MHA Chapter 423 Commentary
I want to start by saying that I love the series. I really do. That's exactly why this chapter is so damn heartbreaking. What drew me to this series were the themes of saving everyone, of atonement and understanding and compassion. All of that was abruptly thrown away this chapter. I can’t take anything else in the story to heart because it’s lost its heart.
Only some of this can be explained by the terrible pacing of the chapter, as the content should have been in 5+ chapters. What it comes down to is the way the deaths of Shigaraki and AFO were handled by both the protagonist and the author. It’s not that they died, as I expected both to and take no issue with that. It’s how their deaths were written. AFO’s in particular leads to the crux of the problem: when the main villain dies alone and unloved, it calls into question the story’s message and themes.
Under a cut because this is long, but I'll start with Shigaraki before moving onto AFO and the general themes.
I’ll discuss Shigaraki first, as this one is less of a problem (though still very much of one) for the story as a whole. Shigaraki's death scene was far too short and remarkably callous, and he will remain forever incomplete even if "revived". We have seen very little, if any, introspection on his part during this entire war. We didn't see him grapple with learning AFO controlled even his birth. We didn't see him interact with his grandmother. We never saw him learn anything from Deku. We never saw him confront AFO. We never saw him come to terms with anything. Right up until he died in 419, then formally died in 423, he held the same rage. Realizing "wow, I was an angry kid after all" only to follow it up with bragging about being destructive to the very end is not character development. His death was not heroic, as he was more or less “killed” by AFO earlier and he only rallied for one hit. He didn’t sacrifice himself in any way, and it’s hard to consider his final punchdown on AFO particularly heroic under the circumstances.
Deku's final conversation with him was fairly cold, especially considering how he's spoken of him up until now. Saying to the very end that he'll never forgive him and mysteriously failing to say he wanted to save him was very damaging to both characters. Not once does Deku mention his goal of trying to save him. It's as if his goals suddenly changed when they no longer became possible to attain, as if he'll magically be shielded from any failure (a common theme with all heroes except for Hawks and Ochako, though the latter may well be negated if Toga lives). Some recognition of the goals we've been told about for the last 300+ chapters would have been nice, even if Deku just made a casual apology for not being able to "save" him. He seems almost dismissive of Shigaraki in the end despite repeating tirelessly throughout the story that he will do everything in his power to save him.
I also see a lot of assumptions that Tenko will simply return. If this happens, which is always possible, it would be the most outrageous asspull in the series. His body is completely gone. Unless he regained his original quirk and it's "Resurrection", it's not going to be believable in any sense (and a suspension of disbelief is necessary for fiction; we all know it’s a superhero story, but that doesn’t mean the author can do absolutely anything and we have to accept it). That, too, would be absurd because if AFO had that quirk all along he would have used it here. An argument can be made that he used it 6 years ago, but this is also questionable because a] he only used it once, b] given the Oboro/Kurogiri situation, it seems that Garaki can actually raise the dead. I don't know what Tenko returning would even do. We saw his dying words, and they were unrepentant, and Deku's final interaction with him was cold and detached (unlike, for ex. Shoto and Toya which was only hostile on one side, and Ochako and Toga which was openly affectionate). Coming back isn't going to undo any of that.
AFO dying with no character resolution whatsoever was an even bigger issue in terms of the greater narrative. As with Shigaraki, his death is not the issue; it was clearly going to happen. It’s the how. He died begging for his brother to love and look at him. His brother died condemning him. AFO died as he was born - unloved - despite having a very "human" awakening only a few chapters prior. This was made clear but how he changed how he told his brother he loved him. He shifted from the more formal and very rarely used “aishiteru” to the very personal “daisuke” because, after chasing him for a century only to lose him, he finally understood that what he felt for his brother was love.
He was vulnerable in a way he never had been before, but Hrksh opted to throw him away instead of bringing closure to his character. Consider how his original body died in 410, screaming about how he feels hatred. This time he died begging for love. It was futile either way. Yoichi, the only person he ever loved (albeit in a demented way), rejected him. All the other vestiges manifested faces, but Yoichi denied his brother this last chance to see him. AFO's last panicked meltdown clearly indicates that he simply can not conceptualize love in a normal way, which makes him more pitiable and, ironically, human, than it does make him evil.
