after sixteen hours of press interviews and being constantly poked and prodded and pushed into the next car, to the next journalist, there's nothing more therapeutic than a sleepover at her sister's. when they're both safely tucked under natalie's blankets with her mountains of plushies forming a sort of makeshift tent pole for them to breathe, daisy feels like she's in her own little pocket of healing.

the world becomes so much smaller, so much more manageable when all she can see is nat and her plethora of animal crossing and pokemon plushies ( she swears they're multiplying whenever she turns around ). if she tries really, really hard, she can pretend this is all her life is -- something sweet and simple, where she and nat have always been together. her sister's the popular one, the youtuber, and daisy . . . well, she doesn't know what she'd do without singing, but she'd find a different kind of happiness elsewhere.

if she had always lived here with natalie and the davis's, maybe she wouldn't have felt that ache grow into a hole that needed some stupid fame and glory to fill it. maybe daisy would've found another vocation to earn a living, and music would've stayed sacred. and she and syd would still be playing in the garage ( and syd wouldn't have sought comfort in the arms of another guitarist).

of course, tomorrow the spell will break and she'll be forced to return to set and slap on a few hundred smiles for the next music video. but for now she's happy to laugh and tease beneath the blankets, arms wrapped snug around natalie's celeste plush.

nat's whole thing with chrissy makes daisy feel like she's experiencing part of the high school life she missed out on back in the day, too laser-focused on the band back then. it's just another thing amongst hundreds that she's grateful to her sister for. she shakes her head when she hears the nerves and doubt creep into nat's voice, quick to reassure her.

❝ chrissy probably just thought it was really cute, ❞ she shrugs against the pillows, patting natalie's hand with celeste's flappy plush wing. ❝ trust me, you could spill hot soup in her lap and she'd thank you, ❞ daisy jokes, trying to coax a laugh. having seen all chrissy's soggy, sad . . . "lying on the stage during rehearsal because she was just dumped by the barista" moments . . . it's very hard to see chrissy in the same shining light as natalie. but daisy respects nat's feelings, wanting nothing more than for her ot feel confident too. ❝ chrissy really likes you. ❞
