SEPFEMBER 2024 PROMPTS LIST

HERE WE ARE! AT LONG LAST! THE MOMENT YOU'VE ALL BEEN (HOPEFULLY) WAITING FOR! GIRL MONTH!

I honestly can't believe this is actually happening. This event was a shower thought a few months ago.

Here's a recap of the event: to participate, make at least one fanwork of any variety during September that features a woman or women from the Zelda franchise as the main character/s. All Linksmeets are welcome in this challenge, as well as general LoZ fans!

Before I drop the prompts list for those who are looking for a little direction, I'd like to mention that I have made an AO3 COLLECTION FOR THIS EVENT. It's open and unmoderated so you can add your works to it freely. And if you post on tumblr, please tag #sepfember !! I'll be scrolling through the tag every day looking for things to reblog and gush about 👀

If you have any questions at all about this event, or you want to chat about it, my askbox is open! I will also respond to comments and reblogs of this post.

Now, onto the prompts. Disclaimer: you DON'T have to use all/any of these prompts, or only create things for certain characters on their featured day. This list is just a GUIDE for those who want it. If you have other plans, go with your heart!

At the end of the day, this is a celebration, and all that matters is that you have fun. I hope some of you will join me next month in giving our girls some time in the spotlight, but if you can't, that's okay! There's no pressure! Think about how Saria spent years in betrayal and anger, driven for justice, searching out all of Rhine Lab’s wrongdoings, developing her philosophy on what science is for, all to right the course of the thing she build together with Kristen, who she dedicated her life to.

Kristen, the child of her idols. Kristen, her first love. Kristen, who she promised to protect.

Kristen, who betrayed her.

Kristen, who took advantage of her devotion.

Kristen, who designed a weapon against her, against the formula they came up with together.

Kristen, who is harming the very people they set out together to serve.

Kristen, who she’ll judge and bring back to the right path.

Kristen, who she never fully understood.

Kristen, whose plans she needs to stop. Kristen, who might bring the whole world tumbling down as she achieves her dream.

Kristen, who she slowly realizes is going to die in pursuit of her dream, just like her parents.

She tanks an anti-tank weapon to the head. She fights against an ancient caster and warrior. She fights the very people she trained, the knights that protect and serve Kristen. She saves her kid, finally. She learns to rely on others, to communicate. She reconciles with her partner. She flies a plane up, up into the upper atmosphere (just like the Wrights), through a combat zone, and docks it on a moving station. She learns to let go of her careful control of her every move, to act spontaneously, decisively.

All this to reach Kristen. To stop her.

But when she finally meets her… That’s her childhood friend. Her first love.

She fights her, endures her power, one last time, taking step by painful step toward her. She tells her she’s wrong about science, shares the philosophy and perspective she’s built over the years to stop her from harming people, to fight the culture that birthed them.

But really, she’s trying to talk Kristen down. You were wrong to do this. Give it up. Your dream is beautiful. Come with me. You finally achieved your parents’ dream. We can still survive this. I don’t doubt that this will affect the entire world. Watch it with me. I can still save you. The escape pods are gone? I’ll calcify us together—use the arts we developed together—and we’ll fall together; maybe we’ll survive, maybe we won’t. I’ll do everything I can, even if it’s doomed. Let me save you. Please. Please let me protect you.

And Kristen, who never lost faith in her, who knew Saria would reach her, who always wanted to share the truth, her moment of triumph, the fate she had chosen for herself with the woman she loves, who knew Saria would never leave her by choice and installed a trapdoor in her dreamer’s space pod so that she could live on… presses the button.

And Saria, after her long, long climb, falls. The final stage of the rocket to Kristen’s dream, falling away.

What must it be like, as she fell, to realize she spent her whole life helping Kristen assemble her space program? That when Kristen used to look up at the stars, she was not just seeing the past, her parents’ deaths, the legacy she has to uphold; she was seeing this future she had always planned for herself. That this was always the wish that Saria devoted herself to protecting.

And she kept her promise.

