Chaiwala Shop, 41025 Fremont Blvd, Fremont, CA 94538

Monument Shopping Center is very lively at night with lights and signs that remind me of being in India. Several newish eateries opened in this shopping center this year, including Chaiwala Shop. Most of the patrons of this shopping center are Indian.
The menu includes ten kinds of chai, available hot or iced, snacks, coffee, badam masala, pink milk, fresh juices, refreshers, shakes, Maggi masala, Indian burgers, Indian pizza, and Indian sandwiches, etc.
Cardamom masala ($4.50, hot): creamy and sweet. It was sweeter than I expected, but did taste handcrafted. I could see the spices and even the film that sometimes forms on top
Bun maska ($4): a soft round bun (looked like a hamburger bun and tasted like the rolls they use for pav bhaji), split and slathered with butter and cream. It’s sweet and buttery. It was okay. Very simple.
The shop is open late and has free wi-fi but it’s not cozy or comfortable. The chairs are hard. They leave the door open and it’s cold outside and cold and drafty inside. The lights are far too dim and the machine that they use to brew chai seems very noisy.
3.5 out of 5 stars

Navaratri 2024: Embracing Divine Energies in April's Splendor.

For the last Navaratri celebration, the focus was on honoring tradition while adding a modern twist to the culinary delights. Here's a glimpse of the delicious fare that graced the tables during Navaratri 2024 in April:
Sundal Varieties: Sundal, a South Indian snack made from legumes like chickpeas, black-eyed peas, or lentils, was prepared in a myriad of flavors. From traditional coconut and mustard tempering to innovative twists like tangy mango or spicy tamarind, each sundal offered a burst of flavor.
Navaratri Special Thali: A vibrant array of dishes adorned the Navaratri special thali. It featured delicacies like crispy Sabu dana vadas, creamy pumpkin kheer, and spicy potato curry. The thali was a celebration of diverse flavors and textures, symbolizing the richness of the Navaratri festival.
Fruit Chat with a Twist: A refreshing fruit chat received a makeover with a drizzle of honey infused with cardamom and saffron. This sweet and tangy treat was a delightful addition to the Navaratri menu, offering a burst of freshness amidst the rich festive fare.
Navaratri-inspired Mocktails: Cool and refreshing mocktails were served to complement the spicy and savory dishes. Mocktails infused with flavors like rose, mint, and citrus provided a welcome respite from the heat and added a touch of sophistication to the celebrations.
Innovative Desserts: Traditional sweets like coconut ladu and jaggery-based delicacies shared the spotlight with innovative desserts. Guests indulged in decadent offerings like chocolate-dipped bananas adorned with edible gold leaf and saffron-infused rashgullas, elevating the dessert experience to new heights.
Garba: Garba is a traditional dance form originating from the state of Gujarat in India. During Navaratri, people gather in large groups to perform this joyful and energetic dance. Dancers form concentric circles or intricate patterns, clapping their hands and moving gracefully to the rhythm of traditional folk songs. The vibrant costumes and rhythmic beats create an electrifying atmosphere, where participants immerse themselves in the joyous spirit of the festival.
Dandiya Raas: Dandiya Raas is another popular dance form performed during Navaratri, especially in Gujarat and other parts of India. In this dance, participants wield colorful sticks called dandiyas while moving in pairs or groups. The dancers strike their dandiyas in sync with the music, creating a rhythmic pattern of beats. Dandiya Raas is not only a dance but also a social activity that fosters camaraderie and community spirit.
Folk Dances: Apart from Garba and Dandiya Raas, various folk dances from different regions of India are also performed during Navaratri. These dances showcase the cultural diversity of the country, with each region contributing its unique style and repertoire. From the graceful movements of Odissi to the energetic steps of Bhangra, folk dances add a colorful dimension to Navaratri celebrations, reflecting the rich heritage and traditions of India.

