Headcanon #2

00 agents and enrichment

00 agents are like cats, they need a huge amount enrichment in their lives to keep sane, or they’ll start scratching up all your furniture. Translated to humans, this means blowing up random objects at best, and outright defection at worst. This was why M largely let them be, no matter how many cars or embassies they blew up.

After Q takes over, he tried to give every 00 the human equivalent of a catnip mouse so they would stop breaking their equipment already.

004, Scarlett Papava, is one of the most sensible 00s of the bunch, though she still had an abyssal record compared to normal agents. Q learned she liked to study architecture in her spare time, and challenged her to design a impenetrable fortress for Q-Branch to dwell in.

006 likes fires and knives a bit two much, but Bond sneaks Q a tidbit of information. The next time Alec comes a-prowling for miniature explosives, Q introduced him to the team responsible for inventing and testing them. He also makes sure to shake the man thoroughly so he doesn’t sneak anything out.

And as for 007? Q just makes himself the carrot and dares Bond to find out facts about him in a any range of time. His favorite kind of food? Q will give him a month. His favorite music? Two weeks. Needless to say Bond is too occupied to intentionally breaks equipment after that.

no yeah that was me, just forgot to sign off! i think your idea is hecking neat as well (and yes i am a fairly intense vocaloid fan as well! and project sekai but we aren't here for that. milgram started in august 2020 and we're at the tail end of the second trial now). was the project itself named after the experiment? yeah probably, a lot of focus on how es is being made to be the one doing this by jackalope (chris in this au. but also fun fact jackalope does all the cooking. so basically, chef as a marginally larger jackalope in a chef outfit). jackalope also says that es can judge by how much they like the prisoners which come on. tell me chris wouldn't do that.

I expect all of my rules to be read, as this portrayal is based on only SOME of her original lore. When I follow someone, it is always after I have read their rules and about page. This is an independent writing blog for an original interpretation of the Caraval character known as SCARLETT DRAGNA. However, it is important to note that this portrayal is in no way connected to or written in conjunction with the Caraval or Once Upon a Broken Heart series. Scarlett is unaffiliated with her original canon and is based on mixed lore from various pieces of media and fairy tales, including SOME of the Caraval canon. Much of the writing done on this blog will be based in realms of fantasy and will include aspects of the supernatural. I DO HAVE ALTERNATE VERSES FOR WRITING IN NON-MAGICAL SETTINGS. Any headcanons that you see here are mine and mine alone.

As previously stated, this characterization of Scarlett is mixed media based. Much of my inspiration for this interpretation comes from various fairy tales, as well as multiple interpretations of the Major Arcana from Tarot divination card decks. While the stories that have inspired this interpretation are not mine, nor is Scarlett herself, the collective narrative found here is my own. Please do not lift any content that you see here.

This blog is mainly PLOT-BASED. I love world-building and creating complex dynamics between muses. I prefer writing in third person. You're more than welcome to continue any memes I have written for you; sending memes and plotting are the best ways to get things going with me! Scarlett's main and default arc is based in a fantasy realm consisting of five empires. She is the empress of one such empire called the Meridian Empire. In this world, there are beings called Fates, which are similar to gods, as well as humans. My interpretation of this world includes the existence of many other supernatural and fairy tale folk; this makes plotting and writing with other fantasy muses quite easy in terms of adapting and synthesizing lores.

Scarlett is half-Fate on her father's side with her mother having been a human. She's only recently become Empress and likewise recently discovered the truth of her parentage, including her status as the child of a Fate. You can find more information about Scarlett and Fate lore at this post.

Jacob was settled on a park bench, leaned back with hat and coat folded up beside him. He hardly seemed to care that he was soaking through under the steady rainfall, though the sudden patch of dryness opened Jacob’s eyes to see Scarlett hovering over him.

“Nothing wrong with a little natural wash-up,” Jacob teased with a broad grin before straightening up and smoothing his hands through his hair to squeeze out most of the water. “You look like you’re in need of it as well; been trying to catch up to me at the fight club, then?”

