Thursday, February 13: The Atlas Moth, "Galactic Brain"
The Atlas Moth expanded their approach a bit on Coma Noir and “Galactic Brain”, though their sound remained fundamentally rooted in doom and sludge.  The tune lurched and stomped steadily, with vocals that alternated between downcast, annoyed and irascible, and generally maintained a consistent momentum throughout.  The scratchy vocal bits could be a bit intrusive, but mostly functioned as a way to mix it up every so often, and in a way that was helpful since the track began to drag around the 4-minute mark, and at nearly 6 minutes it didn’t so much end as just stop in its tracks.  There was a generally strong vibe to “Galactic Brain”, and the non-screechy vocal parts did a lot to steer the song, but it also felt like the Atlas Moth didn’t entirely have a firm grasp on what they were aiming for.

Album Review: Molder - Catastrophic Reconfiguration (Prosthetic Records)

Death metal band, Molder are set to reanimate the dead with their forthcoming third album, ‘Catastrophic Reconfiguration’, due for release via Prosthetic Records on November 8th, 2024. Photo Credit: Alex Ford Taking heavy inspiration from the old-school side of death metal, while sprinkling in some thrash and speed. Molder keeps this really simple, and in doing so, deliver a really effective…
