gets in his face and demands him to teach Xehanort a lesson when he gets back in a militaristic manner. “Is that understood,” Sarge yells. Then Sora tries to correct him, but gets cut off and asked again, “Is that understood,” and has to respond, “Sir, yes, sir!”

Of course, during the top speed races, Luigi is the one to signal the race to begin. In the Radiator Springs race, Sora’s top speed is tracked by Sheriff’s speed radar, and on Fireball Beach, it’s via Cruz’s personal assistant, Hamilton.

If you fail the “Turn Right to go Left” mission, Sora goes flying into the bed of cacti, and Mater fishes him out.

Cars 2 elements will be here. Heck, maybe Mater can’t be present most for the training because he’s busy with Finn and Holley. After all, does he still owe Holley a first date?

I wanted the player character in this world to be Kairi just so Storm can feel the embarrassment of losing to not one, but two “costume girls”.

The Piston Cup race is announced as a 500-lap race, but no game developer is that malicious to force the player to race 500 laps around an oval, so they’d take after the first Cars game and make it twelve laps with the sun slowly lowering throughout the race.

1915: HPL Output - Part 2.

Intro: Continuation of Howard's "(The) Ballad of Patrick Von Flynn", which was 1st printed in HPL's political mag The Conservative - in 1916.

Text:

Then they started (upon) England & my heart beat quick with pride, As about "...British perfidy"¹ they babbled & they lied.

I thought we Irish could invent the rankest Billingsgate,² But wondrous are the fishy yarns these Dutchmen³ can relate!

My friends that had come with me were so moved with martial ire, (That) they (crowded) round (a) rusty stove to argue & perspire.

I grew so patriotic that I took my hat in hand, And shouted " (Salute the) Kaiser and the dear old Fatherland!"

Be that we'll lick (those) Brits within a fortnight⁴ sharp, And join in one triumphant flag, the eagle & the harp!⁵

Then all began to fraternize; Mc Nulty & von Bohn, O'Donovan & Hunster- berg, von Bulow & Malone.

In Bacchic⁶ bonds our pact we sealed; in harmony serene, We sang at once "Die Wacht am Rhein"⁷ & "Wearing of the Green."⁸

Old von der Goltz picked up a brogue;⁹ in Dutch young Dooley sang; Amid Prussian & Hibernian¹⁰ strains the ancient rafters rang!¹¹

Now all at once, a magic... crept into my bones, And my... voice burst forth - in Prussian tones!

I felt a strange sensation & in fancy (I) seemed to see, Instead of dear old Shannon's¹² banks, the gently rippling Sprec.¹³

No, not the Spree¹⁴ (do) I mean, but that which... flows, Through (the) Deutschland('s)³ grassy leas,¹⁵ where war & culture grows.

(Alas!)¹⁶...Where am I now? (And) what conflict am I in? Do I belong in Dublin¹⁷ town or back in Berlin?¹⁸

A week ago my son was born; his christening not far off; I wonder will I call him Mike or Frederick Wilhelm Hoff?

(It's) hard indeed for one like me to know just where (I'm) at; I wonder if my name is Hans or if it('s) still Pat?

But let me bore you all no more; the proper course is clear. I'll slander¹⁹ England all I dare & reason never hear.

A loyal 'neutral' I shall be in all my words & work, And never speak except to praise the Dutchmen & the Turk!²⁰

1. Usually means someone who's "deceitful" & "dishonest."

But, it can also be somebody so dangerous they are "treasonous" & "disloyal."

2. Once, the name of the world's largest fish market - which was in London from 1850 to 1873.

Being that Lovecraft hated seafood, I imagine that he's going for the "foul" stench of such a place.

3. Dutchmen once described any folks from Germany, Switzerland, Austria & the Low Countries - Luxembourg, The Netherlands & Belgium.

Now, it's the preferred term for people from The Netherlands alone.

Dutchland once referred to Germany only.

Now, it's used to describe speakers of the Germanic languages - Germany, Flanders, Austria, Switzerland & The Netherlands.

4. A fortnight means a period of "14 nights" or "2 weeks."

This is because the Anglo-Saxons counted time spans by "nights."

5. The German eagle is a symbol of the sun, the life force & the highest God.

Strangely enough, the German coat of arms uses a black eagle with a red beak, tongue & feet on a golden background.

As for the Irish harp flag, it's a symbol of resistance to British rule since the 1800s.

