i think the diamond dogs should play improv games just bc it would amuse me, an ex theater kid, specifically
#ted and beard ofc are reading each others minds#trent is shockingly good at it but only when he forgets to be self conscious#also see: he does both best and worst with ted (best when he's not being self conscious#worst when somehow the prompt gets too touchy or 'romantic' bc Crush Crush Crush Brain Panic)#(please the image of ted in character hugging him or something and trent just. red. brain crashed. no longer improving just frozen. barely#manages to recover and even then it was not subtle. unclear if ted is a) genuinely oblivious b) teasing him and thinks trent knows that#c) something else(??) )#roy is too stiff most of the time but if he gets really into it he gets REALLY into it.#best way to get this result is to involve phoebe or another child#higgins did community theater at some point and is the one teaching them all the games. beard also seems to have done intense research#but higgins is the one with EXPERIENCE#not that i think beard and ted couldn't have done an improv duo in college or something but in this scenario they did not#nate surprisingly is pretty good at it once he gets into it like it takes him a second but#then he's like. really getting into it and he's very quick on his feet#new way to go mad with power (affectionate): the rush you get when you make the perfect snap back comedic line/acting choice#also while trent is so good paired with so many of them i think he and nate would be a hilarious duo. they're SO funny.#they complement each other well and are both quick & clever#esp if it's about a mutual interest (although one of them taking the lead on something else like nate and music while the other plays off t#em is also good) but like#please i just had the iamge of them basically doing a bit where they're like. those mean old gay muppets in the theater?#like trent and nate improv duoing as some bitchy reviewers just going back and forth and it's so FAST and SO funny#beard records it and posts it somewhere and it goes viral.#god don't even get me started on the idea of some sort of official richmond social media/the gang posting random clips on social media#bc the ideas i have are so funny.#also largely trent centric but what do you want from me okay i'm just a little slut.

………. I'm glad you're aware of that, sir, but then why not give her any… I get that it's appropriate to the time period, but man, the amount of "oh, this kid wasn't beaten/spanked enough, that's why they're a brat" with kids who are traumatized/lost parents/are not getting their emotional needs met is wild... at least it's Maple Town, so it ends neatly and happily with a life lesson learned (including for the parents, because man, his favouritism of his son over his daughter is harsh!)

It's sad Judy has to prove herself worthy of her father's praise, but I'm glad that even before that, Patty calls him out and explains that Judy's antics (wearing the dress, bringing his favourite (sugary, messy...) snack into his work area... were all because she just wanted him to notice her. ;_;

Mulligan (2023-)
In today’s review I think we could all do with a do-over. As I attempt a #positive review of the 2023 animated comedy, Mulligan #NatFaxon #ChrissyTeigen #TinaFey #SamRichardson #DanaCarvey #PhilLaMarr #DanielRadcliffe #KevinMichaelRichardson #AyoEdebiri #RonnyChieng #ToksOlagundoye #WeirdAlYankovic #Questlove #AndySamberg #TedDanson #MariaThayer #RachelDratch #WillArnett #KyleSelig #JeffRichmond
Our society isn’t perfect, sure, but it might be the best we’ve got, but the path to this imperfect society has been long and hard-fought, and so will its future. That still doesn’t stop us from dreaming about starting again, writing the wrong and building a society that works, regardless of the cost or talent. In 2023, one cartoon would ask what would happen if the world had to do a…

Mean Girls (dirs. Samantha Jayne & Arturo Perez Jr.).
[The film] remains topical and referential by updating its coming-of-age themes for contemporary audiences. Its surreal musical sequence only further heightens the film's playful cattiness. It really zips through its story with an economical breadth. There are also just enough new elements and material to make this musical version feel fresh while still including all the familiar hallmarks of the original, including trying to make "fetch" happen twenty years later.

