hello! I am looking for a fic where Draco steps in front of a curse to save Hermione. Not sure which curse it was might have been the avada or something else that really harms Draco.
would greatly appreciate the help :)
Anyone?
Edit: Thanks!

Harry dealing with abuse trauma/people finding out about Dursley’s treatment
Ok so I didn’t know exactly how to word this particular genre of Harry Potter fanfiction, but I have been reading some fanfics where either the teachers, Sirius or the golden trio find out that Harry has been abused by the Dursley’s and how Harry deals or heals from that trauma. #cupboardreveal
so therefore below is a list of fanfics that deal with this topic, this is pretty obvious but TW for child abuse, some of these I haven’t read yet so i don’t think any of them feature active abuse, more so past abuse.
All of these will be angst but many with a hopeful/happy ending. Organised by word count. If you would like some fic recs that don’t focus on Harrys abuse here’s the link to my master list Harry Potter Fic Rec (mostly Drarry)

If you're comfortable answering, how do you think JKR intended Draco to come across, and how did he actually come across in your mind?
I think Draco was intended to come off as a weak and kind of pathetic bully. The Dudley Dursley of the Wizarding World.
That’s how we’re introduced to him: “Harry was strongly reminded of Dudley.” Almost he first thing we hear Draco say is the very Dudley-ish -  “I'm going to drag [my parents] off to look at racing brooms... I think I'll bully Father into getting me one and I'll smuggle it in somehow." Later books re-contextualize this as a brag - he is not actually able to bully his father into buying him presents, and instead of Dudley's tantrums Draco likes to embellish things in order to seem more impressive and get the result he wants. But initially, I think Draco = Dudley. They both dislike people who are different, dislike Harry for being more special (and because they’ve been given tacit permission to bully him...)They’re spoiled by their parents. They’re even both platinum blonde.
JKR loves the idea of an antagonist who realizes that they were wrong and *you were right* a little too late, and then has no choice but to punish themselves. (Basically the entire deal with Snape.) So - Draco and Dudley get some of that treatment too. After Dudley meets the dementor he breaks down, has a moment where he leaves Harry a cup of tea, and another where he says “I don’t think you’re a waste of space.” BUT Dudley’s initial breakdown is framed as pathetic (even a touch comedic.)The tea he leaves outside Harry’s door has gone cold, and when Harry steps in it he initially thinks it’s a dumb prank. Dudley says “I don’t think you’re a waste of space” only in response to a comment Harry makes. Hestia Jones is super unimpressed, and thinks Dudley should be doing more.
Like, JKR is aware that it’s not *completely* Dudley‘s fault he’s like that. Dumbledore comments on the “appalling damage [Vernon and Petunia] have inflicted on the unfortunate boy sitting between you.” But the damage is still done, and Dudley is meant to be seen as a figure of pity. All this is supposed to read as ‘too little, too late.’ If Dudley were less of a coward, a stronger person, a better person, he would’ve brought Harry the tea directly.
Now let’s look at Draco, who is given some *very* similar beats. We see him crying in the bathroom, comforted by Myrtle (a comedic character) very similarly to how Dudley basically goes into shock after the dementor. Draco and Dudley are both framed as weak, but able to see the error of their ways, and their breakdowns set up an important plot/character moment for Harry.
Draco’s little “I can’t— I can’t be sure,” when he’s asked to identify Harry at Malfoy Manor is another beat of ‘too little, too late.’ Harry takes Draco’s wand a few minutes later (absolutely castration imagery - just look at how the text treats Lucius losing his wand) and then Dobby shows up to low-key shame Draco by doing the job that he [narratively] was supposed to have done: rescuing Harry and friends, probably dying in the process. I do think that’s how we’re supposed to read that scene. And then Harry gets these very similar selfless beats of saving Dudley (from dementors) and saving Draco (from fiendfyre.) That’s why JKR is so baffled when people like Draco, think he’s attractive, or ship him with Hermione. It’d be like shipping her with Dudley, it doesn’t make sense.
But a couple things went “wrong” when Draco was released into the world. For one thing, I think a lot of people saw his more indirect underhanded approach (he likes rumors, smear campaigns, blackmail, poison, sneaky back entrances, tricking/provoking Harry into breaking rules) as evidence that he's clever, and not that he’s a cowardly, spineless little weasel.
Then because JKR is committed to making Draco look ineffectual and comedic, she also makes him… not that bad? Most of his bad behavior goes down between books 1 and 3, and I’m sorry - when you’re 12 your politics are your parents' politics. You are not not responsible for that. By the end of the series Draco’s politics *have* changed, pretty drastically, and they changed under challenging circumstances.
I also think JKR accidentally gave him a better relationship with his father than she meant to? Jason Isaacs plays Lucius Malfoy as cold, I could see him being a *bit* of a bully when it comes to Draco -  but in the book, they go on outings, Draco complains to his father, Lucius is patient with him, gives him advice, sets boundaries, sends him little newspaper clippings in the mail. Lucius and Narcissa are running around without wands during the Battle of Hogwarts looking for him, and it’s supposed to be like “here are the Malfoys defanged.” But it's just a sweet moment. And if you’re positioning Draco as a romantic lead, then yeah I’d say that “good relationship with his parents” is an attractive trait.