Ohhhh!  I know! “you make no sense to me.” “welcome to my life.”

James stared at the screen.  The video one of the Q-Branch minions had set up to loop on an unoccupied screen.  He looked back at the smug form of Alec, visibly but not verbally bragging to Scarlett how he wasn’t being scolded for flirting with fucking cannibals.  Eddie was over by a different minion trying to persuade her to erase all evidence of his inability to juggle.

James looked back at the video of Alec crackling as he rode a llama, leading a… pack? herd? a number of llama from a burning farm, into a fleeing gun dealer, lassoing said gun dealer and dragging the man off.

He looked at the rest of the double-ohs.

“All of you,” he murmured, “make no sense to me.”

Q, walking by, the remnants of James’s own equipment in his arms, snorted.

“Welcome to my life.”

James eyed the Quartermaster.  Poor man had to deal with thirteen double-ohs (and yes, James knew he caused quite the headache for him), plus a number of regular field agents, the minions, the other MI6 Departments, Eve, Tanner, and M on a regular basis.  How had he not had a nervous breakdown yet????

“Dearest Q, light of my life, gorgeous genius,” he called, trailing after the man.

Q looked over his shoulder and quirked an eyebrow.

“Let me cook for you tonight?  Pamper you a bit?” he grinned a Q.

Q set the equipment down, and turned to face James, leaning back on the table with his elbows.

“And why would you want to do that?”

James moved forward, hands cupping Q’s hips.

“Well, an old dog likes a bit of a cuddle doesn’t he?”

“But does a young man with spots?”

“I’ve read spots can be caused by stress.  Maybe they’ll disappear if I get you to relax?  I promise I can do a relaxing massage.”

Q grinned at him, “with a happy ending?”

James winked.

OC Day: Scarlett Papava, 004

The figure came into sharp focus as 004. He’d never been so happy to see Scarlett Papava, with her vintage red lipstick and silver screen siren aesthetic. With her favorite little black funeral dress, she looked like a predatory black widow in a Carrie Underwood song. –excerpted from “Liars and Killers,” by SvengoolieCat

This post is an ode to my favorite recurring OC, my own version of 004! I’m very excited to chat about her because she’s fun as hell to write.

Fic Rec List:

Of Cats and Mortgages,  • She’s introduced towards the end of the fic as a classy 00 with a vintage, 1940s film star aesthetic who makes boffins nervous and plays with Q-Branch’s cats.

Pray You Now,  • 004 is Q’s field-companion in this Spectre fix-it. Also features the first fic to feature the tag: “004 is the homicidal sibling Q never wanted but got anyway” and this basically sums up their entire relationship throughout all my fics.

Liars and Killers,  • 004 is once again Q’s partner in crime, mainly because Bond is too busy being a sad sack who’s wanted for murder. And by now, she’s kind of evolved into a snarky female version of Moriarty, which is fun.

Bonus cameo appearance: Reversal of Fortunes,  • Role Reversal AU, in which Q is a Lettered Agent, and 007 is part of the quartermaster program. 004 wanders by briefly as another 00-boffin.

Headcanons

1. 004 and Q are good friends outside of MI6. They’re of a similar age and they just really get on well. They even do things together, when they have the time. They both love to dance and are pretty good about attending ballroom and Latin dance classes at a local studio. Sometimes on Saturdays they go looking for farmers’ markets, because both share a pretentious love of farm fresh eggs and veggies and raw honey.

2. 004 is literally the biggest 00Q shipper. She never passes up the opportunity to prod at them both to get their shit together, and although she claims that it’s because she has money on them, she’s actually a romantic at heart and has designs on someday being Q’s best lady of honor. That said, she’s cornered Bond and told him outright that if he hurts Q, she’ll castrate him and then make him dig his own grave out in the woods somewhere. He believes her and has a healthy amount of respect/fear as well.

