Back when I had psoriasis I would get cracked and bleeding skin on my finger tips. I found the best thing for them was Preparation H ointment (not cream). Just dab a little on, cover with a Band-Aid and it would completely heal sometimes in less than 24 hours.
I guess I wasn't destined to be the next Elephant Man.

Stopped by Ulta for the first time to find a new sunscreen without shea. I downloaded the Skinsort app which was super helpful and the people there were also eager to help. They said I could try it out and return it for a full refund if it didn’t work out for me. They said it was a 30 day window but I wasn’t super eager to do multiple trips so I lathered it on in the parking lot and took Mandana for a decompression walk. So far so good. It’s lightly tinted but in person it’s still a little dark for my current skin tone (the white cast ones would probably work better at this point 😂) I got a couple different options so I’ll do swatches for you soon :)

New fav. I’d been making my own ACV rice water/clarifying oils for years with good results but still had to scrape painful psoriasis off 3-4x a week. Now I barely have build up and my hair is crazy soft. I’ve needed shampoo only a few times since starting this rinse 3 weeks ago.

Moringa’s Role in Alleviating Skin Irritation
Tumblr media
Skin irritation is an issue most of us encounter at some point, whether due to seasonal changes, environmental stressors, or underlying conditions like eczema or allergies. The discomfort caused by redness, itching, dryness, and inflammation can be both physically and emotionally draining. While modern treatments offer temporary relief, natural remedies like moringa have been trusted for centuries for their holistic healing properties.
At Pura Vida, we are dedicated to harnessing the benefits of moringa in ways that empower your health and well-being. From soothing dry, irritated skin to reducing redness and inflammation, moringa offers a natural solution that aligns with your skincare goals.
This blog explores how moringa’s nutrients and compounds alleviate skin irritation. We’ll highlight Pura Vida’s products, including Moringa Capsules, Moringa Powder, Moringa Oil, Moringa Drops, and Moringa Body Butter, to help you incorporate this miracle ingredient into your daily routine.
Understanding Skin Irritation
Skin irritation occurs when the skin’s natural barrier is disrupted, leaving it vulnerable to environmental and internal triggers. Causes include:
Environmental factors: Pollution, UV exposure, and weather changes strip the skin of moisture, leading to dryness and sensitivity.
Allergens: Reactions to skincare products, detergents, or fabrics can cause redness and itchiness.
Underlying conditions: Eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis trigger chronic irritation and inflammation.
Symptoms include redness, dryness, itchiness, swelling, or a burning sensation. Left untreated, irritation can worsen, leading to skin damage and heightened sensitivity.
Managing skin irritation requires addressing both the symptoms and the underlying causes. Moringa, with its rich blend of nutrients and healing properties, provides relief while supporting the skin’s natural repair processes.
The Power of Moringa: A Quick Overview
Known as the "Miracle Tree," moringa is revered in traditional medicine for its exceptional healing capabilities. It is packed with nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, that nourish and protect the skin.
Moringa’s anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties make it particularly effective for soothing irritated or inflamed skin. These properties help reduce redness and swelling, calm itchiness, and support the skin’s recovery process.
At Pura Vida, we ensure our products, such as Moringa Capsules, Moringa Powder, Moringa Oil, Moringa Drops, and Moringa Body Butter, deliver the full spectrum of moringa’s benefits. Whether ingested or applied topically, moringa works to restore balance and vitality to the skin, making it an essential addition to any skincare routine.
Nutritional Profile of Moringa for Skin Health
Moringa is a treasure trove of nutrients that support skin health:
Vitamins A, C, and E: Vitamin A accelerates healing and promotes skin renewal. Vitamin C boosts collagen production and reduces oxidative stress, while Vitamin E protects the skin from free radicals.
Minerals like Zinc: Essential for wound healing and calming irritated or inflamed skin.
Amino Acids: Moringa contains all nine essential amino acids, which aid in tissue repair and improve skin resilience.
Incorporating moringa into your diet provides these nutrients systemically, ensuring your skin receives the nourishment it needs to heal from within.
Pura Vida’s Moringa Capsules and Moringa Powder offer convenient ways to add moringa to your routine. Blend the powder into smoothies or take capsules daily to enjoy the skin-nourishing benefits of this superfood.
Anti-Inflammatory Properties of Moringa
Inflammation is at the root of most skin irritation, and moringa is uniquely equipped to combat it. It contains isothiocyanates, flavonoids, and quercetin—compounds known for their anti-inflammatory effects. These elements work by blocking the production of inflammatory cytokines, helping to reduce redness, swelling, and discomfort.
