High road? What fucking high road.
When they go low, we use every bloody weapon in our arsenal
Lucian K. Truscott IV
Dec 03, 2024
President Biden has pardoned his son Hunter, explaining in a letter that “raw politics” had influenced his son’s prosecution and led to a “miscarriage of justice.”
The raw politics of Washington D.C. as we head into another four years of rule by Donald Trump involves pre-planned miscarriage of justice. The Project 2025 plan that Trump claimed he had nothing to do with – before appointing four of its authors to his Cabinet – has an entire section devoted to exacting revenge on political opponents of Trump.
It is a cliché to say that the gloves are off, but that is the situation Donald Trump has purposefully created. He has threatened to investigate and prosecute anyone who was ever involved in investigating and prosecuting him. That would include Robert Mueller and his entire team of investigators and federal prosecutors. Of course, special counsel Jack Smith and his entire office, which includes FBI investigators and federal prosecutors, some of whom came out of retirement to work on the Trump investigation, are on Trump’s list for retribution. Kash Patel, Trump’s prospective FBI Director, has given several interviews about his plans to investigate anyone who has ever so much as picked up a pencil to bother his master.
Joe Biden has his work cut out for him. He should empower an entire staff in the White House to begin working on blanket pardons for all the people mentioned above, plus members of the House of Representatives and the Senate who were involved in the two Trump impeachments and the House January 6 Committee.
The Biden pardon team should also take a serious look at the many reporters, columnists, and television news hosts who have stood up to Trump over the last eight years. That is another long list of people that Donald Trump has threatened to prosecute for simply doing their jobs as reporters, commentators, and cable news hosts.
That old aphorism “when they go low, we go high” was bullshit when it entered the political lexicon, and it’s a guarantee of a prison sentence at this point. There is no high road in the age of Donald Trump and his MAGA team of toadies and lackeys who are sworn to carry out the campaign of retribution Trump demands.
The Democratic Party isn’t just a political party anymore. It is an association of Americans who are under attack merely for their political beliefs. Loyalty to the Constitution and swearing to uphold its rights and guarantees of freedom has been turned into a crime by Donald Trump. People like Elon Musk and Leonard Leo are probably adding names to the list of enemies they would like to see behind bars for committing various “crimes” that aren’t crimes at all.
Nobody is safe. Trump has promised to build internment camps for undocumented immigrants he has declared war against. You won’t have to lack an American passport or work permit to be ushered into the walls of those camps once they’re built.
Trump has gone to war against the America we have known. We don’t need to ask ourselves what this country has done to deserve the war Trump has planned against us. Biden needs to deploy his pardon power as a weapon in that war, and the Democratic Party needs to start recruiting not only followers but fighters. This is going to be an ugly four years, and it is way past time to prepare ourselves.

Funny stories from set
Here are some funny stories from the making of red dead that I have heard in interviews, with links to the videos if I have been able to find them again, just click the text with the line under.
(25.40) Between the takes of Red Dead Redemption 2, Rob (John) worked construction and one day they were using a Skidloader and he got driven over. He had to reach up and bang on the side of the thing to alert the driver. He ended up with a broken foot and couldn't work for eight months. One of the scenes that someone else ended up doing for him was Rip Van Winkle.
(31.22) The interaction where Charles throws Micah was orignally Charles throwing Bill and was the first thing that Noshir (Charles) filmed on set. With a mo-cap suit follows this big thing in front of the face that helps capture facial expressions (I think), and Noshir was like "I am going to wreck some shit" after being told that he wasn't allowed to turn his head to avoid his and Steve's (Bill) equipment crashing together and after being told over and over, they did it and the equipment indeed broke. So while standing in a T-pose after the set was done, he was just like "... I am so fired."
(6.45) Mick (Sean) and Roger (Arthur) actually knew one another before working on red dead together. Roger worked at a pub not far from the resturant that Mick worked at where they put plays on on the second floor and Roger would come and do readings. Roger auditioned for a part in a play around the beginning of rdr2, and he got the part however he had to cancel due to another bigger job he had gotten. And then Mick got the role of Sean and he figured it all out.
(36.40) Gabriel (Javier) started a rumor that the director was his dad, his stepdad. A lot of the new people on set would come up and be like "I feel like he doesn't like me" and Gabriel would be like "Oh don't worry that is just my dad, he likes you don't worry."
(41.30) Steve (Bill) and Ben (Dutch) would often stay in the same hotel when they were filming and they had this ritual called "Whiskey Hottop" where they would get in a hottop, pour themselves some whiskey and sit together. Sometimes Rob and Noshir would join as well.
(5.17) Rob and Ben knew one another as well from before the first red dead, as they both worked security at a bar called sky bar in Hollywood.

