Goncharov coming third in tumblr's top 100 movies of 2023 is so damn funny. Imagine being a film studio exec who spent millions making some of the other 97 movies listed below it only to be beaten by a film that cost exactly zero dollars to make and doesn't exist

Reading Mockingjay as an adult is extra devastating because. Of course the plucky teenager and her ragtag friends aren't going to sneak into a government building to kill the president with a bow and arrow. That's absolutely ridiculous. It's the kind of thing that's only possible in the kind of propaganda that Coin developed. But she's so good at it that in some ways she tricks the reader into thinking that's the kind of story this is, too--even after 3 books reminding us that pretty much everything that Katniss does the second she volunteers is manipulated by adults pulling strings to make propaganda in some form or another.

people are drawing Steamboat Willie Mickey doing all this crazy shit and whatnot, but you could always do that. you can do that now, with current Mickey, just fine. it's fanart and it's legally protected. hell you could take Disney-drawn Mickey and put a caption about unions or whatever on it and it would still be protected under free speech and sometimes even parody law.
what is special about public domain is that you can SELL him. you could take a screenshot and sell it on a tshirt. you can use him to advertise your plumbing business. people have already uploaded and monetized the original film.
you could always have Mickey say what you want, but now you can profit off it.

Movie Financials Uncovered - Spacenet TV's Box Office Analysis
Film studios aren't often able to disclose the budgets of their films. But there are ways to determine the cost of a film. Movies have to make money through a variety of sources beyond ticket sales. These include: ancillary revenue, sequels, merchandise, TV rights, and streaming. What's the word on box office profits? 1. Theatrical Revenue Tickets for movie theaters are the primary source of income for films. Whether a standard experience or an extravagant one the number of seats used during the filming process of a movie is directly linked to its overall potential for revenue. The big box office numbers you read about in the media are based on gross domestic and international revenues. Before the money is transferred to the studios they must deduct the costs. Then there's the sales tax and the shares of cinemas - which typically range from 40 to 45 percent. That's before the actors' share and the other distribution costs. A movie isn't considered profitable when the box office revenue exceeds twice the amount that was invested in its production. This is why some movies that have huge profits such as "Harry Potter" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" have to declare losses on their financial statements. Don't be too quick to judge. These losses are due to international sales and marketing. 2. Television Rights In the last few years, the rights for television market has experienced an abrupt shift. Pay-per-view and dedicated sports channels platforms have been fighting against broadcasters who are traditional, and tech giants have also gotten into the fray. Broadcast Rights (excluding Te Mangai Paho Funding) refers to the right to broadcast the Programme(s) as part of a linear television broadcast service using satellite, terrestrial, cable or fibre transmission network to allow public display and streaming, which includes delay or simultaneous retransmission or distribution, as well as making it available to the Internet or mobile broadcasting technology. Free TV Rights (excluding Te Mangai Paho), refers to the right to broadcast the Programme(s) in a regular linear manner on any independent or public network for public viewing as well as on-demand viewing. This includes the right to communicate the Programme(s) to the general public via any internet, cable, IPTV or wireless transmission networks where subscribers of the public are required to pay a fee or subscribe. 3. Merchandising The right to sell merchandise can be significant sources of income for both distributors and studios. Disney for instance, built a huge empire by selling Mickey Mouse ears as well as other items related to movies such E.T. The sale of movie products is a great way to promote a film, as well as generating new revenue. In the movie The Goonies a scene shows an infant giving Reese's Pieces to the main character. This led to an impressive increase in sales for company making Reese's Pieces. The application of this type of placement of products in major films is essential. Also, music from well-known films such as Saturday Night Fever and Flashdance can generate substantial revenues from soundtracks and also be utilized to increase awareness of the film. 4. Streaming
youtube