Strangely enough, it was seen as such a powerful emblem - that the British actually banned it for a time!

6. Bacchic is anything related to Bacchus, the Greek god of wine!

This ancient god was worshipped with drunken orgies.

So, It's not surprising that this god is mentioned.

In its original form, "Ye Ballade" is written as if the narrator is pretty drunk!

7. "Watch on the Rhine" is a patriotic German song written in 1840 by M. Schneckenburger.

It was originally inspired by an earlier poem, "Rheinlied" written by N. Beck- er in the same year.

Generally, "Watch" is sung to music composed 7 years after its writer died!

8. "Wearing of the Green" is an Irish street ballad lamenting the repression following the Irish Rebellion of 1798.

Its lyrics claim that "they are hanging men & women for the wearing of the green."

"Wearing green" supposedly made one invisible to leprechauns!

Since its original writer is unknown, the best known version is from play- wright Dion Boucicault.

These lyrics were 1st found in his 1864 play "The Wicklow Wedding."

9. Brogue has 2 different meanings from 2 older words:

A. The "outdoor shoe" or "boot" mean- ing is from the Old Norse brog, "leg covering."

B. The "accent" meaning is from Irish barrog, "speech impediment."

Nowadays, it refers to a distinct local accent - especially an Irish or Scottish one.

10. Hibernia is the Latin name for Ire- land but, it was taken from old Greek geographical accounts.

During his exploration of Northwest Europe, Pytheas (Greek sailor) knew Ireland as Ierne.

Tacitus (Roman historian) is the 1st to use Hibernia.

This spelling was influenced by Latin Hibernus, "wintry land."

11. Rafters weren't people sailing down rapids - at this time.

Instead, the rafters here are sloped beams that transfer the roof's weight on to the load-bearing walls.

This allows buildings to remain stable & withstand wind & snow loads.

That they "rang" only means that they "echoed" the song being sung by the Irish men.

12. The Shannon is the largest river in the British Isles.

It's name is shared with the Shannon Pot (a large pool), far in the North of Ireland - where it begins its South bound journey.

Strangely enough, the "Pot" is actually connected to other pools in the area - via Shannon Cave system...

The story is that Sionnan (the "wise" goddess) lifted the cover off a well - which promptly erupted!!

Then, the new river flowed on South, dividing Ireland in two!

13. Sprec seems to refer to the Old English ("Anglo-Saxon") word of ge- sprec, "the power of speech!"

This describes cheerful people who make jokes, trying to make others feel comfortable.

14. The Spree is the main German tributary flowing North into the larger Havel River.

Strangely enough, just above the city of Spremberg, the Spree splits into 2 temporary streams!

In Berlin, the Spree is part of the local trade network.

15. A lea is an "open area of grassy land" better known as "a meadow" or "a field."

16. Alas means "an expression of pity, sadness", "disappointment", "regret" or "concern."

17. Dublin ("black pool") is the capital of Ireland. It's nicknamed "The Pale (City)" & "The Big Smoke."

This city has long traditions of literary & cultural history.

Weirdly enough, Dublin holds 2 types of mummies!

There's preserved bog bodies & Saint Michan's 800 year old mummy, who reaches out of his coffin - to shake your hand!!

18. Berlin (West Slavic "swampy?") is the capital of modern Germany.

It's nicknames are "The Grey City" & "Athens on the Spree."

Weirdly enough, Berlin hosts plenty of strange things to do - from guided ghost tours to museums of unheard- of 'things' & even off-menu cocktails!!

19. "Lies told to damage anyone's or anything's reputation."

Here, Britain's reputation is called into question.

Weirdly enough, that's all that the narrator plans on doing!

It's as if the Irish were unable to even plan & mount any other kind of violent resistance...

But, of course, we know that Howard was trying to put everyone (who wasn't Anglo-Saxon) down - to fit into his 'race's' created caste system.

20. During WW1, Turkey was under the control of the Ottoman Empire - which sided with the Central Powers.

In the early years of the WW1, Turkey fought defensive battles to strangle the Russian war effort & tie down British troops & war materials.

The Ottomans did this because the Central Powers promised them control over some Russian territories.

But, they lost their gamble & the war.

The Turkish fought & won a war of independence in 1919, concluding the end of the Ottoman Empire.

After a few changes in government, the Republic of Turkey was born on October of 1923.

Criticism: < "Hybrids & Hyphenates" by Rob Brown.

Lovecraft was a writer whose political & social commentary have become foder for learned discussion.