Chapter 4
Takeru: As evenly as possible... Oh yeah, beautiful. Every movement should be done with love and elegance.
Ito: Yes.
Inside the store, where a course on bar counter work was being conducted with full attention… Things went smoothly than I had imagined.
Ito: (It's just as they said, he doesn’t let his guard down and settle for mediocrity. Every little detail was checked thoroughly.)
(It feels more like careful instruction than rigorous barbarism.)
Takeru: OK. It’s serving time.
Ito: Sorry to keep you waiting. Here are the mixed nuts.
Shinobu: Thank you.
Oh, it's mixed so evenly and beautifully! Now this is what they call mixed nuts.
I haven’t seen much of this recently, so it's pretty refreshing.
Ito: Is it a menu item that wasn’t served often?
Shinobu: That's not the case, but there are a lot of regular customers who want only the things they like to be served.
By the way, Roka-san’s favorite combination is walnuts and cashew nuts.
Ito: Woah, what a high-calorie combo...
Shinobu: His favorite things tend to have tons of calories like cheap snacks or fast food, and his staple food is sugar, which is nowhere near healthy at all.
Yet he never puts on weight. I wonder why.
Takeru: Well, he makes a lot of unnecessary movements.
Shinobu: Totally.
Ito: (I doubted that reason is enough to convince me.)
(If he’s in his mid-30s with that diet, those beautiful skin and figure are most likely fake...)
Takeru: Speaking of Roka, I wonder what he’s up to these days. He’s still alive and kicking and just goes anywhere.
Shinobu: If you send him a LIME message, you'll get a reply, but it remains a mystery what he’s doing.
The other day, he said, "I had a great idea, I'm going to build a sauna!"
Ito: A sudden construction, huh…
Shinobu: Yuki-san even received a video of him dancing samba in the Indian neighborhood in Singapore.
Takeru: That person is really the same fool no matter where he is. It’s actually a relief.
Shinobu: It makes me feel like he is alive and well no matter how drunk he becomes.
Takeru: If that’s what you grasp then I see no problem. He must have given a more thorough update to Kiho.
Let's just be patient and wait for that cheerful jester to come back in good health.
Ito: Kiho-san... Ah. Arima-san from Negotiation Dept.?
Takeru: Yup. Arima Kiho.
Those two have known each other since before Aporia was established. In fact, the store itself was started by Roka and Kiho.
Ito: I see...
(... So that means Arima-san is essentially the other owner?)
Kiho: Nice to meet you.
Ito: (I thought that personal interview was just like a second interview...)
(If anything, it was a direct interview with the president. Thanks god I hadn’t realized back then, it would have made me even more nervous.)
Shinobu: By the way, Mika-nee was also a member from the start. The rest were Riku-san and Sei-san... Did I get that right?
Takeru: Sei joined later. Well, it was about 6 months, less than a year, so we practically started on the same year.
Shinobu: What! I didn't know that. A shocking truth despite being here for three years.
Ito: (Riku-san is also from the Negotiation Department if I’m not mistaken? .…I guess it's a department with many people who've been here since the beginning.)
Takeru: The shocked one should be me. Third year in and you’ve just learned about this?
But, yeah. It's already been three years since Shinobu came here, huh…... Has it been that long already?
Takeru: Time really flies, doesn't it?
Ito: (...Mika-san?)
Mika-san's tone was normal, but there was something about his words that I couldn’t help but think there’s a hidden implication.
Ito: (I probably shouldn't pry in.)
After deciding my action…. Just as I was about to quietly look away...
Ito: (Ah….)
Mika-san noticed my gaze before I could even do that and gave me a slightly troubled smiled.
Mika: Never mind that. Old story is just going to make me older, so let's stop here.
Ito: It’s okay….
Shinobu: But I love old story that I don't know.
Speaking of the original members... Oh yeah. Maochi-san’s sister was there too, wasn’t she?
Ito: Eh. Really?
Shinobu: Maybe. By the time I joined, she had already quit, so I never get to meet her.
Takeru: Now what is this? You don't know when Sei joined, but you know that?
Shinobu: A while ago, Maochi-san said it while drinking. Uhmmm, it’s definitely not Maki-san…. Maho-san doesn’t ring a bell either...