The movie also did Draco Malfoy a HUGE favor by saying that yes, he absolutely does have the Dark Mark. That is never confirmed in the book. You can make the case that he doesn’t have it, and he’s doing what he does and embellishing the truth to seem more impressive. Hermione doesn’t think he has it. Ron says “I still don’t reckon You-Know-Who would let Malfoy join.” If he doesn’t have the Dark Mark, Draco gets to stay a semi-pathetic minor villain. But the second he does have it… well now you have someone who was given this tattoo/brand thing the *moment* he turned 16 (Draco has a June birthday) and now is 100% stuck. He is on a magical leash to Voldemort. He can’t run, can’t hide. All he can do is ride out this thing as best he can, and hope it doesn’t kill him or his parents. That’s a much more sympathetic character.
And my last thing, about the moment where he lies for Harry in Malfoy Manor (movies frame it as 100% a lie, books keep it more ambiguous)... is I don’t think J. K. Rowling realizes that Draco is the first person in the entire 7th book who helps Harry, at all. Molly Weasley is actively sabotaging the Golden Trio's planning by splitting them up and making them do wedding chores. Xenophilius Lovegood betrays them, Bathilda Bagshot betrays them, Rufus Scrimgeor is no help, Remus Lupin needs *their* help, Dumbledore gave them a series of maddening riddles. Snape gives them a weird puzzle to solve (also he’s very much acting under Dumbledore’s orders…) So when Draco DOES put himself on the line to buy them a few minutes, it makes for a pretty striking moment. He also keeps to this lie even when Lucius tells him not to, he lies to Bellatrix, he is almost certainly going to have to repeat this lie to Voldemort, who can read minds…
So I think most fans look at Draco and see someone who is arrogant, a little bit of a shit, but is also sensitive, clever, emotional, nonviolent. (He’s definitely got a little bit of boy band non-threatening sexuality going on.) Draco will go out on a limb for the people he loves, and he comes through when it counts. There’s a survivor-mentality practicality to him, which is especially appealing in a series where so many characters are so willing to martyr themselves.

A daily(?) kinktober Tumblr fic. Will post to AO3 on American Thanksgiving, 2023.
Harry is a K9 unit Auror. Draco is the Ministry Kennelmaster. How could that possibly lead to anything?
Tags: collaring, top Draco, sensual pet play, touch starved Harry, bathing, shaving, rescue dog feels, other tags TBA, maybe dark draco ending?, maybe werewolves?, definitely coming untouched though, just blasting rope man
--
Chapter One
“I assure you, Auror Potter,” drawled the Patronus, speaking even before it found its full form, “there is nothing wrong with your partner.”
Malfoy’s tone was patronising, as though he were telling Harry that the monsters under his bed weren’t real, and to go back to sleep.
Next to Harry’s desk, his ‘partner’ had managed to catch his tail and was currently gnawing on it with nothing short of ardour.  K9 Auror Wurst, aka RottWurst, clamped down on his fluffy tail so hard, Harry swore he heard a crunch.
The bright fog condensed into a direwolf the size of a modest pony.  It was the perfect symbol for Draco Malfoy.  A pale, leggy, sharp-toothed relic of another time.
“And I assure you,” Harry spat, “Kennelmaster Malfoy, that this mutt’s fucking touched in the head.”
The mutt in question was eighty-plus pounds of Rottweiler-poodle abomination.  He looked like a St Bernard had dug into an avalanche, missed the humans, and hit a thousand-volt power line instead.  The curly white fur on his belly was caked with mud, and his brown muzzle still had bits of grass clippings on it.  The rest of him was black, save his brown eyebrows and speckled ears.
“He keeps alerting to sex magic, not dark magic.  It’s fucking embarrassing.  Dragged me across Hyde Park.  I had to use a Confundus on him to get him back to the office.”
The direwolf was so still that Harry blinked twice to make sure the shape wasn’t burned into his retinas.  It was a bloody showboat of a Patronus.
It was so bright that it brought out the dinginess of Harry’s office.  The yellow carpet had a pale brown trail between the door and Harry’s desk chair.  The corners of the ceiling had cobwebs, and the baseboards held an unhealthy amount of dust.
The fresh dog piss on the floor didn’t help things.
“I mean, he’s not worthless,” Harry added.  “But Robards said he can’t reassign him to Vice.  That he doesn’t have that authority.  So it must be you who has to do it.”
It was a little risky to bypass Robards the way he had, contacting Malfoy directly.  He probably should have made an appointment with his assistant or something.
But he’d been angry, so he’d pulled an interdepartmental priority Howler out of his desk and sent it.
There was probably a DMLE protocol for contacting a member of the Wizengamot.  There was a DMLE protocol for everything but wiping his arse.  Actually, they probably had one for that, too.
Harry blinked again.  His eyes were dry.  He was on hour seven of a twelve-hour shift.  After this, he’d get another coffee.
The direwolf shifted its weight, then leaned back, hindquarters high, in a deep stretch.  Its paws spread out in front of it.
Harry wondered if Malfoy was actually stretching.  And what that might look like.
It’d been years since he’d seen Malfoy in person.  Just in the papers, and only in the background of Wizengamot photos.  He’d been called to his Wizengamot seat the day after his thirtieth birthday, having met the minimum age.  They hadn’t called Hermione to hers until she was thirty-two.  She’d die mad about that.
The direwolf laid down, then yawned.
Harry yawned.
Wurst yawned.  Then farted.
Harry thought to check the time.  2:30 AM, according to his wristwatch.  He’d been on the clock for fourteen hours.  Not seven.
“Shit,” Harry said.
He’d woken a member of the Wizengamot at 2:30 AM.  And an important one.
