Inktober day 2. The theme was "divided", which made me think of the primordial frost giant Ymir in Norse mythology. Ymir's name originally meant something like "doubled", which makes me think on the one hand of the two-in-one nature of the hermaphrodite (of interest here since Ymir gives birth with no partner to new giants from his feet and under his arms) and on the other hand of the fact that this procreation was essentially a doubling of oneself (very like primordial cells, i suppose). The former of these points led me to portray Ymir with both male and female characteristics, and as very... Fecund, i guess. Curvy, breasted, and lots of hair everywhere (and of course statuesque godlike strength, to stay within the norms of deity illustration). The second point is what made me think of this in terms of the theme "division", though i'm not sure it's the closest fit-just part of the chain of associations that led me to this picture. When you are the first being in the universe to reproduce, it's got to be a bit startling, so i'm titling this not just "Primordial Procreation" but "Ymir hits puberty". In the background we have a primordial cow, leaking milk and licking something out of the ice, and a primordial burning man, both looking on in confusion at this primordial ruckus. You can check out Anthony Faulkes' translation of Edda, pp 10ff, for some details, though if i get around to posting about this on my main blog spoilers may ensue. #inktober #inktober2017 #norse #norsemythology #mythology #creationmyth #ymir #giants #jötnar #edda #snorraedda #proseedda #hermaphrodite #ginnungagap #frostgiants #primordial #inillotempore

Old Norse Mythology is full of magic. 'Seiðr' is understood as a potentially shamanic source of sorcery, which may have included precognition. Practitioners were predominantly female. Men practicing seiðr found themselves subject to persecution because it displayed 'ergi', or effeminacy, which was greatly disapproved of in the age of the Viking. Despite this, Oðinn (or Odin), ruler of Asgard and god of wisdom, war, poetry, magic, and gods themselves, was a practitioner, much to the amusement of troublesome trickster, Loki (who was not his son, according to the Poetic & Prose Eddas rather than Marvel lore). Loki also accused Frejya, the goddess of war, death, sex and magic of being a witch. As the goddess of seiðr, Loki's assumptions were founded, but he caused outrage in accusing her of incest. Eventually, Thor arrived and sent the trickster to Hel, rather than the coveted Valhalla, putting a temporary end to Loki's mischief. 📸: "Ah, What a Lovely Maid it is!', which depicts Thor unhappily dressed as Freyja whilst Loki giggles in the background, by Elmer Boyd Smith, 1902, via Wiki Commons. . #generallygothic #gothic #witch #seasonofthewitch #magic #seidr #seiðr #norsemythology #oldnorse #vikings #vikingage #odin #oðinn #thor #loki #freyja #marvel #valhalla #norsewitch #proseedda #poeticedda #war #death #sorcery #snorristurluson #lore #mythology #history #gods #goddess https://www.instagram.com/p/BxctpNDgOrS/?igshid=18jsw4xso29w6

Sigyn Goddess of Fidelity
Mythology Sigyn
Sigyn Goddess of Fidelity
The Wife of Loki is #Sigyn (nordic from sigr which means "victory"). Other names of her are Sygun or Sygni. She is the goddess of loyalty, devotion and cohesion.
In Norse mythology Sigyn is the very simple girl from the people. She has golden blond hair and is rather smaller than the other Asen.
Tumblr media
Taken from lore, It seems that Sigyn’s world was defined by love: love of her husband, love of her children, love of her family as a whole. She consciously chose to honour the commitments of her heart and to endure in the face of unprecedented loss, grief, and misery. Loki’s ordeal in the cave, perhaps the defining moment of his Mytho's, was also her ordeal in the cave. The difference is that she consciously chose to endure it.
In Norsemythology, Sigyn (Old Norse "victorious girl-friend") is a goddess and is the wife of Loki. Sigyn is attested in the #PoeticEdda, compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources, and the #ProseEdda, written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson. In the Poetic Edda, little information is provided about Sigyn other than her role in assisting Loki during his captivity. In the Prose Edda, her role in helping her husband through his time spent in bondage is stated again, she appears in various kennings, and her status as a goddess is mentioned twice. Sigyn may appear on the Gosforth Cross and has been the subject of an amount of theory and cultural references.