3. 004 came to MI6 via the RAF. She maintains her pilot’s license, even though she worked mostly in logistics. She served 6 years all over the world, including a tour in Afghanistan. When she retired, MI6 recruited her based on her exemplary military record (including a commendation for bravery), and her conversational skills in French, Italian, Farsi, and Mandarin. Q keeps telling her that anytime she wants out of the field, he’ll make a place for her in Q-Branch.

4. She created her vintage look after she retired from the military. After serving so many years in uniform, it felt a little weird and liberating to suddenly have complete control of her wardrobe and hair again. She decided to create A Look based off her favorite Hollywood film stars of the 30s, 40s, and 50s. It’s her trademark; part uniform, part persona, and she likes they way it makes people underestimate her—they usually only do it once because they’re dead before they have a second chance.

5. Her first two sanctioned kills to earn her 00-designation were of a human trafficker in Los Angeles and a drug cartel leader in the Cayman Islands. She didn’t lose sleep over either one. The trafficker she gutted and left to die slowly, in full view of the women and children he’d kidnapped, abused, and sold. Grisly, but it provided closure to everyone involved. The cartel leader (and a few of his lieutenants for good measure) she poisoned. It seemed fitting that they should be done in with their own product.

6. 004 is a stickler for good manners. Rudeness, incivility, and discourtesy make her bloody furious. Considering her line of work, she often deals with people who embody all three. It makes it easier for her to kill them, because she feels she’s doing society an added favor. Q sometimes jokes that she’s a female Hannibal Lector. She reckons she more of a female Moriarty, but she sees his point.

7. She has a twin sister who lives in Cornwall with her wife and three kids. She tries to visit every other month when she has some extra time and feels like getting out of London. Her sister is still mildly irritated with her for teaching the kids how to fight dirty if picked on. Scarlett giggled like a loon when her sister called her to yell about how all three ended up suspended for ganging up on the school bully (the bully ended up with a broken nose and several livid bite-marks). After her ears quit ringing, she texted her nieces and nephew “good work” and a thumbs-up emoji.

The world kept turning. 

MI6 mourned for approximately one day before it went back to business as usual. Standard protocol, of course. Dying was in the job description for double-oh's. Bond was no different (he wasn’t special). M toyed with the idea of retiring the call number but ultimately decided against it. There's no room for sentiment in their line of work.

The double-oh's all mourned in their own ways. Most of them were out on missions. Q broke the news to 004 while she was waiting for intel at a high society bar in Singapore. Scarlett didn’t say a word about Bond, but Q listened to her order the same martini over and over throughout the night until even she couldn’t shoot straight. 003 was in Peru going after an arms dealer. Jack swore at the news, and he beat the next adversary he came across to a bloody pulp.

Trevelyan was in deep cover somewhere west of Siberia when 007 died. Q wasn't there for his debrief when he returned to England, but, according to Moneypenny, M dropped the news and not an hour later 006 had completely disappeared. M was worried about what he might do; Q already knew. Bond was Trevelyan’s best friend. He crawled into some dank hole to mourn and rage in peace. Q tried not to feel envious.

Nomi took to stopping by Q’s flat between her missions. Usually without notice, though she did occasionally text to get his takeout order. The first time she came by, Q was halfway through a bottle of whisky and onto the second Matrix movie. It was a week after 007, his 007, died and the night after his funeral. She didn’t say a word about the state Q was in. All she did was make grabby hands at the bottle and plop down next to him. 

The visits became a frequent venture. Nomi would break in with take out, give his cats the love they deserve, and crash onto his sofa for a film. Q didn’t have the heart to tell her she’d adopted Bond’s old habit—mostly because he was worried she’d stop.

A month passed. Nomi dropped in with chicken curry and a bottle of Tempranillo. They were halfway through The Big Sick when Q finally scrounged up the courage to ask. “Why do you keep coming by?”

She stabbed her chicken. “Would you like me to be honest?”

“Preferably, yes.” Q rolled his eyes. Damned double-ohs. He watched her chew on her answer for a moment. 

“I work with you every day, Q. I see how you care for your agents.” Q fought the blush that threatened to rise. As much as they drove him mad, Q had a…healthy respect for those who went in the field. If he paid them extra care, no one could blame him. It’s his job to keep them safe (as much as they can be) and well-equipped.

