An open letter to the U.S. Congress
Pass the Supreme Court Biennial Appointments and Term Limits Act NOW!
239 so far! Help us get to 250 signers!
Supreme Court decisions impact every American and every aspect of our lives. And yet, the majority of Americans have lost faith in the Court’s ability to act as a neutral arbiter of the law. Each session, the Court hands down decisions that are increasingly divorced from the values and viewpoints of the American people. It’s time for Congress to restore public trust in the Court by creating term limits for the Supreme Court. A supermajority of Americans—7 out of 10support passing term limits for our highest court. The Supreme Court Biennial Appointments and Term Limits Act, introduced by Senator Whitehouse, would create 18-year term limits and give presidents two Supreme Court appointments during each term they are in office, creating a Court that is more representative of the American people. No other major democracy in the world gives lifetime appointments to judges, and 49 of our states already have term limits, mandatory retirement ages, or elections for members of their highest courts. It’s time the federal government follows their lead. As a constituent, I am urging you to become a cosponsor of the Supreme Court Biennial Appointments and Term Limits Act and build support among your colleagues in Congress. It’s time to restore trust in the highest court in our land.

If Silicon Valley whistleblower, Keri Kukral says there is something wrong with the Los Angeles FBI, then you should definitely believe her. The woman usually has excellent information, including multiple warnings on the damage that Sexual Blackmail aka Honey Potting has had on governments around the world. There sure as hell has been some very public organized crime going on. So, what' IS going on in L.A. with the local F.B.I. chapter? Why does Senator Whitehouse not address it?

Also am I absolutely crazy to think these election results are just like... Off. I mean you're telling me that a bunch of Republicans went out, voted for abortion rights, and then voted for Trump. Is that what we're saying happened? For real?

Joan McCarter at Daily Kos:
Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Dick Durbin is failing at his job of holding the Supreme Court accountable. While he continues issuing stern statements and making floor speeches about Justice Samuel Alito’s recent flag scandals, he isn’t actually doing anything about it. Now other Democrats—like Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island and Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland—are stepping up to fill the leadership void. Alito already blew off Durbin and Whitehouse’s demands that he recuse himself from insurrection-related cases, despite his display of Stop the Steal flags. Whitehouse followed up with a letter Monday, inquiring about a tax case from which he pressed Alito to recuse himself.
Before the hearing for that case, Alito was interviewed for The Wall Street Journal by one of the lawyers, David Rivkin Jr. In the article, Alito declared that both he and the Supreme Court are above the law. Whitehouse wrote that it “appears that you offered an improper opinion regarding a question that might come before the Court; did so in the context of a known ongoing legal dispute involving that precise question; did so at the behest of an interviewer who as a lawyer represented a client in that ongoing dispute; and did so to the benefit of his client, your personal friend, and to the benefit of yourself, as a recipient of undisclosed gifts that are the subject of our investigation.” “I note that the Supreme Court is the only place in all of government where issues of this nature have no place or means of investigation or resolution,” he continued. “So far, my questions regarding these events seem to have disappeared into a black hole of indifference.” This letter is likely to fall into the same black hole, but it does help build the case against Alito and the rampant corruption he and fellow Justice Clarence Thomas have brought to the court.
So disappointed in Sen. Durbin’s inaction on the SCOTUS corruption crisis. #DoBetterDurbin

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse tells it like it is: 'one crew, one plan, one cancer in the body politic'. (Daily Kos)
I'm cutting and pasting this text from one of today's Daily Kos newsletters that land in my inbox. I think that Senator Whitehouse is possibly the smartest senator among the 100. He's a Democrat from Rhode Island and always has the smartest and bravest observations when matters are particularly ugly.
"Below is an unrolled string of tweets from Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse about our political predicament. More of our Senators should be talking like this and joining Whitehouse’s relentless attacks on the corruption and authoritarianism eating away at democracy.
Our current situation should give Dems a rejuvenating chance to focus better on fixing what’s gone wrong in America.
We face three huge threats: persistent internal attacks on our democracy, unbridled climate upheaval, and a captured Court with some deeply corrupt justices
Behind each threat is dark money; massive anonymous political spending by special interests who hide their identities from the public.
The political class has reoriented itself to this new reality, pivoting to the big secret spenders. Voters notice they’re not so important anymore. An entire dark-money ecosystem has been spawned, with front groups, ‘Donors Trusts,’ coordinating 501c3s and c4s, and superPACs.
This whole filthy bestiary of influence is new (or refocused and expanded) since Citizens United. It didn’t used to be this way; it doesn’t have to be this way.
Democrats keep voting to get rid of dark money, and Republicans keep voting to protect dark money, but voters have no idea. We basically haven’t told them.
Which is pathetic because voters hate dark money with a passion, Republicans, independents and Democrats alike. Polling is off the charts.
(When done, that is; too often pollsters blow the dust each year off their polling questions from the ‘90s and this question doesn’t get asked!)
Climate change is out of control because of a massive dark-money politics and propaganda operation run by the fossil fuel industry.
Before Citizens United, climate was a bipartisan concern (see McCain 2008 platform); fossil-fuel dark money killed bipartisanship.
The Court was captured by a dark-money operation funded by creepy polluter billionaires and managed by their creepy minion Leonard Leo.
The ‘amenable’ justices are instructed via coordinated flotillas of dark-money amici curiae, with correlation near perfect between instruction and result.
Republicans are complicit in all this because the dark money behind these schemes is also the dark money billions behind their political operations.
It’s a trifecta; dark money is behind climate denial, Court capture and corruption of Congress — one crew, one plan, one cancer in the body politic.
Democrats should be blowing the whistle on the whole dark-money rot.It explains so much, it has obvious villains, and it has the added benefit of being true.
We are in a war for our future and we should behave that way.

