@masqce for Jin Guangyao for a post event starter
Lan Xichen had just finished a small little performance in the park, courtesy of the National Symphony Orchestra. Well. . .someone of them. It was more of an impromptu thing to bring some life into everything that happened. He glanced around at the face that seemed happy. All except one that is. Xichen is drawn to that one so after doing the polite thank you for listening he made his way to Guangyao. "Did you like the performance ? It wasn't fully planned, I will admit, but it a nice surprise for everyone"

Okay.. . that makes sense. Xichen is still determining if he believes it, but it would make sense. "While it sounds a bit unbelievable, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to check what you are saying." It wouldn't be Xichen if he didn't investigate in order to help and appease the other.
"by the time you all woke up, things were nearly finished, it's unlikely you would have seen it unless you went looking." he explains, hoping his brother will actually look into it. xichen is usually one he can trust with that sort of thing, so there's at least some hope.

1. i hope it's okay to resend an ask from 3 years ago? 😅
(it's #2 on the first 'fics still missing'. there's a rec however i think that fic/the relevant scene was posted AFTER i sent the ask on may 2021 so it's probably not it, and i do not think it's 300k 😲 long!)
the only thing i still remember is that wen qing does a surgery to bring back wei wuxian's core, and the new core is from a wen prisoner who is set to be executed. the prisoner turns out to be wen yuan's bio dad, and he's willing.
i think there's another core surgery but as punishment? i may be mixing up fics since it's been a long time.
many thanks!!! @danmeireader

Might be worth checking it out as even if it's not the right one it's a good story

2. Hello! I am searching for one fic i read it was WIP i guess, in one particular scene there was sparing practice in cloud recesses school days, where someone tries to stab WWX but Jin Zixuan takes the blow near heart.. when Wen Qing with other healers arrive they find WWX's blood is compatible with Jin Zixuan that's how they become sworn brother with Nei Huisang too. idk but there was some other invention to secure swon brotherhood shared with JZX in front of JGS

3. Hello!
I'm looking for a fic where wwx became jyl's personal healer and where he meets lwj at her wedding with lan xichen, when lwj accidently gets an approdisiac meant for the groom (to cause an incident???), so wwx has to help him out in his professional role and of course to save his shijie's wedding.

6. Hello! For fic finder, please! I am looking for a fic where instead of giving JC his own core, WWX knocks out a random Wen soldier and they use that guy’s core for the transfer. 7. Hi, thank you so much for all your hard work!!
I'm looking for two fics:
A) I think this one might have appeared in your blog and that's how I learned about it the first time. Modern AU Wangxian where they're retired/considering retiring figure skaters, and the fic is a series of them trying to have sex but something going wrong. At the end LWJ breaks/hurts his ankle really badly on the way to a cabin to have sex in Olympics gear, and then they get married.
B) WWX comes back in a random cultivator's body while LWJ is recovering from the discipline whip, and he sneaks into the Cloud Recesses to learn about A-Yuan. I think the cultivator gave his body up to WWX to punish him, and the curse mark on his arm becomes activated when he's happy, and it activates so badly it nearly cuts his arm off.
Thank you!

8. Hello! For the next Fic Finder, I'm looking for a modern AU, rated either Mature or Explicit, where Wei Ying and Lan Zhan end up stranded in a ski resort. It's just them, no one else. 12. Hello,
I'm looking for a fic that I read ages ago, but don't remember what website it was on. It had both wangxian and xicheng in it. So Lan Wangji and Lan Xichen reached immortality and now they are living in present time where everyone has reincarnated. Lan Wangji has custody of Lan Sizhui and I think Lan Jingyi as well but not sure about the latter part. Both of them attend high school where Wei Wuxian is a teacher (I think he just transferred to the school but am not sure). Jin Ling also attends school with them. Jiang Cheng takes care of him and he is a policeman. He does not talk to Wei Wuxian as he blames him for their sister death/bad medical state. I don't remember exactly which one it was. I also remember that Nie Mingjue is Jiang Cheng boss, Nie Huisang and Jing Guangyao are in the actor/entertainment business and Wen Ruohan is a villain in there @kyjrd

13. Hello! I'm looking for match-making fic where Jin Zixuan (tired of wwx constantly interrupting family time with his wife and newly born son) decides the best way to get him out of the way is to matchmake him with someone. I think he tries Nie Mingjue mainly, because they have similar interests, etc.
Jiang Cheng also gets roped in, but he thinks Jin Zixuan is nuts the whole time. NMJ thinks Wei wuxian is definitely flirting with him at some point because his muscles get complimented? Lan Xichen has to reassure him that "no, he is just like that".
It's a comedy of errors mainly, because LWJ and WWX definitely have something going on between them, and it ends with them running off with horses to elope into the sunset or smth. Jiang Yanli doesn't know her husband's matchmaking scheme, but she does know about wwx and lwj and helps them elope at the end.
Pretty sure it was a short fic, ignores canon and occurs in a what-if scenario where the whole burial mounds situation didn't happen.
I'd be very grateful of you could help me find this! Thank you 😊 @indelibleme

16. Hiya, I'm wracking my brains trying tonfind a fic. The only part I really remember is that to rebuild their library's collection, Gusu Lan reached out to other sects, asking for texts to copy. I think the Jiang weren't originally for it (whether it was Jiang Cheng or Madam Yu and Jiang Fengmian vetoing it I can't remember), but Wei Wuxian tried to help. I think maybe Lan Wangji paid a visit to Lotus Pier, but again, I'm not sure.

17. Hello! I am looking for a specific fic that I have lost. It was a canon-divergent fic. In it Wei Wuxian ties decorative knots as something to keep his hands occupied while his mind runs. I think it was set primarily during the Yiling settlement days, because I remember he had a room/small house/workspace which had knots hung all over the walls. Although, my brain is also saying that this could have been a “WWX grows up on Baoshan Sanren’s mountain” au and his room could have been there. The knots are the unique detail I remember. Any clue? MDZS AU idea!
It’d be bittersweet if post canon after some time passes WWX gets welcomed into the lan clan properly. Like, they start actually treating him like family and he has no fucking clue how to handle this development or process it because his place in “family” has almost always been ambiguous.
it’s never really clear where he stands with the jiangs and I’m 90% sure that’s intentional. Meanwhile, although the wens clearly love him in a familial sense, he was also their protector from everyone who wanted to kill them which also makes his place weird. It’s also possible that he never processed that that’s what an actual family is like.
So imagine someone with next to no proper concept of family suddenly being welcomed into a clan that tends to be so protective of each other that it can actually backfire from being good into being concerningly bad. Meanwhile Lan Qiren and Lan Xichen are both kind of having mental breakdowns because what do you mean he had little to no parental guidance??? What do you mean he was practically a scapegoat for the Jiang sect??? (They both fight the urge to desecrate a certain clan leader and wife’s graves…) at the same time so many things start to click into place. (Lan Qiren may or may not start feeling some guilt in regards to how he treated WWX when he first met him) Lan Qiren tells WWX a few stories about his parents, what they were like, what they looked like, their history, etc. they start to get incredibly protective of him while Wwx has No Clue how to react. Meanwhile LWJ just holds his husband close in his confusion because this man needs to adjust to people caring about him.
Later they end up interrogating Jiang Cheng about their childhood in lotus pier for confirmation (because wwx has a weird memory and 100% does not remember all the horrible things that happened) and once what Wwx said was more than confirmed nothing overt happens but behind the scenes they get very protective and make an effort to to include him a little more.

