And the second he was in your arms. He was at peace again. It was like you were meant to do this while being a powerful warrior. He tends to daydream about. You would watch all of them like a hawk and made sure they don't get into it any trouble. One time a little human girl almost ran into the street and you with your inhumane reflexes got her by her arm before a Motorcycle can hit her. You even treated Li like He was your son making sure he ate healthy got plenty of sleep even go As far as washes clothes or bandage up his bruises. He's starting to wonder if you yourself wants to be a mother. But he's nervous to ask cause last time you broke his mask While he was wearing it. But between you and me you will love to be mother

(HIB Wukong) He noticed how You are much more attentive to Liuer then he is. Not just with him but with all the village children. He has seen you viciously rip the head Of a demon that was messing with the tool of you. But the next moment you're helping a young mother calmed down her new born baby. Like you were the mother of that child as well. It probably doesn't help out a lot of the Village children dubbed you as mama (Y/N). As you were always protecting them along with protecting Liuer If this doesn't get it through Wukong's Thicks Skull that you want a child then I don't What to tell you.

(Mk Reborn Wukong) He seen you like that with fruity. You lay watse to demon armies for a living yet You find yourself attending to a tiny baby fruit fairy??? You clearly don't seem Mind but it's confusing to him a little. He would always tease you about it and you would always cave his face in. Even with the monk in the village , the children would rather talk to you than to him. Your answers to things are funnier , but it makes more sense to where they even they'll understand. Then they will come and ask more questions what's your patient enough to answer. He could not believe his eyes. Usually when people are annoying, you would already rip their heads off their shoulders. But then again, these are just children that are talk into you. They're no real threat or annoyance they're just being themselve. When this whole journey thing is over , he'll wanna pull you to the side and ask if you want to start a family. You know wanna you won't kill him.

(Netflix Wukong) He is already aware of how popular you are with the village children. One moment you're caving in the face of a invader Is demon who dared to attack Your home. The next moment you're on your helping a small child who scraped their knee. You even kissed it better to be sure does there no longer in pain. You also get protective Of my inner things falling objects treacherous walk ways Do we even take the time to explain to the children That there are some tools they are far too young to use yet Such as kitchen knives. You don't even like them running around with sticks they found on the ground You watch every single one of them like a hawk just like a mother would. A lot at a time he will be on the side blushing of already imagining the family you would probably have In the late future.

and here we are in s5 with Nines referencing both the Allegory of the Cave and Pandora’s Box. two stories that are about the blessings and curses that come with understanding the world around you. leaving the cave meant leaving the reality forced upon you, but opening Pandora’s box meant unleashing horrors you could no longer be ignorant of in your humble home

MK has already stepped out of the cave but denies it’s reality, not yet ready for the truth it holds. despite this, he already opened her box and whether or not he accepts the “true” reality, MK will find new consequences for unleashing the power of the colored stones on the whole of the earth.

a character study thing, but it contains spoilers for the special!

what's really making me insane is the juxtaposition of macaque in season 4 / the s4special and his previous appearances in the show, where he was batshit crazy.

like. okay. as far as we know, THIS is the youngest we've seen macaque, right? he's much different than the first introduction we had to him. attentive, soft spoken, introverted for sure (he's all by himself here, until wukong finds him - which makes me think he has the tendency to run off and hide from others as it's reference multiple times)

wukong of course, has an infectious like energy and brings out the playfulness in macaque. he gets him to loosen up and helps him not worry so much, to just relax and enjoy himself, and their life. macaque is always a little uptight, because he has such incredible hearing. he's the one with the braincell the majority of the time. wukong is the impulsive troublemaker, but macaque is always there to bail him out and get him out of that trouble.

wukong is usually the instigator of their shenanigans, as he mentioned in this scene 'correction: WE'RE really going through with this, like always!'

and macaque, he tried expressing his uncertainty about challenging the jade emperor to wukong, who either wasn't listening or likely waved it off because the others were hyping him up so much.

he quieted those concerned when wukong reassured him that they would return home and live out the rest of their days in peace together.

when peng gave him shit for not commenting on sun wukong's apparent 'betrayal' and he tried to tell them to consider other options, he was silenced immediately. and now, with the reveal of what was likely the catalyst for his falling out with swk revealed, the argument they had under the mountain, it's clear that NOBODY ever took him seriously, nor appreciated him and what he did. if anything, he became a scapegoat. for daring to speak up and protest against his peers.

