Lmao sorry pissa and death family nation for being somewhat inactive, take these headcanons that probably don’t align with canon as compensation

THIS IS ABOUT THE CHARACTERS NOT CONTENT CREATORS BTW

Not a single person in the Death Family is warm to touch and can often be cold before bed, their houses and nests are always somehow really warm and blanket full

Missa and Phil built a small shelf in the kitchen in the house at old spawn, Missa and Chayanne have filled it with cookbooks

Tallulah knows how to make perfume and because Missa has been away for a while, Tallulah has been making perfumes for him for when he gets back

Adding onto the last one, there have been lots of ‘failed attempts’, ie Tallulah was being nit picky with the scents and trying to figure out exactly what he likes

Missa will like anything and everything given to him, so long as it’s made with love

Phil, on the other hand, will like everything and anything given to him even if it’s given with hate, because he assumes the other has a connection to it (assumes they might just like things like he does)

When Missa first left on the old spawn Phil used to make small dinners for him that wouldn’t go bad for a while just in case Missa came back when he came back

Overtime, they would get more complex and put in the fridge with a note left for him

Every single meal, regardless of what it is, will have toast cut in the shape of Phil’s had with avocado making the green stripes, and another toast cut like a skull with blueberries for the details

Chayanne used to stress bake when his parents were gone, and that improved his skills in cooking really quickly

Tallulah walks extremely quietly, Chayanne picked this up and it scares Phil every time

Despite his parents vibes and all that, Chayanne refuses to wear black sweaters specifically, shirts are on thin ice and black k shorts or pants are a coin flip, this is because he doesn’t like flour showing on them when he doesn’t want to use an apron

Tallulah used to pick at her nails when nervous, but started picking at flowers instead and now her nails hurt if she scratches you

It doesn’t matter who you are, if you become apart of the Death Family, the first thing you’re taught is how to paint your nails

When Phil doesn’t have a bookmark with him and when his wings had healed enough, he would pluck a feather out and use it as a bookmark

Either Phil or Missa doggy ears pages in a book and genuinely can’t tell who, I just think one of them does even if they have a bookmark available

There are a shit ton of keychains on Phil’s bag, you give him one, it could be of anything (besides anything fed related), it’s going on that bag

Phil sometimes wishes he could proper speak bird, I guess, this is only so he could also flirt with and compliment Missa in another language like he does

Chayanne has crocs

When Tallulah cut her hair, she asked for a photo of Missa and mimicked his hairstyle

Whenever Missa is awake/goes to sleep with Phil, the eggs silently rejoice because those two hug each other extremely closely when they sleep

Despite Missa being gone for the longest time, when Phil didn’t come back on Mexican Independence Day, he developed a fear of him leaving him, like physically being far away when he didn’t know where he is and if he was okay, he understands now what Phil feels when he’s gone

Missa, because he’s the tallest between a bird man and children, will pick them up and spin them, even if only for a bit lmao he’s not strong

Adding onto that one, whenever Phil is too excited or stress or just overwhelmed with any emotions, Missa spins him around to help and it works for some reason

Phil started to spin himself in circles when overwhelmed and when Missa was gone

After the birdhouse and when Phil was physically alone, he used to sit by a crafting table with rocks and ores and make little figures of Chayanne, Tallulah and Missa, they weren’t the best and didn’t the proportions weren’t amazing, but he spent weeks on each one and added little faces with a marker

He left the Chayanne and Tallulah statues on their respective beds, with Missa beside the flower pot, hoping they would be replaced with the real people when he woke up

They never were, but Phil put them in the window upstairs once the eggs were back

When the eggs first went missing, Phil took out some cookbooks, and every single meal that looked frequently used/visited was made, and always left out for Missa

If they weren’t eaten, Phil would eat half of it for his dinner the next day, the other half in a fridge

He actually made Missa a fridge to put all these meal in and painted it to suit his vibes

The trash cans used to always filled with sticky notes because everyday, Phil would write ‘Dinner for you’ with a silly little doodle on it for Missa if he returned while sleeping

When Missa was gone, Phil used to write his name like Misƨa (second s is backwards) and make the tops each s look like half a heart, so it made a heart in his name

(BUCKLE UP ITS A HEADCANON POST WHERE I TRY TO SORT OUT THE REALLY CONFUSING DEATH LORE ON THE QSMP)

(I WATCH PHIL BUT NOT RELIGIOUSLY PLEASE ADD OR CORRECT INFO, CROWS)

(I’VE WATCHED SOME OF MISSA’S QSMP STREAMS BUT NOT ALL OF THEM, SO SAME THING APPLIES)

HERE WE GO

Philza:

- The Angel of Death (Not to be confused with Bad, who is a fallen Angel)

- Married to the Goddess of Death (Death in this case is referring to the Concept/Domain)

- NOT responsible for ferrying souls like a Reaper. His title is designated due to both his immortal status and deadly reputation, as well as his connection to the Goddess - similarly to how a queen might designate a knight.