America is getting weirdness fatigue. It's time to cancel The Trump Show and move on.
Some people who started middle school or high school around 2015 may actually think that Trumpism is normal in American politics. In fact, you'd have to go way back to the McCarthy era (late 1940s to mid 1950s) to find anything close to it.
Trump is to American Politics what COVID-19 is to public health.
Trump is not normal and we need to reinforce institutions of democracy to hinder people like him in the future.
The first thing we can all do is vote – and take more interest in what goes on at the state and local levels which are often neglected by liberals and moderates.

HOW DOBBS IS SHAPING THE 2024 ELECTION
I like going back a few months to see how the experts were looking to where we are now.
Some months back, I watched MSNBC's Steve Kornacke with his "board" comparing winning margins in certain districts, mostly state legislative and congressional, over time. What he was reporting was that Democrats were improving their performance across the board by 5-10 percent, whether they won or lost. You'll note that here as well. This article is a few months old.
But a president's party usually takes a hit in his first midterm. And Biden's approval rating has been underwater for a long while. What gives? Has there been some overlooked event that made Wisconsin's Supreme Court race a blowout for the Democrats. Wisconsin is supposed to be 50/50. What about that Supreme Court race in Pennsylvania 10 days ago? Democrat won handily. BOTH these newly elected justices said they were pro-choice. Is THAT what gives?
KY Gov. Andy Beshear won against an unpopular incumbent governor in 2019 by 0.4%. After Dobbs, he won against Mitch McConnel's choice by 5.0%., running explicitly on choice. Is that the 5% Kornacke surmised about? Who can say for sure?
What this article tells us is that, looking ahead to future elections, we can either listen to the noise (TV, polls, social media) or watch the signals (election results). Sometimes there are unclear signals. But this is not "sometimes". As noted by one Democratic strategist in this article, "the rules have been rewritten, we don't know what they are."
"We're using old benchmarks to try to forecast going forward. And I think what we need to look at is less of the noise and more of signal," he said. "Right now, the noise is [what] you see on cable news, and it's people tweeting all day. The signal, what we should be looking for, are election results. That's what ultimately is telling the story."
Florida's Trumplicans are doing their best to keep any abortion referendum off the ballot. Despite their triumphalism in the wake of DeSantis's big win last year, they know that his 6-week ban (signed without the usual fanfare) has 4 million women mighty anxious. My sense, based on what we've seen since Dobbs, is that whether the referendum is on the ballot or not, Biden should pick up votes in Florida. A switch of 1.7% from 2020 wins Florida for him. If the referendum DOES get on the ballot, we'll know exactly what impact abortion feelings played by comparing its yes votes to Biden votes. Even if the measure does not meet a 60% threshold, and it gets, let's say, 55%, I can't see those voters negating that vote by selecting Trump who himself bragged about ending Roe.
And something similar is happening in Arizona. And, in Nevada's effort to enshrine their right with a constitutional amendment. Just compare the Biden vote to the abortion referendum votes IF they get on the ballot. The major obstacle, it appears, will be whether the state courts put the kibosh on these efforts. Even if they do, Biden is likely to be their proxy vote. Still, especially in Florida, abortion advocates are hard at work, and if they get their chance to vote on the issue, the 60% threshold is likely to be less of an obstacle and more of a challenge to get women and their supporters out to vote. That's good news for Team Blue.

Some cool art I saw today, made by Takashi Kojima. He's apparently worked on a lot of the high points of Wano, and has a role in G5 too. The art looks very interesting and pretty!
