For your Manila by Night characters: what are their clans? Also I want to know about their Embraces, for the ones you haven't answered that for already :3
Tumblr media
haiii omg thank you so much for asking AAAA i couldnt talk about them to my pcs because they’d know some things that’d spoil them</3
So the Prince; Alejandra Miriam Salvador de Silva or just known as Prince de Silva or Ms. de Silva is a seventh generation Ventrue. When Manila was under the control of the Sabbat during the 1800’s, she diablerized her sire and step-father so she wasn’t originally this low of a generation number. She was born in the early 1800’s in Intramuros, the walled city of Manila into an aristocratic family. She went through an arranged marriage, leading her long plan of trying to kill her husband without it making it seemed she did it. Eventually after years of misery and anger, Alejandra managed to do it—though she was accused of being guilty of it a year later due to her dearest “friend” not being able to keep her mouth shut. During her arrest, her step-father came in and pried her out of her cell by paying off the guards. She was then, of course, embraced leading to nearly three decades of soul crushing, mind numbing, head twisting training as her step-father never had a son and decided “fuck it might aswell embrace my step-daughter she seems ambitious enough.” And yeah that’s kinda the reason why she’s such a power hungry, insanely driven politician now x
Next is Professor Rudy Aquino, born on 1852 and embraced on 1888, and unlike the others he’s not actually from Manila. He’s from much further north (Baguio). He was a professor that studied medicine and human anatomy and a person who was greatly passionate about surgery. He endured a lot of shit such as being outcasted from his village for not adhering to the rigid culture that he believed was weighing him down from his full potential and started to travel to seek out teachers and fellow doctors. Eventually, he ended up in Sabbat-ruled Manila in 1872 when he was 20. The chantry of Manila, at the time, was lacking members and didn’t want to fall to the hands of the Sabbat which is why most of their kindred became professors who secretly imprinted occult knowledge into their human students’ lessons. Eventually, Aquino would be ghouled by a member of the Manila Chantry and would study under him before being embraced! After that, Aquino would prove himself to be a worthy one to have been embraced.
Samuel Isaiah Fernandez, on the other hand, was a sort of…different story. They were born to a pretty wealthy family in comparison to pretty much most of the Filipino folk in the mid 1800’s, but they were born different in comparison to the rest of their siblings. Samuel had a bone growth abnormality which basically made it dangerous for them to be out of the watch of their parents and governess as any wrong move especially in a violent environment could lead to a deadly situation. Samuel became caged in their home, seeing the same maids and the same siblings everyday, yearning to see the world outside and well, they thought hey! It’s boring in this house, why not have some fun? Samuel was constantly infatilized by everyone in their life due to their condition, and they used this to their advantage by taking information out of people when they least expected it. Though, when their parents eventually succumbed to their deaths, Samuel’s siblings didn’t want to take care of them and they ended up being homeless. After this, they were embraced by a Nosferatu.
May Fernando, born Marianne P. Santos was your average girl in Manila. Actually no, she wasn’t normal to be honest. She was an outsider to her peers; constantly exploring, building ties with nature, and honestly just being filled with wanderlust. She dated her childhood bestfriend David Ramos when they were in junior year of high school, and this relationship lasted until they parted ways for college. May, funnily enough, studied to become a veterinarian! Though when she learned David had “died” in a fire, she returned back to Manila from Laguna after she had graduated. She remained in Manila afterwards, continuing to be a veterinarian before she was embraced by her sire, a guy she quite frankly didn’t know all that well but frequently saw. Now she’s a Gangrel anarch, and technically a stand in Baron of Tondo. She still uses her veterinary knowledge though!!!
There’s a LOT more to it but yeah here’s a rundown of them all🫶 thank you so so so so SO much hahshshshdhdh

Something that's recurring in most modern Doom designs is either being eyeless or having one eye.
For example, the eyeless designs:
Hellknight in 2016.
Summoner.
The Wintherin.
Eternal's Unwillings
One eyed designs:
Samuel Hayden
Mancubus in 2016
Harvester
Hell Razer (or do they fit the category above?)
Some Maykrs
Armored Baron (armor-wise)
2016's possessed zombies
Then there's those statues of Maykr/Demon/Wraith/etc related creatures you find in Sentinel related maps.
I guess even the UAC elite soldiers and other 2016 armor designs show this.
You can also bring up multiple eyes like the visor of 2016's Cybermanc maybe or the Prowler.