Lan Xichen chuckled. "I do like being home from time to time, but I mostly leave, meet others, explore what i can." This isn't like home so he wants to at least try and learn what he can after getting out of. . .the funk if you will
"Which is all well and nice sometimes, but only when I actually want to paint." Huaisang said, eyes moving back and forth between the man and his canvas as he continued to add to his piece. "Otherwise it's just boring, unless you aren't the social type I guess." He tilted his head, examining Xichen blatantly. "You don't seem like too much of a homebody, put together, but not in an antisocial way."

I gotta say the callous attitudes of the Peaklord to go behind SQQ back to discuss his qi deviation and theorizing maybe Possession took place and when that became clear it was not they just did not continue to look further because they like the pretty outer shell of nice SQQ because then it would make them ask what make their shixiong so prickly and what his issues were that maybe it ran deep because how else is he so different otherwise?
No one thinks of: what if this SQQ wishes to remember? I read once in a fic, and I found it very just, a Lan Zhan amnesiac who says that even if it were painful experiences (33 lashes and 13 years of mourning) they were part of him, that they were dear to him even if painful.
I think that even if SJ hated to have lived what he lived, he did not want to forget he did not want to forget Qi-ge, his fiancée, the courtesans of the brothel, all the women who were nice to him,… or his life, who he is. And who he is with unpleasant experiences: rapes without doubt, abuse, a life without a parent, a feeling of abandonment, the fact that he never felt at home in Qing Jing, that he was not loved by his martial brothers and sisters, betrayal ... and also with things he did.
it's not something they have to decide. If SY were SJ it would be up to SY and SY alone to decide if "something must be done" and if He have to “stay that way.”
I also think that although the peak lords may be right to not appreciate SJ, they never tried to get along with him either. I always found LQG to be very contemptuous without knowing (like all peak lords)
Like it sucks cause they should have talked with him in person your memories what youve gone through as a person and when it comes to his trauma all the girls he put his head down for a nice nap, Qiu Hatiang, Yue Qingyuan "betrayal" all the shit that went down makes him who he is as Shen jiu. They don't talk to him and ask if he wants to look deeper into his memories like they disregard their martial brother who I get they dislike but it makes them scummier in my eyes because wtf they barley even tried ?
Like if it were any of the Peaklords take LQG for instance they would have tried their hardest to get his memories but because their SQQ is more presentable and make them feel more comfortble is disgusting cause they disregard his autonomy.
Who we are is made up of our memories and how our past experiences have led to the development of our beliefs, our coping mechanisms, our very personalities. Without his memories, is SJ even SJ anymore? They may prefer the blank slate, but it requires no self examination for them. They do not have to think deeper like you have about why SJ is who he is, what terrible past he has that makes the reader more forgiving and understanding of his faults. If they did think about that, they would have to do something, wouldn’t they?
Hell, If Yue Qingyuan and SJ were reversed are any of us going to be suprised at the lengths he'll try to go to get his Qi-ge' back as readers but YQ who cares for SJ but lack of a backbone in not trying to recover his memories and not trying is just... irksome. SJ being more all or nothing guy compared to YQ who basically just a water down version of MDSZ Lan Xichen who basically did nothing to his benefit really says something. He's not kind he's a diplomat a politician he's polite is what he is.
YQ character would be much more attractive to me if his indecisiveness just never existed lol. I hate mopy characters so damn much and with a postions as sect leader had he been more firm and not let his shidi do whatever 99% of the things that happened never would have occured. There's only so much you can blame on miscommunication when it actively hurted and harmed the other party. He saw what it did to his shidi and he just did nothing about it right up to his foolish sucide attempt to save his Xiao at the last minute when his legs got sent to him. Wonder wtf he was doing then filing paperwork lol?

Since I have been rambling here a lot I will also ramble about my dear mdzs children
So these four are made because I joked about populating the female species in MDZS and then I made more...
Disclaimer: I am not Chinese so these names are very much like when Anime grabs random names for English characters. They don't make sense.
First RongQuan
I completely forgot what Chinese characters I grabbed for her name (something that means melting, I think?
The design idea for her is that of a simple looking woman
She became a disciple because she wanted to and her father loves her very much he used his family ties to get her in. Upon entering, it became very clear that he has absolutely no talent for cultivation. This, and the well known fact that she's here because nepotism, made her the subject of many disciples' teasing. To compensate for her lack of talent she became a push over, doing many menial tasks to contribute to the sect. She's too tired to feel mad about the treatment most of the time.
Post-canon:
She's doing the same thing she's always done. Her mother fears that being involved with a sect riddled with so much scandal might ruin her marriage prospects. She thought about agreeing with her mother for a solid minute but ultimately decided that if men can't handle being involved with her as a Jin disciple, they can't handle her at all and politely rejected to do as her mother asked.
Lan FeiRi
I also completely forgot what her name's Chinese characters are. (One of them is the character for sun, I think)
Her design idea is that of a fairy, I tried to make her hair have the silhouette of a butterfly for this. It's also why I chose something that would spell FeiRi lol
She is a child orphaned by a demonic cultivator and adopted by a Lan couple. She cultivated a little late so her cultivation isn't as good as it could've been but she's average on power, overall. She exudes nearly the same tranquil energy as Lan XiChen. This is just a facade though, she absolutely loves it when people she deems evil get the justice she thinks they deserve, she can be sadistic. The ultimate two-faced individual, she could be smiling on the outside but seething on the inside, caring on the outside but laughing out in joy over others' suffering on the inside.
Post canon:
She absolutely hates that the grandmaster of demonic cultivation is living just a few minutes away.
(she has one of my favorite designs among the mdzs ocs I made)
Nie QiaoLu
Again, I forgot what her name means.
I designed her last. I didn't know if my designs are outrageous already so this is me dialing back down. But she looked too simple with straight hair so I made it wavy.
She is the strongest female cultivator in her age group, She is a distant relative of Nie Huaisang. She used to be a quick-tempered child but when the reality of the Nie cultivation sunk in, she sought to find a way to minimize the possibility of qi deviation. Instead of finding some new techniques she found Hanguang Jun. She thought, surely, by imitating him she will be less susceptible to qi deviations and so she went ahead and lived her life with such belief. As if the natural consequence trying to imitate one of the twin jades, her social skills were stunted and she is disconnected from her emotions.
Post canon:
She came back to rejoin society and the first thing she heard was Hanguang Jun's recent marriage. Her reaction was, "Oh. Congratulations to him, I guess?" She's still unaware of the things happening around her. Someone needs to anchor her to the ground. (Her head is so empty she might just float away, never to be seen again...)
Ok. The Jiang kids I made plenty of first of all:
Yu Lilai
I do remember that her name is supposed to mean "beautiful future".
Lilai already has a whole post explaining her. She is my favorite to use of the bunch in the silly comic stuff I made because there's no stake in her. She's the kind of gag character you will see in an anime who has an eccentric yet loving and supportive family.
She's also my favorite of the bunch :3
I have no height chart for these kiddos anymore
Jiang Lian
Jiang RenJi (courtesy name)
His given name means "to unite" and the courtesy name means "sturdy foundation"
He is a distant relative of the main Jiang family. His great great grandmother left the sect to live a civilian life away from Yunmeng. He reentered the Jiang sect when he was eight because he heard about Jiang Cheng's story and felt really bad for him. He wanted to help rebuild his ancestral home.
He is the responsible and ever-so-reliable Shixiong! He is the guard dog to the sheeps that are the baby disciples. Though he lacks Lilai's talent in combat or XinXue's silver tongue, he is the person the baby disciples trust the most. A sturdy leader, fitting his name.
Xiao XinXue
You know how Wei Wuxian is abbreviated to WWX and Jiang Cheng is JC? Yeah. XinXue's name is just so it can be abbreviated to XXX. XinXue name means "new blood" I forgot what Xiao is supposed to mean though.
Her family was killed by demonic cultivators and Jiang Cheng saved her. She is also the first orphan the Jiang sect save whom they eventually took in as a disciple.
. She harbors a deep hatred for demonic cultivation and doesn't think anything is wrong with punishing them. In essence she represents the irl people who just hate Wei Wuxian and an answer to people who think demonic cultivation users are just poor unfortunate souls who had no choice.
She's wrong in some points and justified in other points. No one is telling her to let go of her anger but her friends, Lilai especially, are quick to tell her that she needs to direct that anger to the right place (and not to a man who was dead during the death of her family). She goes to RenJi to vent whenever she needs it.
(and RenJi is always there to tell Lilai that she really needs to be more gentle with her wording)
She's usually very mischievous. It's difficult to be mad at her because seeing her happy is a far cry from the catatonic girl they nursed back to consciousness. Surprisingly, she is the most nurturing of the disciples. It's an unspoken agreement that she handles the other traumatized kids they will save.
I planned to make more characters with funny abbreviations like, XD, LOL, OWO, etc but it's tiring to look for Chinese characters...
Finally, the nebulous existence of
Jiang Xie
She never had a name first, then someone asked and I had to give her a name. Then I forgot what the name was and I have no internet to look. For the first time she's gonna get referred to by name in a drawing so I just put Xie and was done with it. Then I forgot that it was Xie lol. I finally looked up Chinese characters to make names for others and I named her MiFu (overflowing blessing, something like that) then I saw the comic again where she is Xie and well Xie it is. Thankfully it could mean harmony which fit her despite her chaotic tendencies.
She was never planned to be anything beyond the first comic thingy. As someone who only watched the worst version (the anime/manhua) finding out that the temple scene is different from what really happened, especially people's outrage about it compelled me to both make something silly about it that can comfort the traumatized grape. Lol.
Then some people really liked her, I did have some not funny ideas in my head so I just drew that. Sometimes others would comment stuff that gave me ideas so I made those. In a sense she's a group effort I guess. She just developed like that. She is a joke character at her very core though. I wanted to hit a balance of funny innocent children stuff without making her just a walking ball of gags.
Ultimately she's a good kid who likes helping people by suggesting solutions only children would think of (Jin Ling has no dad? Swear brotherhood with her so they can share her dad!) It usually doesn't help but it makes the receiver of the advice feel better more often than not. Promising to break the legs of her loved ones' bullies is her love language.