The argument can definitely be made that this was a "fitting" end for him, and on some level I can appreciate that, but whether it’s satisfying is irrelevant. This ending does not fit the story of MHA, which carries certain themes. All other significant villain characters were granted some level of compassion, an attempt to understand them, by both the author and the characters. AFO was granted none of this. The main villain in a series about helping and saving others lived and died unloved by all. He might have been "born evil" depending on how one interprets chapter 407, but hrksh made it clear that he never had a chance in life. His backstory is objectively the most tragic and miserable of all, and he was the one character denied any compassion in the end. If the worst of the worst dies alone and unloved, then how can we say the story is truly about saving others, even those who don’t conventionally “deserve” it?
Furthermore, Deku's offhand comment about him being a lonely man comes across more as an insult and a mockery than any attempt to understand him. He "gave" AFO the chance to speak to Yoichi one last time, but it was a farce to distract him so he'd be easier to kill. There was no compassion there, only calculated manipulation. Granted, it's possible this comes down to pacing and what should have been 1-2 chapters was crammed into 1 page, but with no actual exploration of AFO's character on Deku's part, we have to take it at face value. Realistically, Deku should have sought to understand AFO hundreds of chapters ago anyway, if he really cared about saving everyone. In retrospect, not even considering the possibility of trying to figure out the why and how of AFO is a major failure on the part of the heroes. This goes back to how the author has set AFO up to take the fall for everyone without considering how it will compromise the central theme of the story.
Even as recently as chapter 416, Hawks remembers how important it is that we see everyone as united and understand one another. Strangely, nobody bothered to try and understand the main villain.
Ultimately, if the narrative is pinning all anguish and suffering in the world onto a single character, the origins of that character must be understood by the heroes to ensure someone like him isn't created again. By only bothering to understand and save those AFO supposedly created (even though he only created Shiggy), the heroes are healing symptoms and not the disease. There is no internal consistency within the story. He died largely a mystery. We will never know his true goals, as the closest we got was Aoyama's description, which AFO even said was not quite accurate. We also never learned his true motivation, as his reaction to Yoichi dying again indicates it’s not that simple. Which again, means it will just happen again because no characters made any effort to understand. It's like hrksh went for generic, mindless evil but screwed up with his relationship with his brother, ultimately turning him human. His goals and motives can be guessed, but given that this is a shounen, in-depth analysis should not be required to understand the final villain's goal.
This is made even more infuriating when you consider that AFO’s worldview is based on comic books. Shouldn’t this be something hrksh would want to explore, given the entire series is based on comic books? Without ever telling us the truth about his motivation, we lose the chance for the meta-analysis we were promised, one which had notable fan appeal regardless of character interest. AFO's abrupt ending also means we will never get any further explanation of quirks, the singularity theory, or their origin. AFO as the originator held all the mysteries there. Sure, maybe we'll get a monologue from the doctor later, but that's unlikely. And sure, you can argue that those things "aren't important", but they are. Many dropped plot points genuinely don't matter anymore, but these do given their significance throughout the series. Essentially, all worldbuilding went out the window with AFO.
In the end, there is no sense of anything changing after this war. The chapter byline suggests that now with AFO dead, everything will be perfect, which is of course probably what we'll be told. The "cycle of suffering" has miraculously ended, because apparently all of it originated with AFO despite him having absolutely nothing to do with the creation of most villains.
The reality is that nothing in Deku's final battle addressed the failures of society and what can be done going forward to minimize people becoming villains. He completely ignored any attempt to understand the supposed root of all evil (AFO), suggesting he doesn’t actually care about fixing any deep-rooted societal issues and instead only cares about Shigaraki specifically. And even then, Deku did very little for him. When he entered the vestige world, he shielded Tenko from his father and tried to physically stop him from killing his family. That's it. Immediate, reactive, physical behavior. No reflection, no analysis, no acknowledgement of the deeper issues at hand (yes, it's a battle, but that never stopped hrksh from including that kind of thing before), no recognition of what Tenko went through in their final conversation. In this sense, Ochako and Endeavor have done a far better job at being heroes than Deku, which is a serious issue from a narrative perspective.
Rezzing Tenko might give us some flashbacks of neglected aspects of his character, granted with lost emotional momentum, but the bigger issue is how Deku handled his death. The same can be said for AFO, though unless Yoichi also returns, that's totally pointless. Giving Deku a second chance to redo everything with Shigaraki and/or AFO can't change the fact that the first time around, he failed to connect. He didn't know he'd get a second chance. Therefore we have to assume he was "doing his best" in 423, and that “best” was mediocre and contradictory to his character.
At the end of the day, we ended up with what should have been 5-8 chapters crammed into one, at the most critical moment of the series. Because of this, major plotlines and characters were thrown out the window and with them, the central themes of the entire series. I think there are ways it can be partially fixed to the point where the chapter is no longer a story-breaker, but given how this was handled, I don’t expect those paths to be taken. The only way to really salvage this is to have the chapter retracted, which of course won't happen.