Nun Appleton House
Hi guys!!
I'm sharing Nun Appleton House. This is the 13th building for my English Collection.
I added aa garden, which is my own creation and not the original of the house.
History of the house: The hall itself is built of reddish-orange brick with ashlar dressings and a Welsh slate roof in three storeys to a rectangular floor plan. It is grade II listed and now stands in some 200 ha. of parkland.
The estate was acquired by The 1st Lord Fairfax of Cameron, a Yorkshireman with a Scottish peerage, following the Dissolution of the Monasteries, from whom it descended to The 3rd Lord Fairfax of Cameron, the well-known English Civil War commander, who built the present hall in the late 1600s.
In his time (1651) the estate was the inspiration for Andrew Marvell's Upon Appleton House, a significant country house poem. Marvell was tutor to Thomas Fairfax's daughter, Mary. After the death of Mary (who had married The 2nd Duke of Buckingham) in 1704 the estate was eventually sold in 1711 to Alderman William Milner of Leeds who carried out many alterations to the house.
His son William was created the 1st Milner Baronet, of Nun Appleton Hall in the County of York, in 1717 and was later Member of Parliament for York. The estate then descended in the Milner family until 1875, when the estate's owner, Sir William Mordaunt Milner, 6th Baronet, was more interested in gambling than looking after it.
By 1877 it had been leased to William Beckett-Denison, a wealthy Leeds banker. After the death of Sir William Milner in Cairo in 1881, his brother Frederick inherited the estate and in 1882 married Adeline, eldest daughter of William Beckett-Denison. After William Beckett's gruesome death in 1890, the Hall and estate were sold to Angus Holden, a sometime M.P. (later created Baron Holden), a woollen manufacturer from Bradford, whose ownership was somewhat brief as he died in 1912.
The hall was now empty and many of the tenanted farms were sold. The estate was put up for auction in 1914 and again in 1917 and eventually acquired by a private company which felled many of the trees but by 1919 had gone into liquidation. It was bought in 1920 by Sir Benjamin Dawson, 1st Baronet, another Bradford textile manufacturer, who was High Sheriff of Yorkshire for 1951–52. During the Second World War the hall was taken over by the London Maternity Hospital.
When the stable block accidentally burnt down it was afterwards refurbished as a theatre and made available to the local community.
The property was bought from the last occupant, Sir Benjamin's daughter Joan Dawson, for £1.2 million in the 1980s by Humphrey Smith of the Samuel Smith brewing family. The house is now fenced off, empty, unused and deteriorating.

TW: rape ⚠️
recently in italy seven men raped a 19yo woman. the crime was recorded by one of them who was friend of the girl; he watched everything behind the camera, he raped her too, he said nothing as his friend was begging them to stop. he then described what happened saying that "it was disgusting and it looked like a scene from a porn". angelo flores, 22 years old, gabriele di trapani, 19 years old, christian maronia, 19 years old, cristian barone, 18 years old, samuele la grassa, 20 years old, elio arnao, 20 years old, and r. p., a minor. these are their names and as you can see their fucking teens. they're called "monsters", "beasts", but they're not: they're men. they are someone's friend and someone's son. one day they will maybe be someone's husband and someone's father and that's FUCKING SCARY.
and honestly, i don't really think it's just a coincidence that they compared what they did to porn. it only shows how fucked up porn is and how it completely ruins people's mind. porn is not sex, it's abuse and hate against women.

This is wild that Lotus is like "Mwahaha it was me behind everything!" and Simon is like "I don't even know who you are?" and really like... I've wondered why since day one Lotus was dragged up from the WW2 order like... why this lady got such a hate on for Simon? (and looking it up, it isn't really explained until a 2000 story and then looking at that, it completely contradicts what is happening here? Man I dunno... weird choice.)
Anyway, everyone is so interested in Simon cause his soul is immortal and so all the people who like get powers from souls wanna get their hands on that... but it is extra funny with Force Works around the corner...

