#Regulus is a literature nerd

I just had an argument with my best friend about whether or not you should mark books and it got me thinking, something I don't usually do very much to be honest.

Regulus is one of those who loves to scratch his books, at first it was uncomfortable for him to do so because he had no idea what to write, But over time he began to write long notes that adorned the margins of the pages of his favorite books.

It may be a very cliché thing for the character, but it is very personal to me.

He wrote things about comments that he found interesting, funny or profound about the characters or the narrative of the text.

He also wrote about the author's style or some metaphors that went unnoticed in his first reading of the book but that on a second or third reading he managed to understand and went on to express his fanaticism for the writer's ingenuity in choosing certain resources to tell the story.

I hope that by now you understand where I'm going with this.

He also liked to remember his thoughts about a book he read and see if later he still thought the same thing or if those thoughts had changed. He made fun of himself about some of the notes and answered himself as if his younger self could see the notes too.

Something that he also started doing with his school textbooks, homework he needed to do, topics he had to review or simply notes from class that he was too lazy to write on his notebook.

But one day, out of nowhere, he started jotting down notes about a particular boy, one he thought he hated, but his notes were completely romantic about him.

He skip his novels without romance, or tragic romance, and prefer where the main couple ends up together happily ever after.

Maybe you know where this is going. I'll leave it here for now, because my lunch break at work is over.

But Reg picked it up from Barty and he just loves a good smoke sometimes, ya know?

One night as they’re packing up to leave the library Remus makes a comment,

“Damn, I could really use a smoke,” he groans.

“You have a pack.” Regulus huffs, “I’m certainly not going to stop you.” He shrugs.

“No, different smoke. A muggle kind,” He mirrors the shrug.

“Oh, cannabis?” Regulus perks up (as much as he can) “Barty shares with me sometimes, I thought he was the only one who had that stuff.”

Remus eyes him skeptically before shouldering his bag. “I’ll share with you, how about we go to the astronomy tower and light up?”

From there it becomes routine.

After “book club” winds down, they migrate to the astronomy tower and smoke, passing back and forth until they’re sated.

It’s just what they need in order to relax and let things finally progress between the two of them.

So elaborating on this post, since someone requested :D

Basically, in my opinion it deals heavily with how Evan, Remus, and Regulus all view and interact with academia (if that makes sense).

Evan views it as a competition, something to challenge others to. He's also insanely competitive, like he is one of the most dedicated people when it comes to competitions. Evan can and has read entire textbooks of subjects he doesn't even like because of this. Regulus views it more as a love language (?), he's not great at expressing his feelings so he does it through academia because he's a fucking nerd but he's also wildly competitive. Remus enjoys academia, he views it as both a comfort and a necessity. He's at Hogwarts and he needs to prove himself that he belongs there and that he should be there, but while Remus started being into academia as a way to prove himself and as a way to prove to others (his parents who were wary of him attending Hogwarts especially) he begins to enjoy it. While Remus doesn't initiate anything he sure as hell won't back away because he's a marauder and he does enjoy it, just not enough to start it (but once it starts he is there to WIN).

Now, the differences in their academic relationships with each other are heavily dependent on these views.

Firstly, Remus and Evan: academic rivals with benefits. As I said Evan is competitive when it comes academia and Remus isn't really but also isn't the kind to back down. They compete in every subject and this eventually forms into a odd relationship dynamic where they can and will destroy the other in class (actively strive to, most times) and relentlessly brag about it to the other when they best them in something but also snog in the libraries and in broom closets on the regular. They aren't dating, hell they'd hex you if you even suggested that, they're academic rivals who may or may not get off on said rivalry.

Next, Remus and Regulus: academic rivals to lovers. Regulus views academia as a love language and Remus views it as a comfort. They start as rivals because Remus is Sirius' best mate and as much as Regulus wants to he can't be with Remus but that doesn't mean he can't show his love for him veiled behind a rivalry (he's also objectively terrible at expressing his emotions so he does it in the way he knows how: academia). So while it starts as a rivalry, once they start dating they don't really compete all that much because they both enjoy just sitting and reading and having quiet discussions about their books (not saying they don't enjoy having a fight to the death over literature and the best substitute for ingredients in potions because they do, just not quite as much with each other)

And finally, Evan and Regulus: lovers to academic rivals. So, Regulus views academia as a way of showing love but he's also really competitive, especially with his friends. Evan is just flat out competitive and he loves getting Regulus really riled up (he thinks he's really fucking hot when he's yelling at him about how he's wrong). They get really competitive about it, even while they're dating. Like REALLY competitive and they bring it into every bit of their relationship because lets be real they have NO sense of proper boundaries with shit like this and they both take it a little too far. They end up breaking up (whether due to them taking it too far and it destroying their relationship or just them stopping having those feelings for each other is up to you, I personally adore both). Either way they do eventually break up but they continue the academic rivals bit because their relationship is just competitive in nature. Their relationship, in my opinion, just doesn't really work without either A. copious amounts of therapy beforehand or B. someone else involved to keep them a little more chill because they are COMPETITIVE and they are RUTHLESS about it.