Welp...it's time.
After working on this AU for 2 years, I'm happy to announce my upcoming Rewrite AU for My Hero Academia.
My Hero Academia: Rewritten Sparks
Mild Spoilers Ahead
*****
It follows the story of Izuku as he finds himself reliving his life all over again after dying at the hands of All for One. But he notices that things are different than before. From Bakugou being friendly with him to his homeroom teacher suddenly having an eccentric personality.
And it's all thanks to this mysterious entity that revived him. But that's not the only thing that's changed. Izuku suddenly has his own quirk. Sort of.
The mysterious entity knew that Izuku couldn’t face All for One again without an ace up his sleeve, so it decided to give him one.
In the form of a Zhao. A quirk that manifests in 5% of the Earth’s population and is based on the interests, dreams, aspirations, etc. of its user. The mysterious entity created Zhaos using the Illuminating Spark, an ancient relic known to shape worlds like Izuku’s in different ways.
Unfortunately for the entity, the Illuminating Spark seemed to have disappeared in Izuku’s new world, resulting in an unstable power balance.
With the help of a team of new yet familiar faces, Izuku must find the Illuminating Spark and stop All for One from finding it.
*****
And now ladies, gentlemen, everyone in between, and out of bounds, we have the first character bio sheet of one of the main characters.
Time to properly introduce the man who inspired it all. Give it up for...

Hey hope you've been having a good week, how would mirko and midnight adjust to living a more normal life with their s/o after they were forced to retire from hero work due to injuries they received. Thanks
(I revived Y/N for Midnights section)
-Nemuri Kayama (Midnight)-
“Get back here” A voice could be heard from inside the apartment as a heavily bandaged hero slowly ran after her cat as the elderly feline dodged her with agility she could only wait to regain.
“Nemuri….” a menacing voice spoke from the shadows as the ex-hero froze in fear “you’re supposed to be in bed” the same voice growled as it inched closer. “But y/nnn” she complained before wincing in pain “that’s what I thought” Y/n huffed before helping her back to her bed throwing a quick glare at Sushi.
Nemuri couldn’t help but sigh dramatically, “Y/n I’m almost fully healed why do I have to stay in bed” Y/n snorted “You got out of the hospital three days ago”
Retirement was meant to be relaxing, but poor Nemuri just couldn’t stay still, after so many years in the field the hospital had recommended she go to counseling and pick up a few hobbies while she adjusted to being out of work. She wasn’t wanting for money since she hardly had time to spend what she made as a hero, and her s/o continued working so she couldn’t even find an excuse to get a job. It was nice being able to go to the grocery store or out on dates with her s/o once the masses had adjusted to her retirement. She even got to spend more time with Sushi, a cat that she had adopted from Oboro back in her UA days. It wasn’t the worst thing ever compared to the injuries she sustained knowing she would be feeling the effects of them for the rest of her life.
-Rumi Usagiyama (Mirko)-
“So how’s retirement treating you?” The winged hero asked his friend as she sighed setting her game controller down “it’s sooo boring” she whined adjusting her body a little as the bandages began to pull in an awkward position. “At least it’s safe” the blonde smiled as she scowled at him “I don’t want safe I want to be out helping people” she didn’t think it was fair, she was young, only twenty-seven, and already retired because of her injuries. “Why don’t you pick up a hobby?” Y/N asked carrying a tray of snacks towards the two “Like what?” the rabbit-eared woman questioned as her s/o shrugged “anything really, just something you like to do to pass the time”.
Even though she questioned the fairness of her situation, she quickly adjusted to her new routine and even picked up a multitude of hobbies. She started streaming easy home workouts once she healed up and filmed gaming videos that Keigo and Y/N would occasionally guest star in. It gave her a way to continue interacting with fans as well as pass the time whilst her best friend and s/o went to work. She went to counseling for awhile while dealing with the psychological effects that came with being a hero but stopped going eventually as it got easier now only seeing her therapist once a month. She adopted a few rabbits to keep her company since it did get lonely in being alone in the house for hours at a time.

So, its been a while huh?
BNHA has come back into my brain full swing, and with that it brings new ideas and brainrot!
I'll be putting the idea under a Read More so I'm not clogging up anyones pages lol. Below, is a prompt/outline/drabble(?) of Aizawa Shouta if Buckshot Roulette existed in My Hero Academia.
