Raymond Smith x fem!reader

note: quite obviously inspired by the movie of the same title from 2005. Ray and reader r married and secretly assassins behind each others back, until one day their real identities get exposed n they have to work through what it means for their marriage and relationship.

the whole street knew them as the cute couple that everyone wanted to hang out with during bbq parties, or when football was on and someone invited everyone to come and watch the game in their house. Ray was a gentleman through and through, always prepared, polite and reliable, whereas his other half was the more spontaneous one. She's easily the life of the party, sweet, friendly and warm.

and when they were together they were a sight to behold, Ray was one handsome fucker, slicked back soft hair and a thick beard, broad shoulders and kind yet intense eyes. His other half was simply gorgeous, brimming with youthful mirth, the one that somehow all young children gravitate to, always ready to play with them or offer snacks.

Ray worked as an accountant in the city while his wife was a freelance artist as a cover, but both were actually assassins. She ran her own small business and even got to open a few galleries to show off her art, she was doing well, they were doing well.

until one day they both ended up going after the same target, raymond was settled on top of a building, ready to put a hole in the target's skull until an ice cream van barrelled down the street, hitting the target's car and Raymond cursed. It all happened so fast, a hand poking out of the window of the van holding a gun, and Raymond didn't think, pulling the trigger, missing and nicking the person's hand, making them pull their hand back and shoot with the other, straight at him, almost taking out his left ear. How that person was able to see him from that far, and barely miss, was beyond him.

the next day over dinner, Raymond noticed his wife's bandaged finger, he froze and watched her happily chew the pasta he made and enjoy his homemade garlic bread.

“Love?” He said and she hummed, lifting her head to look at him, mouth full of pasta.

“What happened to your finger?”

She froze and he saw something flash behind her eyes, she quickly chewed and swallowed her mouthful, “Hot glue gun got me,”

“Hm,” He slowly stood up and made his way around their dinner table, standing over her and reaching to hold her hand when she snatched it away, “It's still sensitive.”

“I just want to see how bad is it,” Ray said, tone neutral and stable.

“It's not too bad, I already cleaned it well and wrapped it pretty tight, I can't open the bandage to show you,” She explained, clutching her finger with her hand, and looking at him with her big Bambi eyes. He observed her carefully, about how open and honest she sounded and looked. There's no reason for Ray not to believe her. But then he had a gnawing feeling in his guts, and he learned a long time ago to never ignore it.

So he smiled, “Dessert?”

She lit up, “Yes, please!”

He'll have to investigate later because he really wants to trust his wife, but he knows from experience not to ignore his gut feeling if he wants to keep on breathing. So for now, he'll serve his lovely wife dessert, clean the table and make love to her that same evening, like he always does.

“Where were you?”

Ray was greeted at 4 in the morning in his home by his wife standing in the kitchen, wearing his t-shirt and her undies, looking delicious as ever. if it was any other time Ray would already be balls deep inside his wife's perfect cunt, but it wasn't one of those times.

instead he slammed his duffel down on the counter, in the middle of their kitchen, he opened the bag and took out a brick of clay, the type you can get from art stores, from the same brand that his wife likes the most. he then took his butterfly knife out of his pocket and easily sliced the thing open, and instead of bits of clay falling apart, a neatly wrapped pack of bullets fell with a clank.

“Now, are you going to tell me what the fuck is this?” Ray said, inhaling sharply and pointing at the bullets and the rest in the duffel bag with his knife.

His wife didn't move, her arms crossed over her chest and looking at the bullet pack, then slowly raised her eyes to meet his and he frowned, moving a step back when he was met with icyness.

She unfolded her arms and let them hang at her sides, licking her lower lip as Ray watched, knife in hand and heart hammering in his chest.

“A regular civilian is not capable of finding that out,” She said and Ray’s fingers started itching, he was hot all over under his clothes and he was so close to doing something he's never done to the love of his life, to his wife, ever.

“A regular civilian also can't own devices that can't be traced, or work in a company that doesn't fucking exist,” She spat, her previously warm eyes emitting nothing but danger, and all bells in Ray's mind rang loud and clear; he needed to kill her before she kills him.