The direwolf sighed and tucked its muzzle under its paw.  Harry held his breath.  Maybe Malfoy would fall asleep.
Maybe he’d doze off, and he’d think he dreamt he got a Howler in the middle of the night from a burnout beat cop at least six rungs below him.  Maybe.
The direwolf sighed again, then drifted away like will-o'-the-wisps on the wind.
Maybe Malfoy wouldn’t report this.
Maybe.
Maybe Robards wouldn’t kill him.
He drummed his fingers on his desk.  If he did get written up, it’d be his sixth this year.  Two of them were for failing to meet dress code, but the shaving regulations were stupid, and the hygiene one was just weird.
Still.
Wurst looked at him.  He looked at Wurst.
Nothing would happen.  His talk with Malfoy had only lasted a few seconds.  He’d think it was a dream.
It would be fine.
“It’ll be fine,” Harry told Wurst, ignoring the sweat on his palms.
Wurst’s nostrils flared, and then an ivory envelope slid under the door.  It sat on the grimy carpet for a moment, then folded itself into a swan.  With a few wingbeats, it landed on Harry’s desk and unfolded itself.
Inside was a business card.
Draco L Malfoy Wizengamot Member, Kennelmaster Warminster BA13 4SH UK
“Shit,” Harry said.
He flipped the card over.  On the back was an appointment date and time.  Tomorrow.
“Fuck.”
Robards was going to kill him.

Hi Liv,
Do you have any recs where Draco is Harry’s gay awakening?
Thank you 🙏 You’re the absolute best.
Thank you, anon 💜 I got a few recs for you, these also include bi awakening. Btw Writcraft and ignatiustrout are great authors that often explore this theme in their works so I highly recommend checking their ao3. Enjoy!
Bridges by @cavendishbutterfly (E, 16k)
Harry and Draco are on a trip to Budapest to help with Kingsley's re-election, but that's the boring bit. More interesting: Harry Potter is changing his Tinder preferences to include men.
Poor Unfortunate Souls by @doubleappled (E, 19k)
Draco is a potioneer. Harry is trying to save his sex-challenged marriage. Everything is a mess, but at least there's an octopus in the lobby.
Harry Potter and The Bisexual Awakening by @writcraft (E, 23k)
Harry is perfectly content being single, heterosexual and living in Godric's Hollow with his very clingy rescue dog, Snitch. When Draco Malfoy turns up on Harry's doorstep demanding that Harry teach him how to drive, things quickly become a lot more complicated.
The Venice Job by nishizono (E, 25k)
Harry Potter was one of the youngest Aurors in history. He was the Boy Who Lived, and the Boy Who Lived Again. He loved Guinness and Quidditch, and hated pineapple. He wrote letters to Hagrid every Thursday, and on Sundays, he visited Hermione and Ron. Harry Potter was also not gay.
Buds, Blooms, and Beards by @corvuscrowned (E, 27k)
Harry and Ginny have built an easy, happy life for themselves after the war. They run a thriving plant shop together, they have a great relationship, and they're definitely not gay.
Around You Moves by ignatiustrout (M, 29k)
Harry knew Draco was gay when he invited him to move in. He’s never had a problem with this. So why does he feel so weird about Draco bringing men home all of a sudden?
War Wounds by SilentAuror (E, 30k)
Some wounds take longer to recover from than others. HP/DM, with background HP/GW. Themes of alcoholism, love triangles, and dubious fidelity.
On One's Knees by pir8fancier (E, 34k)
The war is over and to the victors go the spoils. If you are triggered by infidelity, this is not the fic for you.
Here's The Pencil, Make It Work by ignatiustrout (M, 49k)
Harry thinks "Why is Malfoy working in a coffee shop in muggle London?" is a much simpler question than, "Are you going to accept that auror offer and, if you don't, what will you do?"
The Beauty of Thestrals and Other Unseen Things by @writcraft (E, 63k)
Harry has terrific friends, an amazing girlfriend and his job as Head Auror enables him to work on challenging cases and Ministry reform. He just wishes he could work out why he’s been so out of sorts.
Reparo by amalin (E, 85k)
Voldemort's final defeat does not mean Harry Potter's troubles are over; far from it. In the aftermath of war, he returns to a Hogwarts that is fractured and divided, but this is no break that can be fixed with a spell. New owls, fading scars, surprising alliances—and along the way, the hardest task of all, to live with it.
Little Deaths and How to Avoid Them (or Draco Malfoy's Guide to Stop Dying and Start Living Instead) by nerakrose and dustmouth (T, 96k)
Malfoy is way too interested in coroner reports for somebody who's definitely not looking for ways to die, Harry wants to be friends with him, and Ginny wants to break up with Harry.
Level Two: Series One by Ashii Black (ashiiblack), blamebrampton, Catsintheattic, dustmouth, epithalamium, incandescent (lmeden), josephinestone (orphan_account), leveltwo, nerakrose, raitala, Romaine, Vaysh, Writcraft (E, 113k)
Witches and wizards are disappearing in a seemingly random fashion. Coincidence? Abductions? But no one is claiming ransom. The Aurors are not even sure the disappearances are connected, then one of the missing turns up dead. Meanwhile, Auror Harry Potter is thrown into the infamous Sirius Black Muggle murder case from 25 years ago.
Star Quality by who_la_hoop (E, 118k)
Two years after the war, and Harry’s content with his life. OK, so it’s a little annoying that he keeps winning Witch Weekly’s Most Eligible Bachelor award, and he’s really not looking forward to the unveiling of an enormous gold statue of himself, but he loves his friends, and he loves being an Auror. And if he yearns for something more, something he can barely bring himself to think about, well, he’ll probably get over it. No one’s happy all the time, are they?