The Media and Trump: A Dangerous Symbiotic Relationship
Tumblr media
The media and Trump have undeniably played significant roles in shaping the political landscape and the state of democracy. However, their relationship has been far from constructive. In this article, we will explore the reasons behind Trump's reluctance to join debates and the media's failure to challenge him effectively. Both parties have contributed to the erosion of democracy, and it is crucial to address these issues head-on.
The Media's Love for Sensationalism:
The media, like a train wreck, thrives on chaos and sensationalism. Unfortunately, this has resulted in a focus on the negative aspects of humanity, neglecting the importance of highlighting the good. This trend has been decades in the making, with the media capitalizing on the ideal time in history to sow doubt in the minds of the vulnerable and neglected. Government, business, industry, and individuals have all played a role in perpetuating this cycle in the pursuit of power, money, and control.
Wealth Disparity and Questionable Leadership:
It is disheartening to witness the immense wealth disparity in our society, with a small percentage of the population holding more wealth than 90% of Americans. This raises questions about how unqualified, unpatriotic, and questionable individuals have been placed in positions of authority and influence by governments. Both sides of the political spectrum are to blame for this, as Trump himself acknowledged the Republican party's susceptibility to manipulation.
The Power of Ratings:
Trump has tapped into the power of ratings, which has become the lifeblood of media and the root of all evil. While money may be the driving force, it needs the soil of ratings to thrive. The media has inadvertently fueled the rise of Trump and those who aspire to be like him. As long as his antics bring in ratings, the media will continue to air them, perpetuating the cycle of train wrecks. This symbiotic relationship has allowed Trump to make a mockery of everything he touches, further endangering democracy and our way of life.
The Need for Media Course Correction:
The media, in all its forms, could have been a true ally for democracy. However, it has chosen chaos, misinformation, propaganda, disinformation, deception, and manipulation over truth, justice, the rule of law, ethics, and morality. It is disheartening to see that the media has nearly given up on humanity. The urgent question now is whether the media can course correct. Can it challenge those who have declared war on our democracy? Can it stop the ship from sinking, a ship for which it has drilled holes?
A Call for Serious and Adult Conversations:
While getting Trump to the debate stage may provide some entertainment, it is essential to challenge all those who are destroying our country and democracy. Blame falls on both sides, and it is time for a no-nonsense, in-your-face conversation about implementing real change and improving the lives of all citizens. Foolishness will not be tolerated. The media and the American people are ready to meet any challenges head-on. It is time to act, and the choice is yours, America.
Conclusion:
The media and Trump have had a detrimental impact on democracy. Their symbiotic relationship, fueled by sensationalism and ratings, has contributed to the erosion of truth, justice, and ethical journalism. It is crucial for the media to course correct and prioritize the values that underpin a healthy democracy. Only through serious and adult conversations can we address the issues at hand, challenge destructive forces, and implement real change for the betterment of all citizens. The time for action is now.

AOC's filed articles of impeachment against Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.
Should have gone for Kavanaugh too, at least. And of course there aren't actually enough votes to impeach or convict now (hopefully this will change soon). The best we can hope for is probably that it will push more Democrats to take a stronger stance on court reform. Still, it's something.
The Senate can do more, right now, since Democrats have a majority there. Ie hearings, and subpoenas to justices to testify under oath. Senator Whitehouse's letter to Attorney General Garland calling for a Special Counsel to appoint a special counsel to investigate Clarence Thomas is a good move too.

Senator Whitehouse is a real American hero, who consistently tries to educate Americans about the dangers of Leonard Leo and the far-right plot to hijack the U.S. federal judicial system.
This is the diagram that Sen. Whitehouse was using in the above video:
Tumblr media
The Judicial Crisis Network (JCN), which is behind the smear campaign against Judge Adeel Mangi is part of Leonard Leo's network. It is funded by the same far-right, would-be oligarchs who gave us our current far-right Supreme Court.
What is ironic is the far-right justices on the Supreme Court have worked hard to tear down the wall between church and state for far-right "Christians." Clearly not for anyone else.
So it makes perfect sense that the Leonard Leo's JCN was behind the smear campaign against Judge Mangi, the "first Muslim federal appeals court nominee."
Leonard Leo and his dark money funders are all about "freedom of religion" for me, but not for thee.

Sen. Whitehouse Slams Baseless Dark Money Attacks on a Historic & Highly-Qualified Judicial Nominee

Meteor Blades at Daily Kos:
Below is an unrolled string of tweets from Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse about our political predicament. More of our Senators should be talking like this and joining Whitehouse’s relentless attacks on the corruption and authoritarianism eating away at democracy.  In my impossible fantasies, the bulk of Democratic Senators would sign onto Whitehouse’s take here and submit it as an Op-Ed to The Washington Post. But that, of course, isn’t going to happen. Here’s Whitehouse in full. (If you prefer, you can read it at X/Twitter. )
Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) is right: There is “one crew, one plan, one cancer in the body politic” that is wrecking America’s future, and that is because of right-wing dark money interests and the compromised MAGA majority on SCOTUS seeking to eat away at our once-robust but significantly weakened democracy.