In stanza 35 of the Poetic Edda poem Völuspá, a völva tells Odin that, amongst many other things, she sees Sigyn sitting very unhappily with her bound husband, #Loki, under a "grove of hot springs". Sigyn is mentioned a second (and final) time in the ending prose section of the poem Lokasenna. In the prose, Loki has been bound by the gods with the guts of his son Nari, his son Váli is described as having been turned into a wolf, and the goddess Skaði fastens a venomous snake over Loki's face, from which venom drips. Sigyn, again described as Loki's wife, holds a basin under the dripping venom. The basin grows full, and she pulls it away, during which time venom drops on Loki, causing him to writhe so violently that earthquakes occur that shake the entire earth.
Sigyn is especially honored in Nordic mythology for three aspects.
1. As the pure, faithful and especially dear full bride Lokis
2. As a sacrificial and nourishing mother
3. As Mourning Mother and Forgiving Wife
Her name tells of victory and daring, boldness and power, and yet she is still and loving, simple in her way.
I want to raise a horn to Sigyn; I greet you with pride, this goddess who is much more than just Loki's loyal bride.
Old Norse original:
Haft sá hon liggja und Hveralundi,
lægjarns líki Loka áþekkjan;
þar sitr Sigyn þeygi of sínum
ver vel glýjuð. Vituð ér enn - eða hvat?
Sigyn is a Nordic-Germanic goddess. It is the embodiment of the faithful, sacrificing woman. Sigyn is Loki's wife.
Sigyn is a popular Asia. Your clothes are also simple and light in shape. It's a calm character that makes her, although it's mostly style and almost invisible to many. Can this woman be wild and backward?
Yes she can, she shows it in her cheeky and loving way!
For whom you hardened and worshiped, you usually brought bread, milk, gold coins, or flower seeds as offerings. This reflects the colors with which it is associated.
These colors are:
blue
yellow
brown
green
white
gray
Pink
Tumblr media
"Faithful" is the only word they allow me.
As if my tears when my son was killed,
Torn by his brother Wolf,
As if his living intestines binding your body,
Nothing would be.
I am nothing for her as faithful
How my hands hold the wooden cup
Protecting your eyes from dripping poison
Protecting your eyes from the world.
The poison drips, increasing the load
In my shell. She fills with revenge.
You feel the drops when I go,
To empty the bowl,
Falling in your eyes.
Your body shudders, shakes the ground
Where you are held
Packed from the last hug
Our son.
His brother howls; hear that
Lament for his murdered brother.
He does not howl for you.
But I am faithful, and hold
the time in a relaxing grip.
Do the gods see that you will break the shackles?
Do you know the pain that will make you fight?
Do you care that I am the one who keeps Ragnarok off?
Oh Loki, my husband,
my arms are tired
Tumblr media
Sigyn, the bringer of victory:
I was once prophesied a great destiny
Three old women, one of whom appears very young
They said I would suffer, I would bleed
Because without him I could not work
I would laugh and cry right away
To share the pain with him, without mercy well noticed
His words would penetrate deep into my soul
And the wolf's crying will be my only consolation
I would count every drop that his suffering diminishes
And forget the pain on my feet
Only remember who the bowl was full
Every step would be like running on knives
His words hurt me, but did not make me waver
He will be tied to a rock
Eternally evil for his sins
Still, I would love him, never cheat on him
Always at his side, never betray him
I would do it all voluntarily
And they were right
Now I stand here by his side
And no matter how many times he screamed, let me go
Do not let that stop me
I sturra as ten asses and a buck together
I am Sigyn Loki's faithful wife
The only woman who will never lie
I was once prophesied a great destiny
Of three old women, one of whom appeared very young
I will never forget her words to this day! "AS YOU NEED HIM, HE WILL NEED YOU. SHOULD YOU FALL, HE WILL BE THE END OF ALL SIRING. "
Tumblr media
Sigyn is an Asin and Loki's second wife after the giant Angrboda .. Sigyn got 2 kids from Loki and their names are Nari and Nafri .. It is first mentioned in Gylfaginning 33, where it says: "Loki is handsome and handsome in character, but evil of mind and very volatile, outperforming others in cunning and all kinds of deceit." He caused some embarrassment in the Ases, but often helped them out with his wisdom Her name is Sigyn, and her Sons Nari and Nafri."