Things Worth Knowing by Femme and noeon (E, 164k)
After the Battle, Harry thinks he's left Hogwarts for good, but Minerva insists that all students return for an Eighth Year if they wish to sit for NEWTs in the spring, and Harry needs those NEWTs to go into the Aurors. Draco's just grateful not to be in Azkaban. Or the Manor. He's hoping he can steer clear of Potter this year and grapple with his own problems. Unfortunately for him, Potter appears to be one of those problems.

Hermione Granger is dead.
Killed by the chandelier after it fell on her after being tortured and the rescue of Harry and Ron by Dobby at Malfoy Manor.
Or so the Order believes.
She is very much alive, and safe, in the closed off east wing of the manor after being saved by Narcissa and Draco, who have offered her protection in exchange for Draco training her in mind magic so they can finally end this horrible war.
Hermione is initially reluctant at first, because who the hell wants their childhood bully to have access to their mind? She gives in though after realizing that this is their best chance if they both work together and trust each other. Hermione soon learns Draco is extremely lonely. He's also surprisingly witty and can be kind to those he cares for. They quickly form a bond that transcends friendship, as their training sessions become more intimate.
This isn't one of my best summaries, because good gods there is so much going on in this story. We've got Draco using Hermione's wand, and not only does it accept him as its new master, but it also has a mind of its own. We've got Mother Malfoy rooting for the unlikely pair, an epic love story that Draco stumbles upon that reminds him too much of his and Hermione's love, supportive Harry and Ron, redeemed Snape, and a surprisingly not-too-much-of-an-asshole Lucius.
And of course, we have an extremely protective and possessive Draco. He tries to fight his feelings for Hermione, but soon realizes there is no point. Because what a Malfoy man wants, a Malfoy man always gets. He is a dragon, after all. And he has finally found his greatest and most precious treasure. And fire will reign down on any who dare to harm her.

❤️, 🖤 & 🤍 for the ask game!
I don't see a red heart. I do see this one though (💔) but that's answered in a previous ask so I'll ignore it.
🖤: Which character is not as morally good as everyone else seems to think?
I'm going to go with Harry Potter. Listen, there is a "Harry Potter is a terrible person" corner of the fandom but I'm not in that corner personally (though I 100% support everyone's right to their own interpretations). I do think though that Harry is a flawed person and also someone who is capable of being very deadly when he has to be and making tough calls. I feel like he often gets flattened into this hyper pure heroic archetype who could never do anything morally grey and just is unrealistically idealistic to a fault. This often goes with characterizing him as really stupid and oblivious which is not supported by canon imho and also is just so much less interesting than the dynamic character that Harry actually is.
I also think it's super interesting because this also happens to Harry in universe too. Lupin chides him over wanting to disarm Stan Shunpike rather than risk killing him and acts as though Harry is being overly squeamish about the realities of warfare and of hurting people due to being so Good and Pure TM. This is not the case. Harry is willing to take great risks to do the right thing and to save others. But he's also capable of being pragmatic. Harry was perfectly willing to shoot stunners at other Death Eaters in that scene even though he believed that could be fatal to them. He wasn't willing to do the same with Stan because he believed (probably wrongly but that's another meta post) that Stan was a victim. It was for that reason that Harry was willing to risk using nonlethal force.
In book 1 he straight up killed Quirrel. In book 2 he forced Lockhart to go into the Chamber first, putting him in a situation where me might be killed by a giant deadly snake. He also was willing to kill Diary!Riddle in self defense and didn't flinch at it. He didn't hold back with the Death Eaters in book 5 and it was Hermione, not Harry, who objected to cursing the one whose head had been de-aged to a baby. In book 7 he goes into a duel with Voldemort with the intent to kill him. He is perfectly capable of being deadly and making tough calls.
He's also perfectly able to go against what is expected of him if he doesn't agree with it. He refused to harm Stan because he believed it was wrong. He seemingly refused to incriminate Draco in book 6 (both when he didn't report him for trying to use an Unforgivable and when he seemingly only testified to MLE about Snape's role in Dumbledore's death) because he felt there were extenuating circumstances (plus he can never make himself hate Draco *cough* drarry *cough*).
He also frequently uses lies and trickery and misdirection to achieve his goals - ranging from escaping life threatening situations to trying to avoid conversations he doesn't want to have.
And that's not even getting into Harry's tendency to make snap, sometimes unfair judgements about people and to ignore the flaws of people he likes (two flaws that he improves during the later books in the series, especially book 7) and his sometimes vicious anger. These are realistic and interesting character flaws. But they are real flaws. And I think a lot of fanon tends to forget about them, which is a shame.
However, this is not to say that Harry is a bad person or incapable of making morally courageous or empathetic decisions. Which leads me to...
🤍: Which character is not as morally bad as everyone else seems to think?
Once again I'm going to go with...Harry Potter. Because on the flip side there's a corner of fandom that I think takes an overly dim view of Harry (though of course, to each their own).
