Safetyism in the UK:
No, you can't buy melatonin, you need prescription for this because we need to protect you from getting addicted to it.
Also safetyism in the UK:
Teenagers addicted to Tiktok and sex? You can't breathe when outside/ you can't open your windows because it smells weed everywhere? All good, nothing wrong with these kinds of addictions. Just DONT BUY MELATONIN WITHOUT PRESCRIPTION, IT IS DANGEROUS!!!
*In the meantime, me having sleep issues for more than 2 months now, can't find anything useful in the pharmacy and even doctors refuse to prescribe some bloody melatonin, as if I've got a medical history of addictions........*

As Prescribed: Electric scooter, bike accidents are soaring
🫠 Greatful my sisters grew up wearing helmets. There's probably a reason Gen X grew up hearing "Nevermind." My dad thought it wasn't needed as I'd be biking through local residential areas where people were rather friendly and would rush to help others out. When heading to a SF lake for fresh air and getting 4-8mi down, it was a place where you got to recognize all you'd run across on the regular. Helping others out would be the same as my going to the grocery store and strangers checking if I'm ok with carrying a heavy load with me as I'm on my way home 🏡.
"E-scooters, one third of the time that someone presented to the emergency room, they had a head trauma. And the fact that when you see folks riding, not everyone's wearing a helmet, I think there should really be a rallying cry for more helmet use amongst riders," said Dr. Breyer. "A head injury in any age person can really be a devastating long-term problem. And anything we can do to reduce those is important."
Nowadays my siblings are sure to wear their helmets and let the family and partners know what they'll be up to. Back in the day, I actually went snowboarding without a helmet as well as rollerblading and bike riding on trails.
Have I mentioned that I'm decades older than my siblings?

Making ATV Riding Safer: New Ways to Protect Riders and Prevent Accidents
ATVs (All-Terrain Vehicles) are super fun to ride, especially in India where many people love outdoor adventures. But it's important to stay safe, especially when kids are riding ATVs. This blog will talk about how ATV makers are improving safety features to keep riders safe and prevent accidents, especially for kids who want to ride ATV in India.
ATV Bikes in India
In India, lots of people enjoy riding ATVs for fun or for going off-road. ATV makers here are working hard to make sure their bikes can handle tough terrain and keep riders safe.
ATV Bikes for Kids
When it comes to kids riding ATVs, safety is the most important thing. ATV bikes for kids have special features to make sure they can have fun while staying safe. These features include things like speed limits, controls that parents can adjust, and switches that can turn off the ATV from a distance. Kids also need to wear safety gear like helmets, gloves, and pads to protect themselves.
New Safety Features
ATVs now come with cool safety features to keep riders safe:
Roll cages and strong frames: These protect riders if the ATV tips over or crashes.
Seat belts and straps: These keep riders securely in place, especially on bumpy rides.
Materials that absorb impacts: These materials are used in the ATV's body to reduce injuries in accidents.
Stickers and signs: These show important safety tips and rules for riding safely.
Preventing Accidents
Besides safety features, ATV makers are also doing these things to prevent accidents:
Teaching and training: They offer safety classes to teach riders how to ride safely.
Checking the ATV regularly: Regular checks make sure the ATV is working well and safe to ride.
Knowing the terrain: Riders learn about different types of terrain and how to ride safely on each one.
Adults watching kids: Kids should always have an adult watching them when they ride ATVs to avoid accidents.
Conclusion
The owner of ATV Bike India emphasized that while ATVs offer thrilling adventures, prioritizing safety is extremely crucial.. ATV makers are adding new safety features and teaching people how to ride safely. Whether you're a kid or an adult, remember to wear your safety gear and follow the rules for a fun and safe ATV ride!

I’m screaming. I’m trying to gif the pool scene from “The Big Bang Job” and when Eliot rolls his eyes at Chapman I just realized he’s passing a no pushing sign. I’m laughing so hard because foreshadowing for poor Hardison.

my boss: can you believe it? my teenage son spent all night on his chromebook again; I could barely wake him up for school!
me: oof, that sucks. what was he doing?
my boss: well the tracking thing said he was on...git...hub?
me: ...oh? that's cool! that's a site for coders; you can find some really cool projects on there! I wonder what he was up to
my boss: I'll ask my husband. he said he'd check the history
(pause while boss texts her husband)
my boss: oh. he was looking for a way to get past the tracking software...
me, internally: based!! so proud of him!! godspeed dude, I believe in you!
me, out loud: oh, uh...parenting. parenting is hard, huh?
my boss: you have no idea T_T