Buckshot Roulette
Right out of graduation, Aizawa was basically homeless. Sure, hes a pro hero now, but the pay is low and its more convenient to just live out of his sleeping bag in alleys or under bridges. But even then, he needs money to buy food, replace his hero costume/scarf, and pay medical bills. Money he just doesn't have.
During a mission, he stumbles upon a really seedy club. Rumor has it that there is a game and a dealer, just barely on the right side of legal. A game that has a massive payout, but a massive risk, as the player's life is their wager. Underground this game is known as Buckshot Roulette, or Buckshot more simply.
At this point in his life, Aizawa has little to live for and even less to lose. This is still in the depths of his depressive spiral after Oboro's passing several years prior, and is quite possibly the lowest point he's been at to date. With his only support system -his friends Hizashi and Nemuri- firmly cut out of his life, Aizawa takes a gamble and decides to play.
The Dealer's quirk is simple. So long as they are in the confines of the same room, The Dealer can prevent someone from dying (including themself) via revival and rapid healing as long as they are attached to a blood transfusion system. If the person dies a certain amount of times in a set range of time, or a different specific criteria (such as a round of the game), a defibrillator is needed for revival.
Aizawa plays the game, and wins. At some point he reunites with his friends, and starts to get his life together. Of course, if money is needed, Aizawa is willing to secretly put his life on the line again and again to keep his friends happy and safe. After many rounds and years of getting lucky, he manages to pull himself away completely and swears himself away from the seedy club where it all started.
That is, until The Dealer tires of his absence and decides to take matters into their own hands.
Of course, it's the students who get caught in the crossfire. Each and every one of them was silently taken from their beds in the dorms, bound by quirk suppression cuffs and thick, heavy chains with padlocks to prevent any escape.
Aizawa is ordered to the club by a ransom note, and is offered a choice.
He can choose to play a game of Buckshot. If he wins, he and all the students go scott free with no debt to The Dealer. Of he loses, he dies and every student must play their own game of Buckshot for their lives. Or he can walk away, guaranteeing his own survival, forcing the students to fend for themselves and play their own games.
We all know what he decided to do. He's Eraserhead, the guy who has put himself in danger time and time again to save his kids. He picks up the rifle and begins.
As the game is played, Aizawa explains to his students generally how the game works, and which items do what. Being repeatedly shot in the head does not help with memory, so the students help him keep track of how many of each type of shell there is. Sometimes, as they get the hang of the rules, they'll even offer advice and calculations on the probability of certain outcomes.
After a long game of Buckshot Roulette, Aizawa Shouta walks away from the table victorious, with all of his kids (and a splitting headache) in tow. Metaphorically. In reality, they're essentially dragging him out the door because of all the blood loss and shots to the head affecting his balance and ability to walk and think properly once the adrenaline wears off.
~~~
If I were to write this for myself, I would write out the whole game in detail, prolly with the help of the actual game itself. Feel free to use with credit, I've had this idea for ages and would love to see it a reality.
As always, likes do near nothing on Tumblr so I would really appreciate it if you would reblog this post if you liked it!
Nobume & Matako as foils
This was going to be part of a longer analysis, but in the end I decided to make a short separate post for it that I could refer to later.
I'm going to list a few similarities Nobume and Matako have, and within these similarities we could compare the differences and their implications.
Both girls are orphaned at a young age and forced to become a killer.
Nobume was orphaned by Naraku (which serves the Bakufu) and then trained to become an assassin. Her own will was not accounted for in the process; she did not have a say.
Matako lost her parents because of the Bakufu (her father executed for fighting in the joui war, her mother persecuted to death by association) and she wanted to avenge them with the pistols her father left behind. Though she was similarly a victim, Matako actively chose the path of rebellion for herself.
Both met their father figure, who end up becoming their commander, in a moment of rebellion. (self-explanatory)
Isaburo and Takasugi also happen to be working towards the same objective (toppling the Bakufu, exposing the Tendoshu)
They are both adored by their respective father figures, and the attachment is strong.
Though both Isaburo and Takasugi appear to have trouble navigating their relationship with their daughter. (Isaburo's pretty obvious; I plan on elaborating on Takasugi's case later)
They are both similar in temperament with their respective father figures.
Isaburo and Nobume are stoic and detached; Takasugi and Matako are hot-tempered and reckless.
(Also, within the revived Kiheitai, Matako is the only member whose initial motive is the same as Takasugi's: revenge. This could imply great similarities in their characters.)
Now, onto the greatest difference between Nobume and Matako: their personalities.
