You know how the Earpers were annoyed that they wouldn’t let Wynonna f-bomb on the show but she and eventually everyone else did in Season 4 when they changed the age rating but Waverly wouldn’t?

Waverly was the last character to f-bomb in the show because she saved all her f-bombs until the very end which was hilarious and one of the highlights of it.

Well, it turns out Waverly actually had the first f-bomb in the show before even Wynonna in Season 2’s finale.

Additional Wynonna Earp Vengeance thoughts

This is going to be all the spoilers. You have been warned.

First of all, things that brought me a lot of joy:

The first scene up until things went bad. Nedley. Mercedes. Being buddies. Everything Mercedes was wearing including her monogrammed fanny pack of fishing lures.

Mercedes being like “the face. Kill me if you must but do not harm the face.” And hey, props to Mina for listening?

Bunny Loblaw cameo. The woman just gets better every time.

Any and all Wayhaught physical activity.

The entire Wynonna and Doc intro in Tombstone. That was just pure 100% Wynonna perfection.

Every comment from Wynonna about how drunken brawling is actually precisely what Mercedes would have wanted at her wake (although I think Mercedes would have wanted more male strippers tbh).

I am typing this as I walk my dogs and we just passed a gold penis-shaped piece of confetti on the sidewalk outside a bar. Mercedes Gardner: never truly gone.

There was some quality Earp sister time that I did enjoy although it was slightly off (see Waverly discussion).

I am very much not up on current music so I didn’t get 100% of the references but Doc talking to Waverly about Megan Thee Stallion is what I came for.

Wistful comment about friend from Arizona. Thank you, Doc. Sorry your new bf was a tool.

The conversation between Wynonna and Nedley at the cemetery was perfect and should have happened years ago.

The fact that no one for a moment doubted that the three people Wynonna loves most are Waverly, Alice… and Nicole. I will be a Wynnaught shipper till the day I die.

Now for the complaints.

At no point did they convince me that Mina was actually worse than all the demons they’ve faced before. Really? Sure, she doesn’t follow Revenant rules, but they’ve dealt with Bulshar. She does not remotely compare.

I also didn’t really buy the backstory stuff: Wynonna trying to impress a bunch of mean girls by summoning a demon for them? Taking them to the homestead at all? None of that felt true to her. I also don’t know why the group home girls were just suddenly back in Purgatory. (Also Dawson’s Freaks is the STUPIDEST.)

I think maybe Mina would have worked with a full season of build-up, but this was just not enough time.

I’m really pissed off about Mercedes surviving everything just to be murdered as a plot device. I love her, ok? She deserves better.

I am less pissed about Doc because I think they handled it decently - one last epic shootout, burying him in the spot where he wanted to raise Alice, the symmetry with burying Dolls (on the same hill, I think?), letting him come to terms with aging and dying. But it was so unnecessary. And so rushed: we never got to see anyone’s reaction but Wynonna’s (and Jeremy’s wildly out of character non-reaction). He was such an important character and we never got to say goodbye properly.

Not enough Jeremy.

Nicole’s attitude towards Wynonna up until that big don’t tell Waverly moment just made me so sad. I love their dynamic. I don’t know what happened.

In general, it felt like Nicole majorly backslid.

Biggest problem, though: Waverly. And I’m going to be upfront here and say that I was never as enamored with Waverly as a lot of people are. But I did like her and this didn’t feel like Waverly.

I think it’s fantastic that Dom has come out and become more comfortable in their skin and that they didn’t force them back in the girly Waverly box for this.

But I think they changed too much. Physically, the hair, the nose ring, the tattoos, the wardrobe choices (the wifebeater? The bolo tie?). But there was also her behavior. Jumping into a bar fight aggressively after relatively minor provocation was a lot. There was nothing of the light, bubbly Waverly left aside from a craft room. It just felt like part of her died. Like something happened over those 5 years that traumatized her worse than the stuff we actually witnessed. And Nicole being so unconcerned about it.

Just like a small question based on that one ask, but... might the lack of brown/black men in popular M/M ships have to do with people trying really hard not to be racist so they just... never feature black/brown men? Because I know several F/F ships with brown/black women, but I can't remember a single M/M or even M/F with a black/brown male love interest... well, maybe Link/Gan or Zelda/Gan? But besides that one... nothing rings a notable bell.

Part of it is "I don't know. I just don't find them hot for some reason..."-style racism. That can shift with time and exposure but there's no instant fix even if someone is interested in changing their own tastes.

Part of it is being instantly screamed at and held to higher standards. (And yes, no matter how much people want to whine and say this isn't true, it is true, and anyone who goes ahead and writes despite the haters will tell you so.)

Part of it is fear of messing up above and beyond fear of reactions. Personally, I think this is toxic white guilt-flavor time-wasting and it's better to try and fail than not try, but it's a massive factor in what some people choose to write.

A lot of it is simply the composition of the mega-franchises that tend to generate the ships with bajillions of works. If we're looking at AO3 circles, the biggest f/f ships are not that big. If you look at m/m ships of the same size, there are some with some guy who is not white and not a pale-skinned Asian.

I don't see anything particularly significant until we get further down the listings, but there are definitely smaller fandoms like Leverage where everybody loves and ships the black guy.

I mean, yes, clearly, media does have a bias against darker skin, and the darker the skin, the bigger the bias. This bias may be exacerbated by fandom, but in a lot of cases, it just seems to be replicated at about the same level.

That pattern notwithstanding, it seems like you just haven't heard of a lot of ships.

God that’s a genius line. Seems cringey at first - which Waverly does acknowledge immediately after, being the adorable self-conscious creature that she is - but when you think about it a bit deeper… it’s profound because her aunt Gus tells her earlier in the episode that “you’ve been doing what others want you to do for so long. Now you can do whatever it is you want.”