It all happened so fast, her snatching one of Ray's fancy butcher knives that are magnetised to the wall and dodging Ray throwing the duffel bag at her. Knives sliced the air between them and Ray charged at his wife with everything he got, not holding back, twirling his knife quickly and fast in his fingers, from one hand to the other as he slowly walked her further inside the house, his wife walking backwards, knife in hand and a wild look in her eyes.

She grinned sharp and predatory, “No wonder you're so good with your fingers,”

Ray couldn't hold back his laugh, “What can I say, I'm a natural.”

“How did you figure it out?” She asked, the back of her knees hitting the sofa.

“Be honest, how did you hurt your finger?” Ray asked.

“Gunshot,” She answered and Ray didn't know whether to be relieved or concerned.

“Sorry, babe. Didn't mean to nick you.” He said and watched as her eyes darkened, “You dickhead! Why did you shoot me?! I was after a fucking terrorist!” She shouted, almost giving him a new haircut as he dodged the knife, Ray knocked her off her feet, she fell with a grunt. “It's just protocol, eliminating anyone who gets between me and the target,”

Ray was about to grab her when she wormed herself away at a fast speed, pushed her body up with ease and balled her fists in front of her, jumping on their glass coffee table, “What sort of fucking company do you work for? I could've been a civilian!”

“Listen– get your feet off the coffee table!” Ray warned.

“Fuck the coffee table, it's ugly anyway!” She spat and slapped the knife off his hand quickly, and as soon as he lost his knife he jumped her, her own butcher knife flying in the air and landing buried in the sofa.

Ray fought to hold her still but she was strong and squirmy, hitting him with her elbow on his side, a gasp was punched out of him and he decided then to not hold back, Ray gathered her in his arms and threw her across the room, breaking the window and bringing down the blinds.

When she got her footing back, she glared at him with the power of fifty suns, “I can't believe you hit your wife, Ray.”

“Last time I checked my wife wasn't an assassin,” Ray said, throwing his coat on the sofa and unbuttoning the first 4 fout buttons of his shirt, then rolled the sleeves watching his pretty wife wrap a ripped piece of fabric around both of her wrists, “Your hypocrite, you're an assassin too! And your name is probably not even Raymond Smith either!”

She grabbed Ray's favourite potted plant and threw it at his head, as he dodged the hit, he found himself embraced by his wife, her legs wrapped around his waist and arms wrapped around his shoulders, “You know that won't work-” His voice quickly got cut off when she squeezed his neck with the remainings of the blinds, the white fabric pulling tight at his thick neck as he clawed at her to let go.

“Did you even love me? In those 5 years of marriage, was anything real?” She asked, squeezing harder until Ray slammed them both down on the ground, bruising her back, she screamed and he took that second to get her hands off him, finally gulping oxygen into his lungs, “Yes! Yes, I fucking did!”

“Then why didn't you tell me?! Why did you hide??” She shouted, eyes brimming with tears at being slammed down on her back, but also at the anger at being lied to.

“To protect you, that's why! I can't tell my bride I was a killer, what sort of girl would marry a man like that?!” Raymond said, hovering above her, hair dishevelled and eyes wild.

She then started giggling, giggling for the love of God. “Ray, my love, the light of my life,” She said, holding his face in her hands, Ray feeling his chest burn at the overwhelming emotions he was feeling, “You told me you were an accountant and I married you. If a girl is willing to marry an accountant, she'll marry an assassin,”

Ray didn't mean to laugh, his eyes burning with unshed tears as she brought his face lower and kissed him gently on the lips, and for a moment everything was okay.

That's when she decided to grab him and flip them around, squeezing his head between her thighs and pulling at his arm, hard.

“Even though I really did love you. Don't even think I'll let you go, now. I'm not a civilian, baby, and you'll do well to remember that.” She threatened and Ray grinned, he won't have her any other way.

He brought his free arm up and squeezed at her naked thigh, “Are we fighting or fucking? I'm getting mixed signals here.”

“Oh, can it, Mr Smith,” She squeezed his head tighter, cutting off his oxygen as he gasped and relaxed her hold, just to give him a taste of what's to come if he tries to run away.