Just read your post about Nie Mingjue not understanding Jin Guangyao’s excuses not to throw Xue Yang out of the Jin window. I love your insight!!!
May I ask what, in your opinion, was Lan Xichen’s view on all this? Because he is the peacemaker, he seems to side with jgy always, but also can’t possibly know about the demonic cultivation…
(that’s the post, btw. Don’t know if you’ve made more than one) https://www.tumblr.com/lgbtlunaverse/744152124570697728?source=share
I'd argue that lan xichen doesn't really always side with jin guangyao, and related to this exact incident we can later hear him telling jin guangyao not to "provoke" Nie Mingjue anymore, while assuring him that things with da-ge are fine. He's a peacemaker, like you said. His ideal solution is getting everyone to just be nice to each other. And because Nie Mingjue is the one most outwardly angry, his first instinct in any fight is to get him to calm down so they can have a civil discussion or, even better, just drop the subject and pretend it never happened. Since jin guangyao is usually also eager to drop the subject, this means they end up agreeing. But it's more of a sign that their methods of conflict resolution are compatible than a sign that they always agree. (There are certainly times lxc genuinely agrees with jgy and disagrees with nmj! But i'd say it's not as universal as fandom makes it seem)
Indeed, since Xichen also doesn't know about the demonic cultivation, I kind of believe Xichen sort of agrees with Nie Mingjue that Jin Guangyao could get away with killing xue yang– he just thinks da-ge's way is the wrong way to go about asking that of him– because as far as xichen is concerned, jin guangyao actually was planning on killing Xue Yang!
Remember, after the fight, jgy tells nmj that he'll bring him xue yang's head. To Xichen, this is a satisfying solution, because it gets da-ge what he wants so he can calm down, which is always xichen's goal. If he believed doing this put jgy in serious danger, he might have objected a bit more. But he evidently thinks the risk is minor enough to be worth it for the ultimate sake of peace.
Him stopping nmj is about just that, making sure no one gets killed. And reminding nmj that jgy's family mistreats him, in that light, sounds less like an argument that he can't do it and more of a plea to give him more time to figure things out. (Again, Xichen is always eager to delay or avoid confrontation)
To Xichen, here's what happened: Jin Guangshan refuses to kill xue yang, nmj got really mad at a-yao over that, xichen de-escalated the situation, and a-yao promised to kill xue yang, he just needed time to do so. Yay! Solved! Except then da-ge died. (Yes, jgy killed him, and was never planning on killing xue yang, but xichen didn't know that) And xue yang was freed, but a-yao and he were busy grieving their oldest sworn brother! They kind of had other things going on! And then, some amount of months later, Jin Guangshan died, A-Yao became chief cultivator, and promptly killed xue yang! (He wasn't dead, but xichen didn't know that) Everything worked out in the end, it's only an unfortunate tragedy that da-ge died too soon to see that a-yao really was dedicated to him. 😔
We don't know what his exact reaction was before the nieyao stairs confrontation, but it was probably in the rough shape of xichen very politely asking jgy if he could at least try to convince his dad, and jgy saying he would but he wasn't sure if it'd work. That seems like something they'd do.
#asks#mdzs#mdzs meta#i had a whole essay typed up on how xichen *might* be convinced jgy doesn't need to kill xue yang and-if he did believe that- why he would.#but ultimately didn't include that because– due to later events– i think his most likely view is that it IS possible for jgy to do it.#might make that a seperate post. don't get your hopes up tho#lan xichen#jin guangyao#meng yao#rs: i wish it could've been you

Lan Xichen and Jin Guangyao event @masqce
"Okay if I were a serial killer then where would I go. . ." Lan Xichen said to himself as he gathered clues. Throwing himself in danger ? Up his alley. He did it a lot as sect leader so why would that change here. "No I'm thinking about this all wrong. . .I need to find the bodies and learn their history so coroner first.."