- Immortal: He has higher survivability than Bad and seemingly puts a little more effort into his Days-Spent-Alive-In-A-Row streak (Past lives? Potentially a multi-dimensional being)

- Can commune well with most (if not all) gods and form semi-normal relationships with them as an equal.

- Cannot commune well with (or perhaps avoids talking to) the general dead. Despite not being able to see/hear dead people himself, he can pass the trait to his offspring as seen with Lullah. (It’s possible her power stems from both Phil and Bad. That’s what you call a whombo-combo. Sorry, Lullah.)

- Has no real connection to Bad as their duties do not usually overlap, but they are aware of each other. (AKA they are “coworkers” but Phil has no inherent authority over Bad. Their little office cubicles are on different floors.)

BadBoyHalo:

- The Grim Reaper (not to be confused with a regular Reaper - there is only one Grim Reaper working at a time) and a Fallen Angel, specifically (Thanatos?) one of the four biblical horsemen of the apocalypse/one of four angels trapped under the biblical Euphrates river.

- He is the “Death” horseman and can be referred to as “Death” but is not a death god. Rather his job led him to be associated with Death (the process/journey)

- Immortal: He can’t necessarily survive better but he will revive no matter what and cannot die the same way twice. (Past lives? Potentially a multi-dimensional being.) Despite not being as hardy as Phil, he may be older (although it’s difficult to quantify)

- Cannot commune well with gods and is seemingly not viewed as equal (although he has connections with the goddess Hecate - also a death goddess but not the death goddess. Hecate is more-so a goddess of crossroads - the transition between life and death. She may be his employer.)

- Can commune EXTREMELY well with the general dead (can potentially recognize and cultivate this ability in others - as seen with Dapper and Lullah)

Missa:

- I don’t have much to go off here I’m gonna be honest. Him being a reaper isn’t even canon.

- That being said

- Missa is a Reaper, a normal one, of the Undead variety.

- NOT Immortal (at least not like Bad and Phil): As an Undead creature he cannot die of old age/sickness but can otherwise be slain so he has to be a bit more careful. He is not as unbothered by death/killing as Philza and BBH. He is also not nearly as old - the fact that they are so chill about each other is sometimes to his detriment.

- He cannot commune with any gods unless granted the ability by Phil or another power. He can communicate with the dead minimally but it’s kind of like if you tried to talk to a parrot (again, unless it’s being ‘translated’ by Bad or another power).

- Missa has necromantic magic, not enough inherent power to revive himself but enough to heal his own wounds and revive smaller things. (I know Bad ‘revived’ Missa’s mini-me for him but for the sake of Lore I’m gonna say Missa did that with his magic and Bad just kinda helped him focus it.)

- Missa and Bad, while both being Reapers, do not quite function with the same purpose and therefore Bad has no inherent authority over Missa. They are like two cats - even if one is bigger than the other they are still both cats. Also death doesn’t care about hierarchy.

- Missa actually does his job which is why he is frequently gone. Bad and Phil, on the other hand, are straight-up chilling. (Phil’s job doesn’t require him to go out collecting souls and Bad kinda doesn’t care. What are they gonna do, fire him?)

GRIM REAPER VS. REAPER DIFFERENCES

- Reapers are collectors and guides of souls in the afterlife - helping them make the journey from life to death. They cannot commune with souls they are not explicitly collecting, and do not choose who they do and don’t collect.

- Undead Reapers were mortals who were chosen in life and trained upon death to be Reapers. They are returned to life specifically for this purpose, and once dead cannot revive themselves - they can only come back if they are once again chosen and pulled back by an outside force.

- The Grim Reaper is also a collector and guide, however they can also foresee a living soul’s journey (as seen with Bad’s conversation with Pac) as well as alter it (Bad generally does this by Killing People). The Grim Reaper can commune with all souls regardless of circumstances and can also play favorites as long as balance is kept. Similarly, while the Grim Reaper cannot return souls that have already passed the crossroads, they can reach out to any soul they please, to talk to them or anchor them to a given realm.

- All Reapers frown upon upsetting the balance of death and life - however ‘balance’ can be left up to their discretion, for the most part. So sometimes emotions can cloud judgement.

- All Reapers are recruited as it is a job title and not a species. However, among undead reapers skulls are common adornments (as seen with Missa.) The Grim Reaper has a straight-up hood-and-scythe dress code. The employer of all Reapers is generally unknown although Hecates is a plausible suspect. The Grim Reaper still must train under the former Grim Reaper, just as a Reaper must train under another Reaper. Bad and Missa can train new Reapers, but Missa cannot choose who becomes a reaper, and Bad cannot choose who will be the next Grim. Bad can also help others if they are born with an affinity for the dead as he has plenty of souls on hand to practice with. Missa can do this as well, but he cannot summon souls to practice with, he can only use what he has available.