For anyone who's interested in Ho- ward's personal writings, they're full of problematic bigotry & imperialistic politics.

Both permeate most of HPL's works.

Although, most of his personal aspirations came from classic English masters, Lovecraft was widely read enough to have perused thru various translations of ancient thought.

Among them, some 'fantastic' Irish literature.

Yet, Howard would only highly praise the Anglo-Irish writers, loyal subjects of the British Empire!

Cultured folk set apart from the lower- class Irish immigrants that HPL knew in his native Providence.

One particular nasty bit of work, was Lovecraft's racist poem "Ye Ballade of Patrick Von Flynn" by Lewis Theobald, Jr - one of Howard's many pen names.

HPL wrote it in a mocking & drunken 'Irish' slang.

In it, Lovecraft accused the Irish of colluding with the enemy Germans!

Further, Howard presents the Irish as an inferior & traitorous working class!!

"Ye Ballade" is an example of HPL's jingoistic attitude towards everyone who wasn't of White Anglo-Saxon lineage.

Only minorities who were culturally indoctrinated in Anglo-Saxon mores were acceptable to Lovecraft.

Otherwise, even honest Irishmen de- served to be mocked...

DNA Magazine: Sweet Revenge Will Fill The Screen When Matt Backer And Drew Weston Debut Film

Ever wanted to get even with your high school bully? Local theatre hunks and DNA favourites Matt Backer and Drew Weston are doing just that, well sort of. 

The two actors have written a short film of vengeance, also paying homage to the slasher films of the Nineties. Described as Fleabag meets Final Destination with a dash of Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion, Die Bully Die tackles homophobia, gay shame, forgiveness and bearing a grudge! 

Admit it, we’ve all dreamed of it!

Speaking to Matt Myers about the inception for their Die Bully Die! show, creators Matt Backer and Drew Weston explain that it’s loosely based off their experiences in high school and facing down old bullies through art.

“I went to an all-boys Catholic school in the Nineties and had a rough time. I held onto it for way too long and it affected my growing up in becoming an adult and my relationships,” says Backer. “I came out quite late at around thirty because of that damage, but I’m now happy working as an actor with a supportive and loving family.”

Feeling that the past is always present in our lives, Backer also saw a chance to create some interesting characters which he developed with Weston. 

“Drew and I get along so well,” he says. “We have the same sort of humour and we thought this was a great concept to write, play and produce. So, we drew from my experiences to create the story and it’s now evolved into a greater metaphor for trauma. It’s not necessarily just homophobic or queerphobic but something relatable to people in letting go of the past. It’s about tackling the future with greater hope.”

Set in a plush restaurant, the plot sees Max (Backer) meeting up with his high-school bully Adam (Weston) after a sixteen-year gap. But things don’t go well and Max’s grudge manifests into revenge of the classic teen-horror comedy genre.

“I had a different high school experience to Matt,” says Weston. “I had a little bit of bullying, but nothing to the extent that he had. In Die Bully Die! my character bullied Max in high school and he’s turned out to be gay himself. It’s a frustrating situation for Max, but Adam is there to apologise, which doesn’t really go to plan!”

For Weston, the experience has been a learning curve in producing and writing as well as acting. He also sees the production reaching beyond the LGBTQIA+ community. “It’s a universal topic,” he says.

“Whether it’s bullying for being gay or overweight or a cultural background, everyone can relate in some way, whether as the victim, witness or actually the bully who now realises what they had done.”

“It’s seen through the lens of the Nineties slasher films we grew up with, which sells well. It’s more Black Mirror than a sentimental ‘woe is me’. But even though it’s full-on, it does have some heart-warming moments.” 

The film also stars Ben Gerrard and Shannon Dooley, with Nick Annas and Ethan Lamb-Kelly playing younger versions of Max and Adam. Production is taking place around Sydney with aspirations to extend into a full-length film or series.

Backer and Weston are also looking for support from the community, with a crowdfunding account set up through the Australian Cultural Fund. 

“The crowdfunding is going great, and support has been beautiful,” says Backer.

“A lot of people have been through a similar journey, but we also have wonderful allies too. They want to see this type of story and the Australian Cultural Fund has been fantastic in providing our crowdfunding platform. We wanted to support an Australian organisation that supports local artists, and it also helps that donations through there are tax deductible!”