Fic Finder

1. In search of another fic! This time I'm looking for a fic where wwx was taken in by lqr and grows up in cloud recesses. I think there's a scene where an adult/older teen wwx requests that lqr formally adopt him, or lqr asks to formally adopt wwx. Either way, many heartwarming feelings! I think lwj might also formally request to speak to lqr about courting wwx in this fic. Thank you!
FOUND? All will be well when the day is done by abCEE (T, 76k, wangxian, Canon Divergence, Fix It, Not Jiang Family Friendly, not JFM or YZY friendly, Definitely not YZY centric, Time Travel, Butterfly Effect, Madam Lán Lives, No Sunshot Campaign, Unreliable Narrator, not JC friendly, non-yunmeng WWX, Accidental Baby Acquisition, Good Uncle LQR, Happy Ending, WWX gets the love and care that he deserves from the very beginning, WWX Isn't Adopted by the Jiāngs, verbal and physical (c/o Zidian) abuse from YZY)

2. Hello. First time doing this so hope I'm doing it right. I'm looking for a fic I read ages ago but I can't remember the name. What I remember is that it's a Modern AU and Wei Ying was sent to boarding school (Gusu) where he was roomed with Lan Zhan. It was just him and he had a hard time adjusting before things slowly got better. He went home for the holidays and found out that he was blood related to Jiang Feingman and did not really handle that well and left home to go back to school. Last thing I remember happening is that he got tricked into picking up a call from JFM when he thought it was Yanli? If you know this fic, is really appreciate some help @cara-tanaka
FOUND? I want to stay with you by Naeme (T, 63k, WangXian, Modern AU, Slow Burn, High School, Age Progression, Family Secrets, Family Drama, Family Feels, Bonding, Mutual Pining)

3. Hello, I’m looking for a specific WangXian fic, similar to “shoot your shot -hot or knot”. It features dark Lans where Lan Xichen sets up a mating run for his brother and Wei Ying signs up for the money. I remember a scene where all the contestants are asked to line and sign a contract and someone tries to escape. He gets shot and the rest of the contestants are warned not to try to run away. I think Lan Zhan is a feral/dominant Alpha. I believe he killed a few other contestants before making his way to Wei Ying. Hope you’re able to find it! Please and thank you 😊 @confundo

4. I’m looking for a Modaozushi Fanfic
I read this fanfic months ago. it is fic where wen qing asks for protection from wei ying, who is either a spirit or an immortal (he is definitely not human),for the wen remnants in exchange for their service for some time.
i think lan zhan (who was a winter lord or something) visits them after some time.
the story had not gone far when i had read it.
please help me find it.
FOUND? A Year and a Day by Admiranda (T, 11k, WIP, Unseelie AU, wwx is a fairy lord, making bargains with the fey, background wangxian, minor OCs, agenda: give wei wuxian some better siblings) the asker looking for the fic where WQ makes a bargain with WWX is likely looking for my Unseelie fic, in which WWX is the autumn Fey lord and LWJ is the winter prince. It is not cancelled, but the next chapter has been absolutely evil and refusing to write itself.

6. pls help me find this fic
A) i am doing this for the first time, Thank you already for all the efforts. i lost a twitter fic i read ago and forgot to save. Its info that i remember is as- TW // NSFW, MPREG..............it was a omegaverse types fic, lan zhan slept with wei ying, they did stuff. lan zhan ran away at night nd collapsed in the streets due to something related to omega-alpha thing, i dont exactly remember. then he's hospitalised for some time nd his brother lan huan stays with him. wei ying had no idea about lan zhan's conditions and lan huan thinks that lan zhan is in this condition because of wi ying so he starts hating him and tries his best to keep his brother away from wei ying......................they meet in a school programme again, where they play their guqin nd flute, towards the end wei ying is saved by lan zhan from an accident nd they r really close, again, lan zhan faints. lan huan comes, and takes lan zhan away. wei ying is pregnant nd wen wind knows it, she taks care of him. lan huan hides this info from lan zhan, who discovers it only when he overheard wen qing and lan huan talking when wen qing came to fetch lan zhan because wei ying's condition was getting worse without his a/b/o partner (doctor advised it). then, lan zhan goes to wei ying nd comfortshim, he sleeps but when he wakes up, he doesn't accept lan zhan nd technically hates him but they start taking things slowly nd improve. after a while, they r normal, they live in wen qing's apartment, lan zhan often feels distant and stays awake alone at night, wei ying is worried for him. he takes best care of wei ying but not himself. one day wen qing visits wei ying when lan zhan is out and tells him and she cam smell her scent nd not lan zhan's and that might be reason why lan zhan doesn't feel fine, because he is in other person's territory. wei ying calls lan qiren and asks help for a new place. rest, i dont remember, sorry. this is killing my brain
B) tw//nsfw it was a twt soc med au, wy was a singer/idol, got laid in a party(bday mayb), finds lan zhan later, lan zhan is the man. towards the end, he releases a whole song/album regarding his story, from getting laid to falling in love with lan zhan. in the mean time when he was preparing it as a bday gift, he gave less time to lz and he thought he was ignoring him. that's all i remember sorry, its stuck so bad, i cant forget it. there was a cover for the single/album too i dont remember @dee-s085

7. Hi, I’m so sorry to have to ask this, it’s frankly embarrassing, but here we are. I was reading one of the fics you recommended for an itmf (I think the original request was something with soulbonding) and my app closed. Now you would think finding it again would be easy, but I had scrolled a few months back by the time I found it and now fro the life of me can’t find it. So here’s the premise: CQL post canon, WWX wakes after banishing a spirit at an old manor and finds himself in pain. Turns out he and LWJ got cursed to be close, when they’re touching the pain recedes. I got maybe halfway through where they decided to visit the manor since the library didn’t deliver results. Would you be so kind to direct me to the correct fic/itmf post? You Guys are amazing, have a nice weekend ❤️ @elitharavenclaw
Hi, #7 of the last fic finder, sadly those fics are both not it. Theres not really more detail to tell though, but I will try. WWX is found by two rogue cultivators who treat him fine, he travels back to cloud recess for 2 days with little apple, sizhui and Jingyi help researching, LQR is disapproving of wangxians “unseemlieness” though he knows they’re cursed, they do check the forbidden section of the library but without success. Hope this helps.

