My Review of Shoukoushi Cedie

(a.k.a. Little Lord Fauntleroy; Our Boy Ceddie; etc.)

Let’s get back to watching some World Masterpiece Theater animes with another anime loosely based on another novel by Francis Hodgson-Burnett. Unlike my familiarity of her other works like The Secret Garden and A Little Princess, I never knew this story.

I’ve heard of the name many times (mostly used as an insult) and would see movie adaptations here and there, but would never sit down to watch any of them. There are movies to this story. Quite a bit, actually! There are two prominent versions out there that people would flock to. The first would be the 1936 adaptation with Freddie Bartholomew and Mickey Rooney. And the other would be the 1980 adaptation starring future dick-head Ricky Schroder.

Cedric Errol (Ceddie to those who know him well) is a happy-go-lucky child. He lives with his parents in Brooklyn, NY. He loves baseball. He’s a wide-eyed optimist. If any of his friends are in a jam, he will always help them out. Would anybody think this little boy could be an heir to an earl in England? Ceddie’s father James was trying to hide that previous life by moving far away from England. But misfortune struck with James’s brother suddenly passing away and then James winds up passing away with a heart attack. This leaves Ceddie without a father but also leaves him with a title across the pond.

Sometime after James’s death, Ceddie was visited by his grandfather’s lawyer, Mr. Havisham and the intentions are to take Ceddie away from Brooklyn and have him live with his grandfather in England. His grandfather is the Earl of Dorincourt and with all of his sons gone, Ceddie is to be the next heir to the earldom. Upon arrival, Ceddie was given literally everything a child could want and more. The only downside to this is that his dearest mother could not live with him. The reason is because Ceddie’s grandfather has a disdain for the American woman his son married.

Probably because she looks like his dead wife. Whatever that reason may be, they promised to keep it away from Ceddie to keep him from hating his grandfather. Once meeting his only grandson, The Earl bonded with Ceddie in a way he didn’t expect to. Will Ceddie soften the heart of this crotchety old earl?

BETWEEN THE SUB AND DUB: Once again, I’m reviewing an anime from the World Masterpiece Theater collection so that means there’s no licensing or an English dub. There’s word that this anime aired in England back in the 1990s and it was dubbed. But I have been unable to locate any footage or proof that it exists. As for the sub, I found this interesting tidbit. This was Ai Orikasa’s voice acting debut. I always like to hear voice actor’s first role and see how far they’ve come from there. It looked like Orikasa was on good terms as she went on to voice another major character in the World Masterpiece Theater collection. Now, I want to bring to your attention the availability of this anime on the internet. This was the one anime I found difficulty finding with semi-decent subs. So just be aware of this little hurdle you might come across if your wish is to view this story. With that said, here’s what you might recognize these folks from.

*Ceddie is played by Ai Orikasa (known for Ryoko on Tenchi Muyo, Ren on Fruits Basket 2019, Jakotsu on InuYasha, Shizuru on Yu Yu Hakusho, Tohma on Gravitation, and Romeo on Romeo’s Blue Skies)

*The Earl is played by Takeshi Watabe (known for Gamabunta on Naruto) [R.I.P.]

*Annie is played by Tomoko Munakata

RESPECTED CHARACTER: This honor goes to Annie. Ceddie’s mother gets my full respect. Annie has persevered through the hardest moments in her life. In the span of several months, Annie lost her husband to a heart condition, became the bread winner of her house, had to uproot her entire life to another country, and be separated from her one and only son because her father-in-law said so. Despite all of that, she still put on a brave face. While living in Dorincourt, she would help those around her, especially the sick and disabled. I’m happy that Annie was eventually able to see Ceddie every now and then throughout the series. I just wished The Earl would have come to his senses early on. Who taught Ceddie all of those manners you like him for? His mother Annie, that’s who!

PROTECT THAT SMILE: This is Cocky. I like Cocky. Protect her smile at all costs!

DISLIKED CHARACTER: Hmm…does this anime have a snot-nosed bitch for me to rag on or a bastard old man?