Streamers will prioritize shows on television that they produce (or show on channels owned or operated by their parent company such like NBC Universal TV Productions or 21st Century Fox Television). It lets them recoup the licensing fees they have paid for the show after having paid off their production costs. In turn, it's not uncommon to see some of the same names pop up on the lists of streaming originals and acquired shows. (Source: Nielsen Streaming Content Ratings, U.S., based on minutes viewed by persons 2and over.) NBC Universal TV productions rank among the streaming shows that are watched by the most people, followed by Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Paramount+ and Peacock. Credits to YouTube

Box Office Winners and Losers - Spacenet TV's Analysis
After a glut of movies such as Fast X and Spider-Verse, the summer movie season began to slow down. Both Greta Gerwig's Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s atomic-bomb drama Oppenheimer two summer movies with huge budgets, did not perform. There are a few franchises that have not brought in the money neither. We profile the top performers and losers of this summer's box office. 1. The Fate of the Furious With a reported $100 million in revenue, The Fate of the Furious (aka Fast & Furious 8) was able to frighten away rivals and is now nearing the point of overtaking Beauty and the Beast for the top domestic film of the year. The film also set records on the international market. In China, it opened with $190 million -- the highest ever opening for this series. It's predicted to be among the fastest films to cross $1 billion worldwide in 2017. 2. Spider-Man Far Away From Home Spider-Man: Far From Home is a Marvel Studios release that opened on Wednesday and lasted 6 days (Wednesday-Monday), reenergized the viewers after a tough summer. The sequel exceeded the previous record of its predecessor in a big way. Tom Holland returns as the wise-cracking web-slinger from a film which sees him join Nick Fury and Mysterio on an educational trip to Europe. This is set to be the very first Sony MCU film to reach the threshold of $1 billion globally. 3. Avengers: Endgame
youtube
The Avengers come together following the events of Infinity War to reverse Thanos’s actions and save their world. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), Captain America Chris Evans, Black Widow Scarlett Johansson and Thor Chris Hemsworth are the survivors. Endgame's anticipation was intense and the anticipation paid off since the movie set records on its opening weekend. The film is also predicted to reach $2 billion in the world this is something no other film has ever accomplished. 4. The LEGO Movie 2 - The Second Part The first Lego Movie was released in 2014. It was heralded as an enthralling animation that changed the game, a frenetic and free-wheeling burst of energy which fought against the cynicism inherent to the film genre. The sequel is much the same that heavily draws on the after-school special feelings. While it's a decent film, it has some disappointing moments. 5. The Lego Batman Movie The Lego Batman Movie dominated the President's Day long weekend. Will Arnett stars as the billionaire superhero who defends Gotham City against crime. It has now earned $107.1 million on the American market. Both Fist Fight & The Great Wall were not up to the mark. They are not expected to challenge for top spot next week. Hidden Figures and Split are in good shape. 6. Star Wars: The Last Jedi Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been a huge hit for Disney. The sequel to JJ Arams' Force Awakens has joined the exclusive group of 32 films that have reached the $1 billion mark. The film will soon beat Beauty and the Beast, which was the most viewed film released in the year 2017. Despite the fact that it polarized some fans, Episode VIII was a big success for the franchise. 7. The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part made $34.4 million in the last weekend to top the box office. The film fell short of Warner Bros. and tracking services' projections. The sequel was a massive success but it lost some of the appeal that the first film possessed. This could explain why the movie wasn't quite as popular. 8. The Lego Batman Movie The original Lego Movie is a huge success. It was an absolute blast, even though it did not receive the same scores as its Pixar rival (a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes and 7.8 on IMDB). It's unfortunate that this sequel doesn't seem quite as entertaining. Perhaps it's over saturation and there are two spinoffs that have been out (The Lego Batman Movie and The Lego Ninjago Movie) Or maybe the public weren't keen on seeing any more from this series. 9. The Lego Batman Movie 2 The Lego Batman Movie 2 The Second Part Warner Bros.'s animated sequel fell short in its attempt at appealing to older audiences, as it did with its predecessor. Fifty Shades Darker & John Wick 2 were able to fend off the competition of Warner Bros. Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, Rosario Dawson, and Zach Galifianakis all return as voice actors. The theme of the film is that optimism can be a positive force for good. 10. The Lego Batman Movie After the commercial and critical popularity of The Lego Movie, Warner Bros. was quick to begin planning another sequel. The movie, however, never happened. Chris Pratt is joined by Elizabeth Banks and Zach Galifianakis in the film. Tiffany Haddish and Maya Rudolph are also in the film. Mike Mitchell directed this movie which was based on a screenplay written by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Its premise was a dramatic tale of The Godfather Part II and Boogie Nights that teaches Batman the importance of friendship. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1JT4WD3IOQ