And the writer added extract of this book wei ying is a fan of! It's an amazing fic with a fanart of this book. I was sure that the fics name was the monster of yiling, but i cannot find it . lwj and chili sauce thoughts?
Ah yes, chengzhan and chili sauce thoughts you mean? I yelled at your question, then took it way too seriously than I first anticipated.
The wide, extravagant halls of Carp Tower resounded with Lan Zhan’s loud footsteps. Uncharacteristically hurried and heavy with a persistent attempt to escape—perhaps to hide somewhere or drown himself in the nearest fountain.
Lanling had never been a place Lan Zhan was eager to visit. Unlike his brother, who was aching to stay a little longer, impatient to fly down the mountains a little sooner, and determined to drag Lan Zhan with him, to his sure doom.
"It would be advisable to get accustomed to the current state of jianghu. It’s been three years, Wangji," Lan Xichen’s smile had wavered, the corners of his lips tugged down by Lan Zhan’s failures and incompetence. "Please. You’re always alone, night-hunting. Demons and ghosts are your only company.”
His brother would have regretted his words had he known Lan Zhan would embarrass him again.
Red stained Lan Zhan’s white robes, spreading from his chest and dripping down to his waist. Even his cheeks and hands burnet with embarrassment, more than the spice of chili peppers.
"Have you been in good health, Hanguang-jun?" Pleasantries. "Second Brother is always worried about you. Lanling is delighted to welcome you again." Jin Guangyao’s smile was dappled with a politeness more cruel than slander. He raised his cup with a gentle flutter of his sleeve, hiding behind it as he downed the wine in one gulp.
Lan Zhan had no right to be angry at his brother for divulging the details of his punishment. It was only natural for friends to share their burdens and concerns, offer a shoulder to howl into, ease bated breaths. Not that Lan Zhan would know.
During the Sunshot Campaign, only Jiang Wanyin had found his presence somewhat passable enough to entrust him with his worries. He had thought they would regroup in Lanling.
How ironic.
Pleasantries, more pleasantries, fake concerns, and loud gossip—all of it exploded all of it had exploded with a jar of chili sauce that Lan Zhan grabbed to ground himself. Eyes stabbed at him, whispers thundered like cicadas on a hot summer day.
Lan Zhan froze, stilled. His brother rushed to his table, and Lan Zhan stormed out.
Embarrassed, humiliated by none other than himself. Foolish and useless, offering another story for Carp Tower to gossip about for another week or two if Lan Zhan was unfortunate enough.
Lan Zhan ran, his stride too shameful for a Lan—as was everything about him.
Finding his way to his quarters in this profligate and gaudy maze should not have been a problem. He had brought spare robes; he could draw a bath and wash the red off his skin along with the memories of this dinner.
He could. He could do that if he weren’t stopped by footsteps drowning out his own. Confident, resolute, and unhurried yet fast, Lan Zhan could recognise that gait by sound alone, by the ground shaking under his feet. He had shared the same path with that man once. He always walked as if every pebble and every blade of grass crushed under his boot belonged to him, as if he owned them, had every right and reason to aimlessly destroy the harmony.
His brother had warned him that Clan Leader Jiang would be joining them in their discussions later rather than sooner.
He hadn’t seen Jiang Wanyin in three years.
He hadn’t planned on crossing paths with that menace of a man today.
"Hanguang-jun," a sharp drawl found him before Jiang Wanyin’s cutting, dark eyes did. His imposingly deep voice echoed through Lan Zhan’s body, deafening his thoughts and violently beating heart. Perhaps Jiang Wanyin, too, was wretched to remember small, unimportant things about Lan Zhan that he would rather forget, scrape out of his mind. "You are as staid as ever. What a great surprise to see you here.”
Jiang Wanyin couldn’t even see him. He made sure to trap Lan Zhan in the spot where he was anchored to the floor. Made it clear he knew, even if Lan Zhan escaped before laying eyes on that savage, attention-hungry man.
Lan Zhan sped up, unwilling to waste his breath. Jiang Wanyin sped up along with him, turning at the intersection of the hallways, his eyes—his angry eyes—immediately capturing Lan Zhan, peering into him in the dim light.
Lan Zhan didn’t want to look, didn’t want to note how much Jiang Wanyin had changed over the years. He wanted to leave as soon as possible, his gaze glued to the floor.
"Hanguang-jun," that voice, that man approached him, each breath drawing closer and closer. Soon he would make a snide remark about Lan Zhan’s appearance, mock him, and tell everyone in Yunmeng about Lan Zhan’s inappropriate mien. "You greet your superiors when they greet you.”
Lan Zhan’s head flew up, his eyebrows forming a frown that only Jiang Wanyin could irk out of him.
Nothing had changed about that resentful man. Jiang Wanyin’s cheeks were a bit hollower, for all Lan Zhan knew. His acerbic smile and scalding eyes, burning with the force of a thousand lightning strikes, remained the same as ever, irritating as usual, crawling under Lan Zhan’s skin. As usual.
His robes—that was new. Dark purples hugged him tightly around his wide shoulders. The fabric was so light, the opening revealed his legs with the flutter of his skirts.
If he could see thin silver patterns on the hems, it only meant… Lan Zhan braced himself, poised for the bile to erupt between the sinister smile.
That smile suddenly dropped.
"Hanguang-jun!" The sudden urgency in Jiang Wanyin’s tone addled Lan Zhan’s brain. He rushed forward, and within three wide steps, he was so close, Lan Zhan swore worry swam behind those dark irises. "Are you injured?”
What?
Jiang Wanyin grabbed him by the shoulders, Zidian hand pressed on Lan Zhan’s chest where chili sauce had stained his robes especially dark red. The strong grip on his skin hurt more than whatever injury Jiang Wanyin imagined him to have.
"Were you attacked?" Jiang Wanyin pulled him closer, tried supporting Lan Zhan’s entire weight.
"Clan Leader Jiang.”
"Ambushed? Isn’t your fucking brother here?" He snarled, and Zidian came to life, excited to slash through a nonexistent threat.
"Jiang Wanyin, unhand me," Lan Zhan insisted, pushing that ridiculous man away. It only compelled Jiang Wanyin to haul him closer into his constricting grasp.
"What the fuck are you saying? My disciples can tend to your wounds, keep you safe for the time being.”
Lan Zhan blinked and blinked and blinked. His head was a flurry of thoughts refusing to align into something that would make sense of Jiang Wanyin. Jiang Wanyin pulled and dragged, Zidian’s light never fizzled out.
"Fucking move or rest on me if you can’t." His scream violently threw Lan Zhan back in time, back to those three months of blood.
That had happened before, hadn’t it?
Lan Zhan resisted, stubbornly refused to move, refused to speak. The truth would embarrass them both.
"Jiang Wanyin, leave.”
"I’m not leaving you." Just like that. Were the deposits of ice they both grew in their hearts so fragile? Could chili sauce exhaust them?
Lan Zhan closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. Nothing had changed about this seething man. Always fond of making Lan Zhan’s life difficult.
"Chili sauce," Lan Zhan choked out, ears burning.
"What?" Jiang Wanyin finally stopped, froze. However, his hand only gripped tighter.
"I spilled chili sauce.”
Jiang Wanyin let go of him, looked at his stained hands, looked at Lan Zhan, and blushed, suddenly looking so young, boyish in his confused embarrassment. Almost shy, all that confidence, built up even more in the span of three years, gone, dissipated under Lan Zhan’s curious gaze.
"You what?”
"Don’t make me repeat myself.”
"Fuck." Jiang Wanyin stepped away, his hand moving to rub his eyes but stopping midway before he could burn himself with the spice. He glowered at Lan Zhan as if every misfortune in his life was Lan Zhan’s fault. Something they agreed on at last. Familiar and forever constant, that rancour.
Lan Zhan pulled a handkerchief out of his sleeve, extending it to Jiang Wanyin. A hint of mischief and pettiness wasn’t beyond Lan Zhan. It easy to succumb to in Jiang Wanyin’s presence.
“Keep it,” Jiang Wanyin roared, walking past him, his eyes looking anywhere but at Lan Zhan. “Disappear on me again, and I’ll fucking drown you in chili sauce,” he threatened, melding with the darkness of the halls.
Not the strangest thing Lan Zhan had been told today.
Nothing had changed about Jiang Wanyin. That thought scorched him, distracting from chili sauce drying on his skin.