Nobume spent her entire life following orders. First under Naraku, and then under Isaburo. Isaburo was the one who wanted to support Takasugi's cause, and Nobume felt she "had to go along". Isaburo is plotting rebellion under the guise of following orders; as the Mimawarigumi followed his orders, they all became his pawn.
Matako meanwhile, belongs in the Kiheitai, which is pretty much rebellion and resistence incarnated. (I'd like to remind people that, despite their great loyalty to Takasugi, every major member of the Kiheitai has acted independently of Takasugi's will at some point—even against it sometimes.) I also feel like pointing out how Matako's an independent thinker as she is the only one to question the use of the Benizakura sword as it's too dangerous, and the only one to question if the Kiheitai's alliance with Harusame is a good idea. She even correctly deduced that Takasugi was in danger in that moment, something not even Bansai caught on.
(See, this is why I dislike portrayals of Matako as a simple-minded fangirl who blindly follows Takasugi around. I also think she deserves more serious moments where she acts and gets recognized as the competent person she is.)
Nobume, due to her parallel with Oboro (which deserves its own post), very likely got the same detached, emotionless personality from being brought up in Naraku. An authoritarian organization with little warmth and affection to speak of.
Matako, meanwhile, expresses a much wider range of emotions. She cries freely, plays the exasperated tsukkomi/straight man, and is a vibrant, lively girl. I can only imagine that if she's able to turn out like this, then the Kiheitai must be very different from Naraku in all asepcts.
For some reason, this post turns out to be longer than I intended. I'd like to share some speculations of how Matako was brought up by the Kiheitai, and how I think Takasugi feels about her. So, more posts incoming.
could you please explain the "give my regards to sensei in hell" quote re: shouyou? (sorry i read gintama a while ago so i forgot the details but i love your analyses)
sure! they're among my favourite scenes. i'm not sure exactly which part you want to know about but here's the gist:
in the courtesan of a nation arc, gintoki faces off against oboro, and right when he's about to impale him on a rooftop he says "say hello to sensei for me." then at the very end of the arc, takasugi who at this point has only appeared briefly a couple times as an unhinged antagonist sneaks into the jail where the shogun's uncle is held, and says the very same line right before killing him. we don't know a thing about his relationship to gintoki or zura at this point other than "they used to be comrades." the shogun's uncle is a primary antagonist of this arc, but he's Just Some Old Guy and relies on oboro to do the actual fighting. so it's a very sexy and unexpected moment where gintoki and takasugi say the same line regarding their sensei, who is also shrouded in mystery at this point.
what that sorachi quote is getting at is that it's strange that gintoki and takasugi would say this to scumbags that they loathe before killing them, i.e. implying that their beloved sensei is in hell. shouyou is very much the saintly dead mentor shounen trope, but he's not actually a saint, is what sorachi is saying. because he was human
what i was saying about the scene being funny is that oboro is, in fact, in daily contact with their sensei (utsuro). because he swore to make his own life suck forever. but no one knew this at the time, not even the viewers. so he couldn't be vindicated. he got impaled on that roof, revived, and then had to take his ass home to sensei. but i'm sure he did not actually pass on gintoki's hello. so he had to hold that in too. can you imagine how full his constipated insides are
con't Octo2 observations, endgame spoilers, etc.
did not see a wild Ori in Hikari's Stormhail chapter, but it's still a solid chapter overall. Still not sure why Stormhail, located where it is, is Ku's "launching point" for domination of the eastern continent since it is really, really far inland and does not seem and ideal place for Ku to have an outpost in, but the politics of Ku and the rest of Solistia continue to baffle me
Agnea's Sai chapter (listen I've long since lost track of which chapter I'm on for anyone) places Cuani in Sai 20 years prior to the story, which is...uh the same time period that Ku took over Sai? I am assuming Cuani stopped by after the war? damn Sai is a mess of confusion when it comes to the timeline of events and worldbuilding for Ku and Timberain. We know Oboro/Kazan was born in U (which Sai was a part of), so if he's in his 30s then he was a teen when U was razed, and Ori was younger than him (so she's probably in her mid 20s?), and I have no idea what this means about Dolcinaea (iirc she states that she was abandoned by her parents, so she's probably basically a war orphan as well), but what I don't get is why Sai, despite clearly being part of Ku, has people who were trying to work w/ Timberain (leading to the five-year long war that Castti and co. helped out in), like is there some sort of labor agreement in place? ugh, Sai is a weird town...
Also finished Hikari's final chapter (rip, Ritsu managed to kick my ass several times, so far the only two deaths I had were wandering into a side dungeon way under-leveled, and the Grieving Golem bc I didn't optimize my subjobs beforehand; I actually had to level-grind a bit for Ritsu bc I tried dragging two characters who were like ten levels under the rec'd level into the battle, whoops).
