Friday, January 24: Metallica, "Fight Fire with Fire"
R.I.P. Cliff Burton (1962-1986)
Kill ‘Em All may have been Metallica’s first album, but Ride the Lightning was the record where they defined their place as a thrash band: their debut was certainly extreme for its time, but in retrospect its songs, particularly in the riffing and arrangements, were largely an Americanized take on the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.  But “Fight Fire with Fire” was unmistakably thrash, blasting with unremitting intensity (acoustic intro notwithstanding) and gurgling from James Hetfield that was freaked out and irritated at once.  Likewise, Lars’ drumming clumsily aimed for blastbeat intensity and actually regressed somewhat from his more focused attempts at groove on Kill ‘Em All, but successfully matched the guitars in their intensity.  This was like nothing we’d really heard before, and it mowed down everything in its path with a focus that was actually ultimately not very common for thrash metal, but it showed us all who was boss, and was the perfect opener for a perfect album.

Because I want to add to your serotonin overload, here is where this is going
by the way after the last two updates, I have been thinking about how well you write Singed as a villain. He’s the worst, but in a deeply grounded and visceral way.
Random detail question- how long is Viktor’s hair? Is it close to commune Viktor in the show?
Excuse me a moment
*goes out into the woods to scream*
This is incredible holy fuck!!! The fabric drapes!! The background lighting!! The poses!!! You have officially put the serotonin at 200% capacity you are amazing and I am in fucking awe over this <3 <3 <3
I was picturing Viktor's hair at being commune-length yeah - just about long enough to tie back
But thank you so much for the art and for the Singed villain writing compliment lmao - even if some of his dialogue is hard, I have had a fuckin blast working out all his hidden scheming and all the chess pieces he puts into play while everyone else proceeds with the main plot
Thank you for sharing all your insanely beautiful art and now I am going to spend the rest of the morning grinning and gushing over this ^.^

Rare picture Cliff and James at backstage with John Marshall who replaced James on guitar when he had broken his arm in a skateboard accident, circa 1986.

DUDE, don francks voiced mok in rock and rule, and he also played a character in heavy metal 1981
susan roman played angel, and martin lavut played mylar, and they're both also in heavy metal
GET THIS, don francks is related to cree summer, and THEY BOTH play in inspector gadget (the cartoon)
???? IDK WHERE IM GOING WITH THIS BUT IT'S JUST INSANE THAT ONE OF MY FAVORITE VOICE ACTORS (cree summers) IS RELATED TO A GUY WHO PLAYED IN ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES AS ONE OF MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS
AND THERE'S MULTIPLE VOICE ACTORS WHO PLAY IN ROCK AND RULE WHO ALSO PLAY IN HEAVY METAL??
insanely small world i guess 😭

Thursday, March 13: Weedpecker, "Fat Karma"
One might expect a band called Weedpecker to deliver very stoned doom metal, but while the Polish act certainly cranked out a racket and “Fat Karma” came with hefty globules of bass, there was almost an ambient vibe due to Piotr Dobry’s hollering being mixed way in the back.  It had a nice wandering feel to it, all the fuzz and lurching ambling along while Dobry turned up every so often to wail about… something.  Doom metal in general is an ageless sound, and even if Weedpecker traded on very familiar touchstones “Fat Karma” had a charm all its own.

two ends of heavy metal spectrum:
vampire -> somber, atmospheric, drawn out sounds, slower, quiet dissonance, makes you wanna brood
werewolf -> raging, quick and hurried notes, loud, makes you wanna scream and destroy

Genuinely I watched one episode of jiban (the Jiraiya crossover) and his "I can legally kill you" catchphrase thing sounded so evil I decided I didn't want to watch any more of it lmao. Which is a shame because the visuals and music are all so good.
he's only legally allowed to kill the biolon monsters so i can ALMOST forgive him. ALMOST.
(just watched him take out jakq tamasaburou. Cathartic.)