Moringa’s anti-inflammatory properties extend beyond calming visible irritation. They also prevent chronic inflammation, which can lead to skin conditions like eczema and dermatitis. By soothing the skin, moringa allows it to focus on repairing and regenerating.
For targeted relief, Pura Vida Moringa Body Butter offers a luxurious way to calm inflamed skin. The creamy formula delivers a potent dose of moringa’s anti-inflammatory compounds while deeply hydrating and protecting the skin.
Moringa Oil: A Skin-Healing Elixir
Moringa oil is a must-have for anyone dealing with skin irritation. Extracted from moringa seeds, this lightweight, non-comedogenic oil penetrates deeply to hydrate, heal, and protect the skin.
Oleic Acid: Provides intense hydration, perfect for dry or irritated skin.
Antibacterial and Antifungal Properties: Helps prevent infections in compromised skin.
Rich in Vitamin E: Repairs damage caused by environmental aggressors while soothing inflammation.
Pura Vida’s Moringa Oil can be applied directly to the skin for immediate relief or added to your favorite moisturizers for an extra boost. Use it as part of your nighttime skincare routine to wake up with calm, hydrated, and healthier skin.
Antioxidants in Moringa and Their Protective Role
Environmental stressors like pollution and UV rays generate free radicals that damage the skin’s barrier and cause irritation. Moringa’s high antioxidant content, including chlorogenic acid and Vitamin C, neutralizes these free radicals, preventing further damage and irritation.
Antioxidants also promote a more even skin tone by reducing hyperpigmentation caused by inflammation. With regular use, moringa protects your skin from daily environmental stressors while promoting healing.
Pura Vida Moringa Drops offer an easy way to incorporate antioxidants into your diet. Add a few drops to water, tea, or juice to support your skin’s health from the inside out.
Moringa for Allergies and Sensitive Skin
One of moringa's standout qualities is its suitability for sensitive and allergy-prone skin. Unlike harsh chemical treatments that can exacerbate irritation, moringa is a gentle, natural alternative. Its calming properties come from bioactive compounds like quercetin and kaempferol, which reduce histamine levels and alleviate symptoms of allergic reactions.
Sensitive skin often reacts to environmental factors, harsh products, or allergens, leading to redness, itching, or flakiness. Moringa’s anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties work together to soothe and strengthen the skin’s natural barrier, making it less reactive over time.
Pura Vida Moringa Body Butter is specifically designed for sensitive skin, offering hydration without clogging pores or causing breakouts. Its nutrient-rich formula deeply nourishes while calming redness and irritation. For added care, apply Pura Vida Moringa Oil to specific areas needing extra attention. Its lightweight texture ensures your skin feels comfortable and refreshed.
With regular use of moringa, both internally through Pura Vida Capsules or Drops and externally via skincare products, you can create a protective shield for your skin, reducing its sensitivity to allergens and irritants.
DIY Moringa Remedies for Skin Irritation
For those who enjoy natural skincare, moringa is a versatile ingredient that can be used in various DIY remedies to combat skin irritation. Here are a few simple recipes to try:
1. Soothing Moringa Mask
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon Pura Vida Moringa Powder
1 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon aloe vera gel
Instructions: Mix the ingredients into a smooth paste and apply it to your face or irritated areas. Leave it on for 15 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water. This mask calms redness, hydrates, and refreshes the skin.
2. Hydrating Moringa Oil Blend
Ingredients:
5 drops Pura Vida Moringa Oil
1 teaspoon coconut oil
Instructions: Combine the oils and massage gently onto irritated areas before bedtime. The blend provides deep hydration and relief while promoting skin repair overnight.
3. Relaxing Moringa Bath Soak
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons Pura Vida Moringa Powder
1 cup Epsom salt
Instructions: Dissolve the ingredients in a warm bath and soak for 20 minutes. This bath soothes itchiness, reduces inflammation, and leaves your skin feeling soft and nourished.
These DIY remedies are perfect for enhancing your skincare routine with moringa’s natural benefits.
Moringa in Commercial Skincare
Moringa’s rise in commercial skincare isn’t just a passing trend—it’s a testament to its incredible efficacy. From luxurious moisturizers to potent serums, moringa has become a key ingredient in addressing skin irritation and promoting overall skin health.
The beauty of moringa lies in its versatility. Its high antioxidant content protects against environmental stressors, while its anti-inflammatory properties reduce redness and swelling. Moringa oil, in particular, is lightweight and deeply hydrating, making it suitable for all skin types.