And it’s absolutely true that what Waverly wanted to do for herself - for the first time - is Nicole Haught.

It is romantic and it is beautiful despite the cringe of the line because it comes from feelings of having a deeper connection than just wanting to hook up with a girl she thinks is hot. It comes from a place in her heart of wanting to explore her sexuality in an area she hasn’t yet, but wants to with someone that she knows is worthy of her heart. Of going on this incredibly personal and intimate journey in her sexuality with. She’s not using Nicole. She’s inviting her to be apart of something that is completely new and exciting for her.

So Nicole smiles because not only has she wanted this desperately herself and was just waiting for Waverly to make the move she felt she couldn’t do, but also because she completely gets what Waverly is saying to her. She understands that she’s asking her to come on a journey with her that she feels no one else can. And so their hook up here is not just simply one of “I am attracted to you, you’re attracted to me - let’s get together”. It’s “I like you, you like me - explore this journey that I’ve never been on ever before with me.”

So yeah - what she says is profound even if cringey. But it’s also so Waverly so it had to be a little of both - including the little anxious freak out moment of “God that didn’t come out right” and *gay panick - help*.

She said everything right even if she didn’t think so at the time because Waverly knows what she means by what she said. And so does Nicole. So fuck it. Cringey it is and shall be while being so. much. more than that.

Hi, I headcanon Kate as a butch lesbian. I recently watched Hawkeye with a friend. I felt really weird about it, and I just wanted to express why I have this headcanon. It is self-indulgent, but hopefully, after reading this, it makes a little sense why I would interpret her this way. As someone who has seen Hawkeye way too many times. So here is a long-winded explanation. Sorry if it's a bit rambly.

Okay, so why don't I start off with the surface. Kate's costuming. Through the entire show she is seen with multiple Lesbian staples, she is wearing actual Doc Martin's throughout the entire show.

Even in her super suit, in her fancier outfits, the entire time. Do I even need to mention the suits? Throughout the show, and in a deleted scene, she wears approximately three suits. Ranging from casual to formal. When she's not wearing ripped jeans (cuffed) over boots, which are all lesbian staples, (she's even wearing flannel in the last scene) she is in lounge wear. There are three distinct moments of traditionally feminine clothes, but I don't think they disprove my point. Considering the first instance, in the prologue when Kate is ten years old. I don't think most people have a personal style at ten years old, and are still wearing the clothes their parents picked out for them. I beleive, in the context of her and her mothers relationship, Kate was strictly given clothes that her mother chose. Her room seems to lack any of the personality we come to know. The distinct lack of purple, the very stiff clean, aesthetic of it. When we see her apartment, later on, it is decorated well. It's got a much more similar color scheme, it's a bit messy, crowded, it looks like Kate Bishop lives in it. The room she grew up in? Bright whites and pale greens, it doesn't match. It looks more like a room a rich mother would hire an interior decorator to make. The second instance of traditional feminity is in episode two when she is wearing a pair of her aunts pajamas. One thing I like to remember is that Kate is a comedic relief character. She's fully fleshed out, but think about the multiple times Kate's used for comedy. The "Good thing they call you hawkEYE and not hawkEAR," her crashing through the ceiling to save Clint. She, by my reading does things because it's the funny option. Not to mention the line where Clint points this out, he says she looks silly. I think she saw the dumbest pair of pajamas she could choose and put them on. It fits her character, it fits the next outfit she wears as well (the rose suit). I think she did it for the bit. Both outfits. The third and final instance is in the last episode at the party. Kate wears a dress, but I think it's important to remember why she wears this dress. Kate wears this dress because it fits over her new superhero costume, and she can tear it off in an instant for a cool reveal. You can't wear a suit over your super suit, it would be difficult to get off. Now, I would also like to point out that being butch doesn't mean you have a complete lack of femininity. Butches can be feminine, and I don't want this to be taken as me arguing she is the most masculine, butch woman ever. I would compare her to Nicole Haught from Wynnona Earp, who is a canon lesbian. Nicole spends a good amount of the show dressed more masc, but there are instances where she wears dresses, tank tops more traditionally feminine clothes. I could argue Kate is a little more masc than Nicole, because of all the reasons I've explained. Kate wears suits to fancy events.

Now I want to talk about episode one, the iconic black suit, and her relationship with her mother that cemented this in my mind. Kate and Eleanore don't see eye to eye. It's very obvious from their first conversation, and the grungy outfit she is wearing juxtaposition to Eleanore's very traditionally feminine, old money looking dress and styling. Eleanore tells Kate to go put on a red dress, to which Kate immediately dissobays, both expressing their relationship and expectations. In a later episode Elanores says "we know what happens next. You'll graduate and in the fall you'll come work at Bishop Security like we've always planned" to which Kate responds "like YOU'VE always planned." I believe this is my smoking gun. Eleanore has always expected Kate to be a certain way, she's expected her to continue the family business, even though Kate has expressed since she was a child that she wants a completely different path. Not to mention that Kate is going to college to study to work at Bishop security. To me she probably only tolerates it because she's on the archery team. It is a classic case of doing just enough to do the sport because that's what's important to her. I think showing Kate as having a different gender expression than the one her mother expected, and continues to push for would further excentuate this point. The way these two are opposites, the expectations in place, the honestly, bad mothering Eleanore has performed. Not to mention the lines in their final interaction, "I know you and I know what you're capable of" Eleanore says. She has one idea of how her daughter is supposed to be, down to the clothes she wears, the room she lives in. She's got her rigid idea of who Kate is and Kate spends the entire show showing that she is not that person. She has her own goals different than what her mother wanted, and I beleive making Kate being butch, soft Butch at that, just plays so well into this relationship and integral storyline.