ANYHOW I noticed Mugen chants the same thing child-Hikari chanted after being overtaken by the Shadow ("quench the flames, call out to the night" or something along those lines), which suggests that the shadow-stuff going on with the Ku bloodline seems to act sort of similar to like, what Lyblac was to Galdera? in that the Shadow of Ku isn't like, specifically Vide or even makes the descendants of Vide worthy candidates as vessels, but the Shadow does take hold of them in an attempt to bring about the right conditions for Vide's revival, which makes me wonder if D'arqest was actually playing the role to Vide that Lyblac played to Galdera, but bc Vide is a different entity than Galdera, Vide needs a legit vessel which is how the entire "Claude was bio-engineered to be Vide's perfect vessel" came about, even though as we know anyone can be Vide's vessel (re: Oboro). Because Hikari and the Ku bloodline are direct descendants of D'arqest and not of Claude, this would also explain the differences between Hikari's struggles with the Shadow, and Throne just chilling with her special night powers (since she would be a descendant of Vide's vessel and heir to the powers of the vessel rather than to the shadow blood of D'arqest...maybe?). To be fair I am kinda tired, and my brain's a bit fizzled from irl stuff stressing me out, so I'm probably grasping at straws here, but, hm, lots to think about here.
ALSO, also Mugen does say that the "light of [Kura's] bloodline" lives on in Hikari (and that this clan also fought the shadow historically), so while this isn't a direct 1:1 connection to the Lumine family being the "bloodline of light" it is pretty damned close, so yeah, I'm thinking Kura and Rita were distantly related, and I'm still thinking they might have some connection possibly to Alpates. So hmm...yeah more stuff to think about....
#I should really go and sleep I have to be up early for work#I just wanted to jot down some thoughts so I could stop saving them in the ''I need to write this down so I don't forget'' part of my brain#game theory is my treat for having to deal with the horrors#as is ruining my sleep schedule I suppose...#anyhows...that's all for tonight#oracle of lore
excuse me? Oboro almost KILLS someone in three for a cloud?! -Blood Anon
Bingo My Blood Anon!!!
Now keep in mind that this is not normal. Oboro doesn’t kill people. Still a hero and all that. He does however go and greatly intimidate villains and makes sure that they regret committing the crime in the first place.
There are many perks of being a present hero in the areas he patrols and establishing quickly that he won’t tolerate injustice. People quickly back down when they learn that Loud Cloud may show up to stop them.
Oboro doesn’t kill. He shows up, puts on a show, and damn makes sure that people get through into their heads that they shouldn’t go around endangering people’s lives for their own ends.
But ooooh when he found out who caused the Noumus? When he found out who revived his friends and twisted them into something else? Oooooh he was so so close to drawing Blood.
His mind Convinced the Revenge would make it worth the Pain and Grief he went through. That the Aching would go away and finally let have a semblance of peace.
Oboro would have lost himself if no one intervened, and someone did intervene. Mr Compress intervened and stopped him before Oboro had the chance to go and kill the man who hurt his friends, who turned them into something unrecognizable, who prolonged their suffering beyond death.
That Man never would have stood a Chance if no one stepped in. The pitiful Excuse Stained the earth with his twisted mind.
It would honestly be considered a blessing if Dr Garaki would one day up and died but god. The consequences would be too much. It wouldn’t have been worth it.
It's a good thing Loud Cloud was Stopped. Or else Shirakumo Oboro would have been dead in every way that mattered.
#boku no hero academia#my hero academia#boku no hero academia au#my hero academia au#three for a cloud au#shirakumo oboro#mr compress#sako atsuhiro#doctor garaki#garaki kyuudai#ask#mod kiwi#mod asphodel#blood anon#*slaps roof of Shirakumo Oboro* He is not okay#revenge is okay until you slowly lose yourself in it and sacrifice all that makes you *you*#then your boyfriend has complete permission to compress you out of heavy concern and low-key out of fear
if Katsura was in the courtesan of a nation arc, he would of killed Oboro in a way that the altana wouldn't of been able to revive him
May have asked this before, but I can't remember.
Is there any reason for Oboro's hatred of Asagi?
Oboro has two main reasons as to why she hates Asagi. One, she was killed by Asagi before she was revived by Edwin Black. Two, Edwin Black really wants Asagi to join his side thus Oboro grew very jealous.
Have a good day!