Spacenet TV Reviews Weekend Box Office Performance
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. The third installment of the Hunger Games series, based on the novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins. The film was written and directed by Francis Lawrence and stars Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark, Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne, Woody Harrelson as Haymitch Abernathy, Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket, Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman, Donald Sutherland as President Snow and Julianne Moore as Alma Coin. The latest installment of The Hunger Games is a somewhat slow and unfocused despite the effort of its characters. The political subtext, beautiful imagery, and many other aspects remain, however the speed is a bit slower than previous installments. They'll hopefully be able to learn from their mistakes in the fourth and final installment. The franchise finale is deserved more. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 Francis Lawrence directs the fourth and final film in the series The Hunger Games. The film is an adaptation of Suzanne Collins' 2010 novel Mockingjay. It features Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Donald Sutherland and Stanley Tucci. Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) is a symbol of the revolt she is at the forefront of the revolt against the Capitol. Now, she has to lead the charge to free Panem from President Snow's tyrannical rule. She will need to conquer a number of dangers, enemies, and moral ambiguities that test her strength as well as courage. The movie was a worldwide success, and became the highest-grossing film in the franchise. The film also won a number of awards. The film released on the 15th of November, 2015. It was the second-highest-grossing film of 2015, second only to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 3 In the wake of Twilight The Hunger Games ignited a young adult adaptation phenomenon with Jennifer Lawrence as uprising icon Katniss Everdeen. The Giver and Divergent were the sequels to the series, but neither could compare to the world-building, dystopian setting tension, high stakes drama and a decent love story that helped make The Hunger Games so unique. Following victory in the 74th Annual Hunger Games, Katniss and Peeta are back in District 12. They are greeted with broadcasts from the Capitol, congratulating them on their victory and promising they will be back. In District 13, Beetee breaks into the broadcast to listen to President Coin's tribute to the Mockingjay. The team decides to kill him, but Katniss refuses. She tells them that it will only make the Capitol even more angry. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 4
youtube
Following the success of The Hunger Games and Catching Fire the franchise expanded into a series of sequels. Mockingjay-Part 2 is the final film in the trilogy. The film is a post-apocalyptic thriller that's based on the second-half of Suzanne Collins' novel of the same title. Francis Lawrence returns to direct the film, and Jennifer Lawrence once again portraying Katniss Everdeen. The film also features Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark, Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne, Woody Harrelson as Haymitch Abernathy Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket and Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman. Mockingjay - Part 2 is a cut above other young adult dystopian adaptations. It skilfully blends politically charged action with elements of horror (how do you feel about those spongy white creatures that inhabit subterranean space?) It also has a dash of romance. It is anchored by a superb performance by Lawrence who effortlessly balances the strength of becoming merciless at war without losing humanity. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 5 The prequel of the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise stars Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird. The film is a follow-up to Coriolanus as he guides the female tribute from District 12 in the 10th Annual Hunger Games, decades before he is made the tyrannical President of Panem. His actions ignite rebellion as power and corruption meet at the Capitol after the World War II. The film was a massive disappointment to many of the fans who hoped that the prequel would reignite enthusiasm for Katniss' story and lead to a series of sequels. Lionsgate may find it difficult to develop more prequels of The Hunger Games due to the poor performance of the film. Lionsgate has to decide whether it wants to create more films or create a new trilogy with a distinct character. The next movie of the franchise, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is scheduled to come out in 2023. All credtis to YouTube