Lan Xichen hummed and nodded, gaze back to screen. They are at the part with Shell Mountain and the turtle. "Fascinating." He whispered to himself. The effects are old considering when it was made but still fascinating to see play out, even if the turtle not caring does not sit well with Xichen because he cares too much.
"just watch the movie, a-huan." he replies after a moment, shifting to wrap his arms more fully around the other man as he speaks. they both deserve a bit of a peaceful day after everything that's happened, so he just returns the smile before lifting his gaze to the screen.

the thought recently came to my mind and stayed there since so I really need to share it with someone. do you think in case jgy and/or nmj get resurrected/reborn with their memories intact post-canon, they would hold some kind of resentment towards lxc? for jgy, I think it's pretty in-character for him to disregard his part in ruining lxc's trust and lying and inadvertently using him in killing nmj, and simply be upset with the stabbing. and for nmj it's too pretty obvious of a moment of 'I told you so!', and lxc not listening to his warnings eventually got him killed. on the other hand, lxc has plenty of time to reflect on everything that has happened, and I doubt fierce corpses have any sense of time and space in order to process everything. I've just never seen this aspect in any of the post-canon fix-its I've read
Oh yay I love getting anons! I hope it’s ok if I tl;dr disagree with some of these ideas and give you my own :’) Let me start with: jgy and nmj at the end of the story are non-sentient fierce corpses (or, in jgy’s case, just a corpse that has not turned yet) so there won’t be any talking or processing anything at all. So, let us assume they are brought back in the exact same mental state they were at when they died.
I’m no NMJ scholar, mind you, but - while I think he would absolutely be angry when he comes back, I also think he would not be justified in being angry. Certainly not at LXC! He’d likely be mad at LXC, JGY, NHS, and basically everyone but himself... but he is at least partially responsible for the situation that led to his own death. (Remember, he tried to kill JGY three times before JGY retaliated, and he never once stopped pressuring him to go against his father, which JGY genuinely could not do without being exiled or worse.) JGY would likely not have killed him had he not become a threat to his life first. Would NMJ still tell LXC “I told you so”? Probably. But LXC is absolutely not responsible for his death in any way, and absolutely does not deserve that anger. NMJ’s warnings that JGY would “be a danger to the world” were unfounded paranoia, entirely unrelated to the reasons for his eventual murder. Whether NMJ comes to term with that fact, though, I don’t really know. I have a rather uncharitable view of his canonical beliefs and his way of handling just about any situation that involved JGY, so... unless death changes him as a person, I am skeptical. Now for the xiyao part of the deal (you asked me, you had to be expecting this to be mainly about xiyao!)
I have given this one some thought previously, contemplating various postcanon AUs and things I wanted to write. I think it could go both ways... JGY would be justified in being angry with Lan Xichen, that is what his epic final speech seems to imply - he has always protected LXC (from hurt, from involvement, from horrible truths) and in return, he gets stabbed! But canonically we know that, even at his angriest, he still pushed LXC away to save his life. So was he still angry at him? Would he be angry at him after he comes back? Of course it’s complicated, but I’m leaning towards no. Especially when he knows that Huaisang tricked LXC, and he knows it was likely the accumulation of his revealed deeds that had shaken LXC’s faith in the first place. I think eventually he’d blame himself for it, rather than Lan Xichen.
There is a quote that stuck with me from one of the very first fics I read in this fandom years ago, from JGY to LXC;
“I forgive you,” he says roughly. “I forgave you before I was even dead[...]”
(from Grief Negotiations by Nomette)
I think, ultimately, that’s how I see it. Whether LXC forgives himself, that’s another story entirely.