Because yes Harry is absolutely a flawed person. But he's also the person who put his escape at risk in book 7 so he could rescue the Muggleborns who were on trial, who couldn't even properly use the Cruciatus Curse on Bellatrix right after he'd seen her kill Sirius (which is why I think the cavalier way it's framed when he uses it in book 7 feels super ooc and weird to me - I have sooo many thoughts on that scene but that's another meta), said he wanted to kill Sirius to avenge his parents but then couldn't kill or even hurt him when he had him at his mercy, said he wanted to kill Snape to avenge Dumbledore but then didn't even enjoy watching him die despite all their history, was so horrified by the flayed soul he saw in "King's Cross" that he genuinely made an effort to redeem Voldemort (offering him more compassion after everything he'd done then Dumbledore did at any point, even when Tom was a child - which says a lot about Harry as well as about Dumbledore), who wasn't even friends with Neville in first year but immediately confronted Draco about taking the Remembrall, who noticed right away that Ron was uncomfortable about his financial situation and set him at ease by telling him about always having to wear second hand clothes and then offered to share all the food he'd bought with him, who felt jealous and hurt when Ron was made Prefect instead of him but controlled that feeling and refused to let it rule him or to take it out on Ron, who refused to take the Triwizard Cup for himself because it didn't feel fair (unfortunately not the best call in retrospect), who was disgusted by the bullying tactics of Dudley's gang, who frequently made efforts to bolster Ron's confidence when he could see he was down or feeling insecure, who threw his entire body at a Death Eater to stop him hurting Hermione in book 5, who did everything he could to try to keep Sirius safe and his spirits up in book 5, who always gave his friends really thoughtful gifts that they liked a lot because he was able to pay close attention to their interests even when he didn't share them and so many more moments.

unpopular opinion: reading the books doesn't matter for jegulus because they're practically OCs. they are fanon drarry except reg is less problematic than draco because he got a small redemption arc and people can project whatever they want on him and make up his personality.
Strongly disagree to every single aspect.
First of all, James Potter is not an OC. He definitely has a canon characterization, both on his own and through the eyes of Remus and Sirius. Regulus doesn’t have a canon characterization per se but has canon characteristics. You also cannot write them without Sirius, who has a strong canon characterization. If you want to make up personalities, write OCs or small characters that don’t actually have any characterization (e.g., Evan Rosier, Dorcas Meadows).
Second, Jegulus and Drarry are not similar and saying that they are is a sign of why an understanding of canon is needed. I’m not even going to touch the problematic comment (LMAO) but not every enemies to lovers ship is the same? In this line of thinking Dramione is also the same? Drinny? Dron? Lucius/Hermione???
A relationship between James and Regulus is fundamentally shaped by Sirius. Best friends brother is a defining characteristic for them. The fact that James is how Sirius got out if crucial. They’re also more or less in a similar position as two rich, priviledged purebloods. James chooses to fight for whats right, Regulus conforms until the very end. In which he deflects because Kreacher is hurt. But he has that spark, look at the wording of his letter, so putting him with James is compelling because he can fan his flames.
Harry and Draco don’t have someone as formative as Sirius to their dynamic. They are the “different side of the same coin”, both of them are child soldiers indoctrinated and martyred to a cause they’re not wholly informed on. Their dynamic is built on the resentment of Draco’s broken fantasy of a friendship Harry rejects. They’re obsessed with each other, they can never ignore each other. They actively hate each other. They’re the person that draws the most emotion from the other to such a point that sectumsempra happens. But they also cannot let the other go. They are defined by their exchanges of lifedebts. Draco not identifying Harry at the manor, Harry rescuing him from the Fiendfyre, Narcissa saving Harry to get to Draco…
These are vital to their dynamic and none of these apply to James and Regulus. You don’t even know if there was hate between them. Sirius himself spoke of Regulus with disappointment, not hate.
So yeah, if you want to interact with these characters you need the nuance of canon. You can write them differently but you still need to be informed on who they are. They are not OCs and acting like they have no canon characterization is resulting in hollow, cardboard cut copy characters that neither fit together nor in the narrative.

Hi !
First, so so many thanks for your Lionheart's work, this fic is so amazing I consider it like the new HP headcannon. I was particulary fascinated by your portraying of the Weasleys parents, it makes much more sense to writing them as universal loving parenting figures and I find it helps keeping the world you rebuild for the best very well balanced. Well, truth be told, so many things are great in your work I can not quote all of them but great, great story (so far of course but I have no doubt the future chapters will be delicious to discover), beautiful writing, amazing references (both to 19th literature and the 90's), and of course great romance (ahrfff the angst !).
Now, to my question (I apologize if it already has been requested) : we never learned, after the end of 3rd book, what Draco told Hermione and the boys about his patronus or how it saved them from the dementors. I guess he didn't tell them the truth about its form (because then, his love for Hermione would not have been submitted to any doubt, would it not ?) but I've been very curious to know if he told them nothing of the rescue, or just it was a non-corporeal patronus, or even if he lied about its form. And of course I'm very anxious to read the moment where Hermione's gonna learn about it !
Thanks so much for your response and once again, your work, and all the best for you !
Hello! First, thank you for such a kind comment! It touched me and completely made my morning.
Second: the others know that Draco can conjure a Patronus, and that he successfully did so to save himself and Hermione after their confrontation with Wormtail (the train home is, as always, a wonderful opportunity for a hearty post-adventure debrief). However, you're quite right to point out that Draco has not since conjured a Patronus in front of anyone, nor has he disclosed to the others what its form is.

Bleak Winter / LadyMorphia AO3

…
“There’s only one offering that Krampus will accept. It can free both of us as well as Teddy,” he explained, his tone soft yet menacing. “The essence of sweat and souls.”
Hermione almost laughed, but thought better of it when she noticed the intense manner in which he was studying her.