This whole submarine situation is a grim reminder that safety features are there for SAFETY rather than inconvenience, and that regulations are often written in blood.
The juxtaposition of the company going from "isn't it great that we built such a cost effective submersible without having to deal with clunky equipment or pesky regulations" to "we regret to inform you that 5 passengers including our CEO are sealed inside a death pod with very little chance of rescue" is absolutely haunting but is an outcome that you could have seen coming from miles away unlike the submersible due to a lack of safety features

Rant on fire safety
Tumblr media
While absolutely gorgeous, I HATE this trend of "aesthetic candles". This is from a local witch shop, that sells these candles. Look at it! It's an absolute fire hazard. A plastic flower molten into the wax. You should not have plastic anywhere near a candle flame. Look at the glitter. Guess what? ALSO PLASTIC.
At best it's gonna smell horrendous, because molten plastic stinks. But burn enough of these candles and you're likely to give yourself cancer. Yes, you read that right. Do no inhale fumes of molten plastic!
Stop making candles with materials that shouldn't be burnt! ffs

Heartbreaking: Worst Person You Know Has A Point
so, Gabriel and Sara Chrisman, right? Victorian lifestyler couple from Bellingham, Washington. also assholes who are on-record comparing bad costuming at historical events to blackface, claiming that women's suffrage activists were "misguided" and didn't really NEED to vote, and apparently expressing anti-vaxx sentiments on a now-deleted video. we've all seen them
in 2016, they were denied entry to the Butchart Gardens in British Columbia- after booking ahead for both tickets and a separately-priced high tea -because they were wearing "costumes." a policy not then articulated on the gardens' website
now, while they expressed this in the most obnoxious and thoughtless way possible on their blog post about the matter ("would you ask a Muslim woman to remove her hijab?" and "well WE were dressed decently; everyone else was almost naked!!!!!" and oh my god shut your histrionic FACES)...I kind of agree with them in principle here?
it seems like a really weird policy/situation on several levels:
the gardens claimed that they didn't want the Chrismans mistaken for entertainers hired by the site. but they offered them spare staff uniforms to change into? which would make them look like literal employees of BG?
the amended policy added to the website after the incident says that "historic dress" is not allowed. where's the cutoff? would I be turned away if i showed up in a peplum top, a mustache necklace, and coral skinny jeans? How Modern to Ride, Butchart Gardens?
vintage fashion is very popular and a lot of people who wear it don't even keep modern-style clothing. I don't; why would I? so it's not a "costume" for everyone, by a long shot
furthermore, a review from 2014 had a woman who showed up in a modern white sundress turned away with her boyfriend in a linen suit (no tie) because they looked "too formal/like a wedding couple." they were there for the high tea
so you advertise high tea, something notably dressy...and then deny people service for being too dressed up? where is the logic here?
"okay Marzi, but it's surely clarified now! this was nine years ago; who cares?"
well...it's not
or, it is, but it's not easy to find
when you go on the website, there's a drop-down menu at the top with links for info and to buy tickets. there IS an FAQ page...but no mention of the Modern Casual Only dress code
you have to scroll down to the bottom of any page and click a tiny link marked "garden etiquette" to see this policy. so someone like me, who literally does not own modern clothing, could EASILY book tickets, plan a whole day of their trip around it- and then show up and be turned away as too anachronistic for admission
("they should have read the whole page though!" dressing historically isn't a problem in 99% of life situations, including museums, botanical gardens, etc. nobody would assume they should be looking for this with the rigor of an allergen on a menu, or disability accomodations. it's not an issue most of the time, so we're not accustomed to treating it like one)
anyway. I can't believe I'm on the Chrismans' side on anything besides "historical clothing pretty" but...here we are. weirdest guest policy at a botanical garden ever

Billy Batson and child safety laws
I'm finally free from my studies for a little bit so I immediately brain-rotted about Billy Batson. I kept thinking back on the Fawcett Freeze and how he and a lot of other people were trapped in the past (I HC the entire town), so when introduced to the modern day world, there would be some confusion.
Not about technology, medicine, or any of that important junk.
But about the kids of that era in the modern world, being so confused about why they can't play their dangerous games anymore. They don't think there's anything wrong about the way they play, but any person from the modern age can see that there's a group of Fawcett kids playing "toss the brick in the air" and complaining that their metal playgrounds got taken away.
Billy: What do you mean we can't play in the streets anymore? Running from the speeding cars were the best part! Average adult: It's not safe! Oh my god that's just plain dangerous, you know!
Billy: Ah, kids these days. Look, sometimes some of us got bruises from having fun, and sometimes we'd get black eyes when we played Duck Duck Goose, but we were fine. No need to worry about it too much, sir.
Average Adult, shocked: H-how do you get a black eye from playing Duck Duck Goose?! How did Fawcett's kids even survive recess back then?