Oh my, it does! However, my hatred for Bridget was only for a few episodes. Her mother on the other hand is another story. Thankfully, we don’t see them that often and the whole thing with Bridget was resolved sooner than you’d think. As for the bastard old man, that would be The Earl. Like with Bridget, my hatred for him waned over time. Yes, he did piss me off when he got in a hissy-fit whenever Ceddie’s mother was brought up. I’ve dealt with that in my youth where certain family members trash-talked my mother. I hate them. But the Earl slowly became accepting of Annie and most of that thanks goes to Ceddie. He’s a saint. I think everyone can come together to hate one, single character. And that is…

Newick! Nobody likes him.

He’s a debt collector. He’s an asshole. He lies to cover his own ass and steals. That’s all there is to him. He’s terrible. Oh and he tried to hurt Cocky. Fuck this guy!

Oh, you thought I was going to say Minna, weren’t you? That’s the obvious choice. My hatred for Newick gradually built over a certain amount of time because he was on the series longer than that gold-digging ho.

SADDEST MOMENT: Death is a familiar topic brought up throughout nearly all of the stories featured in Japan’s World Masterpiece Theater. And the ones I saw in previous animes from this collection didn’t really strike a chord with me. Don’t get me wrong, they were tragic, but most of them were just followed by an intense streak of anger brought on by the circumstance. Most notably, Fantine’s death in Les Miserables and Alfredo’s parents assassination in Romeo’s Blue Skies got me angry. Watching Ceddie’s father die was just sad!

Watching James cry while saying his final words on this earth as Ceddie performs his favorite song is enough to blast you in the gut. And little Ceddie is just so innocent in this scene and thinks his father just fell asleep. Scenes like that just don’t get any easier to watch. That’s why I get choked up when Mufasa dies in The Lion King and Simba tries to wake him up.

ACCURATE OR NOT: Okay, a lot of these animes I’ve been watching have been pretty good with accuracy. Will this one do the same? Ehh…hard to tell. Filler episodes are everywhere here so anything is possible. This’ll be smaller than usual.

*Even though Ceddie’s father is hardly ever seen in any other adaptation, we do see him significantly in the first 5 episodes. In the anime, his name was James Errol. But in everything else he’s known as Captain Cedric. Usually, he’s dead before the story begins. I’m also pretty sure that Ceddie’s father never worked for the newspaper.

*Apparently, The Earl had three sons in total. In the anime, we only know of James (Ceddie’s father) and Bevis. Whatever the case, all three are dead now.

*Dearest Annie! Watching this anime with even the crappiest of subtitles, one thing that I know for sure is that Ceddie never once called his mother “Dearest” like in every other piece of media with this story. I’m actually relieved on that one. Next to men calling their wives “mother”, that is too cringy for my liking. I know Ceddie calls his mother “Dearest” because that’s what his father called her and so Ceddie took over calling her that. In the anime however, Ceddie calls her “mother”. It’s quite possible they gave her the name Annie in this adaptation after the song “Annie Laurie”, the song Ceddie constantly plays on his instrument.

*I really can’t find anything proving that Cocky was a real character in the novel or any other adaptation. And that sucks because I really liked her. Yeah, a lot of memorable characters in the anime were not really there in the actual story. And if they were, they probably didn’t have a name or went by something else. At least I know the dog actually existed.

ENDING: Ceddie might not be the rightful heir to become Earl. It’s not like Ceddie isn’t really The Earl’s grandson. They’re related, there’s no doubt about that. And The Earl loves Ceddie! I mean, he loves his grandson dearly. If Ceddie weren’t around, he’d still be in that mansion, stomping his cane around being a crusty old crone. The reason behind this new turn of events is that he might have a surprise grandson. Let me explain!

Ceddie’s father James had an older brother named Bevis. Bevis might have fucked around with some random lady and they had a son. I think the woman’s name was Minna or something. I don’t know, I’m just gonna call her Lyin’ ass ho. And you know the rules, first sons are the heirs and everyone else is the spare. Not my rule, this shit goes back to Henry VIII times. So, what now? Does Ceddie get cast aside for this illegitimate heir? Does that mean Ceddie can at least live with his mother now? Could this possibly mean that Ceddie and Annie are going to go back to Brooklyn? The Earl was not having this malarchy in his mansion. He threw out this lyin’ ass ho and her son.