Nomi looked at him. “It was different with Bond. With James.”

Q’s whole body tensed. He nearly dropped the wine glass in his hands. “I’m not sure what you mean.”

“You loved him.” 

Nomi was not the first person to accuse him of loving James Bond. Tanner pulled Q aside after Skyfall and issued a rather mortifying warning about falling for double-oh’s. Moneypenny caught him right before Nine Eyes, making cooing noises and talking about potential wedding dates like the prick she is. Even Madeleine Swann gave him knowing looks as Q and Nomi helped her settle Bond’s affairs.

Q went to deny it like he always did. But he’d spent the last month working 16-hour shifts and coming home to his cats. A month of going through his day as though nothing had changed. As though they weren’t living in a world where James Bond was dead. He was so tired.

His silence spoke for him. He caught Nomi’s eye and sighed.

She didn’t give him a pitying smile or try to extend comfort. Instead, she reached for the bottle of wine and topped off his glass. “I keep coming by because the least I can do for the man who saved the world is care for the people he loved.”

A scratchy feeling crawled up his throat. Q’s vision grew blurry with unshed tears. Bond loved Q, not in the way Q loved Bond, but he did. It didn’t feel like enough, but it was all Q had.

Nomi held her glass out to him. “To James.”

Q tapped his own against the side. “To James.”

“Scarlett Papava, 004, is a five-foot-three red-headed firecracker from Surrey, of all places, who prefers throwing knives to guns. She’s also bloody hilarious, making up for her stubbornness on ops by cracking jokes and innuendos that make R snort loudly in the middle of Q Branch.

008, Priya Atwal, in contrast, is a quiet desi woman, no less beautiful or deadly, but more severe, more focused. She is perhaps kinder and more patient than Papava, but her dry, witty observations in the field as well as her near encyclopedic knowledge when it comes to all things bomb-related has made her an easy favorite for Q.

Which isn’t to say that he doesn’t like the other agents: 001, a newbie, just like Q, who’s still eager and excited for every mission, with his long curly hair, bright blue eyes, and his odd love of horticulture; 002, a blonde amazon of a woman, dedicated to her demands for more deadly makeup items, please, the paralyzing lipstick was so fun; and 005, who….

Well, Q doesn’t like 005 at all. Fucking St. Clair.

009, Payne, is perhaps the double-oh Q knows best. He’s certainly spent the most time with him: Payne sometimes will join him and Tanner when they go out for lunch, or if they grab a pint after work. Of the people Payne trusted, it had been between Tanner, Boothroyd, and Q who were available, and Q too would have picked staying with the quiet ‘kid’ with the cat over screaming children or talkative old loons. It had been oddly domestic, and after the agent had moved back into his own flat Q almost missed the man. He’d made a mean omelette, he’d let Q ride into to work with him in his Porsche, and he was even tall enough to change the dead lightbulb in Q’s bathroom. Q had also greatly appreciated the way Payne had pointedly ignored the few framed pictures of him and Vesper displayed around the flat.”

Marvel Cinematic Universe

MARVEL MANIA

Superhero movies were not my thing. The only superhero movie I have watched as a kid was Spiderman. I am not into sci-fi or superhero movies albeit being a huge fan of cinema. But during this quarantine, I decided to experiment with my taste and try to indulge in a new set of genre – the Marvel Cinematic Universe. These movies were a far cry from films that are to my liking, such as “Brooklyn” and “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape”. I used to find superhero movies corny or cheesy, because they were not based on real people and I fancy movies that tackle the inner spectrum of humanity. Additionally, I used to think that actors who choose to be in these movies are not “real actors” because portraying a superhero does not really seem to me as a role where you have to internalize the character. I was probably the only person in my class who did not cry when someone said “I love you, 3000” after the Endgame came out, and the only one who did not get the “Wakanda forever” reference. That changed because yester night, I finally finished the entire MCU. I came in with a viewing guide from my friends and I came out feeling like I just had a whole cultural experience.

