This post contains spoilers for the Vampire Chronicles book series.
I keep seeing people talking about characters who are gonna show up in the next season of Interview with the Vampire talk about Akasha being like "omg she's such a diva girlboss slay queen" and like. Folks she's a TERF. And also a colonist. Like she's not some misunderstood Eve figure she literally order two women be raped after killing their entire community because she was angry she didn't have access to their closed religious practices her philosophy is morally bankrupt and hypocritical.

I'm turning 21 soon so my time is swiftly running out to meet a dude who claims to be a vampire and instead of getting the fuck away from this clearly insane man I go home with him and listen to his life story and then he tries to eat me bc I wanna be a vampire too. I live, so I go try to find his crazy ex but accidentally find his other crazy ex and he locks me in a basement for a couple of days and then stalks me across the world for a couple of years but then we fall in love and he feeds me his weird psychedelic blood and we're together now but also I'm addicted to his magical vampire blood. And also he buys me an island.
This is a pivotal experience that every 20 year old should have. I don't want to miss out.

Reading qotd totally out of order because I was just looking for a certain passage and excited to see Louis and Lestat making out backstage before Lestat's concert.

Devil's Minion flashback hint in Episode 2x04 Preview
Spoilers from the 2x04 preview below:
: : : : : :
So . . . I think this is a shot of young Daniel, wrapped up in plastic and duct tape:
Tumblr media
And it was Armand who did it and who young Daniel is looking up at here:
Tumblr media
So I already suspected that Armand locking Daniel up in a cage like he did in the book wasn't going to happen in the show, and this would be the equivalent -- Daniel trapped in Armand's apartment instead. But wrapping Daniel up in plastic and duct tape first? Yikes.
My speculation:
Now, in the books, Armand locked Daniel up in a cage for something like 3-4 days before letting him go -- with the threat of killing him at some point -- and officially starting their chase. But because during the shooting of Season 2, there was no indication that Luke and Assad filmed anywhere other than Prague, I don't think we'll see that part of the chase yet. And, instead, Daniel will be "locked up" for a much longer period at first.
I'm also starting to get the feeling that the timeframe of the chase vs when they officially became a couple will be the same in the show as it was in the books. Their cat-and-mouse lasted for 4 years, and then they officially became a couple for 8 years after that before Daniel was turned, (or, in the show's case, let go), going from the age of 20 to the age of 32 by the end -- a span of 12 years of his life in total for it all. I thought at first that the show might condense the timeline of the chase, but I'm starting to think they won't.
So if Daniel is kept in the apartment for longer than 3-4 days, that would be part of the 4-year chase timeline.

actually let’s talk about dream guardians because EA calling them “heart’s desire” or whatever has been on my mind for AGES. what do y’all’s tav’s guardians look like and how do they relate to your tav, if they do at all?

so lyctors are infertile yes? at least mercy appears to be, and it's strongly implied that the reason is her lyctorhood. all necromancers are known to struggle w fertility (see: harrow's parents) which iirc is bc of their link to death, so i'm guessing actually having an ever-dying/ever-living soul combo meal is not to the benefit of conception.
the reason this matters to me is that anastasia (who, as a post by @ferretsarefurryappendagedsnakes brought up, is NOT listed as a saint to serve the king undying in the htn opening) did have children. she's harrow's direct ancestor, hence alecto king-konging her at the end of nona. she is the only lyctor we know of to have living descendants. now the details on exactly what the lyctoral timeline was post-resurrection are murky, but i do imagine it taking less than their natural lifespans for all the lyctors to ascend and anastasia to fail. that means anastasia's line has been around for 10,000 years, give or take - ~400 generations. For context, the Western Roman Empire fell 60-70 generations ago. For her to still have living descendants (especially with the known fertility rate of necromancers and the fact that necromancy appears to be inherited, at least in part) is absurd. it's ridiculous to think harrow's the only descendant - i mean, even being mega-conservative about birth rates, there could be dozens, if not hundreds. some of the babies from the genocide might well have been the blood of anastasia.
it must be fucking insane for the lyctors to see harrow, to have lived with her for months. she's supposedly the spit of anastasia. 10,000 years, 400 generations, and she's right there.
basically i'm desperate for someone (ideally alecto, bc it's totally in character for her) to have a QoTD Great Family moment and realise exactly how long 10,000 years is for people and how many of anastasia's descendants are alive. maybe some of them even escaped the nine houses? idk, it just makes me emotional and i want it to make THEM emotional