The thought occurred with Annie and Ceddie about returning to the states. But all of the people they helped throughout this story pleaded with them not to go. During their time in England, Annie and Ceddie helped the people of the area known as Earl’s Court. Annie would look after the sick and disabled. And Ceddie persuaded his grandfather to rebuild the entire area when it was discovered that everyone there was practically living in squalor. Hell, Ceddie was able to soften his grandfather’s heart and The Earl ended up opening up a bit.

Now comes an ugly ultimatum. Bevis’s so-called ex-wife has been challenging to go to court on the matter of having her son become Little Lord Fauntleroy. But she’s willing to drop it if she lets her son move in and have Ceddie leave the mansion. Yeah, I hate this bitch. Come on anime, we’ve got one episode left. Is this bitch gonna get her comeuppance or what because tick-tock!? Ceddie decides to leave the mansion to prevent being a burden to his grandfather. He decides to stay with his mother and Cocky. Back in the states, Ceddie’s friends and acquaintances have been following this whole story. Mr. Hobbs the storekeeper has been getting frequent letters from Ceddie and the newspaper has been getting stories from across the pond about the development in the alleged new earl case.

Well, time for this shit to be blown up. Ceddie’s NY friend Dick recognized the woman claiming to be Bevis’s ex with his child. Dick and Mr. Hobbs make an unexpected trip to England to straighten out this ugly situation. The evil woman claiming she has the real Lord Fauntleroy is a lyin’ ass ho. Dick’s brother Ben is the real father to this poor kid. So, he’s not related to the lord or Ceddie. Lyin’ ass ho was caught in that web of lies she concocted in front of the lord, Ceddie, her son, the baby-daddy, the servants, all of that. Turns out Lyin’ ass ho was married to Dick’s brother and had a baby with him, but was tired of being poor. So, she ditches both her husband and son to go searching for a sugar daddy. That’s when she met and married Bevis (Ceddie’s uncle). But when their relationship lapsed, she came back to take the child she ditched and went away somewhere the father couldn’t find.

Yeah, this story would make anyone’s blood boil. The Earl was ready to lay down some much-welcomed punishment on this evil woman. But Ceddie pleaded with his grandfather to not be cruel and even went so far as to threaten renouncing his heirdom if he does something cruel to the lyin’ ass ho. That’s the one thing that always annoyed me about Ceddie. This woman did a lot of damage to the people around her. She should not be let off easy. Then again, the only time you’ll see Ceddie lose his temper is if anyone insults his mother. Anyways, The Earl decided to just let her go and she left her son with his father and left without a fuss. So, Ceddie is officially Little Lord Fauntleroy. And even better, his grandfather did something nice for Ceddie. He is finally allowing his mother Annie to live with her son in the mansion and offered a heartfelt apology for his stubbornness.

I guess the characters get a happy ending. Dick’s brother gets to live with his son on a farm somewhere in the states. Dick is working for Mr. Hobbs instead of shining shoes. Ceddie and his mother get to live with each other. And now it’s time for the family to make a trip to New York to visit James’s grave and pay their respects.

This was an okay story. Once again, I like this version than the movie versions I watched. I gotta say, Ceddie was one of the luckier of the children featured in Japan’s World Masterpiece Theater. I know he lost his father at a young age and was separated from his mother shortly after. But you’ve gotta admit he’s luckier compared to other characters like Cosette, Romeo, and Sara Crewe.

A few gripes…Besides the animation, that’s a given. I should save my breath when it comes to all of the early Nippon animations. One of my gripes has to do with the previews. The previews talk about the next episode and when the next episode comes, the stuff they talk about happens at the end. What a cock-tease! The other gripe is that the ending felt very rushed. All the stuff with who was the rightful Little Lord Fauntleroy comes at the very last second. In a 43-episode long series, they save something big like this to the last 3 episodes. And for something as serious as proving paternity, the matter was taken care of rather quickly in the final episode.