AHHHH OMFG YAY! I wasn't expecting another one and I am so glad I woke up to this! It was pretty late last night, so I'm sorry I couldn't get to it sooner!
Who’s your favorite character?
ALL MIGHT! (and Tomoyasu Chikazoku my husband)
Who’s your favorite hero?
Going right back to him: All Might! He really is just such a good character and gets thrown away way too much :(
Who’s your favorite class 1-A student?
Iida. Because he's amazing and his dub voice is one of my favs VA's. But yeah I've come to find I love Iida a lot as a character!
Who’s your favorite 1-B student?
Oh, this is such a good question... I like the Manga kid, I think he's pretty cool, but I'm gonna go with Testutestu
Who’s your favorite villain?
*coughs* Skeptic *coughs again* I mean Dabi
Who’s backstory is the saddest?
Dabi. His whole story is one of the only reasons I'm still reading the manga. Like bro was alone for so long and never felt loved by his dad and now bro is burning. Though, now that I think about it the whole Oboro thing is really sad and same with Shiggy. idk who would be the saddest, but Dabi's story is keeping me hooked, so there's that lol
Who do you relate to most?
Oh god.... good question..... I really don't know let me think about this.... Probably Denki? Yeah let's go with Denki.
Who’s your favorite underrated character?
Guess I gotta say it LMFAO *ahem* SKEPTIC. Like come on people, he was tossed around in the anime like he was nothing but istg he's important T^T and like just one of my fav anime characters ever T^T
Whats your favorite ship? (Optional)
me and skeptic I MEAN UH.... I'm pretty fond of Mic and Aizawa and people hate too much on Deku and Uraraka
What character would you revive?
tbh horikoshi is too scared to kill characters sometimes LMFAO but I would have to go with Oboro, or if I can get technical with this answer, All Might (who isn't dead, just as a character is lol) OMFG NO WAIT I JUST REMEMBERED! TWICE. BRO DESERVED BETTER AND NASTY AHH HAWKS JUST SLAUGHTERED HIM. Yeah, probably Oboro though
If you could change a villains past which would it be and how?
Literally just give Dabi a home. In any way. Whether it be back with the Todoroki's or something else, I just wish he had a better childhood
Who’s your favorite character to write for?
Skeptic and Dabi (you can see a pattern here LMFAO)
(Extra) If you appeared in the mha universe what would be the first thing you’d do (timeline: ep 1)
Probably go hang out with Dabi or like chill with the league. I don't wanna be a villain, just show love to the ones who weren't treated well
(Hero) Kiss marry kill with… Bakugo, Deku, todoroki
Kiss: Bakugo Marry: Deku Kill: Todoroki Deku's a cutie, Bakugo would bite me, and I just don't like Todoroki LMFAO
(Pro hero) kiss marry kill with… Midnight, Aizawa, Endeavor (idk how to spell it)
Kiss: Midnight Marry: Aizawa Kill: Endeavor I ain't gay, but I would take a kiss from Midnight any day. I was actually gonna kiss Endeavor, but vs them, sorry bro LMFAO
(Villians) Kiss marry kill… Shigaraki, Dabi, Overhaul
Kiss: Overhaul Marry: Dabi Kill: Shigaraki This one was almost difficult, but I would always put Shiggy away LMFAO but between Dabi and Overhaul, that was a tad difficult, but I think this works lolol
Thank you so much omfg I wanna do a million more of these KJFKJLFDKL literally though, thanks again! I hope you have a good day today and keep yourself well <3
LIVE A LIVE (2022)
Gameplay : ★★★☆☆ Graphics : ★★☆☆☆ Story : ★★★☆☆ Customizability : ★★☆☆☆ Replayability :★★☆☆☆
LIVE A LIVE (2022) is a remake of the original version from Super Famicom made in year 1994. This remake is developed by the same team of Octopath Traveler, resulting in the same kind of pixel artstyle.
LIVE A LIVE is also similar to Octopath Traveler in the sense that you will have to play through different characters' story first. In LIVE A LIVE, there are 7 main characters that are set in different time era. In the final chapter, these main characters will come together to defeat the final boss of the game. However unlike Octopath Traveler, each of these stories are short, lasting an average of 1-3 hours per storyline, and the amount of time in the final chapter is short as well.
Combat Mechanics
Combat is a grid-turn-based strategy game. Each unit have a bar similar to Final Fantasy's Action Time Bar. Basically once the bar is full, the unit can act. Performing an attack will drain the whole bar. Unit can move around as much as they want during their turn, however each movement will fill up all unit's time bar as well. When the enemy's bar is full, they will act even if its your turn.