There are also theories that Sigyn could also be Loki's third wife. This theory says that Loki was Glöð's first wife, he separated from her after an affair with Angrboda and married Angrboda. Some even assume that Angrboda and Glöð could even be sisters. But as I said, there are theories for which there is no real evidence!
Sigyn's (Sigun) magic bowl
(This text is an extract from MCU concept from my MCU Sigyn Cosplay. I've taken over the main features associated with Sigyn's Shell one on one for my version of the MCU)
Sigyn's shell is her most powerful weapon, but at the same time she is the object of great magic. Her cup helps her to heal or look up in the future. In Norse mythology she is a goddess of the people, in Marvel Comics the daughter of a diplomat. In the MCU, a queen who was not supposed to be queen. But still, all three depictions have something in common. She does not meet us all goddess or queen, but as a wife, mother, healer or just as a good friend.
Frigga's words about Sigyn:
I greet Sigyn, the gentle goddess, beloved wife of the brother of the father.
She is playful and lovable, sometimes shy, but also wild and flipped in her own way, if she decides to show it.
This inconspicuous goddess greets wisely for writing women's women's writing.
Her name tells of victory and boldness, inner strength and strength, she is great in her mind and loving, simple in her figure.
I want to give Sigyn a horn. I greet you with pride, this goddess who is much more than just Loki's faithful bride.
Loki Sigyn and her love language
There are 5 of them:
•Praise and recognition
• Togetherness - the time just for you
• Gifts that come from the heart
• Willingness to help
•Tenderness
I think that each one comes up in its own way. Because you also have to consider how long the two have been married. Marriage still works best on an equal footing and when everyone is willing to give up.
But in Loki's and Sigyn's case, the whole thing is a bit special. Since it's already their kind of open relationships. Still, love has many faces and most have only one thing on their mind. You are together and loyal until the end of your life. Only for Loki is loyalty different from the others, so I don't just mean the point of an open relationship. He never lies to her and shows her how much he values her. And Sigyn is grateful for his honesty and the trust that he has in her. I can still very well imagine that they are still making fun of some of them together. With whom Loki shared the bed for his goals. But back to the actual topic ^^
Because Loki doesn't always, or better, almost as good as not at all about his feelings. Does he show Si6 how much he loves, appreciates and respects her. I also assume that Loki Sigyn will say "I love you" in very few moments, which are so rare that you could probably even tell them off on one hand. I am also convinced that Sigyn's nickname the Rose of Asgard was also created through Loki's campaign for Sigyn. Because Sigyn is a rose in Loki's eyes. It blossoms with him, but it can also wither. An old song comes to my mind: "Never force love out of violence, it becomes a lie". And unfortunately I have to refer to the Marvel Comics where the love story between Loki and Sigyn reflects exactly that and turns the whole thing into a story of psychological abuse. From which our little goddess has not recovered until today! And many pull the fact to say that Loki hates and disregards his wife and cheats on her because he is the prisoner in the marriage and Sigyn the evil monster. If you are only interested in a few Marvel fan groups or spend a while on TikTok. There they will witness for themselves and how an unspoken battle is being fought in this regard. But let's leave the sad team like Marvel destroyed Sigyn!
Loki proves his love for Sigyn and we can see the greatest proof in the twins Nari and Navri. Although I suspect that Vali is also a child of Loki and Sigyn and is the third child, so to speak the first born son of the two. But I don't want to go into the theory now. In any case, the fact is that we can all assume that Loki has advertised Sigyn for a very long time, maybe even for a century or more ??? And he gave her a lot of presents that she probably refused at first. But Loki just didn't give up and Sigyn just noticed how much Loki meant it to her.
He praises them for their openness and strength towards the other gods.
He gives her little presents to show her that he will never forget her. Little poems, flowers, animals that she can take care of and plants in general for her garden, we mustn't forget how close to nature she is. Maybe even a pearl every now and then or even a beautiful gemstone that Sigyn can wear as jewelry.