Hope this makes sense but this is just how I view it (also I love rambling about this kind of stuff please ask me to babble about stuff like this more)

Marauders/Emeralds Era Characterisation/Builds/Backgrounds in my fics

-I’ve seen a few newbies looking for head-canons to try out in their fics. Feel free to use any of these.

-there is some variation, of course, plus some of my fics are set at the younger Hogwarts ages, but usually in this order from tallest to shortest as adults:

Remus Lupin (6’ 1”-6’4”) - typically an inch or two taller than James, but rarely quite tall. Lanky, long-limbed with curly dirty blond/light brown hair. Sometimes, he’s stronger than he looks, other times he’s a wet noodle. Disabled (usually physically, but sometimes with Tourette’s or Epilepsy). Introvert. Classic literature/fantasy novel buff. Neutral Good. Welsh. Bisexual with a preference for men. Smokes occasionally, prefers weed.

James Potter (around 6’) - athletic with strong upper body, solid but rarely super muscular. Wears glasses, intelligent, and has ADHD. Chaotic Good. Messy curls. Wide open music taste, but always Queen and a sucker for a ballad. Deep voice. Extrovert. Deeply romantic. Usually Desi via Euphemia, but love the Latinx James hc. Bisexual>Pansexual (used interchangeably for James). Non-smoker.

Barty Crouch Jr. (around 6’) - athletic, but slim. This man has no arse. Stronger than he looks. British, but love the hc that he’s Italian. Burnt out gifted kid, occasionally tech savvy. Heavy-metal and emo fan. Usually has ODD. Extrovert. Chaotic Evil. Omnisexual or Bi with a preference for mascs. Often with tattoos and/or piercings. Heavy smoker.

Dorcas Meadowes (5’9-5’11) - athletic, or slender with some curves. Black, British, and the most intelligent of the group. Long braids. Ambivert. Love her characterisation as a good Slytherin. True Neutral. Listens to R&B, but secretly loves pop music, mostly sapphic artists. Occasionally has Depression. Neither butch or femme exclusive, bit of both. Bisexual or Lesbian. Non-smoker.

Evan Rosier (5’9”-5’10”) - painfully average floppy-haired blond white boy with a tan. Neutral Evil. Solid build. Grunge music fan. Piercings rather than tattoos. French or British. Ambivert. Demisexual. Prefers edibles or shrooms to smoking.

Regulus Black (5’7”-5’10”) - usually a hair taller than Sirius, but he was shorter by a bit once or twice. Chin-length wavy hair. French. Writer (poetry) and/or musical prodigy. Introvert. Slim to average build. Lawful Evil. Anxiety, OCD, and/or Autistic. Classical music or jazz, nothing with lyrics. I have written him as intersex (or trans in a few WIPs), but usually a gay cis man. Non-smoker, mostly. Social drinker, but overestimates his tolerance.

Sirius Black (5’8”-5’10”) - most attractive amongst the guys. Usually slim, but strong and flexible. Highly intelligent, but easily bored and uninterested in academics. Artistic (painter) and/or musical (percussion instruments). Rock/grunge junkie. Shoulder-length hair and tattooed. Chaotic Good/Chaotic Neutral. Sometimes ADD, often emotionally stunted with abandonment issues. Heavy drinker, occasional smoker.

Mary McDonald (5’8”-5’10”) - depends on the fic, but always in heels so she seems taller. Curvy queen. Most attractive and socially aware of the entire group, extremely trendy, designs/sews a lot of her own clothes, high-femme. Prefers soulful music and light pop. Popular, but keeps her emotions buried. High expectations. Does not suffer fools. Lawful Neutral. Black, British, and extroverted. Natural hair. Social smoker and drinker. Neurotypical. Asexual, unlabeled, Questioning.