Box Office Winners and Losers - Spacenet TV's Analysis
Following a rush of summer blockbusters such as Fast X, Spider-Verse and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the movie season has slowed down. Both Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan's nuclear-bomb drama Oppenheimer two summer movies with big budgets, underperformed. There are many franchises that have not been a box-office success. Below, we look at some of the biggest winners and losers of the summer time. 1. The Fate of the Furious With an estimated budget of $100 million in sales, The Fate of the Furious (aka Fast & Furious 8) has frightened off competition and is already in the process of surpassing Beauty and the Beast for the most popular domestic film of the year. The movie also broke records in the international market. In China it premiered with $190 million -- the biggest debut ever for this franchise. It is on track to become one of the fastest films of 2017 to surpass $1 billion in global sales. 2. Spider-Man Far Away Home After a rough summer, Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: Far From Home revived viewers with a record $185 million six day (Wednesday-Monday) opening weekend. The sequel broke the previous record in a big way. Tom Holland returns as the wise-cracking web-slinger from a film which sees him join Nick Fury and Mysterio on an educational trip to Europe. It's set to become the first Sony-produced MCU film to surpass the $1 billion mark across the globe. 3. Avengers: Endgame The Avengers are back together after the events of Infinity War to reverse Thanos’s actions and save their world. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), Captain America Chris Evans, Black Widow Scarlett Johansson and Thor Chris Hemsworth are the survivors. The anticipation for Endgame was exhilarating and paid off as the film shattered records on its opening weekend. The film is predicted to reach $2 billion globally which is a feat that no other movie in history has achieved. 4. The LEGO Movie 2 - The Second Part The first Lego Movie was released in 2014. The movie was widely acclaimed as a game-changing animated which was a frenzied and free-spirited burst of energy which fought against the cynicism inherent to the style. The sequel is more of the original, with an emphasis on after school specials. It's fun, but while it's an enjoyable movie, it's also a little disappointing. 5. The Lego Batman Movie Over the lengthy President's Day weekend, The Lego Batman Movie was the most watched film. Will Arnett stars as the billionaire superhero who guards Gotham City against crime. The film has made $107.1 million in the United States. Both Fist Fight & The Great Wall did not meet expectations for both. It is likely that neither film will be able to challenge the top spot for next week's ratings. But holdovers like Hidden Figures, Split and La La Land are showing no sign of slowing. 6. Star Wars: The Last Jedi Star Wars: The Last Jedi was a massive hit for Disney and Lucasfilm. The sequel to JJ Abrams' Force Awakens joined the elite club of 32 films that have crossed the $1 billion mark. The film will soon surpass Beauty and the Beast, which was the biggest release in 2017. Despite polarizing some fans, Episode VIII was a massive success for the series.
youtube
7. The Lego Movie 2 - The Part 2 Part The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part brought in $34.4 million in the last weekend, which was the highest at the box office. However, it was short of the projections Warner Bros and tracking services had for it. The sequel was a massive success, but it didn't have all of the charm the original film had. That might explain why it didn't make the same success. 8. The Lego Batman Movie The very first Lego Movie is a huge hit. It was a great time, even though it did not receive the same scores as its Pixar counterpart (a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 7.8 on IMDB). The sequel doesn't seem to be as entertaining. This could be because there isn't enough interest from the public or it could be due to the fact that there are already two spinoffs (The Lego Batman Movie & The Lego Ninjago Movie). 9. The Lego Batman Movie 2: The Second Part Warner Bros.'s animated sequel did not succeed in its attempts to appeal to older audiences the way it did with the first. Fifty Shades Darker and John Wick 2 were able to stomp on the heels of Warner Bros. Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, Rosario Dawson, and Zach Galifianakis all return as voice actors. The message of the film is that the world realistically can't be amazing all the time, however, optimism is a good thing. 10. The Lego Batman Movie Warner Bros. rushed to make a sequel to the critical and commercial success of The Lego Movie. The movie, however, did not happen. The film stars Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett and Zach Galifianakis along with Maya Rudolph and Tiffany Haddish as well. Mike Mitchell directed the movie from Phil Lord and Chris Miller's screenplay. Its premise was a dramatic tale of The Godfather Part II and Boogie Nights that teaches Batman the importance of friendship. Credits to YouTube