HP
When an ally HP is reduced to zero in battle, they will not be able to fight. However they are not removed from battle yet. If they are healed, they will be back in action. However, when they are hit again when their HP is already zero, then they will be removed from the battle and will not be able to earn EXP from that battle.
Note that all characters will revive and restore back all health after each battle.
Tiles
As the combat is grid-based, it is natural for it to have Tile effects. Certain abilities will cause grid(s) (or tiles), to be imbued with elemental effects. Most of the different tile effects are damage-based, ie standing on the tile will deal damage once awhile. Certain bosses can absorb certain elements, thus standing on the corresponding tile effect will in turn heal them.
Leader
There are few combats where there are alot of enemies, and with one enemy with a yellow flag icon. The yellow flag indicates that this enemy is the leader of the bunch, and defeating it will defeat the rest of the enemies too.
New Game+
There is no new game+. However you can go back to any chapter and continue the chapter (before final boss of the chapter) or play from the beginning.
Tips:
When playing Pogo's story, it is most recommended to farm "Cola-Bottle" item drop from the secret boss "Mammoth King". As the drop rate is only about 33%, save before the fight and reload if it doesn't drop. This reusable item is so OP that it will deal 999 damage to a single target, making the final chapter a joke.
As always, if you need a good guide, I would recommend this. Disclaimer: Not written by me
Note that in the final chapter there is a secret boss you can fight. However for the boss to appear you need to escape from battle about a hundred times or so. You will receive a notification when you are just 5 times away. If you want to fight this boss, remember to start running from random encounter when in final chapter.
Only equipment equipped on the 7 main characters, and in their inventories will be carried over to the final chapter
To understand what is classified as Physical or Special attack, look at the symbol for the abilities. Martial/Agile/Thrusting/Slashing/Blunt/Grappling/Projectile are physical, while Fire/Water/Wind/Spirit/Divine/Demonic are special. Earth abilities are the only exception, which scales off Vitality for Masaru, and special for Oboro.
My Opinion:
The Good:
Storyline is short but great. I especially love the storyline of "Distant Future".
The Bad:
Due to the final chapter with all the characters being too short, it results in lack of the feeling of building a party, as you will spend 3/4 of the time playing different characters instead of "building your own party".
The storyline of how everyone gets teleported to the same realm in the final chapter is quite far-fetched and wasn't well represented. Felt like the game just wanted everyone to come together but couldn't come up with a good storyline.
The max stat of 150 is too low, causing alot of end-game item to be quite worthless
My Playthrough
Completed the game with True Ending. Completed all trials, and got the best weapons for all 7 characters. Also defeated all secret and super bosses.
Team Setup
My party in final chapter consists of Lei (Earthen Heart Master), Oboromaru, Akira and Cube.
To be honest if I am using the cheese "Cola Bottle" method, I can use anyone and it wouldn't make much difference. However I still want to come up with a team that is good for general usage.
Firstly, I need a healer in my team. Cube is the best healer with its Counter healing skills. Then I need a debuffer, which Akira is the strongest in. For the remaining two slots, I wanted 1 physical attacker and 1 special attacker. These 2 attackers should also have an AOE attack because for single-target, I can just use "Cola Bottle". Lei is my first chosen attacker because she has access to one of the strongest AOE attack that can target the whole screen. Since Lei's strongest abilities scale off Special Attack, my last slot will go to a physical attacker. In the end I decided with Oboromaru for his "Death Blossom" ability.
Cube
For Cube's equipment, I prioritized its speed because it is sooo slow. Special Attack can easily reached max so I don't need to raise it too much.
In battle, all it needs to do is to use either "Data Recovery" or "Repair and Restore" to heal allies.
Akira
For equipment, same as Cube, I prioritized its speed due to him being too slow. His role isn't too much focus on damage dealing so I did not raise his Attack too much.
Akira is my backup healer because Cube heals quite little to be honest. In battle, he just need to use either "Healing Touch" to heal, or "Judgement Day" to deal damage, which will inflict alot of debuffs.
Lei
For Lei, her two strongest attacks scale off Special Attack, thus for equipment I prioritized on it. She has a natural high speed so I didnt build her speed further, but built her on more defense so she can take more damage.
In battle, she only needs to use either "Sacred Dragon's Temper" for AOE, or "Heavenly Peaks Descent" for single-target.
Oboromaru
In battle, Obomaru's job is to cast "Death Blossom" as it is his best ability. As it scales off Physical Attack, for equipment I prioritized getting Physical Attack to max, before increasing his Defense for survivability.
