The Hakenkreuz is the old Teutonic cross. It is likely it and the swastika have a common origin (often related to the sun, strength, protection). The specific meanings are usually religious and cultural, but can be mostly found in areas believed to be tied to Indo-European peoples at the time, and its use goes back 12 thousand years. The specific use the Nazis had (diamond orientation, clockwise) has absolutely become poisoned, and I don't see anyone using that with good intent anywhere nowadays. However, in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism it still retains its religious values, and is usually not found in that orientation. Historically, you can find it associated with thunder gods in most of the European branch of IE religions. Zeus, Thor, etc. It was even found in early Christian religious art.

Finally, while there may be some troubling aspects of some political movements that use Hinduism as their claim (and I will leave any further discussion of that to people much closer to the situation than I am, I know I don't know enough details), its religious use in Indian religion is not inherently bad.