He takes time to be with her and sometimes stays alone with the children to give her time for them. But you also only spend time together.
They share the upbringing, the household and if someone needs Sigyn's help as a healer, I also think that Loki helps her when he is not on the road himself.
Tenderness, I think it's enough if I put it in one sentence!
In bed she has her pants on and Loki loves to give her control over in these moments.
Tumblr media
How do you meet Sigyn
For one she meet as a victorious friend, for another as a healer. Probably for you as support and inspiration.
For Loki she is strength, support, faith, hope, best friend, wife, trust, family, love, inspiration, joy, humor and so much more!
Sigyn teaches us a lot and those who know her trust her. Trust in the love that gives us and its words. Because she is also a truth goddess and we thank her for that.
Without her mercy, her love, her faith and her courage, Loki would not be who he is either. Their hearts are invincible, their ferocity a secret, their loyalty an example to each of us.
She is called the Rose of Asgard yes ... but many forget roses have thorns. Sigyn Dornen is the truth that she brings to the gods!
Whoever carries them in their hearts can be viewed as limited.
Sigyn's love
Where is the love in your faith? Where is compassion? Where is your compassion?
Where is the hope? Where is your strength, if you can only do it with a sword?
Sigyn embodies and teaches everything we could ever learn about love, compassion, and many other virtues. In her heart she carries compassion.
Sigyn's story is also one of victory: victory over shattering circumstances, over pain, loss, despair and fear. She decides to endure and thereby triumphs. As Fuensanta Arismendi once said, Lokis wife: Sigyn's strength is in her heart. Her heart is invincible.
Although many believe that Loki does not care much for her or even treats her badly. Is not that was! He does not put another woman over her, though he does not like him and that's his way of saying he loves his wife.
Tumblr media
Sigyn in today's society:
Where should i enter?
Preferably with the pop culture Marvel! See, read and have the best example of how to really break characters in Marvel! Well, we're talking about 80 years since war, even rape within marriage, is not yet a criminal offense. But what is a criminal war? With the Vikings! Women even had the right to divorce, something the gods even told them to do. I mean when I read the comics and how Sigyn IS portrayed there. Yes, completely the image of the wife in 80 years mixed with a lot from 50 years 🤮 And if we noticed Sif on the other hand dying in Norse mythology, there is just as much historical material as Sigyn in Norse mythology. And the warrior will be spoiled for her, had Sigyn only been brought into the Marvel Universe to do something again ??? Oh right, the justification for violence against women in marriage and to show that Loki is so bad. But surprise Marvel not even in Norse Mythology, Loki is not really bad. He is good and bad at the same time as are all of us. Loki steals our emotions in Norse mythology. He praises the gods in the highest tones and on the other hand he mocks them in the hardest possible way! From villain to antihero, who notices what ???
I'll give you a little help ^^ List just a current textbook on Nordic mythology and I mean real textbooks! (No rogues like "The Witch's Heart". The beautiful written stories that are still only fictional. They make good research on the characters they deal with and even I have fun reading. But it's just fiction and not a 100% Facken based story!) But compare that with the current storyline with Loki in the Marvel Comics. I almost fell off my chair with laughter 🤣🤣
Marvel dirty and humiliated Sigyn. Andres can't express it and instead of giving her a reboot, they keep going!
Tumblr media
Which led to what some of my Wiccan friends call the "Sigyn's Curse". Because Marvel has this popularity, many people out there call it that Sigyn is just like that! What brought us books in the Sigyn comes off so badly. So I don't wonder why many who belong to the Nordic faith or are Wiccas punish death who only tries to talk about it with Marvel or the other. Yes, a lot of pagans and wiccas don't like Marvel.
Sigyn is an important part of today's society 98% only to the Pagans and Wiccas. 5% of it to the Marvel fans they like, 6% to the Sigyn fans in general. Most do not know her and because of the popularity of the Marvel films, series and the Loki portrayal of Tom Hiddleston. Has Sigyn as a figure and goddess reached a level of contempt that is hardly to be topped among the unpopular gods. Even in Wicca's society there are those who deny existence, but know what to laugh about. Most of the Wiccas who have been made by Marvel have no idea what they are talking about and do comedy mature TikToks about the fact that Amora The Enchantress is also part of Norse Mythology. I can't even have pity on that, I rather ask myself whether a good psychologist should recommend her🤷‍♀️
We do not know exactly Sigyn's in Nordic mythology. But because she also worships the flu as the goddess of children, we can assume that it is. That certainly had its place, at least within large families. Especially since it can be assumed that Sigyn was more of the goddess of the small people.