Takeru: Mayu. The reliable ghost Mayurin, right?
Shinobu: Oh, that's right. Mayu-san!
Ito: The reliable ghost…?
Takeru: A free-spirited person with an unparalleled wandering habit that rivals Roka. Also, her ability to act accordingly and agility on her feet are extraordinary…..
She’s more like an alien than a free spirit, though. Their faces may be similar, but her personality is polar opposite of Mao's.
Shinobu: Nyahaha. I see.
Are you still in contact?
Takeru: Almost never. I send her a message occasionally, and she’ll reply when I've forgotten about it, but seriously, I have no idea what she has been doing.
At least, I get a letter or postcard from her family’s house about once a year saying, "I'm still alive."
Shinobu: So you were reminded of her every time that happens, right?
Takeru: I think so.
Shinobu: I see. That's kind of nice actually.
Takeru: The staff at this store really are like jellyfish, both now and then. They’re always floating around and restless.
Shinobu: Well, this isn’t about Roka-san.
That kind of person probably live happily no matter where they are, right?
So, everything should be alright.
Ito: …….
Takeru: Yeah. Well, once we have a chance to reunion, let's all have a drink together.
We've been talking for a while now. Shall I teach you how to open and pour wine bottle next...?
Ito: Oh. Yes, please.
Takeru: Everything’s alright? I think I just saw your soul leaving your body.
Shinobu: For work’s sake, Gucchi tormented her. There’s just no way she’s not exhausted...
Ito: Oh, I’m fine, really. Thank you for your concern.
Takeru: …….
Ito: Wine lesson, right? Can I borrow your sommelier knife?
Takeru: .…….Sure. It should always be here, so feel free to use it.
Then let's start with the easy one like resin cork
Ito: Yes.
"Everything should be alright." Without trying to figure out what it was, I shook off the indescribable feeling I felt the moment Aizawa-kun spoke those words cheerfully. That is something that I shouldn’t touch. Mika-san probably noticed my curiosity, but he didn't come looking for me either. The training ended without incident, and the atmosphere became peaceful again.
Takeru: …..It must be inconvenient for young lady to have to change clothes in the office bathroom every time. Let's think of something.
Ito: It's pretty spacious and clean, so I have no problem....
……By the way, “young lady”?
Takeru: Hmm? It's a nickname. Calling someone "deputy" isn't very cute.
Milady is too inconvenient for me, so I'll go with young lady. You’re the only girl right now, so I thought it wouldn't be too much of a problem.…. You don’t like it?
I'll listen if you have any name request. How about Cleopatra or Patra for short?
Ito: Ah, young lady is fine. I'm honored actually.
(So it really is a young lady. Thanks god, Shigeta-san was just about to call me "big sister" so I assumed that's what he meant...)
(......Hmm?)
Shinobu: ......Yeah. I'll ask them now.
Knock knock
Shinobu: May I come in?
Ito: Go ahead.
Shinobu: Good work.
Aizawa-kun opened the door and came in. Looks like he’s on the phone with someone.
Shinobu: It’s Akke, seems like everyone from the dorm is having a drinking party tonight.
Takeru: Sure, sure. The same as always, right?
Ito: The same as always?
Takeru: The guys from the dorm often drink and eat at their residence. Me, Mao, and Kou-chan tend to join in too.
Shinobu: Today, Akke, Kou-san…. and Shizuka-san is there too! Would you like to come?
Ito: (Fushimi-san... I haven't had a chance to say hello to him in person yet.)
.….Thanks for the invitation. I would love to join if you don’t mind.
Takeru: Well, I was planning to ride motorbike home today... but I’ll go too! Consider it Ito's welcome party.
Shinobu: Yay. Did you hear that? Yeah, all three of us are going. Anything we should buy? Hmmm...
Ring ring
Takeru: Oh, now it’s my phone’s turn. Excuse me for a bit...
……..Tohru-chan?
Ito: Eh?
Shinobu: From Tohru-san?
Takeru: Apparently….
Takeru: Hello, Mika’s speaking………..….. Hello? Tohru-chan…….... Are you crying?
Shinobu: ………..
Takeru: It's okay, it’s okay. Can you tell me what's wrong?
…….! Right now? Is he heading over there?
Ito: (Could it be……)
Takeru: ...There's no doubt about it.
Kuchiki is near the apartment right now.
Ito: …….!

