Quick ramble before we begin: excluding mastered mixes of Desert Song and Bury Me In Black is EVIL!

Helena - 10/10

I'M GOING TO FUCKING COMBUST THIS IS SO GOOD–THE INTRO, EVERYTHING. AND YOU CAN HEAR MIKEY?! *screams* Gerard also says more over the outro?! I'm pretty sure he's saying, "What's that? Hey! What's that you say? Why don't you say it louder so I can hear you, fucker!"

Prison - 100/10

I was so excited to listen to Prison once I got confirmation that Revenge was being remixed. I don't know why, but I was. This remix has probably solidified this as my fav song from this album. ALSO, FRANK'S SCREAMS AND RAY?! LIKE OMG YOU CAN HEAR THEM.

I'm Not Okay - 10/10

Once again, sounds the same to me, but it's good nonetheless!

The Ghost of You - 100/10

I legit almost started crying in class because of how amazing this sounds. The guitar, Gerard's vocals. I also never noticed the whispers in the background! YOU CAN HEAR MICHAEL JAMES WAY. I also feel lik there are more synths than before.

Hang 'Em High - 10/10

As I've already mentioned, I listened to this while I was in class. On my paper, and while the intro was playing, I wrote: hope they turn up that one guy's vocals - did they? Yes or No," intending to circle yes or no if they turned them up AND THEY DID! If you don't know what I'm talking about, during the bridge, the "guy" I mention is Keith Morris of Black Flag (his name escaped me in the moment) is telling a story his dad had told him as a teenager. It's still not *that* clear, but he's louder now!

Fashion Statement - 9/10

The mix is amazing, but get's a point deducted bc it's not my fav Revenge song (sorry!) "I'VE LOST MY FEAR OF FALLING" OMG FAV PART.

Cemetery Drive - 10/10

VOCALS AND I CAN HEAR MIKEY OMG.

I Never Told You What I Do for a Living - ∞/10

The change in tempo around the bridge is just AUGH. And I know this is in the original as well, but omg that was so good!!! If you thought I almost started crying during TGOY, I almost started crying here, too. THE GUITARS IN THE BRIDGE MAKE ME FEEL SO DEPRESSED IDK WHY!!!

Conclusion

This makes me think they might be testing the waters to see how we react to remix albums–maybe to decide if they should release more in the future? Maybe they’re even planning to play some of the songs on tour in addition to TBP? Who knows! MCR is such a strange entity that lives in its own little world. This could also just be their record label trying to grab a little extra cash. Either way, this was amazing and I loved it :))

Pilkington: 1/10. mostly thinks it’s bullshit. but a tiny part of him believes it (though he’d never admit that). might start to believe it a little more if he had reason to but would still die before he admitted it

Best: 9/10. literally the complete opposite of Pilks. he believes it and he openly admits it. but there’s always a tiny nagging doubt in the back of his mind which, of course, would go away the second he met someone he’s utterly crazy about who loves olives (cuz let’s face it, there’s no way this guy likes olives)

Dundy: 5/10. he’s on the fence about it. he doesn’t know what to think but he’s absolutely up for evidence that will convince him it’s real (maybe in the form of Fitzjames or Gore? 😉)

Armitage: 27/10. absolutely 100% believes it but would never admit that to another living soul. even if his life depended on it

Irving: 7/10. his faith believes more in love and commitment than soulmates so publicly, he doesn’t believe it. inside, it’s a little constant battle. deep deep down, he wants it to be true (because Tozer loves olives and he doesn’t) but to him, finding his soulmate is a one-way ticket to intimacy. and that shit’s scary

Blanky: 0/10. will show genuine interest when talking about it with someone who does believe it despite personally thinking it’s utter crap. might prompt them on certain things but won’t try to change their opinion

Gore: 5.5/10. he seems like a practical person so I’m gonna say he knows it can’t be true. but he’d also love to have a soulmate (and for it to be that easy to identify them)

Jopson: -20/10. doesn’t believe it. never has. never will. he doesn’t need some theory to tell him if someone’s his soulmate… he just knows (not saying any names here. you already know who it is)

it's time for my yearly chanukah merchandise ratings! how are there always so many to choose from. as always, this year is a doozy and I am as bitter as ever lmao

If you ever catch yourself wondering hey, why doesn't this TV show ratings chart square with my memory of how things actually went down, it's because in the vast majority of cases, when a show goes off the rails, the ratings don't take a dive immediately.

First they have to burn through the established audience's "wait, maybe they're going somewhere with this" optimism, then they have to burn through the established audience's "maybe it's just a mid-season slump" benefit of the doubt, then they have to burn through the established audience's "well, there aren't that many episodes left" morbid curiosity, and only then do the viewership numbers suddenly fall off a cliff.

It actually takes a lot of work to alienate your entire viewership in one go – mere mediocrity isn't gonna cut it!

I was only recently made aware of this Mozilla tool that came out last year and it's great. In a nutshell, Fakespot can analyze reviews from popular shopping sites (amazon, ebay, walmart, shopify sites, sephora, and best buy are featured as supported) and figure out the most likely "real" ratings by identifying bot ratings. It uses AI to do this but it's run on their servers, not your computer (a good use of AI for once).

You can install browser extensions or use the app. The iOS app is kinda lousy from my experience but the site works great.