THE AVENGERS

I like all of them. Except maybe the Captains. I don’t like Captain America. I understand that he’s supposed to be the poster boy of “superheroes” where he’s all righteous, courageous, virtuous and kind to everyone – but that does not seem realistic at all. His character just seemed predictable and bland for me. Maybe that’s why I prefer Tony Stark, he is more dimensional. He is someone who is unapologetic, makes mistakes, smart, arrogant; but his heart will always come from a good place. During battles, it’s always Tony Stark who is thinking of ways to end them (like how to diffuse Ultron at Sokovia) so I feel as if it’s him that should be leading them. Captain America only lead them because he was born in 1918 (just kidding, don’t eat me Steve Rogers stans).  He also looks way too good. It’s unreal. What a knucklehead (Loki will agree with me on this). Jk. Anyways, he earned plus points from me when he returned the infinity stones successfully. As for Captain Marvel, I don’t think I need to explain why I find her insufferable. 

A little piece about Spiderman. I like this reboot of Spiderman, and Tom Holland deserves all the hype he got because he worked so hard for his movies. No one can beat Tobey Maguire of course, but we are all just glad that Tom did not ruin Spiderman for us. The only thing I did not like about his reboot was that he relied too much on Mr. Stark. Tobey’s Spiderman never relied on anyone, he was just his own superhero. But for the sake of integrating him into the MCU, I guess that they have make this fun and fresh Peter Parker juvenile in order to be able to develop his character more. So I think I’ll give it a pass.

I personally like the Thor films the best. Because it was based on Norse mythology. Because of Loki. Because Anthony Hopkins is in it. I dislike the Captain Marvel movie the most.

ENDGAME THOUGHTS. We did not need Captain Marvel. Thor did not deserve to become a drunkard and a greasehead – he’s a freaking Norse God! Why was Pepper Potts at the final battle against Thanos? Thank you, Doctor Strange. Tony was genuinely and undeniably- the heart of the Avengers.

SCORSESE, COPPOLA & PEWDIEPIE

Along with its colossal popularity, the MCU movies have also acquired prominent detractors. Prior to watching the entire MCU, I would have probably agreed with Scorsese, Coppola and Felix (here is his “controversial” video on “I don’t like Marvel movies”).

“Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks. It isn’t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being.” – Martin Scorsese

Parts of it are true, on the basis where the entire plot lines are predictable and it’s not the kind of cinema I learned to love as well. Marvel movies usually follow the same backbone. This is a huge reason why some cinephiles don’t like them, because the mystery is gone and it’s all obvious. After watching all of them in a 3-week streak, I could pretty much sum up the Marvel movie plot line into this:

The protagonist is in a helpless or vulnerable position.

The protagonist meets someone who can help them.

The protagonist works hard to get to his pre-final form and along with it, learns to fight in the name of eradicating the bad guys. 

The protagonist finds out that her/his master is not all-good.

Chaos but then they forgive and understand the master.

2-3 battle fights, the last one is usually the peak battle where we see the protagonist in final form.

I like movies that tackle more about realism. I like seeing actors play roles that depict humanity as humans. I’m not a huge fan of special effects or super powers either. When Scorsese said that they are “not cinema”,  I understood it because there are no intricacies or space for a different form of expression when you’re doing mega franchise films that are meant to sell to the general public. Which brings me to another point, that MCU is largely a business profit. These movies are made by mega corporations in the film industry, and it might also hinder other smaller filmmakers from showing their films if a titanic franchise is showing on the same week as theirs. Comic book fans are enormous in numbers which is why there is such a huge following for these movies even if they use the same plot lines all throughout. Humans are slaves for nostalgia, and people like to see the characters they have read and admired during their childhood come to life. Because of that, these corporations will try to capitalize on that and make more movies for as long as they can, and in a sense, you can see that they might be doing it only for the sake of money and not of art any longer. This is what the disparagers would say; that there is very little artistic values to these films because they are made to be sold, not appreciated for its artistry.