I'm 99.9% sure happens after the bite... What if Armand offers Daniel his blood to 'help' him after this, and we all know how that goes

In a way the one bit of spirit of Daniel’s book turning scene we actually get in 2x08 is Daniel being in contact with Louis and Louis kind of welcoming him into the blood.
The vision Armand gives Daniel in the book is just so beautiful, it’s like they’re getting married and Louis is there as a witness, all those vampires gathered to greet Daniel as he moves through the gates. And yeah it’s only a dream but god Daniel being so ecstatic to see that vision of Louis and kissing him on both cheeks is so precious. That’s his best friend!!! Armand knew he would want Louis there specifically, in spirit even if he couldn’t be physically. It makes me sick to my stomach especially after the show scene of Louis inviting Armand to witness Madeleine’s turning, saying that maybe it could be beautiful! Just. The idea of Louis in some way being the witness Armand couldn’t be for him.

okay. just rambling here, but, i think armand took more than just the end of the interview away from daniel.
we got that little moment about that night, saying 'you asked me to' to louis. 'you asked me to take this from you, you could not live with it,' leading into, 'i look after you when you cannot look after yourself, i make those choices for you.'
we know that during the chase and devil's minion era, daniel was an addict, who was, by his own admission, slowly killing himself. he was also addicted to blood.
it's really not too far to make the jump, if devil's minion occurred, that armand made the choice to step in, in his own mind, for daniel's best interests. i know this isn't a unique jump to make, but; again with armand's "i look after him when he cannot look after himself" continual reiteration, i think it's a fair assumption.
he can also replace and blur memories, which makes the discussion of alice and paris -- why the dessert from that night? -- and how immediate and sincere his answer of "she wanted to say yes, but she didn't trust you. you hadn't given her a reason to." this could be the night he took them away, replaced himself with alice, planted something similar for her to start the relationship, then step back and watch it fall. and i think the thing that stands out there is just how tender he is while saying it. there's an undercurrent of something else entirely underneath, it isn't a dig at daniel in the moment, despite the pushing earlier in the scene.
and then in s1, when louis say to daniel, "i'd give it to you now." and the cut to armand, still in disguise, and his micro-expression of horror, the way he stiffens and looks away... and the little moment of what i read as conflict when daniel says no. his jump to "may i be excused?" i can't tell in the moment, if he's horrified about the offer itself, the fact that it is louis offering to turn daniel rather than himself, or the fact that daniel denies it. because i don't think armand could actually let daniel die if this was the case.
the disguise itself-- why pretend to be rashid? i think part of it is to try and hide behind a human persona to keep those memories at bay; especially given the little moments of flashback that got triggered by little mannerisms. i can't decide whether they're intentional pushes or not, whether armand wanted/wants daniel to remember on his own, or wants to keep it under wraps. i think, even if he believes he doesn't want it to come forward, he truly does deep down.
and once he's revealed himself as armand, the way he gazes at daniel, his beautiful boy. the continued "our boy", from both he and louis, the "he's still in there, somewhere..."
and i think "our boy" is also really interesting, because why would daniel be armand's boy, based solely on the moments that louis initially remembered? armand didn't really have any emotional connection to daniel that night, sure, he saved him, but that doesn't really mean anything; he saved daniel for louis, not for daniel's sake.
and, jumping back "our boy,[...] he's still in there somewhere"... there's implication that louis might know about it? again, i don't think this is related to the original interview, or at least, limited to it? i don't have anything concrete here, just vibes, but again, why is armand's boy still in there somewhere?
and sure, some of these are reaches and i don't think i'm necessarily right, but god it would be deliciously awful if i was.