Their short moment of peace was erupted with a rain of bullets. Raymond both threw them on the ground, under the range of the gunfire.

“What the fuck!” She cursed and when the gunfire finally stopped, Raymond dragged her up the stairs and the gunfire resumed as they tried not to get hit, “Meet me in my studio, okay?” She said and Ray nodded, turning to get to their bedroom, to probably, well, most definitely get a gun. She was about to turn around when he grabbed her by the back of her neck and kissed her hard, when he pulled away she grinned, her cheeks warming up.

“Go on, then.” He smirked, patting her cheek and sneaking to their bedroom as she made her way to the studio, quickly grabbing every hidden weapon in the room and shoving it all in a backpack, she opened the window and hopped on her desk, and looked outside, immediately spotting guys from her organisation, and others most definitely from Ray's firm. And, they definitely weren't here for tea.

She quickly loaded her gun and waited on her desk for Ray, the wind making her shiver under her t-shirt and undies. She was totally barefoot too, but she'll worry about that later.

“Mr. & Mrs. Smith! Come out whenever you are! You know the rules! No banging the competition!” A voice called out and she cursed under her breath, then gunshots resumed, in that moment Ray walked inside the studio, greeted by her gunpoint, “Let's go,” He placed her pair of Uggs in her lap and nodded at the window facing their garage.

“That's what took you so long? My fucking shoes?“ She said, quickly slipping them on and hopping out of the window, walking slowly on the roof to then jump down behind the house. “You're not walking barefoot in the streets, it's really unsanitary.” Raymond said, disgusted.

They sneaked inside the garage, getting inside the car, Ray in the driver's seat and her in the passenger's, with the two bags of weapons and other stuff by her feet as the garage door opened up automatically, catching the attention of the other assassins, “Put your seatbelt on,” Ray said, absolutely running over anyone jumping in front of their Mercedes as she shot them out of her window, Ray driving furiously down their street.

“You got me shoes but didn't think to get me trousers?” She said, pointing at her lap, she was still wearing underwear.

“You look great, don't worry.” He shrugged as she glared at him, “My ass is freezing, just so you know.”

“I'll warm it up for you later.” Ray said, smoothly driving down the empty road, looking at the rear mirror every minute or so, making sure they were not being chased.

I really wanted to write something for like secret spy AU or something. but didn't know how to do it. only that I wanted it to be funny n sexy in a way. so I luckily remembered that Mr and Mrs Smith 2005 was still in my watchlist. so I watched the movie and immediately wrote this after finishing the movie. and I used Ray Smith cuz his name is ALREADY smith and I'm in love w him so yeah 😍😩

what if when an elemental master gives birth, their powers don't just instantly go to their kid, but it slowly saps away from them until their child is old enough and strong enough to handle the full intensity of the element.

what if that's why lilly got sick? she was so utterly connected with her element, it was embedded deep into her bones, it should've taken a long time for cole to fully achieve the full element, yet because cole was meant to be one of the protectors of the green ninja, one of the most powerful elementals of creation-

it didn't take long for lilly to realize why she was getting sick, at first she thought it was the earth getting sick- that's what happened to her father after all, when the earth got sick so did he, and that's why lilly inherted her element as young as she did but as she was dying and her son was getting strong she knew it was because of him. she never blamed him- she wondered why it was cole- why it was her who got this sick- why cole got that strong-

the element erroded itself away from lilly's bones- from her very soul, until she got sick, and cole just kept on getting more and more powerful and stronger as his mom got weaker and weaker. maybe that's why lou couldn't stand to look at cole for so long- why he avoided their home- bc he knew cole was in part, responsible for lilly's death.

what if that's why libber left jay at the walkers? maybe she thought there was a way to stop him from inheriting her powers- she knows how volatile her element is, how shrieking and blinding and buzzing lightning is. it was a double edged sword, leaving her son and cliff for the sake of them- seperating their little family just so her element wouldn't pass onto her son. she scoured the world to figure out a way to keep her powers to herself- to keep it so jay wouldn't end up like her- blind and shaky and unsure.