“Sweat and souls?” she questioned, her voice wavering now.
“Sex, Granger,” Malfoy replied coldly. “We need to f*ck.”

HD Magical lore fic recs
Here are a few drarry fic recs involving magical lore. Listed in alphabetical order, as always.
Annus Mirabilis by Ren [39k]
Harry and Malfoy are trapped at Hogwarts around the time the school was founded. Stuck with a different way of doing magic, with no chocolate, and with each other, they have to find a way to work together if they want a chance to go home.
Any Instrument by @dictacontrion [131k]
Draco Malfoy wouldn’t go back to England for anything less than an exceptional case. Being asked to figure out why Harry Potter can’t control his magic might be exceptional enough to qualify.
Azoth by @lol-zeitgeistic [88k]
Now that Harry is back at Hogwarts with Hermione for eighth year, he realises that something’s missing from his life, and it either has to do with Ron, his boggart, Snape, or Malfoy. Furthermore, what, exactly, does it mean when one’s life is defined by the desire to simultaneously impress and annoy a portrait? Harry has no idea; he’s too busy trying not to be in love with Malfoy to care.
Black, in the Smothering Dark by @lol-zeitgeistic [101k]
Harry Potter is rescued from the Dursleys and spends the summer with his god…father? This is the prequel to The Hush of War. Beta’d by giesha_kitten/laureen.
The Hush of War by @lol-zeitgeistic [351k]
Voldemort has made a bargain with Harry to stop killing muggles and muggle-borns (when at all possible, of course) in exchange for Harry’s cooperation. While Harry thinks he’s using the time to find a way to defeat the Dark Lord, he will realize that Voldemort is always one step ahead, and so long as he isn’t killing anyone…what’s the big deal? He has bigger things to worry about now, anyway. Includes dementors, pureblood culture, the prophecy, what exactly happened with Lily’s sacrifice, magical breakthroughs, children Death Eaters, and portraits of family. Final pairing: H/D. Sequel to Black, in the Smothering Dark.
Connecting Lines, Connecting Crimes by sleepstxtic [15k]
Magic is going haywire after ley lines all over the world are mysteriously failing. A cross-border Task Force is set up by the League of Wixen Nations with Expert Cartologist Draco Malfoy and Ley Line Specialist Pansy Parkinson being called in from Britain to work with Magi-Geographers Harry Potter and Parvati Patil in India. But can they get to the root of the issue before it’s too late? Featuring: an excessive use of holograms, numerous references to food, and lots and lots (and lots!) of travel.
Golden Age by @lol-zeitgeistic [52k]
The Celtic druids once made a decision that kept magic in abundance in Britannia, but they couldn’t account for the technological advances Muggles would make centuries later. Now magic is dying on the isles, and this is not a dark lord that Harry can fight. OR: Harry Potter doesn’t save the world this time, but he does get a lot of hugs.
The Inner Lands by Lomonaaeren [19k]
Venturing inside the Veil is no easy thing for anyone — except Harry Potter, the Master of Death. And when it becomes too easy, when Potter disappears in search of his godfather, then it becomes the responsibility of Unspeakable Draco Malfoy to bring him back out.
Life On Mars by @fencer-x [110k]
Harry Potter was eleven years old when he found out he was a wizard. He was twenty-one when he found out he was an alien. Or: How Harry Potter learned to stop worrying and love the democratic process.
Manticoria by @lol-zeitgeistic [70k]
In the dangerous days after Voldemort’s fall, Harry struggles to find a way to be with Draco—again. But as the magical world threatens to die all around them, it might be more difficult than he thought. Includes dying wards, dying beasts, and love struggling to live; sentient magic, wandlore, Founder lore, potion lore, and ward lore; and of course there is Zacharias Smith to ruin everything, as usual.
Of Wands and Trees by Omi_Ohmy [45k]
All Draco wants to do is be a wandmaker, but to do so he needs to understand the soul of trees. Of course, the only man who might be able to help him is the one man who is more of a mystery to him than any tree.
Shibboleths by @lol-zeitgeistic [109k]
Muggle Immersion co-Professor Harry Potter spends his days hanging with his son, reading to his “dog,” teaching magical kids about the internet with his cousin Dudley, and irritating Snape’s portrait. He’s understandably annoyed when his cosy life is interrupted by the Headmistress hiring on Draco Malfoy to be Hogwarts’ new Ancient Magical Cultures and Spellcasting professor. But then the explosion happens, and it turns out they’ll all need Malfoy’s knowledge if they want the magical world to survive.
Squib by Kestrel_Sparhawk [52k]
Harry has a respectable life: devoted to his family, teacher to the least-talented of the Wizarding community, retired hero. The Prophet hasn’t caught on to a few things, such as the fact that Harry is gay. He and Ginny want to keep it that way. It’s not a great life, but it’s his – until one day, an old school rival comes by to investigate his class. Suddenly, Harry’s life is no longer predictable.
Survival of the Species by @romaine2424 [46k]
Draco approaches Harry on the 9 ž platform, after their sons have boarded the Hogwarts Express, and invites him over for tea.  The discussion they have leads them on an adventure that neither could have expected. There be dragons! HPDH compliant.
The Taste of Magic by @romaine2424 [10k]
Sometimes magic isn’t enough.