Victory from the Jaws of Defeat
I learn. I change. I grow ☀️🌴

Food wise today was a strange day.
It started off well - I fasted for 4-5 hours. Was walking home from the coffee shop but decided to get indian snack and chai for a local chai place. I asked them for chai without sugar but for some reason they said they were unable to do that, and assured me it would only have "a little sugar".
My friends, this was the most sugary chai I have had in years.
Needless to say I wont be returning to this establishment in a while. (The vada pav was nice however, but not really something that is going to make sticking to my calorie limit easier).
Then I stopped by at the supermarket, and was having a real brain failure moment. I mean I was going blank on names of friends and famous people and well... it was strange and disconcerting. But I ended up buying a large pizza and chocolate eclairs because I felt I'd be too lazy to cook today and because I guess I wanted them.
Before I had the eclair, I ate some pineapple which was delicious. The eclair itself wasn't that great, and I sensibly decided to get rid of the second one.
Lesson: I'm better off just buying cream and eating it with fruit and maybe some 100% cacoa than buying eclairs or cream cakes.
Then I made the pizza. I was planning on eating the whole thing... but it was really, really mediocre and bland. I mean my low calorie home made pizzas are sooooo much better. So I ate half of it and got rid of the rest.
Lesson: Store bought pizzas are rubbish compared to my home made low calorie pizzas.
How many times do I need to learn this lesson?
After that I ate some boiled and then roasted potatoes with cottage cheese - because I needed something satiating, and the pizza just wasnt going to do that.
Lesson: Satiety is important. Prioritise it especially when you have eaten some food that you know only makes you want to ear more.
And then to close out the day within calorie limits (only 5 calories over), I had a protein shake, followed by fruit and air popped popcorn. I almost went to eat a half a cookie, but in the end chose to go for fruit instead to make sure I stayed within calorie limits AND to feel satiated.
Lesson: Dont be afraid to lean on the protein shakes to get a boost of protein on days where you have under consumed that macro.
Lesson: I am loving fruit more and more. Enjoying it over stuff like chocolate and cookies. The enjoyment is different. More satisfying and nourishing. And infinitely more satiating. Eating fruit leaves me feeling refreshed and full. Eating cookies and chocolate leaves me craving more and sometimes feeling a bit bleh.
So in many ways the behaviours I have chosen today are things I woulndt have done in the past.
I wouldn't have been able to just eat half the pizza, realise it was doing nothing for me and then decided to get rid of the rest.
I wouldn't have chosen to eat fruit over a cookie (or even limit myself to half a cookie).
I wouldn't have made the smarter choices of prioritizing satiating foods I enjoy, over convenient foods that fill some sort of short term gratification and lead to a cycle of bad behaviour.
So I'm putting today down as a big win for:
graceful degradation (not capitulating to some suboptimal decisions)
early stages of a new, healthier way to incorporate less healthy foods into my diet and still stick to the overall plan
making better choices from a place of awareness, enjoyment and self-care, rather than restriction and goal obsession.
I feel like I'm learning, changing, growing.
It's a nice feeling.

Shibuya, Harajuku and Meiji-jingu
Today began at about 10am, where my sister and I met up with my Dad and Brother as they got up earlier than us. We then walked over to Ameyayoko to meet up with them and then headed over to the train station together to go to Shibuya. On the way, we looked up some watch stores as my Dad had his eyes on a Credor watch, and they are pretty hard to find overall, much more so in the US. Though there were a few authorized dealers in Tokyo so we found a shop in Shibuya and decided to head there. However once we arrived in Shibuya we did the usual, saw and walked across the famous Shibuya Crossing, checked out the Hachiko statue, and were amazed at the cyberpunk-esque buildings towering over our heads.