Some of our great grandfathers thought the same of westerns, and believed the films of John Ford, Sam Peckinpah, and Sergio Leone were all exactly the same. I remember a great uncle to whom I was raving about Star Wars. He responded by saying, “I saw that when it was called 2001, and, boy, was it boring!” Superheroes are simply today’s gangsters/cowboys/outer space adventurers. Some superhero films are awful, some are beautiful. Like westerns and gangster movies (and before that, just MOVIES), not everyone will be able to appreciate them, even some geniuses. And that’s okay.” – James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Director

Here’s my two cents on this whole hullabaloo. Art is expressed in different ways. Just because something is popular does not mean that you should hate it or feel as if it lacks creative value. For one, I think that if the Norsemen would see the Thor films, their jaws would drop. Art in these movies is seen through the elaborate special effects and costumes. A lot of people work behind the scenes to make this kind of art form. They are not any less of an artist. The effects are wonderful, amazing and beautiful. Sure, they don’t have meandering plot lines or mysteries that are meant to make you think. But they are able to show art in a way that is along with the times, showing the capabilities of what computer generated imagery could be. It gives us the fantasy that otherwise would not be achievable in real life (for all I care, my favorite scenes are seeing Spiderman glide across the buildings of New York).

These movies are intended for children and teenagers (adults are there for the sake of nostalgia or lighthearted entertainment, I guess?). For kids, it inspires them that they can be anything they want to be. For teenagers, it might be a good footing for their moral compasses. For me, it just inspired me to get fit (hehe). My point is, these movies are made to cater to a particular type of audience, and the others are there just for the spectacle. If all the movies were Scorsese or Coppola, what would the kids watch in the theaters? Kids would not understand “Taxi Driver” nor would be a good foundation for their morals. It was a classic and it deserves the reputation it has, but after only a certain age will you be able to appreciate it, and only if you had a particular knack for appreciating films. MCU movies are made for people who just want to have a good time; you don’t have to like high-brow or art-house movies to understand it, and that’s all there is to it. It’s made for entertainment, what’s so wrong with that?

And the actors – a lot of them played the characters so well which made me realize that taking on a superhero role does not lessen your credibility as an actor. My particular favorites are Tom Hiddleston, Benedict Cumberbatch, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland, Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr. (bonus points for Anthony Hopkins, his range, man, his range). They were able to bring their roles to life in such a distinct way that it would be hard to never associate them as superheroes, which of course, is a double-edged sword. As a starting actor, that could be a bubble that is hard to get out of. For example, Tom Holland as Spiderman; people will always associate him as that, and how many of you has actually seen the movies he has done aside from MCU? It might be hard for him to bridge his career from being a huge franchise film protagonist into doing films to his own preference. MCU movies make the popularity and the money; indie films – not as much. 

I don’t think that the existence of MCU is throwing away the spotlight from smaller filmmakers. Because back then, I simply chose not to see MCU movies because I was not interested. People will find ways to support art that they like, and just because MCU existed, it did not hinder me from looking for movies that I like. The cinema is made by individuals who like to create movies. There are different ways to express them. There are different subscribers to different genres. To each their own. But then again, I am not working in the film industry, so I can’t speak for them, I can only say what it’s like for a movie buff like me.

These are the movies that make up people’s childhood. These are characters that gives reason for people to bond together. When Tony died, the entire world felt like they lost a father. If it’s able to touch lives as much as any other film, why should we discriminate against it? Love is love, after all.

Essa foto ficou meio esquisita porque a Scar não é tão baixa assim, mas eu não lembro exatamente o que aconteceu para sair dessa maneira. Foco no sorriso da ruiva sempre que tá com o babacão do Connor.

Foto 005: Thomas Rogers ( @heroesathxart ) tem o maior número de aparições no meu instagram e eu duvido que isso vá mudar. Ele estava um pouco irritado comigo no dia, então ele e meu cachorro me ignoraram quase que a tarde inteira, mas eu consegui registrar esse momento maravilhoso.