she tried so many spells and home remedies and just about anything to protect him. but she knew all of her effort was pointless. she can't tell you when she figured it out, but one day she just felt weak and sickly and her lighting didn't feel as volatile as it used too- she knew jay- her sweet little blue jay- had inherted her powers.

it didn't occur to her until it was too late that jay should've only been about fourteen- maybe fifteen- when most of herelement was depleted. it took libber until she was nineteen- maybe twenty when she had full access to her powers.

what if that's why zane had never met the ice elemental before him? or any other? of course the previous ice elemental was old, probably nearing his death when he gave his element to zane. instead of the ice slowly sapping away like it would've for a blood relation, it was near instantaneous. the ice elemental knew this- it was a tradition for the ice elementals- one he wasn't able to pass on in note or word- the instant disappearence of his element is what brought him to his death.

he had high hopes for zane, that's why he chose him. he's heard of dr. julien through his sister, about the man who can create things out of thought alone. it mystified the ice elemental, and when he met dr. julien's son, he knew, he knew that zane was the one to bare his element, and maybe the last one too.

elements are meant to be passed on- especially the elements of creation - they're not meant for one sole body to bare for years upon years, it deteriorates them as much as it powers them. but zane was a robot- his machinery like no other- and with the core of an ice elemental- he would live on for generations without fear of erosion to his body.

and something nagged at the old ice elemental, he could blame on wu if he tried, the man's superstitions finally herding their way to his mind- but something told him that zane would be unlike the other ice elementals- that his generation of elementals would be like no other before- maybe they'd be more powerful or experience more wars than his ever did- he'll never know until he meets them in the afterlife.

what if that's why it took kai so long to control his powers- for wu to find him and nya? even though their parents went missing and pressumed dead, they were still alive. ray and maya's powers were slowly seeping away from them as they worked for krux, but that was the only way they knew their kids were still alive- the only thing to keep them sane, knowing their kids were somewhat okay while they were out there.

what if that's why it took wu so long to tell nya of her heritage? or her element? wu was so focused on the elements of creation of the formidable source of them all- that he neglected nya's element. the boundless sea- powerful and destructive in its own right. it was something he had no control over- he knew all about the elements of creation but barely anything about how nya's work- only that as beautiful and habital the ocean can be, it can be devastating and damaging as well.

despite their parents powers slowly seeping away, kai and nya are powerful just like the others, both in their own right. kai bc he harnesses an element of creation and nya bc her element knows no bounds. like the others, their powers have always been with them, even before they knew it. kai always held warmth and searing heat in his hands only tempered by shoving or punching someone, and nya always moved fluidly- their neigbhors always called nya a fish out of water - her tember knew no bounds, neither did her beauty.

what if that's why lloyd is the first person to harness his element? of course, the prophecy always said that "a ninja who would rise above all others and become the savior of ninjago." but everyone, even wu, thought it would be one of the others, someone who harnessed one of the elements of creation already- not some kid who just so happened to be the grandson of the first spinjitzu master-

in hindsight, it makes more sense than it should. lloyd has the empthay of a human child and the power of a god- the best of both worlds, some may say. his power in itself is unstable- it's hard to control unless you've been doing it your entire life.

as lloyd grew stronger, the others did too. their powers grew as their parents grew weaker, just so they'd be ready for when lloyd became of age- when it was time for him to defeat the dark lord. when lloyd skipped up a few years because of the tommorow's tea the ninja felt a rush of their power come forth- it was odd and weird and they couldn't explain why- they thought they already unlocked all of it when achieving their true potentials, but appearently not.

as much as the elements of creation is embedded into each of it's user, it's also engraved into lloyd. when he gets weak, so do their powers. as they grew and got older, it become unnoticeable, they all had gotten better control over their powers, over when and when not to use them.

lloyd isn't meant to pass down his power- not ever. it's too much for a child- a human one, at least. and if fallen into a god's soul, it would make them power-crazed. his generation may very well be the last of the elements of creation- at least to the power that they hold. he's seen scrolls that wu has written, documenting his experience with them, and how they're unlike their parents- more powerful than them- at least from when they're young.

maybe their powers aren't meant to be passed on, any of theirs.

maybe it's for selfish reasons or selfless.

maybe they'll end up becoming oxidized statues- only living on in stories, their powers extravaganted.

or maybe they'll outlive everyone.