I think it’s less that Lucanis dislikes planning or does not plan (I think he quite likes having A Plan, actually, if only to riff off of and even if that plan js extremely simple a la stabbing a cloud) so much as he enjoys looking for and/or leaving himself room for improvisation. He is a professional who has been doing practically the same job for years. If you believe he’s been taking contracts since he was at least 18, and that he’s 35ish by the time of Veilguard, that’s nearly two decades of working as an assassin, with an unknown chunk of that time dedicated to specializing in mage-killing. Long enough to know even the most well-thought out plan will go awry in his line of work simply for who his targets often are. Long enough to have gained the level of experience necessary to be able to improvise as successfully as he does. It’s the difference between a professional athlete/musician/artist and a hall of famer. It’s the thing that sets him apart from any other Crow and makes his particular set of skills needed by the Veilguard team.

We know that he’s good at his job, enough to have a reputation outside of the Crows for his work, and part of that is, yes, presenting as bit of a wild card to would-be enemies so that he doesn’t become predictable. Which… does actually require a level of forethought to keep from unintentionally falling into the same patterns. We see in WMJ how much pre-planning went in to getting inside the party—unless you believe he just has enough latent knowledge of Vyrantium’s layout to be able to use the aqueducts or that all elves just inherently trust him with their secret passages or that he dragged Illario along with him and gave him access to the dossier he wrote on the target for no reason. Also, too, if you believe said dossier does not contain anything he would have had to spend time gathering and compiling and only info he got… passively? I guess??

Most of his behavior in Veilguard reads to me as someone who is internalizing enough failure to doubt all of his abilities and also is reacting to the reality they know too little about what they’re up against—improvisation is really all he’s able to do. Setting aside the fact that he’s not the boss of this job and consistently offers his thoughts during team meetings, the whole team is flying by the seat of their pants and relying on their skills to carry them through. This is reinforced over and over again as the plot progresses. More to the point, it’s consistently highlighting how high the stakes actually are and how skilled the team is that they’re able to keep adapting.

Idk it’s just more interesting to me that Lucanis seems to be someone who thinks in terms of variables (to say nothing of what the unpredictability of his childhood likely endowed him with irt how he approaches the world) and leans into his ability to pivot and adapt (which is not a skill many people have or understand irl tbh and it is a skill), not because of an allergy to planning or inability to stick to a plan, but because he does plan enough and is so confident in what he does that he intentionally leaves himself room to go off script when it becomes necessary— and for him it is a when, not an if. Something something his rebellions against Caterina. It makes his self-doubt in VG hit harder, tbh. The one thing he’s been raised to be good at and he’s failing at it. It’s gifted child burn out in extreme mode while he’s working under conditions he legitimately cannot plan for in the way he would any other contract. Which the team keeps having to remind him of.

It is additionally more interesting to me that Lucanis is someone who has earned his ability to improvise over some… natural ability at winging it and keep coming out alive bc idk assassin prodigy.

Foolish, who spent all his time in the dsmp out in the desert building on his own, never really appreciated. who’s only community builds were never really used - a massive fuck off mansion for Tubbo and Ranboo in Snowchester they never moved into, Kinoko Kingdom which got more appreciation by Quackity, who hated it, than any of the meant to be residents, and the Among Us bunker that never saw the light of day. who’s only friends ended up executing him at a banquet, and the other blackmailing him into joining his city. but it didn’t truly matter - he had the desert to return to, and another massive project to build, even if it was just him around to appreciate it.

the desert was as beautiful as it was dangerous. it was not friendly, and it was not kind, but it was where he built his life. it was where he retreated to when everything else was shit.

and then, however many years later, he finds companionship in the qsmp. people love his builds, use his builds - but appreciate him for more than that. he sticks close instead of moving thousands of blocks away. he falls in love with Vegetta, then he takes care of his daughter. his beloved Leo. he learns another language so she doesn’t have to struggle with his, and they teach each other as they talk. he gets her everything she asks for even if he rolls his eyes and teases her for being spoiled, because he loves her, because he’d move heaven and earth for her. he tells her that she’s good, and that she’s shown him that there’s more to life than just being alone and building all the time.

and then Leo’s gone. and when the panic has settled and the realization that he can’t do anything hits, he goes and works on the titan. he builds and tries not to cry. for a short time, he goes and takes people exploring since they’re also online, and he tasks himself with distracting them to cheer them up (with the bonus of taking out his aggravation on monsters), and he can’t be upset if he’s with company. but lately they haven’t been around, and he’s mostly alone again - so he goes back to building. returning to hours and hours on his own, making more headway in a few days than he has in a month on his build.

he retreats to the desert. where he’s alone, where there’s nothing but him and the sand and his builds, where there’s nothing else in the world, because the rest of the world is unbearable.

So running in general wouldn’t be super plausible because of situation and because you can’t really run in heels…