Saria and Kristen when they were younger they were a healthy couple but sometime after Rhine Lab was established and built their relationship started to show cracks. Before all that I like to believe that Kristen wagged her tail behind close doors when Saria was around, just a slow wag. What do you think of Saria and Kristen?

oh boy, Saria and Kristen huh. rubs hands with malicious intents. I have, some THOUGHTS about them, i want to study their relationship under a microscope alright

to start with "they were a healthy couple", it's something that i can question. i mostly think about how Kristen lost her parents at the age of 10, and of her conversation with Saria about the subject in the manhwa:

Saria "always protected Kristen", and she said that since she lost her parents, "not many have been willing to defend her family's reputation". which means, Saria was pretty much the only person Kristen could rely on, and if she was able to continue and go on, it was thanks to Saria. once again, she lost her parents early, she was very likely alone all this time, and for a child, it can create a huge hole in their heart, one that Kristen probably and definitively tried to fill with Saria. she followed her, Saria was like a lighthouse for Kristen; and that's why it couldn't be healthy.

because of Saria's views, her beliefs on how emotions are a bias to scientific avancement, Kristen very likely followed these, but to an extreme. to the point of going against ethics to fullfill her ambition and continue her parent's legacy.

this is not to say Saria ever agreed with this, maybe even before Ifrit, if she knew about it, she would have stopped it. but it's to say that Kristen used this belief to feed her ambition, to see it as an open door to push the limits of what is allowed.

once rhine lab was created, once it became succesful, and Kristen was at the top of it all, she had no need to "use" Saria anymore. their relationship fell apart because Saria could not "defend" her anymore, now that Kristen was in control. she doesn't need anyone to defend her now.

so now, i'm not saying that Kristen never had any consideration for Saria. people in these situations may not even realize that what they are doing is wrong, that they may hurt someone. and i do believe that Kristen cares about Saria, and in fact, she truly does;

she doesn't want Saria to be hurt, she actually did nothing that would hurt Saria. but is it the present Saria she cares about, or the past Saria? when Saria met Ifrit and Silence, she opened her heart to emotions, she who never had a family who cared about her, she saw this child being hurt, mistreated, alone, and she wanted to protect her. the present Saria may still struggle, but she discovered what it is to feel loved, which she probably never discovered with Kristen before.

but Kristen, she wants the Saria who is ready to step on boundaries, to ignore emotions, to achieve scientific avancement. she wants the Saria who protected her, who stood by her side when she was alone and hurt.

but, she knows that this Saria doesn't exist anymore and she knows that Saria would never have agreed with her, she knows Saria would have tried to stop her. she studied Saria, her way to fight, her Arts, and she literally created a barrier in her office that cancels her Arts, she created power armors who can also neutralize Saria's calcification. that means one thing, Kristen was afraid of Saria. she knew she fucked up.

of course, Kristen would ALWAYS be ready to welcome Saria with open arms, she doesn't want Saria to go away from her, she never accepted that she left Rhine Lab. maybe Kristen is idealizing a Saria who is like her.

their relationship is MMWAH chief's kiss I LOVE psychology and character development. what i say can work even if their relationship is purely platonic, but i enjoy the little twist it gives if it was romantic, which means that Saria had experienced something toxic and it made her afraid of love above all emotions, which fullfill my evil thoughts about Saria x Silence

Idk about Lone Trail.

It's not generally bad, but for the big Rhine Labs event there sure was a lot of stuff that wasn't Rhine Labs (it could definitely do with a little less Preserver).

Like, I get that they're following up on some of the RL story bits that they've planted in other things, but they probably should have given more time to Kirsten and Saria and just generally explored the pre-established character relationships more.

Also, Silence and, even more so, Ferdinand are main characters for no reason. Why? Genuinely, what was the purpose of giving them that much screen time?

It ended up being an event about legacy and progress that just happens to feature RL, and that seems off to me.

Also, the Doctor and Muelsyse thing is entirely unnecessary, and I want everyone to give them shit for it when they open the event survey. We can't have them doing this again.