Kai, Nya and their Parents - The Difference between knowing and not knowing what you're missing - and the sacrifices made by a caring brother

The day Nya was brought home - the day Kai met Nya face to face for the first time; Kai is two (Hands of Time, episode 3, A Time of Traitors)

Three years later

Ray and Maya are kidnapped, thus forcing Kai to take on the responsibility of becoming a five year old Dad aka the death of Kai's babyhood and childhood so as to preserve Nya's babyhood and childhood (Hands of Time, episode 8, Pause and Effect)

Thirteen years later

Kai and Nya are reunited with their parents (Hands of Time, Episode 8, Pause and Effect)

Three years later (vid from Seabound, episode 2, The Call of the Deep)

Though Kai had pointed out that Nya and Maya did not get along (due to Nya's independence from having grown up without her parents); at Master Wu's insistence, Kai calls in his mother to help Nya with her power problem.

Nya, however, dislikes Maya's mothering (what she considers babying).

When Wu suggests that Nya should discuss her issues with Kai, Nya insists with scorn that Kai likely enjoys being waited on and loves to be treated like a baby.

(Note how Nya goes from the probability statement of "probably, likes, being waited on" to the presumption in her absolute statement of "I bet he loves being treated like a baby" -- Nya, please tell me if this is your thoughts on your brother who raised you and gave up everything for you then when has he ever previously behaved in such a way that would suggest your statements to be true.)

The difference here is that Kai remembers what it was like to have someone taking care of him only to have it ripped away - to go from being the baby boy to suddenly having to be the adult for his sister.

Nya, though, doesn't really remember what it was like to be cared for by her parents; but, she remembers what it was like to be cared for (by her brother).

Kai is, in a way, reveling in the joy of being able to play games with his father, eat food cooked by his mother, and learn once more from his parents.

All things he hoped for but never once thought he'd ever have again.

While growing up, Nya was likely allowed to play games, eat homemade food that she didn't have to cook, and learn from Kai the lessons that he remembers their parents teaching them.

Kai on the other hand, had to get straight to work, schedule time in a busy day to cook so that Nya could eat, and be the one to teach trusted lessons from his parents (while likely having to weed out good advice from bad, given to him by whichever random adult decided to give it to him).

Kai's sacrifices for Nya can even be seen in the clothes they wear in the pilot.

When we first see Nya it looks like she's dressed in silk clothes which we know didn't come from Maya's closet since she generally dresses in blue.

Kai on the other hand is introduced in his blacksmithing clothes and goes to train with Wu, in his blacksmithing clothes, which may indicate a limited closet - he may even be wearing his Father's clothes as a way to save money.

But, you might say, he has different clothes in the episode, The Royal Blacksmiths.

Yes, he does have different clothes, but these clothes, like his and the Ninja's matching pajamas (color coded but with the same golden dragon on the chest pocket) are likely the result of Kai now being able to lean on Wu, financially.

Note that Kai's clothes are the only ones that indicate his elemental power - the others likely already had these clothes on hand before they met Wu (except maybe Zane - IDK).

Another way Kai's sacrifices and generosity torwards his sister can be shown is by comparing the first pilot episode to the Season 2 episode 6, Wrong Place, Wrong Time.

In this episode it is shown that, were it not for Nya getting kidnapped by Garmadon, Kai would never had cared about becoming a ninja.

It was only the knowledge that becoming a ninja was the only way to save Nya that motivated Kai to become a ninja.

Yet in a timeline where Nya was never kidnapped, all Kai cared about was getting the blacksmith shop back on its feet after the Skulkin attack.

So how did Wu convince Kai to come to the Monastery, the answer, he didn't - Nya did.

Wu unintentionally convinced Nya to become a ninja and since Kai wasn't just going to let her go off on her own (this is his fourteen year old little sister who he raised after all) Kai went with her so they could become Ninja.

Kai gave up what he wanted in favor of what Nya wanted.

Kai's sacrifices, his giving nature, and everything he does for Nya is almost practically an automatic habit, because he and Nya lost their parents at a young age thus forcing Kai to give up being a child to be Nya's caretaker.