At Pura Vida, we’ve harnessed moringa’s potential in our products. Moringa Body Butter provides deep, long-lasting hydration, ideal for daily use or after exposure to harsh conditions. For targeted relief, Moringa Oil delivers nutrients directly to irritated areas, soothing and repairing the skin.
Unlike synthetic products that can cause irritation or dryness, moringa-based skincare is gentle yet effective. It works with your skin’s natural processes, enhancing its ability to heal and protect itself.
Choosing Pura Vida’s moringa skincare products ensures that you’re investing in natural, high-quality solutions that deliver visible results without compromising on safety.
Scientific Backing: Research on Moringa for Skin Health
Scientific studies consistently highlight moringa’s remarkable benefits for skin health, particularly its ability to reduce inflammation and promote healing. Research shows that moringa’s rich profile of antioxidants, vitamins, and fatty acids makes it a powerful remedy for irritated and damaged skin.
One study found that moringa oil’s high oleic acid content helps improve skin barrier function, locking in moisture and preventing dryness. Another study emphasized moringa’s antibacterial and antifungal properties, making it effective against infections that often accompany skin irritation.
For those with chronic conditions like eczema or psoriasis, research indicates that moringa’s anti-inflammatory compounds, such as quercetin and isothiocyanates, can significantly reduce symptoms like redness and itching.
Pura Vida’s products are designed with these findings in mind. Our Moringa Capsules provide systemic support, addressing inflammation from within, while our Moringa Body Butter and Moringa Oil offer topical relief backed by science.
By incorporating moringa into your skincare routine, you’re not just relying on traditional wisdom—you’re benefiting from a scientifically proven solution that promotes healthier, irritation-free skin.
Incorporating Moringa into Your Routine
To fully reap the benefits of moringa for skin irritation, it’s essential to adopt a holistic approach that combines internal and external use:
Internal Use: Start your day with Pura Vida Moringa Capsules or a few drops of Moringa Drops in your morning tea. These products provide your body with the nutrients it needs to support skin repair and resilience from within.
External Use: Apply Pura Vida Moringa Oil directly to irritated areas for targeted relief or use Moringa Body Butter as part of your daily skincare routine for all-over hydration and protection.
For severe irritation, consider adding moringa powder to your diet. Mix it into smoothies, soups, or energy balls for an easy and delicious way to boost your skin health.
By integrating moringa into both your diet and skincare routine, you create a comprehensive solution for managing and preventing skin irritation.
Conclusion
Moringa is undoubtedly one of nature’s most powerful gifts, offering an effective, holistic approach to managing skin irritation and promoting overall skin health. Whether you suffer from dry patches, redness, inflammation, or chronic conditions like eczema, moringa provides a gentle yet potent solution.
Packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and anti-inflammatory compounds, moringa works at the cellular level to reduce irritation, protect the skin from environmental damage, and enhance the skin’s natural healing process. *Looking for skincare recs 😘
My Enbrel injections have helped with my inflammatory arthritis and has actually improved some of the side effects from methotrexate but with one caveat. I’m developing some mild psoriasis symptoms (diagnosed by my doctor) so I need to put a little extra effort into my skincare.
Besides using aquaphor to combat the psoriasis, I was finally able to figure out I’m reacting to shea butter. Which totally makes sense bc I also have oral allergy syndrome with several latex related foods. The problem is that some of my favorite products have shea butter so if anyone has any recommendations let me know.
HERE’S WHAT I NEED TO REPLACE (no shea butter / preferably vegan but can include beeswax / formulated with sensitive dry or combination skin / I’m light skinned and I don’t wear makeup so it doesn’t have to be tinted or worry about layering but lightweight and matte sunscreen is preferred)
Matte Facial Sunscreen (preferably mineral although I might have to branch branch out into chemical spf if I find something worth trying) REPLACEMENT FOR BARE REPUBLIC MATTE FACE SPF 30
SPF Lip Balm REPLACEMENT FOR JACK BLACK SPF LIP BALM
Natural Deodorant REPLACEMENT FOR NATIVE COCONUT DEODORANT
PRODUCTS THAT CURRENTLY WORK:
Vanicream shampoo, conditioner, face wash, vitamin c serum (which I used as a moisturizer but I’m switching it out for the BYOMA products that are slightly gentler)
BYOMA face mist toner, clarifying serum or hydrating serum, moisturizing gel cream, hydrating body wash
Naturium Cleansing Oil for removing sunscreen
Lazarus Natural CBD products for pain including recovery cream and balm stick
Aquaphor Advanced Therapy Ointment for psoriasis management unfortunately the lip spf has shea :(
Corn starch based powder deodorant. I was using Pretty Frank until the discontinued it and switched to Happy Curves
