I love your music! I'm glad you blazed some of your posts because I may not have discovered you otherwise. It's interesting because I wasn't sure I'd like it at first as my musical preferences lie closer to the realm of metal, posthardcore and pop punk, but I adore all the synths in your music, the visuals in your music videos, and the cleverness in your lyrics. Actually, some of it reminds me of Gerard Way's solo album Hesitant Alien and I think that's why I enjoy your music so much.
An element of your art (which your music videos absolutely are) especially resonates with me as I am also nonbinary and it's very validating and comforting to see someone else being their authentic self and to be reminded that there's really no rulebook to gender-nonconformity. Thank you for sharing your music and I wish you the best as your journey of being an artist progresses!
Thank you so much! 💖💖💖 It is so true, a lot of people want to put us in boxes but if you follow your own path it is so much more rewarding.
I used to go to punk shows a lot in Toronto (RIP Soybomb) so while I am not super knowledgeable on the genres you mentioned they hold a place in my heart for sure - it's cool that you connect with my music because I feel like there's a lot of secret influence from post hardcore, pop punk, etc. Those shows had a big effect on me and some of the bands I listened to around then (Infernal Arms, Fucked Up, Horse the Band, Billy Talent, Refused) definitely influenced me in big ways!
Also serendipitous that I saw that Gerard Way album the other day while looking for album cover inspo and saved it because I thought it looked cool but haven't listened yet. I will have to do so!
If you have any metal recommendations btw I am all ears, I really barely know the genre.
All the best and hope you'll stick around for the new album! 💖

a bit peeved when the term "trad goth" is used to refer to that perfectly sharp black makeup and idk killstar clothes or something. then you look at actual early goths and it's so much more chaotic and versatile and fun.

”cripplepunk is targeted towards physically disabled and purely mentally disabled folk should stay out of it” and “the lines between mentally and physically disabled are very blurry” are two things that can and should co exist, actually.

i know there are other posts that are articulating this same thing but man i really feel like we don’t give ray enough credit for playing a huge part in mcr being so technically impressive. like yes gerard has the strong vision, charisma, and intuition that defines a large part of the ethos of mcr, but it all comes down to his creative relationship with ray toro. ray is able to go along with gerard’s direction so well and interpret it through his obsessive relationship with music. in lotms they literally refer to ray as “a man obsessed” where he’s constantly working on the production of the music. we see multiple clips of him sitting at his laptop meticulously mulling over tracks. the story about him obsessively listening to the black parade tracks in his car until it was perfect. him taking typing classes to improve his dexterity and his constant pursuit to mastering his instrument despite dedicating his life playing it for over twenty years. ray toro’s brilliant musicianship plays a HUGE part in what sets mcr apart from all the other emo bands.

One thing i particularly enjoy about souvenir pop is 80s sound which i also talked about concerning Stephanie. I hear it in lips and mesto duhov aswell, these have an almost post-punk like sound (and Stephanie sounds more new wave to me). And i THOROUGHLY enjoy this. I think it was Nace who mentioned that he really enjoyed the synth-y 80s sounds and that they were playing around with that and i am SO very thankful for that i am LIVING.

seen people calling this Fontaines’ pop album and that they lost what made Dogrel special, I think youse missed the essence of Fontaines D.C.! It was never specifically about the punk or the aggression. It was about Fontaines’ poet-in-the-corner observations. It was about how if five people with ideas in their mind came together and spent a long time carefully crafting a record, people who developed their taste in music together, people for whom ideas and motifs gave rise to music, then the music will take on an identity of its own. It was never specifically about the Lotts on the corner. The ideas will evolve. This is the best evolution of a band you could’ve asked for! If a few strummed acoustic guitars equal sold out pop for you I don’t know what to tell you.

the state of resellers trying to get money out of the scene community is absolutely fucked I love this shirt the dd stacked shirt is iconic of the era but it is absolutely *not* worth £100 (nearly $130 US) genuinely feel for anyone just getting into scene now because the inaccessibility of getting hold of any old scene clothes to anyone without a fuckton of money is wild