To have a Home by Aulophobia [126k]
Not quite a decade after the war, Draco Malfoy was happy with his quiet little Muggle life in Oxford. He had a small group of friends from the university he’d attended, and colleagues from the law firm where he worked as a solicitor. He played folk music on his violin around the city. And he volunteered to provide legal services getting mostly idiot teenagers out of trouble with the law. His life was full. He had no contact with the magical world, and all was the way he liked it. And the feeling of emptiness in his chest, the feeling some part of him was missing, was at least better than the alternative. Or at least it was until the last few months when he kept getting called down to the police station to get Harry Potter out of trouble. Indecent exposure and possession was one thing, but the latest charge was for murder. OR Harry and Draco find each other again after the war in Oxford, a completely non-magical city. Together they solve the mystery of the city which hates all wizards but them.
Two Wands Make a Right by dannyfranx [21k]
Harry’s wand is playing up and Hermione thinks she knows the answer, but why does she have to be right all the time, why does Draco Malfoy have to be so god damn difficult and why is he wearing his tie backwards?
Waiting For A Song by @korlaena [49k]
After a couple years spent avoiding Draco in the Auror Department, Harry gets assigned to one of Draco’s strange cases. They investigate the mysterious disappearances of a witch and wizard, but in their search for the missing persons they find a lot more than they were looking for.
I hope you enjoy these stories as much as I did!

Vitae Redux / Book 1: Horcruxes
Chapter 23
“You saved her!” Mrs Weasley cried, and Tom felt the warmth of her tears sinking into his hair, just as Harry’s had fallen against his face in the Chamber. “You saved her! How did you do it?”
“I think, Molly,” Snape said flatly, “that we would all like the answer to that.”
Mrs Weasley finally – finally – released them, and Dumbledore conjured a comfortable sofa for the Tom, Harry, and Ginny to sit upon while Mr and Mrs Weasley took their seats in the hard-backed chairs in front of Snape’s desk. Ginny attached herself to Harry’s side as they sat, but Tom still found he didn’t mind, Harry’s hand warm and vibrant in his own.
“It was Tom,” Harry finally said. “Well, it was all of us really – Ron, Hermione – Draco and Pansy – we had a general idea of where the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets might be, but in the end, it was Tom who found it.”
Harry launched into the story, Tom helping him at times, explaining how the attacks seemed to centre around that one corridor, the days and weeks spent combing through every room only to come up empty handed, those final moments when Tom had revealed he had found the entrance. Tom took over then, crafting a story about returning to the hunt not long after Hermione had been petrified, searching every inch of the bathroom until he finally found the spot that concealed the entryway. He even looked Dumbledore dead in the eye, keeping his memories shallow, as he described the feeling of unease he had felt upon McGonagall’s announcement, the urgency he had experienced to rescue Ginny Weasley from the Chamber. By the gentle smile and open gaze Dumbledore gave him, he knew his Occlusion had worked – the old man had entirely missed his terror at the possible resurrection of Lord Voldemort, seeing only a child who wanted, desperately, to keep his classmates safe.
And maybe – just maybe – there was a kernel of truth to that fabrication.
“This is all very fine and well,” Snape said, when Tom had finished, “aside from the fact that the two of you – the six of you, rather – have broken dozens of school rules: breaking into empty classrooms, boys in the girls’ bathroom, leaving your dormitories during a school-wide emergency. However, you have yet to explain exactly who abducted Ginevra Weasley, not to mention how it is you managed to survive.”
Tom hesitated – he had expected this was going to come up. He reluctantly pulled his diary from his pocket and placed it on Snape’s desk, from where Dumbledore gingerly picked it up and flipped open the front cover, examining the first few pages.
“Tom,” he said, after several long moments, “I have told the Weasleys that you are as in grave danger as Harry when it comes to Voldemort, but as I believe it is generally at your discretion to reveal, I have not explained why. Do you mind if they are told what exactly has happened to their daughter?”
“No,” Tom replied, the bitterness at having to reveal one of his Horcruxes fading somewhat at Dumbledore’s earnest tone. It was mildly infuriating, however – Dumbledore had never afforded him such clemency in his previous life. “That diary belonged to my father,” he said slowly. “He apparently managed to preserve a memory of himself inside of it.”
“A memory strong enough to possess Miss Weasley, to drive her to open the Chamber of Secrets and set loose the monster within it.” Mrs Weasley gasped in fear at Dumbledore’s words. “The memory of Tom Riddle – the first, that is – a brilliant student, probably the most brilliant Hogwarts has ever seen, save for his son, I think.” Tom tried not to scowl as Dumbledore looked down at him with a glimmer in his eye. “There are very few now who remember the boy he was before leaving Hogwarts. There are even fewer who connect him to the man he became – Lord Voldemort.”
“But – but Ginny – how?!” Mr Weasley sputtered.
Beside Tom, beside Harry, Ginny began to sob anew. “His d-diary! I’ve b-been writing in it, and he’s been w-writing back all year – I didn’t know. He t-told me he was just like a talking portrait!”
“Ginny!” Mr Weasley said. “Haven’t I always told you? Never trust anything that can think for itself if you can’t see where it keeps its brain? Why didn’t you –”
Dumbledore raised his hand.
“Arthur, if you will, I would ask you not to ascribe any blame to your daughter,” he said calmly. “After all, she has grown up with portraits, mirrors, and other talking objects that would otherwise be inanimate. And, as we all know, far older and wiser wizards have been swayed by Lord Voldemort.” Dumbledore paused. “Now… as to what happened in the Chamber…”
“Voldemort came out of the diary,” Harry cut in. “Honestly, I thought it was Tom still talking to me at first – but he was older… and he was cruel. He was trying to use Ginny’s soul to come back to life, and I think he would’ve succeeded if I hadn’t gotten her out of the Chamber.”
