what i find so interesting about scandal is that it canonically takes place in a world where barack obama doesn't exist, yet the show itself is such a product of obama-era neoliberal politics
Doing a Scandal deep dive and the cast is actually so precious! Like I was watching an interview with Scott during the final season where they talk about staying friends after wrapping and he's kinda jaded and basically saying stuff like "I've been on a lot of shows that've ended, everyone always says we'll keep in touch, but that never happens" then flash forward to him being on the podcast in 2023 and saying "I keep in constant contact with the Scandal cast". Like that's so wholesome and I love casts like that so much!!!
I'm re-watching Scandal again for a second time and I'm realizing that Olivia Pope was perhaps one of the first women to introduce us to ✨girl dinner✨.
if i was making scandal s4 i'd have a psychological horror cyrus subplot where he's periodically haunted by a rotting, zombie-fied ghost version of james every time he continues to support the administration in his usual immoral ways, both serving as a representation of his guilt over his loss, and the constant reinforcing of his sunk-cost fallacy way of coping. but because this wasn't relevant to olivia's journey they didn't include it.
