Tundra talks (be afraid):
Did you know that the “Super Mario Bros Super Show” was not Mario’s first tv debut
It’s actually the tv adaption of Donkey Kong, released in 1983, The show stared Mario,Pauline, and Donkey Kong .

I personally really like this design for Mario . I’m not the biggest fan of Mario’s design in Donkey Kong games however this is an exception.
The boy even has his modern color palette; I don’t hate the voice for Mario either; He sounds very young.
(If I got any fact wrong then please let me know).

I tried to draw the fellow using reference images
I got him right on my first try and failed on my second =\

You know I think making that YTP of Kangaroo was a mistake, because now every time I watch a cartoon from that time period I go mad because at some point the same wheel SFX plays

If I could time-travel I would tape every episode of the partially-lost videogame-themed cartoon anthology series Saturday Supercade so I can then go back to the present and post it online.

Original storyboard from a Donkey Kong segment of the 1983 Saturday Supercade cartoon, featuring Mario slipping on a banana peel and Pauline acting as a princess (interestingly, at that point, Mario had not yet rescued any princesses in any of his game appearances).

Note
fun fact!
the girl in donkey kong ISNT pauline!
it's lady!
pauline was a mis translation
what do you mean mistranslation? she didn't have a name when Donkey Kong was released, then she was given a name later (ポリーン, which is indeed accurately translated as "Pauline"). this was first Officially used in Donkey Kong (1994), but the name Pauline was used previously in some non-game material, notably the Saturday Supercade cartoon. that wasn't a "mistranslation" either, they just wanted to refer to an unnamed character with an actual name and picked Pauline for her and it ended up turning into her canon name later.
regardless, you could Kinda make the argument that "Lady" and Pauline are presented as separate characters, but this is really hard to justify, mostly because of Super Mario Odyssey. slightly more defensible stance than saying Mario isn't Jumpman, I'll give it that

I don't know what part of this image amuses me more: Mario in the dress and bonnet or Pauline packing heat.

In the mid-1980s, animated adaptations of arcade games were commonplace— for example, Hanna Barbera's Pac-Man or Saturday Supercade's Q*Bert. Both of these shows, for lack of a better term, 'Americanize' the designs of the titular characters, so I got to thinking...
"What would a mid-1980s cartoon based off Rascal look like?"
Seeing as I've had prior experience in drawing faux animation cels, I decided to put that talent to the test and whip up not only a cel drawing but also a painted background for a scene for a hypothetical 1985 Rascal cartoon! 🍬🧡💙🧡🍬
(You can get a print of both the standalone cel as well as the cel overlaid on top of the painted background over on my RedBubble store!)