Some thoughts on Cliffheart oprec2.

Continuing off my previous musings about the Silverash siblings' relationships post-RS, I have some new thoughts with Ensia's second oprec. As I began to mull over what class Ensia Alter could potentially be, I realized how interesting it is how the Silverashes are all trailblazers and explorers in their own right, all heirs of the legacy handed down to them from not just Olafur but his father before him.

Ensia's second oprec really puts into perspective the final line from Enya's module: "The children of Clan Silverash each walk their paths."

Yet Ensia's oprec also implies that, not unlike Gnosis's talent "Two Paths, One Goal," the siblings may walk different paths, but their destination is the same.

This is because, much as I said earlier, Enciodes and Enya both carry Kjerag in their hearts and truly care for and desire the best for it, even if they disagree on the method. And because they both have Kjerag in mind, they can understand each other despite their disagreements.

It also impresses me how much this oprec emphasizes how much Ensia has grown as a person. Back in "Letter" and BI, she always struck me as youthfully naive: yet now, three years since BI, it's clear that she's matured with experience and understands both the world around her and her siblings' relationship much better. My heart both ached and warmed as she laid out how much she actually understands what's going on in both of their minds. And thus, her belief that they will one day get along persists.

And now, rather than her desire being a simple, happy-go-lucky, "We can all get along like a happy family again just as we used to," it feels as if now she's saying, "You both understand each other's choices and each other's paths, and you still care about each other, so you can still sit down together." It feels like rather than Ensia trying to make things "exactly as they once were", she wants them to acknowledge the unspoken between them and still find enough common ground to be able to share a table. Rather than clinging to the old ways she remembers, she realizes they won't return, but that a new way is still possible.

Ensia doesn't know that her siblings have sat down together, and for the first time in a decade, spoken to each other exactly like siblings would--but maybe she feels it somewhere in her heart.

Maybe she can feel that as long as she keeps believing, things will eventually change.

I wonder just how her siblings will react to discover she's essentially become an ambassador... I'm sure they'll be so proud of her.

As a final point (for now at least), I think more than ever we will see the resolution of the siblings' conflict in Kjerag 3. The writing is clearly foreshadowing and building up to it. Similar to the conflict between Silence and Saria in the Rhine Lab storyline that was resolved in Lone Trail, I hope it will be resolved with the same elegance and aplomb the rest of the Kjerag storyline has had (which is something I may actually talk about later). I, for one, am perfectly content to wait for HG to cook the third installment if it means the same excellent quality as RS and these past three oprecs (Gnosis, Kjera, and Cliffheart).

Link Opinions on the name "Link"

Sky: this is His Name he chose it, no one else in Skyloft shares a name, why does this have to happen to him and Aer Name, come on here :<

Hero: IDK it's just Hyrules Most Popular Name, it's like being "John" legit don't care

Hope: NO ONE ELSE can be LINK there is so many things wrong with people who are Not Him being Link.

Rinku: she considers her name a gift from her family, to change it is unthinkable. Bonus: it makes for funny comments about being a "link" to/between things.

Wind: "Link" is just kinda boring ngl. One of these days a good nickname will stick. One day.

Engineer: It's something of a Legacy Name and she hopes to live up to it... Besides, it feels Right.

Ordon: It's a good name, simple, expresses an idea of connection. Everything he aims for.

Glider (wild): ...complicated. It's a piece of history, and it's one they will claim.

Smith: It's a family name and honor, but they're well practiced at accepting nicknames. Besides, Link Smith is a slightly amusing name for a blacksmith

Bean: He always liked his name, it's just got a good ring to it, and Saria always says it nicely. But nicknames are fun too!

Forest: Sometimes he's not sure if he wants more people to know it, or less. It's just gotten a bit hard to figure out how to introduce himself...

Could you talk more about your hcs for OoT Link and OoT Zelda's kids? I always love hearing more about them :)

I have so so many thoughts about oot zelink family.