After spending some time walking around and taking it all in, we headed over to the watch store where my Dad picked out a pretty nice looking timepiece. Following this, we split up so my Dad could get his passport so he could have his purchase be tax free. My siblings and I decided to find someplace close to eat, and settled on a tasty looking South Indian restaurant. This was a nice change from the usual Japanese restaurants, as I have been here for about 6 weeks and I have resorted to craving other options. The Indian food was great, we got 4 different curry options paired with a delicious saffron rice and a large portion of Roti. This was great as it was fun to try many different tasting dishes all within the same meal, and the combo of meat, sauce, bread, and rice is literally unbeatable.

After eating, with fully bellies and lots to explore we headed over to the Nintendo store to shop around, followed by a quick stop at the Pokemon Center nearby. This made for a fun time as my sister and brother had never really seen anything like it before. Though I probably still enjoyed it more than they did even though it was my second time here. Once this arc concluded, we still had time to wait for my Father to be back in Shibuya so my sister suggested that we check out the Starbucks location which overlooks the Shibuya Scramble crossing to kill some time. We did just that however, when in line for Starbucks we noticed that there was basically no seats available and I saw a sign for an all you can drink all you can eat (snacks) for an hour with seating upstairs for only about $10. This seemed like the perfect spot to chill out and watch the crossing while refreshing with some nice bevingtons.
We had a lot of fun here just hanging out, and by the time an hour passed my Dad was back in Shibuya, got his tax refund and was ready to explore some more. From here I suggested that we checkout the Meiji Shrine, which was nearby both Shibuya and Harajuku which we also wanted to check out. We then walked through the nice scenic forest up to the Shrine, and while this was my second time here it was nice to see it when it was not raining. The shrine was also a lot less busy today which helped make it feel less touristy and more tranquil as intended. We all enjoyed the Shrine and after we had our fun we headed over to Harajuku.

Once here we walked through the well known Takeshita street and browsed many shops, before making our way out of the less touristy part of Harajuku and into the more local and less kitschy area which I really enjoyed. After doing a lot of shopping and walking through iconic streets, we made our way back to Shibuya to grab some dinner, and we all settled on Hamburg steaks as the rest of my family had never tried them and thought they looked appealing. We had to wait about 15 minutes for an opening here, though it was well worth it as we all enjoyed our meal and it was definitely the best Hamburg steak i have had thus far.

After this we headed back to the hotel where my father and brother decided to stay in as they were quite tired. With it being my sisters last night, we decided to head out to do something fun and attempted to play Maimai at like 4 different places all to no avail as it was too busy. We wound up heading over to a bar nearby which was situated on the 10th floor so we had a nice view of Akihabara at night. It was fun to just hangout for a while and sit down and talk as being in Japan doesn’t leave much time for relaxing aside from sitting down during meals.