arranged20??
This answer is also for @nanavn, who asked about the same thing!
This is a fic I really, really hope to finish writing. I wrote 44,293 already. I love it and I'm proud of it. But it's an MDZS/CQL fic, and my head is living in TGCF right now, and I also want to make time for original fic, so who knows when I will get to it?
This fic is wangxian. That's the only pairing, though I guess background LXC/NMJ.
In ancient China, marriage between men was a thing, the way it was in many ancient cultures, but I didn't really do a lot of research on that for the fic. One central premise of the fic, though, is that marriage between men is not unheard of and can be used for political alliances. Homophobia still exists in this world, because I actually think it's rather important to some of the premises of this book.
The fic is an AU after WWX dies at the burial mounds. Another basic premise is that JGS begins to realize JGY is a threat, so he watches closely and doesn't die in an orgy. In order to keep JGY in check, JGS recognizes Mo Xuanyu as Jin Xuanyu. Meanwhile, JGS is more careful about consolidation of power--for instance, JGY has not dared sabotage NMJ. Instead, the Jin Sect has slowly expanded such that the other sects can feel the heat, and everyone is waiting for things to boil over.
This is an arranged marriage fic. At the start of the fic, Jin Sect finally makes a move that will undermine and discredit the Lan Sect. Lan Xichen knows what JGS is looking for--to either chip away at Lan influence or gain Lan fealty. LXC feels that the only way to secure their position is to marry into the Jin Sect. LWJ refuses to let his brother throw himself away on a loveless marriage, because the man LXC loves is alive and also threatened (even without his qi being sabotaged, NMJ's qi is still unstable). Believing that WWX won't return, LWJ demands that he go through with the marriage himself, and because LWJ is super stubborn and LXC isn't great at standing up to him, LXC acquiesces.
The marriage is of course to Jin Xuanyu. LWJ doesn't really know Jin Xuanyu except for having met a few times in passing. On the day of their wedding, Jin Xuanyu excuses himself from the wedding feast, claiming to be ill.
Here is an excerpt, taking place when LWJ checks on Jin Xuanyu after the wedding banquet!
Lan Wangji nodded and entered the residence, where a strange odor assaulted his senses and Jin Xuanyu stood in the middle of the room, holding a thick sheaf of papers and a shocked expression. “Lan Zhan!” he exclaimed.
Lan Wangji looked at Jin Xuanyu’s arm, which was now behind Jin Xuanyu’s back, hiding the sheaf of papers. Deciding to prioritize, Lan Wangji didn’t ask about it. Jin Xuanyu was extremely pale. “Are you all right?”
“Me?” Jin Xuanyu said blankly. “Oh, I’m quite . . . oh, terrible.” He began to cough. “I’m terrible, Hanguang-jun.”
“I brought you food,” Lan Wangji said, moving farther into the room. The scent in the air was familiar, but Lan Wangji could not place it.
Jin Xuanyu had not moved. “Hanguang-jun,” he said. Then he said it again. “Hanguang-jun.”
Lan Wangji put the tray on the table and stood.
“I . . .” Jin Xuanyu seemed quite at a loss. Then he said, in a quiet voice, “Are we really married?”
Lan Wangji stared, at a loss as well.
“It’s just . . .” Jin Xuanyu made a helpless gesture with his hand.
Lan Wangji, speaking very carefully, said, “You were at the ceremony.”
Jin Xuanyu grimaced. “Right . . .” He made another face. “It’s just so . . .”
Jin Xuanyu stood there for so long, unspeaking, that Lan Wangji finally stepped toward him.
“Never mind, Hanguang-jun!” Speeding over to the table, keeping the papers behind his back, Jin Xuanyu looked down at the tray. “Is it from the wedding banquet?” he said quickly. “Is it something good?”
Lan Wangji eyed him warily, remembering the Jin plots he had considered earlier. “Plain soup.”
Jin Xuanyu’s face fell. “Really?”
“You were unwell,” Lan Wangji reminded him.
“Oh. Right.” Jin Xuanyu coughed a few times.
In spite of his pallor, the way Jin Xuanyu was coughing did not appear genuine, and he seemed otherwise well. Even if he was sick, his current condition did not seem poor enough to warrant desertion of his own wedding banquet, and no illness Lan Wangji could imagine would cause a person to post a guard outside the door.
Keeping the papers out of sight behind him, Jin Xuanyu leaned down, uncovering the bowl on the tray and taking a whiff. “Unf. It really is plain. There at least should be good food, considering what I’ve been through.”
Jin Xuanyu did not seem inclined to share what he had ‘been through,’ but the papers were obviously connected. “Shall I fetch something else?” Lan Wangji asked, keeping his tone polite.
Wincing, Jin Xuanyu straightened, then forced an uncomfortable little laugh. “No, Hanguang-jun, that’s . . . it’s fine.”
Unable to wait any longer for a reasonable explanation, Lan Wangji finally asked, “What are the papers?”
“Hm?”
Lan Wangji did not repeat himself. He thought that Jin Xuanyu had heard him very well.
“Oh.” Jin Xuanyu chuckled. “I suppose you mean these,” he said, whipping out the sheaf of paper from behind his back. “Well, let me tell you,” Jin Xuanyu went on, glancing at the papers himself. “These papers are . . . they’re . . . a diary,” he said suddenly. “Very private, Hanguang-jun. I’m going to burn them.”
The paper visible to Lan Wangji was covered in writing too small to read. Lan Wangji looked back to Jin Xuanyu. “I would not read your private writings.”
“I’m sure you wouldn’t, Hanguang-jun,” Jin Xuanyu said, setting the sheaf of papers on the floor, then sitting down on it, before the soup. “You’ve always been so honorable. One can never be too careful, though. Prying eyes, you know.” Picking up the bowl, Jin Xuanyu began to eat, as though nothing in his behavior could be deemed at all suspicious or unusual.
Lan Wangji looked down at him, trying to decide what to do. That Jin Xuanyu was hiding things from him was obvious, and yet, Lan Wangji had rarely witnessed a guilty person seem so unconcerned with being caught. If Jin Xuanyu had in fact planned with other Jin Sect members to annihilate the Lan Clan from within, or if some other nefarious scheme were in play, surely a more subtle subterfuge would have been employed.
No, this behavior seemed a result of Jin Xuanyu’s own eccentricities, of which Lan Wangji was rapidly becoming aware that there were many. When Jin Xuanyu had first joined the Jin Clan at Golden Carp Tower, Lan Wangji had heard that the man was odd, but almost all the rumors had seemed to center around Jin Xuanyu’s sexual preferences, as far as Lan Wangji had been able to tell.
Perhaps he should have conducted more research into the nature of Jin Xuanyu’s character, not in the least because Jin Xuanyu was now slurping his soup in a most aggravating manner. He had handled himself with adequate decorum at the tea ceremony that afternoon. Perhaps within the privacy of the Jingshi, with his new husband, Jin Xuanyu felt it permissible to forgo etiquette.
“If you would like a private place for the papers,” Lan Wangji said, “I can provide a case and show you how to construct a locking talisman.”
“Ah, are we still talking about that?” Jin Xuanyu said, not looking up at him. “I told you, I’m burning them.”
Lan Wangji watched his husband eat for another moment or two. He really should sit with him, but to do so felt like a concession that Jin Xuanyu’s meal was normal and nothing at all strange was happening, when the fact was that Jin Xuanyu had been doing something in this room, something with the papers that he did not want Lan Wangji to know about. Perhaps it really was as innocent as updating his supposed ‘diary,’ but Lan Wangji doubted this.
The smell alone was cause for concern. When Lan Wangji focused on it, memories of the Sunshot Campaign surfaced—battlefields. Death. Corpses. But the room didn’t smell like death or rotting flesh. The odor was faintly metallic.
Lan Wangji spotted the smudge on the floor at the same time as he identified the scent.
Blood.
Walking a few steps, Lan Wangji bent down to inspect the floorboards he had only recently repaired. The stain was fresh, smudged as though hastily wiped away. The rest of the floor was clean, but such a small amount of blood would never cause the scent to be so noticeable. Straightening, Lan Wangji looked back at Jin Xuanyu, who was looking back at him, eyes wide as he lowered the bowl from his mouth.
“Were you cut?” Lan Wangji asked.
“No?” Jin Xuanyu did not sound certain about this.
“There is blood.”
“Ah, how strange.” Jin Xuanyu remained where he was.
“I smell it.”
“Ah, Hanguang-jun, so impressive, able to scent blood. You know, I would not share this fact,” Jin Xuanyu said brightly, wagging a finger at him. “They say that certain monsters are able to scent blood; it’s a nefarious talent.”
“Jin Xuanyu.”
“What? Oh. Yes?”
Lan Wangji looked at the floor, then back up at Jin Xuanyu. He was still pale, Lan Wangji saw. Blood loss.
“Well, what makes you think it’s mine, Hanguang-jun?” Jin Xuanyu asked, sounding petulant. “It could be anyone’s blood! You should keep your place cleaner. And more secure! Anyone could just come in here and bleed.”
Lan Wangji walked back to the table, took Jin Xuanyu by the arm, then pulled up. Jin Xuanyu squawked a loud protest, but Lan Wangji was stronger, forcing Jin Xuanyu from where he sat to reveal the papers that had been under him. Lan Wangji reached for them, and they abruptly caught fire.
Whirling, Lan Wangji turned back to look at Jin Xuanyu, who was lowering his hand, having just made a hand seal for fire—not a very effective one, Lan Wangji saw, turning back to the flames. The fire was feeble, already petering out. Lan Wangji waved his hand, expending very little spiritual power to extinguish it, but Jin Xuanyu was already rushing back, gathering the burnt papers to his chest. “I told you!” he exclaimed. “They’re my diary! You wouldn’t read another man’s diary, would you, Hanguang-jun? I thought you were honorable!”
“Tell me,” said Lan Wangji, through gritted teeth, “what is going on.”
“I’m . . .” Jin Xuanyu’s shoulders slumped. “Well, if you must know . . .”
Lan Wangji, waiting, abruptly realized he was furious. He had not had the time to process everything that had happened so far, all the ways that Jin Xuanyu was lying to him, setting actual fires in the Jingshi, cutting himself, hiding it—and they were married. Lan Wangji had married this man this morning, and Lan Wangji could not fully comprehend it. He could not recall feeling so blindly angry since he’d been a teenager; the mixture of hurt and absolute confusion felt exactly the same.
It felt exactly the same, and Lan Wangji suddenly, powerfully wished that Wei Ying was here, if only for Wei Ying to hurt him and confuse him that way again. At least that was a pain that Lan Wangji understood, and it had come from someone he loved. That this stranger could hold such power over Lan Wangji was only a result of the fact that they were married, and Lan Wangji had had his hopes, and now they were meant to live together, side by side, when Jin Xuanyu obviously had so little respect for him. It felt intolerable. It felt unfair.
Lan Wangji took a deep breath, then let it go.
“I was trying to cast a spell,” said Jin Xuanyu.
“With blood,” said Lan Wangji.
“Well, you see . . . it wasn’t exactly a polite spell.”
Lan Wangji put out his hand.
Jin Xuanyu looked down at it.
“The papers,” said Lan Wangji.
“No!” Jin Xuanyu clutched them closer. “These are my . . . notes. On how to do the spell, but it didn’t work. I’m . . . such a poor cultivator, you see.” Jin Xuanyu lit up suddenly. “That’s why I was casting the spell! It’s this body. It’s weak! And . . . small. The—my golden core is just . . . nothing to speak of. I could also be far better looking, don’t you agree?”
Lan Wangji did not know what he was talking about.