365 Day Movie Challenge (2017) - #176: Other People (2016) - dir. Chris Kelly

Chris Kelly, who is co-head writer at SNL, made his directorial debut with this dramedy based on events from his own life, concerning his mother’s final year battling cancer. Jesse Plemons plays a fictionalized version of the filmmaker, David, who takes time off from writing for SNL to move back home to Sacramento and help take care of his ailing mother, Joanne (a fantastic Molly Shannon). David spends time with his younger sisters (Maude Apatow and Madisen Beaty) and their maternal grandparents (June Squibb and Paul Dooley) and he also reconnects with his closest friend in town, Gabe (John Early), but David must also deal with his extremely tense relationship with his father, Norman (Bradley Whitford), who has never been comfortable with David being gay. David’s stress levels steadily rise: an exciting family trip to New York City turns sour when Norman refuses to visit the apartment that David shares with his ex-boyfriend, Paul (a wonderful Zach Woods); the pilot that David has written for ABC is rejected; and eventually Joanne advances into the final stages of her illness.

There have been numerous films in recent years that focus on cancer – 50/50, The Fault in Our Stars, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl – and unlike in those films, romance is refreshingly given a minimum of screen time in Other People. The physical and psychological struggles of Molly Shannon’s character are rightfully given center stage, allowing the former SNL star a rare showcase for her dramatic acting ability, which is as subtle and finely tuned as that of any actor known for doing “serious” movies. It is a joy to see so many great comedic performers in smaller roles as well; besides the aforementioned performers, Other People also features J.J. Totah, Retta, Lennon Parham, Matt Walsh, Paula Pell, Kerri Kenney-Silver and Colton Dunn.

If there are weaknesses in Other People, they are perhaps in some aspects of the characterization of David (it’s not necessary for a protagonist to be likeable, but I think Jesse Plemons was occasionally lacking in how he presented David’s internal and external conflicts, which may be an issue with the writing as much as with the acting; his angry showdown with Bradley Whitford was great, though) and in the absence of personality in David’s two sisters, Alexandra (Apatow) and Rebeccah (Beaty). For the most part, however, Other People tells its real-life tale with heartfelt, sometimes raw emotion and no shortage of candor.

BRIEF BIO —

margaret carter, founder of s.h.i.e.l.d., has been having an interesting time since the end of the second world war. the s.s.r., it seemed, was ( although not keen on serving women in the first place ) even less inclined to give a women a shot, and thus she felt for some time reduced to a coffee-carrying glorified secretary for men like chief dooley and perhaps the most patronising of all — agent jack thompson. 

however, when her close friend howard stark gets himself caught up in a congress investigation regarding stolen inventions of his, she is recruited by him to clear his name and try to recover the weapons; all without attracting the eye of her fellow agents, and with the assistance of his butler, her countryman edwin jarvis. it leads her along a road of chaos as howard’s inventions — stolen and sold along — create more and more havoc, and ends upon the brooklyn bridge disposing of the last sample of steve rogers’ blood as a last goodbye.

however, she didn’t expect to have to clear her own name as a heavily redacted file seemingly about an m. carter begins to circulate, accusing her of war crimes, as her colleague jack thompson ponders using it as blackmail. 

who also accompanies her as the focus slowly turns to a russian group known as leviathan, and the deadly assassins of the red room, including one dottie underwood, putting her and all those she cares about ( even including l&l automat worker angie martinelli, who she has come to call a friend ) in danger. the trail becomes more dangerous still when zero matter and fanatical actress-scientist whitney frost comes into the equation, seeking to use it for her own ends and to��‘advance’ humanity beyond imagining. 

the ‘m. carter’ file comes back into focus when agent jack thompson is shot and the file stolen — and the investigation, to peggy’s horror, leads her to her not-so-dead brother michael who has turned to the very organisation peggy had spent years of her life struggling against, forcing her to choose between family and what is right. ( being who she is, of course, she chooses the rightful path. )

later, howard stark approaches her for help to run the new s.h.i.e.l.d. and she becomes one of its founding members, the successor organisation to the s.s.r. she had by then spent some time in both new york and l.a., and decided to pursue feelings for angie ‘in spite of her better judgement.’ she married for cover ( her husband being privy to the truth ) so that she and angie could have a relationship with lesser fear of danger / persecution. she and her husband have a child. she had been spending some years with shield when on november 8, 1956, shortly after the re-election of dwight d. eisenhower to the presidency, she was thrown to new york — a city she knew, but in a different time, with people she knew to find there.
