13) Does your OC have a rival? How did it start?

For Chandra, sorta yes. i have art that i will post soon for gtober that introduces the character Sköll.

Sköll is the monster that ambushed her village. i based it off of the character from norse mythology of the same name: a wolf who pursues the sun and the moon alongside its brother, Hati.

in my story, the sun and the moon are gods who created fairies in their image. so that is why the wolves go after their villages.

after the ambush, Chandra escapes and goes on a journey to become stronger so she can regain vengeance for her people. so, yeah, i guess you could say Sköll is her rival even though it’s not like another person, but a monster.

for barret, i’m not sure. i bet he has a lot of enemies but not a “rival” you could say. he thinks so high of himself i don’t think he would be able to consider anybody on the same level as him, enough to let it be called a rivalry at least. (even though he’s not that strong).

but if anyone were to ever threaten his power as a soul-dealer i think there would be problems. i might make a character like that soon since i have actually been conceptualizing one for a while.

30) My OC and your OC are friends. This isn't a question. I'm not asking. (How do they respond?)

hehehe… this made me truly think about how difficult it is for my characters to actually get along with others. like- barret is too stuck-up to have anybody who respects themselves enough to be friends with him. chandra is actually really withdrawn from society and is rarely seen around people she’s not close to. but in a world where they actually managed not to scare off other people being absolute dorks, our OC’s friendship would be so funny to me.

barret would be baffled at the size of a real giant. his ego would crumble at the thought of somebody picking him up or crushing him with ease. but after realizing Andrew probably doesn’t want to fight, he’d lighten up a little. the constant teasing wouldn’t let up tho.

“how’s the weather up there, big guy?”

“wow, what’d your parents feed you?”

“do you live at the top of a giant beanstalk?”

he’d actually like to show his battle skills to Maya. he’d probably think her guns are cool, seeing as how advanced guns don’t exist yet in this universe.

chandra would be absolutely terrified of Andrew, and wary of Maya too as she is of all people, especially non-fairies. but i’m sure they’d be able to find a common interest. especially in exploration and wanting to know more about the world or nature. i bet they would have a lot to talk about regarding their larger buddies as well lmao.

Keeper -- a short comic about an angel meeting a robotic lighthouse keeper that doesn't know the world has already ended. Made in about 18 hours for a 24-hour 24-page* black and white comic challenge (that I arrived late to, ha.)

This was a really great learning experience as someone who's... never really made a completed comic. I ended up really attached to the story by the end of the project (possibly due to all-nighter deliriousness lol) and ultimately am very proud of what I made.There are some things I'd still like to change, particularly text placement, but in keeping with the spirit of the challenge I've elected to leave it as is.

Being someone who read Under The Red Hood and came out with the firm belief that, for Jason, it's not about killing Joker, it's about Jason wanting proof Batman would choose him over the Joker (bc shelia chose the joker). Makes seeing any other media where it's all about just wanting the Joker dead is a teeny bit frustrating. to be honest

Jason could've killed the Joker himself, really, really easily. Jason kidnaps the Joker before the confrontation. I can't open my comic for a reference right now, but it felt like he had the Joker for quite a bit before the confrontation. He had him. He beat him up with a crowbar. He had every single opportunity to kill the Joker himself, but he didn't because that wasn't his goal. Make no mistake, he did plan for the Joker to be dead by the end of it, but do you see what im trying to say here

Edit: If I knew this post was gonna get 1000+ notes I would've tried to word it better or something, this was a rant I made on the way to the grocery store 😭

It's not about making Batman kill either. When Batman says he won't kill, Jason adjusts and goes, 'Let ME kill the Joker or kill me to stop me' instead. The test is all about Batman choosing him. The whole final confrontation is Jason's first death again. The parent, The Joker, and the explosives. It even ends with Jason unable to move as a bomb goes off right next to him again because the parent didn't choose Jason. And instead tried finding an option that'd benefit them and (consequencely) letting the Joker walk, again, lol, lmao <-in agony

Got a bit out of hand with the prompt XD I ended up doing a scene inspired by this fic! Based on that time Marcille Izutsumi and Chilchuck were sharing a bed in chapter 47. It felt very memorable so I tried to recreate it but I kind of went offscript because I was basing it on my recollection of the fic lmao

^Obsessed with this guy and how he lets Izutsumi use him like a hot water bottle bc it's comfier.

I think he'd hardly ever act this soft + tolerant of physical affection unless it's situations like this: When the others are too sleepy to remember it LOL

it is completely understandable to be uncomfortable with the sexual assault in dandadan. it's important to discuss how it's framed, whether it's handled poorly, or if it could be been portrayed better. but the number of people - even fans - stating that it is only fanservice, irrelevant, or could be removed is frankly bizarre to for SO many reasons, starting with the fact that this parallel exists.

the anime made it even more obvious by interpolating cuts from the first scene into the second one.

i thought this scene showed that momo gaining her powers by believing in her relationship with her grandmother gives her the strength to fight back against what is basically a horrific, much more aggressive and abstract (maybe even absurd?) representation of her shitty gross ex - who was demanding she 'put out' and pay for the love hotel in very first scene.

while the escalation from one scene to the next is surprising, it's not something that comes out of nowhere. this first scene is meant to be a set-up to what will happen later. it sets the tone, though significantly more lighthearted at this point. it tells you that sex, sexuality, etc. is something dandadan will touch on - though you don't know what the scope and depth will be until later in the chapter.

i cannot recommend this video enough, as it discusses some interesting interpretations of what the serpoians and turbo granny represent in their respective assault scenes, as well as how right now the treatment of both scenes is unfortunately uneven.

more notes about plot and thematic relevance below the cut. spoilers for anime-onlies (up to chapter 8, will probably be covered in episodes 4/5).

momo was assaulted, and almost cut up by the serpoians, much like the other victims turbo granny appeared around. this is an intentional parallel. turbo granny goes to momo because that is what she does. again, SUPER unclear how that factors into turbo granny's assault of ken, but if we keep the video's interpretation of cynicism in mind, it could be related to that; maybe turbo granny has a cynicism toward men - similar to momo in chapter/episode 1 - and this is why she chose to attack ken. unfortunately, it's still too early to really understand and explain a lot of her motivations.

again, completely understandable to not like how the sexual assault was handled or portrayed, and it's important to keep discussing it. but this is what dandadan does for many different types of trauma and difficult life experiences. this is a huge part of dandadan's identity. if you don't like it, that is fine, but calling the sexual assault 'just fan service' is blatantly untrue.