pentiment review & thoughts
so. i played pentiment. writing this while at my 4th play (with my first and third as same stats, different accusations). bookworm, hedonist, bookworm again, and now businessman. having a lot of fun so far.
was prompted bc 1) this game is a common rec for disco elysium players, 2) i got andreas maler in a blorbo uquiz, so of course i had to see what the fuss was about
spoilers, obviously:
prefacing first that. uh, i got into this game with relatively surface-level understanding of the late middle ages/early renaissance, and like very little of how this impacted germany. god bless the glossary. the only thing really guiding me was being catholic + my familiarity with benedictines (the people who ran the all-girls catholic school i studied in) so uh
given that, my 1st andreas had his wanderjahre in Italy, is a bookworm with skills towards Oratory and Logic, possessing a Master's in Theology. this will be about the first play
act i
what an introduction. i played off my andreas as an intellectual with a love for God but also a concern for people regardless of class, and i just went around being as respectful as possible. emphasis on "as possible," bc i can refuse to be a Lutheran and still criticize the abbey actually <- pissed off both gernot and rothvogel
the DRUCKERS! my best friends :)
spent much of my dinners with the farmer-peasants. had a meal with sebhat as well. tassing is so alive!!!
the implication that andreas fell asleep if you choose to watch matthieu and rüdeger go at it is very funny to me. monk sex is boring ig. also sorry zdena, im too worried about piero to fuck you right now
why did i think the baron was just an intellectual outcast. of course he's an asshole who abuses his power
THE KIDS! THEY ARE SO LOVELY!
none of these suspects feel like the murderers. tbh i probably should've settled on lucky bc he had the most damning evidence in retrospect. but ferenc just had more, and i was able to push him to the archdeacon
i am a coward and did not look at the execution
act ii
this Andreas just came from France!
"you are banned from the abbey, but i need you to come join me for dinner" okay father gernot???
the golden hand inn looks sooo pretty. surprised i could only make conversation with samuel until the troops were like, really close/the drinking quest
things got worse, a revolt is in formation. this was apparently a trend all over germany at the time, and not limited to tassing. weirdly familiar huh
when you want to escape from your problems via involving yourself from the problems others instead
caspar my boy! im glad to have known you
the Sommerfelds are so lovely
these aqueducts are so cool
it was so much easier to pick Guy, as far as the evidence i got on him is concerned. your embezzlement had an effect on the abbey's management of tassing, which is now biting all of you in the ass
i knew Lenhardt was an ass but i didnt think he'd go as far as to protect the accused
that ending holy shit
act iii
haha i opened tumblr before getting here and got spoiled about the mysterious guy following magdalene
my magdalene bg is Vitae Sanctorum, Bookkeeping, Haggle, & Volksbücher
Ötz you are adorable but you do not suit Magda at all
it does not help that the town ships the two
every single theme is coming together. the question... of history!
the letter writing being so prominent here is very felt
the familiar and unfamiliar are so clouded as time progresses, its insane
apparently ill peter can live *that* long
i learned the hard way after my first run that werner will be an outright asshole in act iii if andreas doesnt speak with him well via my second run; see, my major and only interaction with the guy in run 1 is during the drinks quest in act ii. the difference is stark
martha pfieffer i wish i got more time with you <- got her contemplating the monastic life in the 1st run only? i wonder what triggers this
fucked up that i couldnt send sister susanne out. i think i played my magda too nice with the nuns
snitched on the twins immediately whoops. this is fine, i can go down the mines myself
haha i thought baltas was an act iii-only character, i straight up didnt interact with him during act ii and probably forgot he spoke during the discovery of otto's body
the readying for christmas was sooo brain-sctatchy. seeing the direct effects of our choices in the previous acts, it's so!!!
gotta be real, i thought the discussions on historiography and historical revisionism were like, just there? i didn't think it would be the core of the problem but. of course it is. it makes me feel very stupid for not pointing at father thomas sooner
like, if you spend significant amounts of time with the guy enough, his distrust of collective lay men and assertion towards the authority of the church is like, very very obvious. you see it during the dinner with the baron. when he says the words that triggers peter into burning the abbey. when you talk about claus publishing the 12 articles and agreeing upon the suggestion of banning book reading. the story of how he and sister amalie escaped the fire from their old abbey. in my 3rd run, i got strong hints when i (andreas) decided to eat with the albans (fr. thomas is present in the meal), particularly when discussing the strictness of the abbot
also, notably, in my 3rd run, during the conversation with father thomas for the christian tassing quest, a Vitae Sanctorum Magdalene can ask about the veracity of the story regarding the marian apparition, our lady of the labyrinth. when father thomas asks why she's pondering on it, if Magda is also of Volksbücher bg, she can bring up comparisons to a story she read about a man who tricked a town into believing a head he possessed was a relic from a saint. Father Thomas will then outright ask whether Magdalene thinks that it is valid of the guy to lie about that. Whatever you make Magda respond, he clearly values it. that fucked me up upon discovery, especially since i chose not to question the story of the church in my first run. that's outright foreshadowing, especially since that conversation literally takes place inside said church
anyways, i considered for a moment as to how conscious Sister Amalie was about the notes she wrote. to my fury (against thomas) and relief (for her), she was very unaware. fucking hell, i love christian mystics, and i outright ignored the implications of father thomas as her interpreter
like, i knew such interpreters would twist the testimonies of mystics to assert the church's authority, but. i assumed that this, like the obvious real-time historical revisionism in-game, was just shit that happens. not the core. another blow to my observation skills, but what matters to me is that i figured it out eventually
i had an inkling claus would die but not like that D":
like. magda on christmas eve. dad's friend is back from the dead. the town priest has been responsible for the deaths of people who risked the secrets of the town. dad is dead. idk if the devs over there are interested in spin-offs, but the time between christmas 1543 and when magda leaves for prague should be known
the müller kids really take after their parents, and seeing them interact with old man maler really warmed my heart
ugh, what a lovely game. it deserves its praises