Pandora Lovegood (5’-5’3”) - always petite and slim. Long blonde hair, usually loose or in elaborate half-updos (like Phoebe Buffet in Friends). Hippie vibes and high-femme. Usually Autistic. Thoughts on Red, White and Royal Blue? (If you’ve seen it) and also the jegulus parallels?

cw me being a hater LISTEN i am willing to see jegulus parallels in many places but rwrb is not one of them, like seeing either of those characters as james or regulus feels like a stretch 2 me

alas, i did not like rwrb, which is a little disappointing cause i went in just wanting to have a fun time and did not have a single mote of fun (actually that's untrue Zahra was very fun)

4 m3 the things that sell this book are a) how much personality those two main characters have, Henry being the sappy romantic literature/history nerd, Alex being a literal psycho so obsessed with politics he blocks every other thought out of his brain - including any introspection about his own feelings or sexuality and the only thing that can break him out of that is a make-out sess with the british prince (10/10 incredible) b) the family dynamics, Henry and Bea, Alex and June, Alex, June, and their divorced politician parents (like that phone call where Alex rants on the phone to henry about his parents on christmas, was IMPORTANT to me as a child of divorce okay???????)

c) the politics and the whole betrayal and then not betrayal of rafael luna the movie strips all of that away, thinking that the thing that made that book interesting was two hot guys making out and like tbh that is boring 2 me. on top of that the acting was a lil rough in my opinion, the dialogue also a lil rough, and in general the way it was shot, the framing, the lighting, all felt very "sitcom" which just made it harder to like get into it or believe?

they made a whole bunch of changes they didn't need to, that didn't save time but did suck all of the stakes out of the plot which is honestly unforgivable to me

This server was created by 508Looping, the head of the market. Our owner does his best to cater to everyone’s wants and needs. He is a very kind person and he interacts well with our members.

Our co-owner Baphomet is a very kind person. He does a great job at handling behind-the-scenes issues and keeps things afloat and running well. He is pleasant to talk to and has a wonderful sense of humor.

Our very own PR Team Leader, and an Admin, Joker/Jester, oftenly plans events to keep things fun for the people. He effectively organizes the server and plans most, if not all, events and coordinates everything. He is very kind and a great person.

Our other admins, Void, Ari, Cyril, Yo-Yo, Bunny_boi, Nerd, Dorian and Azul, all contribute and help out. While some are more active than others, all of them are very pleasant to talk to, and are enjoyable and interactive. They all do their part in some way, and they’re hard workers. They are very great people and help make the server whole.

Our watchers, Sammy and Averie, are two of the sweetest people in the staff team. They help out whenever they can, and they monitor chats well. They are very well liked members of the server and they are treasured members of the staff.

Our supervisors, River, Emz, Alex, and Space, all help our so much. They are wonderful people, and they’re very treasured to the server. They’re all very accepting and kind people, and they get their jobs done effectively.

Our patrol, Roro, Jaxy, Caeze, Eclipsis, Vixen, Breezy, Cupid, Rain, and Noirs, are very great people. They monitor chats and resolve problems with ease. They’re kind people and very accepting. They will try to help those who ask and succeed often.

Our PR team, Roro, Jaxy, Caeze, Vixen, Void, theresartinlife, Ari, River, Alex, Six(our Co-head of PR), Space, Rose(our very own Discord worker), Regulus, Bear, K4y, all work hard to make the server entertaining and engaging. They work hard on events, interacting with the people, managing social medias, running a podcast, and doing a lot of behind the scenes work. They are great people and a valued group of our staff.

Our council, Panda, Pomegranate(Emrys), Chaoticat, Tina, Krayon eater, Chenford, Shou, Lunar, Krizz/Wright, Ivmi, all work hard to keep their eyes on the server and help out the higher ranks with things. They are all kind people and treat everyone with respect. They are treasured people to the staff.

5. A overall wonderful environment

The people in the server, especially the members, make the server worth joining even if you aren’t looking for fanfiction. They’re such kind and accepting people it feels like a home and safe space to joke and be yourself.

• Regulus has very beautiful, neat calligraphy handwriting and teachers love grading his papers even if it's full of bs because it's just so pleasant to read.

• Surprisingly good with kids.

• He loves Edgar Allan Poe.

• He is a huge literature nerd and often quotes play, novels, poems etc... that he likes. (Only Evan gets most of his references)

• Big fan of Jane Austen.

• Very observant and notices tiny details and quirks about everyone that they don't even know about (James scrunched his nose to push his glasses back up, Lily always has her hair tucked behind her left ear, Sirius chews on the corner of his lip when he's concentrating, Remus will instinctively twirl any pen that is in his hands etc...)

• He's really good a braiding hair/styling it in general because of Sirius.

• He is good friends with Hogwarts' librarian.

• Prone to nosebleeds.

• He really likes reading muggles romance novels.