And yet throughout the series whenever the siblings bring up their parents, it becomes clear that Kai made sure that Nya never forgot them and that they were remembered well, that they were missed and not forgotten.

I really like Nya; and while Seabound is a great season it also points out that Nya may just be truly unaware of how much Kai sacrificed for her to the point where she doesn't understand exactly why Kai likes having their parents around; among other details that she and others misunderstand about Kai.

Believe me, I like the idea that Nya knows and helps her brother out where she can, and she definitely loves him, but it seems like Seabound has shown her to be unaware of Kai's trials and tribulations in raising her and keeping them both from landing in the grave of the fireflies.

I have a small headcanon that Kai didn’t style his hair like fire because of his own element or because he found fire cool, but because of his father.

Kai styles his hair to be more like his father. To embody that same passion and protectiveness and love that his father held so naturally and he wanted. Not just for himself, to help remember that man and to be like the person he looked up to the most, but for Nya. Nya needed a father. Nya needed to know how it all felt. Nya needed to understand somehow how Kai felt about Ray. About what he experienced.

So, for Nya, he embodied what he remembered of his father. And for himself, he turned his image into something he wanted to make his father proud of.

Kai, no matter what he does, deeply loves and missed his parents more that anything and the effect of them leaving was much deeper then he let anyone notice, but that was eventually revealed during season 7 (time twins season). Nya obviously was effected but she didn’t have as many memories nor did she have a close enough bond from when she was younger for her to react just as similarly to Kai (again, she WAS effected because thats her parents and she definitely missed them too) but Kai had many issues he suppressed over the years that came to the surface the moment he heard that his parents (supposedly) left them on purpose. He was so hurt by that that he began making the same rash and impulsive decisions he did in the first season.

(He seems to often do that when his family is involved, doesn’t he? First it was when Nya got kidnapped and he ran off to the temple of fire, attacking his parents in that cabin they lived in, when Cole fell off the ship and he immediately went to try turn it back around, when Zane died and literally EVERYTHING he did after, i can’t think of any for Jay but maybe when Jay was slowly losing it in the first realm and Kai started freaking out cause of it, and the way he’s willing to take risks to his own life for Lloyd in general.)

I think when he was younger, he often saw how passionate his father was. He was like a living flame that always warmed them all, never burning their hands every time they reached for him. Kai held onto the memories of his father working closely with the flames on their blacksmith’s, always treating it like an old friend, having a silent conversation no one can hear. He spent time sitting and just watching his father, happy with just that. He clearly remembers the way his father’s eyes were always so bright. So hopeful for the future (and the he got kidnapped and enslaved so…but at least his kids saved him! (one tried killing him))

He remembers the way his father held them protectively, always keeping them safe. He remembers the way he loved so fiercely for his mother and his sister. He felt that same love for years until it was ripped away from him, and then tainted.

The fire that they shared, once something he didn’t understand and then later having become both a connection to his father and a burden of a man he believed was rotten for a short time, was now something he can also have conversations with that no one but him and one other can understand.

I think the first person to calm Wu dad was Nya. And in my full opinion, Wu and Garmadon are both father figures to the smith siblings, Nya was closer with Wu, and Kai was closer to Garmadon.

Kai is closer to Garmadon for one sole reason; Garmadon knew how to talk Kai down from his rage better and was the first to get Kai to consider spending more time on ways of rerouting his anger.

Wu and Nya on the other hand accidently enable eachother but also help eachother. They both over work themselves while trying to help the other and it they just tire eachother out.

When Ray and Maya came around Ray only felt slight jealousy towards the spinjitzu brothers until he actually took a step back and noticed facts about his kids he didn't before, and tried to use that to create a closer bond with his kids.

Maya on the other hand butted heads with Wu and Misako alot because they seemed to over ride her authority on anything she did with her kids... To be fair, Nya took awhile to warm up to her, and the spinjitzu brothers + Misako saw how much she spoiled Kai and paid attention to him and wanted to keep it from affecting Kai as a ninja.

(I have nothing even against Maya, I just saw her in seabound and she gave me weird boy mom energy during the beginning of seabound.)