macaque is wise, he's wiser than what people give him credit for. he HAS to be, he's the one with omnipresent hearing! he's called the six-eared macaque for a reason! his ability to even hear into the future grant him enough insight to know when shit isn't a good idea, to know when things are going BAD and he needs to do something. he's a planner, and he KNOWS this. he's incredibly observant, able to recognize the monkey king's flaws and fears even when wukong himself cannot. and even despite that, he never gave swk shit for his impulses until wukong decided it was MACAQUE'S fault swk was trapped under the mountain. he was fed up with taking all this bullshit from the people he cared about. from people who were suppose to care about him.

and when sun wukong was finally freed, what happened? macaque, probably was still bitter, but clearly he still cared. he probably still had hope, maybe wukong would have come to his senses and they could finally live out their dream together. but... no. wukong had a new destiny to follow. a destiny that didn't involve macaque like he promised.

he was abandoned. and it's very clear as the show has expressed multiple times that this was GUTTING for macaque. he was alone, and had no remaining support system left. what happens when someone is left by themself with no one to help them through such heartbreak? they become extremely vulnerable and can spiral into this pain and darkness, but even worse than that, they can miss the warning signs for when something evil takes advantage of them. macaque eludes to this in shadowplay, when he gives MK shit for not noticing his friends were missing and in trouble.

i'm still following the theory that macaque was possessed/influenced by the lady bone demon during jttw. she saw his crumbling friendship with swk, and realized that she could use it to her advantage. it would explain why macaque talks like something really bad happened to him that wasn't just being left behind by swk, but something else that ultimately lead to him being killed, forcing him into a debt to LBD he never wanted part of. it's already shown that LBD's influence pulls out the darkest thoughts from people to the forefront, and macaque? he was not in any stable state of mind! not like before, where he wasn't letting his anger and pain and bitterness cloud his judgement. before he had his heart broken. he was suffering, and she took advantage of this.

and that's where we get this motherfucker. outcast by his sworn brothers, turned on by his best friend and later suffered the ultimate betrayal through death, taken advantage of by evil demons, now full of vengeful anger and hatred for the monkey king and everyone who worships the guy. after everything he did for those he loved, he got left in the dust. never championed for his goodness and light he once had, just forgotten.

macaque went from a soft, quiet, rational soul to a chaotic madness ridden bastard, reflecting sun wukong's worst qualities as he accepted by this point, he really was just the monkey king's shadow.

and i just think that's neat.

HOLY SHIT!!! This fits so perfectly with these ships!! Pardon me as I rant about this because DUDE! Your art has inspired me!!!!

Wukong's never happy with where he's at, he always wants more and more. Picture the celestials in cannon as the rich upper class society in this. Mac is his husband who would just be happy with a small middle class life with SWK. BUT Wukong gets the brilliant side show idea and ropes Mac into it cause he knows Mac's talented and he could be in the spotlight (which Mac loves cause he's a theater kid). Then they get more performers (Mei, Sandy, DBK, PIF, Red Boy, etc). And then he ropes MK into it all; idk why maybe he's a rich kid like the movie or MK just wants to join cause it's fun, again idk but he's here now and we're moving on. Then BAM Red Son and MK's meeting and flirting and wanting but not wanting each other.

Meanwhile SWK is still hungry for more cause it's never enough. Mac meanwhile just wants him to stay and be happy with what they have. And then at a social event they meet the Camel Ridge trio. SWK plans on making them stars and draws up plans to go on tour with them. Mac is against this cause he can see how Azure stares at his man. And he just wants Wukong to be happy here with him and their mini circus family. But SWK leaves Mac and MK behind and goes on tour with Camel Ridge. Camel Ridge do very well but the OG circus is not. They've got a lot of haters and a lot of people Wukong swindled/conned all coming at them. They're trying to handle it but it's definitely not going great. While this is all happening Red Son and MK are trying the romance thing but it's slow and hesitant and adorable!

Then on tour Azure kisses SWK, and like the movie things start to fall apart. Wukong runs back but that night the circus catches fire (or something dramatic) and Wukong barely rescues MK in time. Everyone's mad at Wukong, maybe Mei even lays into him like she did in cannon. Anyway then Nezha (the upperclass guy who still entertains SWK socially and banters with him a bit) checks on him and the burnt remains on everything. Reveals the kissing pic to SWK who hauls ass to Macaque to try and apologize. Mac's pissed that he's never enough the circus wasn't enough, nothing was. So drama continues like the movie. The ray of silver lining is Red Son and MK actually getting together :3 Then MK puts the wind back in SWK's sails and such.

Personally I wouldn't want Mac to forgive SWK right away, I think the movie rushed that a bit. So I'd end it with Mac still staying at the circus cause of their found family. But he's got more sassy and isn't as giving in to SWK, more like how he in in cannon. So Wukong and him still have feelings for each other, but Mac is still salty and still gets to be the bitchy emo we love him to be.

and plot rant finished! Sorry I just had to get that out. This AU is great holy shit! Can't believe I never thought to put LMK and this movie together! Thank you @introverted-monkey-noises!! :D

Due to the fact that HE knows Wukong very well, this might imply that he already knew about LBD and Wukong’s intentions before Wukong told him.