Beetroot for Periods: Ways to Include Beetroot in Your Menstrual Diet!
Periods can be a challenging time for many women. From painful cramps and mood swings to fatigue and irregular flow, menstrual health significantly impacts quality of life. One natural way to support your body during menstruation is through your diet. Among the many superfoods known for their health benefits, beetroot stands out as a powerful aid during periods.
In this article, we will explore how beetroot helps during menstruation, its nutritional profile, benefits for hormonal balance, ways to include it in your diet, and tips to make it a regular part of your menstrual care routine.
Nutritional Powerhouse: What Makes Beetroot So Special?
Beetroot, also known as beets, is a root vegetable loaded with essential nutrients. Here's a quick snapshot of its nutritional profile per 100g:
Calories: 43 kcal
Iron: 0.8 mg
Vitamin C: 4.9 mg
Folate (Vitamin B9): 109 mcg
Magnesium: 23 mg
Potassium: 325 mg
Nitrates & Antioxidants
Beetroot is especially rich in iron and folate, which are critical for women who may experience blood loss during their periods. Its high nitrate content also supports blood circulation and oxygen delivery to tissues, reducing fatigue and pain.
Top Benefits of Beetroot During Menstruation
1. Boosts Hemoglobin Levels
Iron is vital for producing hemoglobin, the protein that carries oxygen in your blood. Many women experience low hemoglobin during periods, especially those with heavy bleeding. Beetroot, with its iron and folate content, can naturally boost RBC production and fight anemia.
2. Reduces Menstrual Cramps
Beetroot contains betacyanin, a pigment that has anti-inflammatory properties. By reducing inflammation, it helps soothe the uterine muscles, providing relief from cramps and abdominal pain.
3. Regulates Hormonal Balance
Folate and Vitamin C present in beetroot play a role in hormone synthesis and balance, which can help regulate your menstrual cycle. Proper hormone function ensures timely ovulation and reduces symptoms of PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome).
4. Detoxifies the Body
Beetroot acts as a natural detoxifier, especially for the liver. A healthy liver helps in metabolizing excess estrogen in the body, which is often responsible for bloating, mood swings, and acne during periods.
5. Improves Mood and Energy
Periods are often accompanied by low energy and mood fluctuations. The natural sugars and antioxidants in beetroot provide a gentle energy boost and may enhance dopamine production, improving mood and reducing stress.
Ways to Include Beetroot in Your Menstrual Diet
Adding beetroot to your diet doesn't have to be boring. Here are multiple creative and easy ways to consume this superfood during your periods:
1. Beetroot Juice
The easiest and most direct way. Combine beetroot with carrots, apples, or oranges for a tasty juice.
Recipe:
1 beetroot
1 apple
1 carrot
½ inch ginger
Blend and enjoy fresh in the morning.
2. Beetroot Smoothie
Perfect for a quick breakfast or post-workout snack.
Recipe Idea:Blend beetroot, banana, yogurt, chia seeds, and honey. Add oats or protein powder if desired.
3. Beetroot Salad
Raw grated beetroot with lemon juice, salt, and pepper is refreshing and rich in enzymes.
Add-ons: Walnuts, feta cheese, spinach, and roasted seeds.
4. Roasted Beetroot
Chop beetroot into wedges, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with herbs, and roast until caramelized.
Perfect as a side dish or to toss in a grain bowl.
5. Beetroot Soup
A warm, comforting option during colder months.
Try the classic: Russian borscht or an Indian-style beetroot shorba.
6. Beetroot Chapati/Paratha
Grate beetroot and mix it into whole wheat dough to make colorful, nutritious chapatis.
7. Beetroot Halwa or Dessert
Yes, desserts can be healthy too! Prepare beetroot halwa using jaggery and cardamom. It’s iron-rich and delicious.
Best Time to Start Beetroot in Your Cycle
If you're planning to use beetroot to ease your periods, consider these phases:
Before periods (Luteal phase): Start incorporating beetroot 5–7 days before your expected period. This prepares your body with nutrients and reduces PMS symptoms.
During periods: Continue intake to manage cramps and fatigue.
After periods: Helps in rebuilding blood and boosting energy levels.
Consistency is key for long-term benefits.
Complementary Herbs & Foods with Beetroot
For enhanced results, pair beetroot with other natural remedies:
Ashwagandha: Balances hormones and reduces stress.
Ginger & Turmeric: Combat cramps and inflammation.
Flaxseeds & Pumpkin Seeds: Rich in zinc, magnesium, and omega-3s for hormonal balance.
Amla (Indian Gooseberry): Rich in Vitamin C, boosts immunity.
You can also try herbal formulations like UrjaShakti Syrup, a natural immunity and energy booster that complements beetroot perfectly.
Bottom Line: Embrace Nature for Better Period Health
Beetroot is more than just a colorful vegetable; it’s a natural and effective way to support your body during menstruation. Its nutrient-rich profile makes it ideal for women seeking relief from cramps, hormonal imbalance, and fatigue. Whether you prefer it raw, roasted, or juiced, incorporating beetroot into your menstrual diet is a step towards hormonal harmony and vibrant health.
For women looking for holistic well-being, pairing beetroot with Ayurvedic formulations can provide even more balanced support. At SarabHerbs®, we believe in empowering women with natural, safe, and effective herbal solutions that honor traditional wisdom and modern science.