Recommendation wise…eh, it’s a toss up for me. I was just okay with it. It wasn’t a favorite of mine and would recommend other animes that came from the same company. I honestly thought it was too cute and wholesome for my liking. It’s weird for me to say that when you see some of my taste in anime, but that’s how I felt. But if you’re curious and have read the book or watched some of the older movies to Little Lord Fauntleroy, give it a watch. But only if you’re able to find the entire series. Like I said before, this series was difficult to find with semi-decent subtitles.

Okay, I’m going to replace Little Lord Fauntleroy with yet another World Masterpiece Theater anime. And funny enough, this anime was the one that replaced Little Lord Fauntleroy after original its run.

Peter Pan!

Oh God. The Little Lord Fauntleroy anime looks like a Makoto Shinkai masterpiece compared to what they did to Peter Pan.

What are some of your favorite video recordings of Phantom? (Sorry if it's been asked a million times, I'm just too lazy to look it up lol)

I’ve made a list of recommendations, which I thought about linking, but those were more about exposing fans to different versions and was also based on what had already been gifted. But my actual favorite videos are ones that I’ve thought about, opened up time and again just for my enjoyment, or otherwise made an impression on my opinions about the show.

1988, Tokyo, Ichimura/Nomura/Yamaguchi - The most old-school of the productions, retaining many of the quirks that were removed or changed in just about all the other productions (e.g. Christine’s dancing, the last verse in ‘Wishing’), proshot... and also features Ichimura, who is basically a Japanese clone of Michael Crawford (and voice of Mewtwo!), plus a sweet Christine and Raoul in Ryoko Nomura and Yuichiro Yamaguchi.

1995, London, Freeman/Washington/Bowman - Ethan Freeman provides the least campy, most realistic, and most Leroux-accurate interpretation I’ve seen yet. Every time I want to remind myself as to just how creepy the Phantom can get, I open up this video.

2000, Mexico City, Vasconcelos/Terrazas/Joel - Oh gosh, Saulo Vasconcelos’s hands! If I want to see just what happens if you give a talented performer huge creative freedom in the role, I watch this. Also, just a super fun production overall that seems to have really let their performers experiment.

April 25, 2000, Hamburg, Bourg/Kelly/Gonyea - The video with Olivia Safe is more common, but my favorite of the Christines who have performed opposite Ian Jon Bourg, another favorite Phantom who is just so consistently good, is Alison Kelly, who plays her Christine quite intelligent and rational.

November 19, 2003, US Tour, Little/Vroman/Gleason - When I want to remember how freaky Brad Little can get (”you try my patience”) but also how much chemistry he can have with a Christine, I watch this video.

March 2, 2005, Broadway, Panaro/Hanson/Cudia - Just quoting myself from another post: “This is a video to watch if you want to see a great trio of actors whose interpretations fit together almost perfectly - Panaro providing the slightly nutty Phantom, Hanson a traumatized, child-like Christine, and Cudia her protective guardian.” One of the first videos I really watched and reviewed, and still one I have very fond memories of.

January 2006, London, Carpenter/Barrell/Shannon - Every time I want to cry about the Phantom, or about Earl Carpenter’s Phantom in particular, I watch this video. I almost always find some new detail I missed on a previous viewing.

April 6, 2006, US Tour, Mauer/Southard/Weitzer - As mentioned here, this was one of the first videos I ever watched, and the cast solidified a lot of opinions I still have now regarding the Phantom, Christine, and Raoul. But also it’s such a well-captured video, catching so many details the cast threw in.

July 1, 2006, US Tour, Cudia/Wills/Monley - A video I watch for the astounding pairing of John Cudia and Jennifer Hope Wills, who I think had only worked together a few weeks when this was filmed? It sure doesn’t show, because their interpretations mesh so well. Another video that really made me appreciate the characters, especially Christine, because of all the work the actors put into their roles.