Tom’s heart stuttered at Dumbledore’s sharp intake of breath. “Harry,” he said quietly, “do you mean to say that Voldemort managed to obtain a corporeal form?”
“Corporeal?” Harry echoed.
“He means ‘solid,’” Tom explained, squeezing his hand. Harry gave him an odd, searching look.

Thank you for your good work! My Marked for Later list is bottomless thanks in large part to the recs and lists you write and share!
Do you have any drarry recs where Hermione and Ron are characters but are not in a relationship together? I read Nights with You a while back, and one of the many features of that story that stuck with me was how those two were characterized. Would love to read more that shakes up the common dynamic of Ron/Hermione as a background ship.
Hello friend! You’re most welcome, and I’m delighted to know that you appreciate the rec lists so much ❤️ here are some recs featuring Ron and Hermione with other people, I highly recommend checking zeitgeistic’s works!
Steal/Keep by shealwaysreads, babooshk_art (E, 4k)
The stealing was all Hermione’s idea, though Harry still doesn’t think anyone would believe him if he told them.
Have Your Cake and Eat It, Too by peachpety (E, 4k)
Harry Potter loves his birthday… until he doesn’t. All it takes is a miserable slice of jealousy, sprinkled with an unfortunate slip of the tongue, and doused with a heavy dollop of pining to turn Harry sour. Fortunately for him, Draco Malfoy is there to sweeten the day.
Harry Potter and the Invasion of the Slytherins by cavendishbutterfly (T, 6k)
Harry just wanted to bake in peace. He didn't ask for Pansy to invade his friend group with her sheer willpower and Slytherin co-conspirators. But before he knows it, the Slytherins have regular access to his Floo. And then Draco Malfoy starts hanging around while Harry whips up endless birthday cakes and baked concoctions.
Dick Chicken by oknowkiss (E, 14k) - Dronarry
This is a story about nothing.
But, In Dreams by kedavranox (M, 24k)
Harry is a Seer, with a particular affinity for speaking to the dead, but this comes at a price he’s slowly killing himself to pay.
Lover, Where Do You Live? by dodgerkedavra (E, 38k)
Harry Potter has been running away since the War, disappearing into his job as a freelance curse-breaker. Work is his life. Home doesn't exist. He's about to disappear again when he runs into Death Eater-turned-Healer Draco Malfoy.
Bite Me, Hate Memes by pir8fancier (E, 44k)
Draco Malfoy is incensed to realize that someone is trying to usurp his position as the premier Harry Potter hater.
Golden Age by zeitgeistic (M, 52k)
The Celtic druids once made a decision that kept magic in abundance in Britannia, but they couldn’t account for the technological advances Muggles would make centuries later. Worth It
Tumblr media
Hermione watched as Pansy sat up straighter in her seat and smiled for the cameras. She looked every inch the famous TV personality.
In contrast, Draco was pale and withdrawn. He had dark circles under his eyes and for the entire interview, he hadn’t smiled once. He’d spent most of it glaring at Narcissa, waiting offscreen.
Pansy continued, “Now that we’ve finished the introductions, how can we help?” She leaned forward and wrapped her fingers around Draco’s leg. “What are your symptoms?”
Draco glared at her but did not move away. Drawing himself up he raised his hand to brush back his hair. The tremor was instantly noticeable.
When he realised, he slammed it back down into his lap and held it, prisoner, with his other hand.
His jaw was tight and the words passed his lips like they were coals. “I have a tremor -” He huffed reluctantly, - “and chronic fatigue. It means I have to make choices. Walk downstairs for breakfast or apparate just to save energy? Magic is no longer easy.”
Narcissa cleared her throat and Draco clenched his jaw even harder before continuing. “I also have seizures. It means.-” He looked out the window and dragged in a breath. “I can’t fly anymore. If I have a seizure in the air.” He gave out a bitter laugh. “Well, I’m sure you can figure out the consequences.”
Pansy’s face was plastered with sympathy. “I understand. We’re here to help.” She turned to the camera with a huge smile. “Are we ready to turn this house into a home?”
Hermione cheered but all she could see were Draco’s hands continually shaking in her head.
Tumblr media
It was Hermione’s job to fix the houses. To help change lives for the better. The cameras were the price she paid. Still, Draco resisted, like a rescue dog trying to bite the hand that fed him.
When she held out the broom, he looked at her like she was insane.
She spoke softly, “Our job here isn’t just renovating your house, Draco.”
She turned it over to show him the adjustments. “Hold this button down with your thumb and then press the other button once. It turns the broom into a type of portkey. The moment you let go of the thumb button you will be transported safely to your bedroom.”
He jerked his head up to look at her with wide eyes. She pushed the broom into his hands. “Go on.”
He warily swung his leg up and over, pressing the buttons as instructed. The next moment he was speeding so fast over the grounds all she could make out was the platinum blond of his hair.
When he came back, he was flushed, a huge smile plastered on his face.
It warmed something deep inside her.
The camera’s darted toward him and he grimaced. “I’m going to be wrecked now.”
“But was it worth it?”
He looked at her, his breath catching, and his eyes said everything he couldn’t. “Yes.”
Tumblr media
We're in week 5 and the theme was reality TV. As you can probably tell I have a huge weakness for home improvement shows. This is also the week where I went fuck the popular vote and just wrote something that I really felt strongly about. So this is what we got. I hope you liked it!