LXC would've gotten disbarred
After I kind of drifted away from the cnovel translation forum I used to be a part of, like, a decade ago, I thought to myself: my translator days are over! I will not translate stuff again! The post about if NMJ has hobbies (found here if you want to see it) was merely a blip on the radar of “not translating anything.”
Alas, I appear to have descended into a new pit, and that is seeing things in the other translations of mdzs and going back to the Chinese to look at things, discussing with @autumnslantern and just, translating snippets of this book and then deciding to share the results.
In this case, it’s a passage from Chapter 73, which is doing the rounds again, but I’ve most commonly seen as evidence for “LXC really wanted to say something about the treatment of the Wens but got steamrolled by NMJ’s objections” and I kind of just want to wave at the title of this post because if Chinese Novel!Xichen had been my defense lawyer, I would fire him. I would want him disbarred lol. I love him but this was not a shiny moment of Xichen getting steamrolled.
Again, this appears like it will get long, so meta under the cut:
The passage in question in this one, which is early on in Chapter 73:
The fantranslation I have access to says this:
Lan XiChen responded a moment later, “I have heard of Wen Qing’s name a few times. I do not remember her having participated in any of the Sunshot Campaign’s crimes.”
Nie MingJue, “But she’s never stopped them either.”
Lan XiChen, “Wen Qing was one of Wen RuoHan’s most trusted people. How could she have stopped them?”
Nie MingJue spoke coldly, “If she responded with only silence and not opposition when the Wen Sect was causing mayhem, it’s the same as indifference. She shouldn’t have been so disillusioned as to hope that she could be treated with respect when the Wen Sect was doing evil and be unwilling to suffer the consequences and pay the price when the Wen Sect was wiped out.”
Lan XiChen knew that because of what happened to his father, Nie MingJue abhorred Wen-dogs more than anything, especially with how intolerable he was toward evil. Lan XiChen didn’t say anything else.
One of the sect leaders spoke up, “What Sect Leader Nie said is quite right. Besides, Wen Qing is one of Wen RuoHan’s most trusted people. You’re telling me she never participated? Well I don’t buy it. Is there any Wen-dog without a single drop of blood on their hands? Maybe it’s just that we haven’t found out about it yet!”
Which I got from this source on the internet. At some point I should invest in buying an actual physical copy of this text, but I spent my discretionary Chinese book money on a great copy of Yanxi Palace so I’ll have to wait on my physical MDZS copy.
Anyway, what follows are a bunch of screenshots of the translation process of this section and then some cleanup and a basic summary.
Idk about you all, but I do not call someone a pejorative equivalent of WRH’s toady/crony/trusted ally, while saying “why would she stop his horrible crimes!” and then think that my good friend would have to “turn a blind eye” if we were to let her off when I’m trying very hard to defend her against the masses but am getting steamrolled into agreeing that she probably deserved it.
Indeed, the two things that LXC says in this scene are: “I have heard briefly of Wen Qing’s reputation, it does not appear that she personally murdered anyone…” and “she’s a crony of WRH, how would she have stopped his atrocities?”
Now, I actually like him more after realizing this fact, because he was being mildly bitchy about this! And honestly, given that the Wen burned down his house and killed his dad and killed a bunch of Lan cultivators and broke Wangji’s leg and kidnapped Wangji and nearly killed Xichen himself and he had to flee with a bunch of their sacred texts…I’d say he’s earned the right to be bitchy about them.
But also if I were Wen Qing depending on Zewu-jun for his excellent defense lawyering skills at my criminal trial I would want him disbarred. And also fired.
#lan xichen#nie mingjue#so i have no real bad feelings about the fan translation or the official i just thought the chinese was really fun to read!#my meta#my posts#my translation#anyway if I were Wen Qing I would want him fired#and possibly prevented from defense lawyering for anyone else

Snippet of the current 3zun wip
A modern 3zun story, starting with established nieyao:
***
When he started seeing Mingjue, he didn't expect to become friends with his brother. In a lot of ways, meeting Nie Huaisang explained a lot of things about Mingjue: his overprotective streak, his willingness to help, his comfortable resignation to being manipulated into going to galleries or plays he has no interest in. His love for NIe Huaisang set a lot of behaviour patterns that honestly work out well for Meng Yao. Sometimes, it's very nice to be able to pout up at his boyfriend and look through his lashes, and do exactly what Meng Yao wants to do. Does not abuse that power as obviously as Nie Huaisang but there are definitely times when he's weaselled his way out of cooking that night on the excuse of having such a terribly long day, and then relaxed in the bath while Mingjue cooks.)
Nie Huaisang has become one of the few people Meng Yao will call simply to complain about something. He calls to complain about the humiliation of finding Mingjue's ex hot but Nie Huaisang groans before he even finishes his sentence. "Eurgh, Xichen-ge is staying with you? He's lovely, he is, but around my brother they both revert into jocks. Have they dragged you to the basketball court yet?"
"This morning." Mingjue had asked him to play but he begged off, sitting in the shade with his phone. Lan Xichen must have been expecting it because he'd packed blue basketball shorts that fluttered against his thighs when he bounced up to his toes to make a throw.
Meng Yao has always appreciated how good Mingjue looks in a sleeveless basketball jersey, how clearly it shows the muscles in his arms and shoulders when he plays. But, oh, it is a lot watching two very well-built guys run and laugh, jostling and elbowing each other for the ball. (It's enough to make Meng Yao wonder if he should be watching professional sports.) They play by haphazard rules. At one point, Lan Xichen jumped on Mingjue's back to grab the ball and throw it through the hoop.
By the time they call a time-out for water, they're both sweating, gleaming in the sunshine and Meng Yao is very, very grateful that he's wearing dark sunglasses as Lan Xichen pours water down the back of his neck, shaking it off like a golden retriever.
"Did you remember sunscreen?" Mingjue asks when he wanders over to check on Meng Yao, pulling his jersey up to wipe at his face and revealing a solid torso of muscle. He drops the shirt and gives Meng Yao an amused smirk. "You look like you've caught a bit of the sun."
Meng Yao glares at him over the edge of his sunglasses. His boyfriend is the worst. Honestly, he doesn't know why he puts up with him. Being railed through the mattress is not enough to make up for it. (It could be the way he gets Meng Yao's sense of humour. Or the way he stares when Meng Yao steps out of the shower, like Meng Yao is the hottest thing he's ever seen. Or how last time Meng Yao was sick, he cooked soup from Meng Yao's mother's recipe.) "You know you're a terrible person, right?"
Mingjue just laughs, dimples and all, and then calls over his shoulder, "Xichen, ready to go again?"