Established in 1639, the English East India Company’s settlement at Madras (also known as Madraspatam or Chinapatam, now Chennai) had quickly become the focal point of EIC operations on the Coromandel Coast. By 1695, Samuel Baron described it as ‘the most considerable to the English nation of all their settlements in India whether ... in reference to the trade to and from Europe, or the Commerce from one part of India to the other’. The later attempts to establish trades to China and Japan, to resettle the Indonesian archipelago, and to gain a foothold in Bengal, were all directed from Fort St George. [...]
Browne [an English surgeon] used his patrons in the Mughal establishment and the Company hierarchy to build up a lucrative business supplying drugs to the camps of the Mughal generals. Browne’s contacts in the Mughal army were also useful for the Company [...].[D]uring the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, Madras was in a difficult position. [...] Again, Company officials turned to the network of surgeons with access to the Mughal hierarchy [...]. In 1707, the year of the Emperor Aurangzeb’s death and a time of political unrest in the Mughal Empire, Bulkley was sent to Arcot on a mission that combined medical and diplomatic aims. While there, he also collected several volumes of plants and information about their medicinal virtues. [...] The network of contacts that could be built up between physicians, who had the advantage of close personal access to those at the centre of power, was an important way to exchange information and gifts. [...] Knowledge of plants and the means of employing them was thus crucial to establishing the East India Company’s position in India [...].

The Company’s gardens [...] also revealed, in their beds and borders, the networks that Madras was embedded within, as ships brought seeds and plants from other Company settlements, the territories of the rival European powers, and places of regional trade [...]. The surgeons used their space in the Company gardens to experiment with local plants and to introduce crops from around the world. [...] Both Browne and Bulkley also raised plants they received from their networks of correspondents overseas: Browne describes growing China root, a popular medicinal substance normally identified with Smilax China, rhubarb, cinnamon trees from Ceylon (Sri Lanka), and wild agallo, benjamin and camphor from Manilla. [...]
[T]he scramble for the manuscripts or [plant] collections [...] [demonstrates] that the acquisition of natural knowledge was a crucial part of the competition between European trading companies to acquire and exploit the wealth of the Indies. Each of the two surgeons [Browne and Bulkley] [...] also sent a huge amount of plant materials to various correspondents in Europe [...]. Among the contacts that the surgeons maintained in England were several London apothecaries including his brother-in-law, who ran a shop in Bread Street, and Mr Porter, a drug-gist in Cornhill Street. The circle of botanists who received collections from the East Indies formed a close, though not always friendly, group of experimenters and gardeners who constituted the overlapping membership of the East India Company, the Royal Society, and the Society of Apothecaries.
The web of contacts that the two surgeons maintain within the colonial world of the Indian Ocean were invaluable because they provided them with the materials necessary to make Madras a ‘centre of calculation’ by supplying them with materials on which comparisons and connections to their own collections could be drawn. [...] Bulkley wrote at a time of transition in both England and India. [...] However, it is clear at least that by the time Bulkley died in 1713, being buried at the end of his garden, the United Company was more securely established at Madras, as expressed in its now immaculate gardens.

The networks of doctors had been crucial diplomatic actors in a critical period during which many believed that Madras was fated to be eclipsed altogether. [...] It was the new relationship with the rulers of Arcot established by these doctors that eventually enabled the Company to consolidate its base at Calcutta.
The surgeons’ collections reflect the hybrid environment of early modern Madras and the networks – maritime, military and diplomatic – that the doctors were embedded in [...]. Many details are missing from this reconstruction of the practice of medicine and botany in the early colonial city. Unlike the contributors to the Hortus Malabaricus, we never learn so much as the names of the Tamil and Telugu-speaking doctors who were so crucial in collecting and revealing the medicinal uses of the specimens the surgeons sent to London. Nevertheless, the role of these collaborators was clearly crucial. [...]
The collections of these two surgeons, who were key players in the transformation of politics and botany in the region, straddling local and international concerns, in many ways provide the perfect portal through which to view Madras as it was transformed from a trading post subservient to the interests of regional powers to a major player in British colonial expansion.