Perhaps he tries to warn Wukong about LBD through past experiences, what makes her so dangerous was not how powerful she is but how well she can manipulate ones and let them fall into her hand. Wukong may have defeated her before, but he might not fully understand her ability.

And how did he know about LBD being released and Wukong’s intentions, throughout season 2 Wukong went around the Celestial Realm and looked for answers about LBD:

Nezha, despite having to stay in one place because he had to protect the map, must have heard of rumors about Monkie King running around and asking questions about this Bone Demon.

He knew that she’s been released the moment he heard the name because there must be some kind of past experiences between her and him, which is why he knows what she’s capable of.She probably traumatized him when he was young like leading him into murdering innocents or something because he was still a simple minded kid.

If Nezha knows DBK so well to the point that he knows he would keep a fire ring with him, then there’s no doubt that he’d know Wukong x10 even more. And he knows SWK would dive head first in situations that’s grim like these.

do you find mk's arc in s3 a tad repetitive? i saw this point brought up in a video essay on his series long arc

Naw man.

Progress isn't linear. MK more often than not makes progress in an area and then promptly regresses afterwards (like in ROTSQ MK learned that he was separate from SWK, and that he had to find "his own way to win", which he then completely abandons in the back half of s2. After Minor Scale it's all about becoming as powerful as Monkey King as quick as he can). I like to joke MK is "2 steps forward 4 steps back" the character. He'll say "We're stronger together" in 2x10, but by the time 4x08 rolls around he's wondering if he'll just end up hurting the people he cares about (and then he'll fail to apply this logic to why Wukong would choose to take similar actions, say during s2 or at the end of s3, being delightfully hypocritical).

Then there's where MK actually is development wise at the end of s2 vs s3. By the end of s2 he's lost all of his abilities and given LBD everything she needs to destroy the world, with the only good thing happening being Monkey King's return. Of course he's worried about facing the Lady Bone Demon like he is in s2—in fact, the threat got much worse. Not only is LBD more powerful, but both him and Monkey King are powerless. Their only hope is in an uncontrollable weapon they have to reforge.

In s1 MK is just trying to master his new role as the Monkey Kid (even then wanting to protect his friends and the city, thank you 1x01). In ROTSQ he believes he'll never be as good as Wukong, carrying this belief into s2. As the stakes keep growing, MK feels more and more pressure to live up to the legacy of Monkey King, and in that desperation becomes the perfect pawn in LBD's plans. He assumes he was the wrong choice, the wrong successor, and that Wukong knows that too. After he realizes Wukong left for him in s2, in s3 he then jumps to Wukong ditching him over being a "mere mortal" again. But, MK wants to help. He wants to save his friends. By the end of s3, we've still yet to acknowledge the core issue MK's had since the AHIB special: his self-confidence. His identity and his esteem. MK's never been happy with himself (except for that one time in ROTSQ):

But, after ROTSQ came Wukong leaving in 2x01, LBD's manipulation in 2x05, Macaque's manipulation in 2x07, his ultimate failure in 2x10, being powerless in 3x01, Wukong's lies throughout s3, Wukong and Mei both leaving at the end of 3x10, and then the "to pain scene" in 3x14.

And then in s4 we hammer the nail in the coffin further with 4x07 and 4x08 living up to LBD's words: doing what you think is right leads to pain.

I think the end of TEW will be another ROTSQ situation, where currently MK is okay leaving the world a little bit better than he found it, but it's a philosophy on a shaky foundation. All it'll take is one push to all come crumbling down (and we have SO many things at this point that could be that push—MK's origins/true identity, SWK and Macaque's true falling out, another world ending calamity [no 'ol half marathons here]). Because, at the end of the day, MK may leave the world better than he found it, but he still needs to be okay making mistakes and being MK. He needs to be okay with hurting the people he cares about, because that's what happens as a part of life. He's still so hung up on keeping everything the same. He wants a world where both him and his friends never have to struggle, which will just never happen.

Like, it's ridiculous to me how high of a note the s4 special ended on for everyone in the gang. It's like being on the final episode of a season and seeing that everything's resolved and great, but knowing there's 20 minutes left before the end. You just know it's all going to come crashing down. It's going to get worse before it gets better.

And you know what! I'll say this: being mentally ill is repetitive. And that's what MK is. He has anxiety. He has depression. I mean this seriously and sincerely. MK's running around in circles in his own mind trying to run away from himself (doing so quite literally in 4x07). But he can't man. None of us can.