• He dresses really fucking extra (worse than Sirius) with really fancy frilly lacey shirts with ruffles like a prince, silk waistcoats with elegant gold accessories, rings, chains and earnings.

I'm a straight girl, French-Spanish, a Ravenclaw with hints of Gryffindor. in my free time, I love writing and playing the piano, and in the wizarding world I feel like I would be quite the Quidditch enthusiast. I always forget to check my notifications but I finally saw this !! Somehow I forgot when I asked this but my family planned a trip to the Philippines and we live in a nice rural area, so while the signal has been shit, the stars are amazing 😭

Ik you've mentioned you're into stargazing, and I really want to get into it but there's so much light pollution where I live 😭😭 any tips would be greatly appreciated

Can you take a trip? At a certain point there's just nothing you can do about light pollution. But even driving a few hours could help a lot.

If you do have to plan a getaway and you have the marauders in mind, maybe look up when the best stars are in season? I'm in the northern hemisphere and Sirius isn't currently visible here, so it wouldn't be as fun a time to get into it. (Regulus is though!) You can check your region for when things are visible.

I don't know where you are but hopefully it wouldn't even have to be expensive. Three friends and I split an Airbnb to stay in the woods and I think it was like $100 for the weekend per person all in including lodging and groceries.

I mostly got into it in the beginning by reading articles. There's only so much you can learn by staring up at the sky, most of the info is just learned from the internet. I clicked on every suggested article and subscribed to an astronomy publication's email list. Sky & Telescope is good.

You and Remus met in third year

He had been reading a book you desperately wanted to check out and you couldnt quite muster the courage to ask him for it

Finally you gathered the strength to waltz up to him in the library and ask for it

He apologized saying he just loved the book so much he had read it multiple times

You had been surprised, you had read it before and found it to be a complicated book with an underlying meaning most didn't catch

Yet when you told him you had already read it he instantly began to rant about the camouflaged theme

The two of you launched into a conversation which soon spread from literature to history to art

You had talked for hours, litteratly being kicked out by Madame Prince

You made arrangements to study together for an upcoming potions essay

Remus had headed back to his room with a wide smile plastered onto his face, you did the same.

James and Sirius soon noticed Remus's change in behavior by change, I mean he was just a tad bit nicer than usual

They had pestered him about it constantly until he finally admitted to having met someone new

They of course were extremely annoying about it especially when they learned you were a girl

"So that's where your sneaking off to every night" *wink*wink*

"I'm not sneaking off I'm studying and its usually in the afternoon dumbass."

Him refusing to tell them your name because he knew they would do nothing but pester you

Finally he let's them tag along on a study session or as they call it a study date

You are a bit surprised when you see three more boys sitting at your usal table in the back of the library, but not really.

When you walk over to the table and greet Remus you are met with an outrage

"Shes a SLYTHERIN!"

"I thought you said she was nice!"

"How could you betray us Moony!?"

Your a bit taken aback, not to mention offended by the young boys behavior.

Remus damn near killing them, he immediately leaps into a lecture about the boys closed minds and their complete and utter disrespect, telling them if they are so immature they cant deal with the color of your robes then they can walk out right now.

They both promptly shut up.

He apologized profusely afterwards, you simply brushed it off saying you were used to it

It takes a while for James to grow used to you

It takes Sirius even longer.

You never particularly like Sirius, you were too close to Regulus to be friends with his brother

Remus asked you out at the end of fourth year, knowing he wouldn't be able to wait all summer

You wrote to eachother constantly meeting up many times for dates

He even invited you to go swimming with him and the rest of the marauders

Shirtless Remus was a sight you were not prepared for

You were pretty flustered the whole time, but also pretty good at hiding it

He was terrified to tell you about his lycanthropy

He thought you might leave him

Of course considering how bad the boys were at hiding it and Remus' sudden disappearance for a few days every month, kinda tipped you off by that I mean you had known since the first year you had known him

You never mentioned it though, you knew he would tell you when he was ready

He took you to Paris and the two of you walked around the Lourve for hours

Finally right towards the end or your journey before going home he had dropped what he had thought to be a bomb on you

He couldnt have been happier when you only smiled and told him you already knew and couldnt care less

He loved your freckles, thinks of them as stars graced apon your face by angels, he likes to kiss them

You kiss his scars in return

He likes to wrap his arms around your waist and nuzzle his head into your hair

Will never let go of your hand, squeezes it when he gets nervous

He has to keep you from killing Sirius when you find out he left Regulus alone at the Black household

The two of you nerd out together constantly

You comfort him after full moons, swearing you'll never leave him