August 18, 2010, London, Shannon/Beck/Bailey - Beautiful video, beautiful production, and features one of my favorite Christines. Like the Carpenter video, I regularly open this up just to bask in Gina Beck’s acting.

March 9, 2013, Broadway, Stolle/Hill/Mills - Completely changed my opinion on Jeremy Stolle’s Phantom, and showed me how an actor can use restraint and subtle changes in his voice to do wonders with a character, and made me love Samantha Hill’s Christine and Greg Mills’s Raoul. But also, very fond memories of watching this video being streamed for the first time and observing the absolute thirst in the viewership.

April 11, 2014, Hamburg, Arnsperger/Brons/Wuchinger - A funky cast and one I kept thinking about long after the video was over, particularly Lauri Brons’s quirky, crazy-eyed, willful Christine. But also a very well-filmed video that really showed off the consistently good Hamburg revival production.

March 7, 2015, Moscow, Ermak/Kotova/Zaycev - To quote myself again (because I’m getting a little tired): “This video is not just one of the best of the production itself, it’s probably one of the best Phantom bootlegs period - great filming with tons of closeups, almost no obstruction, basically the full show, and a terrific cast. It used to be really rare but it’s getting pretty common now.” Also, featuring Tamara Kotova, a stunningly perfect Christine.

March 2019, London, Thaxton/Mathieson/Taylor - And another quote: “Probably the best video to come out of London in almost a decade, so it gives a great look at the London production as it is now. It also has a fantastic cast: David Thaxton is a very solid Phantom while Kelly Mathieson’s Christine is an absolute standout.” Beautiful details all around in this video.

March 2019, Copenhagen, Kofod/Glosted/Lund - Pretty much the perfect bootleg, the perfect production, and the perfect cast. Everyone was pouring their all into their roles, the energy is intense, the performances are fantastic. Watching this may have singlehandedly ruined my first live viewing of the show, because I kept comparing it back to this video. (But whatever, it was the restaged tour.) One of the few, or only, videos on this list that I don’t watch too often, just to preserve the magic.

I saw the ask thing, so I decided to take a crack at it! Uhh, how about question 4 from the 40 question ask thing?

So share one of the fanfic ideas I’m nurturing, huh? Well, since you’ve been a great supporter of the Green Tea Family, I’ll share TWO ideas!

1. A Food Wars Medieval AU in which Totsuki Academy is a kingdom where Erina Nakiri is a princess and Yukihira Soma is a Robin Hood-like bandit who robs from the rich and gives to the poor. Some of the characters from the show will be featured, including:

Alice Nakiri-Lady Alice

Ryo Kurokiba-Sir Ryo, knight to Lady Alice

Hisako Arato-Erina’s personal aide and best friend

Akira Hayama-Sir Akira, knight to King Senzaemon

Polar Star Residents-the kitchen staff

Takumi Aldini-personal adviser to King Senzaemon

Senzaemon Nakiri-king of Totsuki, Erina’s grandfather

Azami Nakiri-Earl Nakiri, Erina’s father

Central-Azami’s personal bodyguards and warriors

The Rebels (minus those living in the castle, as well as Alice, Ryo, and Erina) and Ikumi Mito-Soma’s gang of bandits

The pairings would be Soma x Erina, Megumi x Takumi, Alice x Ryo, and Akira x Ryoko (cause I love her and want her to be with someone).

2. A retelling of Bendy and the Ink Machine set in an AU in which Allison Pendle and Thomas Connor never married, Allison was Joey Drew’s secretary before becoming Alice Angel’s second voice actress, and she has a bit of a crush on Henry Stein. A few things would change from the original story, including:

Sammy Lawrence and Henry Stein are best friends from the time they were boys

Henry is oblivious to Allison’s motives and hints that she likes him, but turns into a nervous wreck when Susie Campbell talks to him

Speaking of Susie, whenever she and Allison look at each other, the room temperature goes down thirty degrees.

The prologue would include Henry helping out throughout the studio with various characters, including getting a projector working with Norman Polk, fixing some pipes with Wally Franks, helping Sammy and Jack Fain with some lyrics for an episode, etc.