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard Unleash Three-Hour Show on Forest Hills Stadium on Friday Night
Tumblr media
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard – Forest Hills Stadium – August 16, 2024
Prior to the Paris Olympics, if someone had mentioned Australia and Raygun in the same sentence, you’d have been forgiven for assuming it the reference was to a song or album by the madly prolific (and sci-fi adjacent) Australian rock outfit King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. While that country’s reputation still recovers from the breakdancer who couldn’t dance, those assembled at Forest Hills Stadium on Friday turned their attention to the Australian rock band that can, and does, do it all. Their three-hour set — the first of two weekend appearances at the venue — kicked off with the live debut of the blues-heavy “Field of Vision,” off the recently released Flight b741, the six-piece’s 26th(!) LP.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The group’s music covers a wide array of genres, and their shaggy fans of all ages were as comfortable in tie-dyes as they were in the mosh pits erupting throughout the night, first for a speedy, ear-splitting rendition of “Gamma Knife.” Fitting for the season, those mosh pits were shaped like hurricanes, with bodies increasingly moving faster toward the center, except for the inevitable one or two standing still in the eye of the storm. Friday’s show gave the band as much room as they needed to display all facets of Gizzardom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Mr. Beat,” a sing-along, evolved into a jam that could be played out into infinity. With the sun still shining, the music was firmly on the boogie end of the spectrum with an equally playful rendition of the harmonica-heavy, aptly titled “Boogieman Sam.” But as day turned into night with a red sun setting into Manhattan’s hazy skies, the set turned toward the sextet’s heavier jams of the brown-acid variety.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First came the stellar four-song string of Gizzy mind-palace classics, “I’m in Your Mind,” “I’m Not in Your Mind,” “Cellophane” and “I'm in Your Mind Fuzz.” “God is real. God is a black hole,” announced someone from the stage as they kicked off the speed-metal “Self-Immolate,” complete with an extended, slow-burning drum solo from the inimitable Michael Cavanagh. The tune itself immolated amongst a barraging backdrop of animated, burning flames. Their songs off 2019’s Infest the Rats’ Nest remain the high-water mark for intensity and rocking the fuck out, and it was a bold and impressive feat to tear through that material at the midpoint of a three-hour set, leaving it with their human drummer still intact.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Gila Monster” was another fan favorite, off last year’s sprawlingly titled PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation. The fans enthusiastically intoning, “Gila, Gila, Gila” felt powerful enough to summon some kind of monster from somewhere in the city, assisted by vocal effects and chants that could’ve rattled out from the depths of a didgeridoo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The band welcomed a fan named Gabby to sing a vocal intro to “Nuclear Fusion” that Ambrose Kenny-Smith dubbed “fucking haunting.” Just as impressive as their never-ending discography, King Gizzard & the Wizard Lizard play wildly different sets each night, an audacious feat on its own but especially so when playing three-hour shows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Somewhere along the way, Friday’s set reached the all gas, no brakes mark and never let up, finishing with “Rattlesnake” and “K.G.L.W.” Welcome to the city that never sleeps to the world’s most prolific band. —Dan Rickershauser | @D4nRicks

I just finished this book and plan to restart it next week and do a much deeper dive. But all I can say is that you need to read this book. If you are at all concerned about our culture, homes, children, and men, read this book. Husbands and fathers read this book. Wives and mothers read this book. Everyone drop everything and read this book.
Young men are puttin' themselves six feet in the ground
'Cause all this damn country does is keep on kickin' them down
And it's not just young men, but young women also.

Mean Girls (12A): Noisy Remake Strikes of Trying Too Hard to be Fetch.
#OneMannsMovies #filmreview of "Mean Girls" (2024). #MeanGirls. Uneven and frenetic remake that doesn't bear comparison with the classic original. 3/5.
A One Mann’s Movies Film Review of “Mean Girls” (2024). Mark Water’s “Mean Girls” is 20 years old and was a classic of its time. That starred Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams in the roles of Cady Heron and Regina George. It became a firm teen favourite that a generation (my daughters included) fondly look back on. Despite all its frantic efforts to please, I really can’t see this Mean Girls…

✩🪡🐈Review:
This historical romance is absolute perfection!
Since his return from the war, the Duke of Ashbury is in need wife. Enter Emma Gladstone, a vicar’s daughter turned seamstress. When she conveniently appears in his library wearing his former fiancé’s wedding gown demanding payment, he decides she’ll do.
I loved watching Emma and Ash’s marriage of convenience slowly turn into something real! In the beginning, Ash was determined to keep them apart by creating rules so that they wouldn’t fall in love. I knew from their first interaction, however, that his plans would fall apart because their chemistry is undeniable! Emma is stubborn and sees right through the walls that Ash puts up. Their intelligent, humorous personalities spark a connection between them that only strengthens as they help each other embrace their insecurities.
I was pleasantly surprised by how comedic this book is! Emma and Ash’s banter was incredibly entertaining and made me laugh out loud at times. If you’re looking for a historical romance that is reminiscent of Beauty and the Beast with both steam and humor, then this is your book! I was hooked from the first page and am convinced it was written for me!

Ted Lasso season 3 review: A successful hat trick
#TedLasso season 3 review is up! It brings other characters to the forefront, showcasing the talent they have in this series as well as adding new characters that bring a fresh, yet hilarious, breath of life into the series.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 4.5 out of 5. AFC Richmond faces ridicule as media predictions peg them as last in the Premier League. With Nate (Nick Mohammed) hailed as the “wonder kid,” and working for Richmond nemesis Rupert (Anthony Head) at West Ham, the two teams could not be more different. Roy (Brett Goldstein) steps up as assistant coach alongside Beard (Brendan Hunt) while Ted (Jason Sudeikis)…

Reseña: Batman: Año Uno, Miller, Mazzucchelli, Lewis
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Me gustó mucho.
8/10.
Mis otras lecturas del 2023.