But Sigyn's legacy will live on forever and as long as there are people out there who care about her. This is how long it will be and when the Marvel film and series universe is no longer relevant at some point. Will Sigyn still be there. She lives on through us, we give her the recognition she has lost through the centuries. And those who come after us will do the same 💗
Tumblr media
Sigyn the Rose of Asgard, the thorns of truth, the Butterfly of Hope, the Vixen of Pranks, the Owl of Elegance, the Rabbit of Motherhood, the Fish of Journey, the Bird of Song, the Wide of Sorrow, the Water Lily of Perfection, the Caterpillar of Change , the forget-me-not of prudence, the she-wolf of battle, the queen of the chessboard of strategy. But also the will and resolute, the judge, the consistent lady.
Many always think Loki is the brave one, but only brave because Sigyn encourages him. Behind a strong man there is usually an even stronger woman and that is Sigyn!

This is the fearsome Fenrir, one of the terrifying offspring sired by Loki, the famed trickster-God from Norse Mythology. Fenrir is a titanic wolf-creature, and as a youngster, he’s already growing so fast, and has such a nasty disposition, that the Gods grow worried that he’ll soon start devouring the Nine Worlds as easily as you or I might gobble up kernels of popcorn. To take Fenrir off the board as an active threat, the Gods commission the crafty, metalworking Dwarves to fashion an unbreakable magical fetter that might hold the great Wolf. After a few abortive early attempts, the Dwarves cook up a magical ribbon called Gleipnir. 🐺⛓ Gleipnir is constructed from six component parts: "the noise of a cat's footsteps, the beard of a woman, the roots of a mountain, the sinews of a bear, the breath of a fish, and the spittle of a bird." These ingredients are not found at most hardware stores, so the Dwarves are setting the bar pretty high here. ⛓🐺 That impossibility factor seems to work, though, because as it turns out, Gleipnir will hold Fenrir until Ragnarok, which is more or less the Norse version of the Apocalypse. Sometimes, it takes a setting of the bar to a great height if anything beneficial is going to be a possible outcome. With magic, with life: if it comes easily, it might not be all that worth having. 🐺⛓ So here's a question for the day: if you were tasked with constructing a Gleipnir of whatever sort, what "impossible" ingredients would you stir into the mix...? #fenrir #fenris #fenriswolf #gleipnir #norsemythology #ragnarok #magic #magick #witchesofinstagram #mythology #spirituality #proseedda #metaphysical #occult #loki (at Rhode Island)

That doesn't mean you can't take it! I'm teaching a class now for juniors and seniors, and I definitely have some non-majors.

Eight men survived Noah’s flood and they peopled the world. Generations came from them. Then it was still as before, when the world was more crowded and settled; at that time, it was all the multitude of mankind, who loved the desire of money and pride but neglected the respect to God. This state of mankind became so great that they would not mention God by His name.
Maðr er hét Ásgeir, kom. Ek sá draug meyjar er norðanmenn hjó .
Hann er auðigr at fé.
Þeir kómu þá er vér kómum.
“þá” は英語の “then”、“er” は英語の “when”、“þá er” は “then when”、つまり “when”。
Konu heitir Sigríðr, er búandi hennar heitir Óláfr.

Brynhildr is a shieldmaiden and a valkyrie in Germanic mythology, where she appears as a main character in the Völsunga saga and some Eddic poems.
Göndul  (Old Norse "wand-wielder) is a valkyrie. Göndul is attested in Heimskringla, Sörla þáttr, and a 14th-century Norwegian charm. In addition, Göndul appears within the valkyrie list in the Poetic Edda poem Völuspá, in both of the twoNafnaþulur lists found in the Prose Edda, and among the valkyries listed in Darraðarljóð.