Prior to Henry receiving the letter to come to Joey Drew studios, it’s revealed that he and Linda got a divorce after twenty years together, but it was a mutual divorce where they still care for each other. They also had a daughter named Sarah.

The pairings would be Henry x Allison and later on Susie x Sammy.

Vanitas No Carte VA prospects

Vanitas

Akeno Watanabe

(Yes, I would very much like a female voice for Vanitas and I think Akeno would fit since she voices some male characters like Rito Yuuki from To-Love-Ru and LEO from Pandora Hearts! I think her voice is deep and sounds cool for a male character. She can also portray Vanitas’ playful character.)

Ayumu Murase

A male seiyuu this time. Voices Allen Walker from the recent D. Gray Man anime. His voice is not so deep and manly which I think would fit Vanitas’ sly character.

Yuki Kaida

Got the inspiration from Kurapika of HxH. She is also known for voicing cool male characters. And her multilingual tongue (French and Chinese) would really help in pronouncing French words.

Koki Uchiyama

One of my favorite VAs! Roxas’ va from Kindom Hearts, also Yoshino from Zetsuen no Tempest and currently Shin from Evil or Live. I just love how he can portray evil and clever characters that looks so innocent. His voice is also very cool and sexy. I would never ever complain if he becomes Vanitas.

Noe

Nobunaga Shimazaki

Haru from Free is the perfect match for Noe’s character. His voice can certainly portray the naive-type/ clueless type and he also has the same poker face type of voice.

Kensho Ono

The poker sound [face] of Kuroko from Kuroko no Basket would certainly fits Noe’s character. Although he doesn’t sound as naive as Noe, I still think he would be a great match for his character.

Jeanne

Maaya Sakamoto

I would very much love Maaya Sakamoto to voice Jeanne! I don’t think anyone will do a great job than her. She can be fierce and cute at the same time. Voices Ciel Phantomhive from Kuroshitsuji and Kisshot from Monogatari series.

Yukana

My favorite VA! I chose her because of Tear Grants from Tales of the Abyss. She can also be fierce and cute like Maaya.

Kana Hanazawa

Kana isn’t really my favorite va because she became overrated in the past years. Nevertheless she has an iconic and cute voice so I wouldn’t be surprised if she got the role.

Yui Horie

One of my favorites as well. I can never get tired of hearing her voice. And Idk, I think every role given to her is just perfect for her voice so I wouldn’t complain if she became Jeanne. Cute, strong and tsundere perfect!

Dominique

Shizuka Ito

Tbh, I don’t think anyone can do better than Shizuka Ito. She’s very sassy and cool. She portrayed Rindo Kobayashi from Shokugeki No Soma so smoothly so I think she can do Domi’s seductive voice.

Yu Kobayashi

Yu comes out strong and can certainly portray girls that attracts girls especially her role as Mariya in Mariaholic.

Risa Taneda

Not exactly my favorite as well. I didn’t like her voice as Erina. I prefer the current one. But like Kana, I wouldn’t be surprise if she got casted.

Miyuki Sawashiro

Yes! One of my strong candidates! Miyuki’s voice is very smooth and calming. She fits the mature type so she’ll do well voicing Domi. Voices Celty from Durarara, Milla Maxwell from Tales of Xillia

Yoko Hikasa

When I hear Boar’s voice in Juni Taisen, she certainly did a great job in voicing a mature woman so I think she’s a good candidate as well. I’m just not sure about Domi’s cute attitude.

Mitsuki Saiga

I love Mitsuki Saiga voicing a male character! But that doesn’t mean she can’t fit a female role. Although her voice is too deep for her, I’m still curious on how she would voice Domi. Also voices Okita Souji from Peacemake Kurogane, Teito Klein from 07 ghost.

Luca

Ryoko Shiraishi

Ryoko can portray kid’s role such as the noble kid MoriMori in Gintama. She can produce a really cute voice as a child. Also voices.