So, their first 2 kids are twins, a boy and a girl, and were a surprise pregnacy somewhat a year and half into their marriage. Saria and Daru (Daru is named after Darunia) are chaotic little kids with all of their mothers ingenuity and their fathers knack for curiosity. More than once did Link and Zelda have to ensure that the twins weren't near anything explosive.

Saria resembles her mother but has her fathers nose and hair color (and his sass) while Daru resembles his father but has his mother's hair color and patient nature.

Impa ii is their youngest child, born three years after the twins. She was not as energetic as her older siblings in her younger years but that changed once she was old enough to hold a blade. She's much like her mother in the ways of being observant, patient, and calculating but she holds her fathers fiery passion and kindness.

When they're older, Saria is the one who inherits the crown while Daru decides to become a veterinarian and Impa ii continues the Sheikah legacy and is an ambassador for the kingdom.

I have many more thoughts but dont wanna spill them all just yet jsjsjs

More Dorothyposting but I think it's a shame she's not in Lone Trail because she is in many ways an interesting narrative foil to Kirsten. Both driven by loss of their parents, both wanting to build on their legacy, both blind to the harm they cause. But Dorothy is predominantly altruistic, and genuinely ignorant, and when confronted with the harm she's caused she shuts down her experiment, while Kirsten presses on regardless and, in various ways, indicates she is actually still very much on top of what's going on, but simply doesn't care, at least for the most part. She doesn't remember Ifrit because Ifrit doesn't matter, she doesn't care what Ferdinand is up to because it gives her time to work on her life's work, but she manipulates Saria and Muelsyse to a superhuman degree in the final confrontation.

Also, interestingly, Dorothy gets used by the military, while Kirsten uses them, and even builds the destruction of their "weapon" she built into the plan, denying them utterly. She is, to the end, "Control".

The story beats themselves are not dissimilar either, as the protagonists unravel the mystery of the researcher in question before the world-changing reveal and confrontation.

Dorothy's Vision is Hypergryph telling a *comparatively* straightforward story of a mad but "pure" scientist exploited by the military industrial complex, before asking "okay but what if she was a girlboss" expanding on and subverting these ideas in Lone Trail.

Of course if Dorothy was actually in Lone Trail she'd have probably undone the whole plot by explaining and disabling the transmitter right away, but anyway...

The hijras’ material conditions, positionality under a heterosexual regime, or even their activism and resistance to their society’s stigmatization come second to the navel-gazing solipsism of cissexual academics, rendering judgment from on high. It is a thoroughly hegemonic gaze, a fetishistic view in the original sense of the term, where the hijras’ symbolic value as either “gender-insurgents” or “upholders of patriarchy” matters more than their literal humanity, dignity, and survival. This parasitic, extractive impulse towards a marginalized population is frankly sickening, to say nothing of the sheer temerity required to postulate that people who are so thoroughly rejected and repressed by their society might be active agents in reinforcing the very institutions depriving and dehumanizing them—a conclusion only an academic could dream up.

The 2014 NALSA opinion that cited Reddy was not legislation, as such, but was to form the basis of a draft bill. Saria goes on to discuss how the opinion did not consult India’s transgender or hijra communities, nor did further legislation based on it. A series of legal missteps culminated in a ghastly 2016 bill, named ‘The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill of 2016’, which dramatically expanded the state’s role in gender recognition, requiring all trans people to first obtain a ‘Transgender Certificate’ and submit themselves to institutional scrutiny as a precursor to legal recognition. This proposition tore up all previous discussions on the right to self-identification, resulting in the mobilization of Indian trans communities in protest of a bill that was putatively meant to secure their rights. From Raymond to Nanda to Reddy to NALSA, we can trace a path from Western transmisogynistic fundamentalism to the legal, institutionalized Third-Sexing of all Indian trans people.

That is the legacy of Western academia, of cultural anthropology, of a field playing at decolonialism proving to be an instrumental imperialist accomplice to India’s codification of degendering.