Reiko Takagi

She voices the gentle Tadase from Shugo Chara and that’s where I got the idea. Since Luca can be naive and impulsive, both charactes fit together. I think she’ll do great voicing Luca

Megumi Han

Gon’s voice from the recent HxH. I love how she portrayed Gon’s naivety which will do great in Luca’s character especially on the part where Luca was very grateful to Noe.

Houko Kuwashima

Known for voicing females like Yohime from Nurarihyon no Mago and Chizuru from Hakuoki. I loved her kid voice in Takasugi Shinsuke of Gintama that’s why I also picked her for Luca.

Yumiko Kobayashi

First heard her from Tetsunosuke Ichimura of Peacemaker Kurogane. Her voice usually portrays stubborn and noisy characters but I think she’ll also do great with someone noble like Luca.

Roland

Mamoru Miyano

Who else could do better than Mamoru?! He can totally voice Roland as the jolly and God-loving chausseur who can switch to a serious person in a split second.

Olivier

Kisho Taniyama

With Mamoru Miyano as Roland, this is Chuuya and Dazai all over again! Well, I just like how Kisho can portray nagging characters so he’s very perfect for Olivier’s character.

Daisuke Ono

Iconic voice! He also voiced Jack from Pandora Hearts and Sebastian from Kuroshitsuji. Daisuke Ono also has a switch from a nagging character to a perfectly serious one.

Kosuke Toriumi

Voices Mikazuki Munechika from Touken Ranbu. He can also do great as a mature persona like Olivier.

Ruthven

Sho Hayami

Sosuke Aizen of Bleach, yes, I can’t hear anyone but him in Ruthven’s voice. He’s sly and mysterious, very perfect for Ruthven.

Joji Nakata

Aside from sho, Joji Nakata can also be the mysterious evil type. He voiced Kotomine Kirei of Fate Stay Night.

Domi’s grandfather

Takehito Koyasu

Another mysterious character! No one else but Takehito Koyasu can do better! He’s perfect for the playful, ruthless and mysterious shapeless one.

Veronica

Aya Hisakawa

Aya Natsume from Tenjo Tenge. She has a very mature voice and her body type also fits Aya’s so I can’t imagine a better candidate than her.

Yuko Kaida

Tsukuyo of Gintama’s voice. Although a mature type of voice, I think it’s very hard to imagine her as ruthless like Veronica but I do wonder what will it be like if she voiced her.

Dr. Moreau

Yutaka Aoyama

The Millenium Earl from the recent D. Gray Man series. Yes, they’re both psychotic and old (in some way) so he’s very perfect to voice the mad doctor.

Ironically, I also picked Miyuki for Domi so wouldn’t it portray their relation more if she was to voice Louis? xD Nevertheless, yes, Miyuki is not new to young male characters and listening to Kira from Btooom! She can be very well voice Louis with maturity and a lot of painful emotions.

Mariya Ise

Voiced Killua from the recent HxH. She can really voice young but mature male characters. Her voice can also be serious and calculating like Louis’ personality.

Dante

Takuya Eguchi

The voice of Dragon from Juuni Taisen and Takeo from Ore Monogatari. The cheeky and chubby-kind of voice is perfect for Dante. As Vanitas’ informant, he can be very arrogant sometimes and Takuya Eguchi can do a good job voicing that.

Ayane Sakura

Since Riche is very naive like the 2-face Niwatori from Juuni Taisen, she’s very perfect for her.

Masakazu Morita

Ever since I heard him voice Yukari from K Project, I never expected him to be so perfect in a gay~ish role! So who else fits Johann better than him?

Mamiko Noto

The innocent Amelia Ruth is the match for Mamiko Noto’s cute voice.

Sora Amamiya

Voiced Touka Kirishima and the weak-looking Honoka Mitsui of Mahouka koukou no rettosei. She can voice a fierce but also innocent character.

Ai Kayano

Better known for her role as Inori in Guilty Crown and Shiro from No Game No Life. Like the other candidates, she also fits the innocent role of AmeliA Ruth

I’m truly expecting a VnC Anime in the future, when it gets enough chapters like PH and hopefully the voice casts won’t disappoint us.
