i think that the presence of Jötunn lineage in many of the Æsir is necessary to convey their relationships to the stories they tell
ive mentioned before that the Æsir, in my understanding, represent society and order, the direct opposition of the chaos of natute (the Jötnar)
but many of our most beloved Æsir deities are directly descended from Jötnar
Thor, for example, seen as the protector of humanity and a war god, was mothered by Jörđ, a Jötunn. its also no secret that Thor has a habit of going ape shit on his enemies, with a fierce, uncontrollable rage (how many times in the myths has he brutally killed Jötnar with ease in a blind rage? its badass but also a little scary)
another example is Ođinn (Odin), who is the chief of the gods, is also descended of Jötnar. while he is in the role of ultimate leadership and order, he's also heavily associated with the chaos of a battlefield, ecstacy, and the primordial, nature-driven force of magick.
but toby! what the fuck is your point here?
well, my point here is that nature and chaos is still a part of the Æsir, and us humans. no matter how "civilized" we get or are, at the end of the day, society is just a concept. anyone can be in a group, but the force of change, of anger, fear, of power and nature, thats a part of us all and it affects the way we interact with the world around us
we humans often have a tendency to fight against change or nature or things we feel we cannot control - but all of this is within us as well
when we are able to accept the deep, primordial forces that are woven into our beings, we can move forward with that power
or something, i dont know
feel free to leave your thoughts <3

🌸 Dísablót & Imbolc 🌸
Tumblr media
Happy Imbolc to all who celebrate! This holiday marks the mid-point between the winter solstice and spring equinox. I observe Dísablót at this time, and I’m so excited to formally celebrate it this year! Some of my cost effective/minimal effort celebration ideas include:
— lighting candles to represent mini bonfires welcoming in the light, warmth, and rebirth of spring
— styling my altar with images of the goddesses I work with most closely, the Nornir, the Valkyrir, my female ancestors, and any female figures who inspire me
— bake small cakes or biscuits as a symbol of the coming planting season and it’s bounty
— offering tea (awareness in present moment), flowers (requesting good favor and health), salt (purification, taste), one of the cakes made, and some crystals on my altar. The flowers and/or crystals set on the altar convey a meaning of their own and can be chosen according to your goals for the year! (If you work closely with Hel, you may wish to let your flowers wither on your altar to symbolize death and rebirth, a natural process of life)
— making a list of some of my goals for the year, especially in light of how I may or may not have gotten a start on those goals throughout January
— you can even make four holes in your garden, corresponding to the four cardinal directions, and place a cake in each to ask the Dísir to bless the planting season
— additionally, you can anoint your plow or garden tools with oil and cinnamon (consider wearing gloves) for a successful season
— little straw dolls are commonly made during Imbolc to represent the goddess Brigid. Straw decorations or dolls would make a wonderful offering for any pagan celebrating the coming spring!
I hope you all enjoy the holiday, and I would love to see a few images if anyone is setting up their altar in a new way!

I made some Jól tea!
Tumblr media
one for me, one for Loki.
it is kind of hard being a heathen on the southern hemisphere since things like celebrating Jól do not make a lot of sense when the seasons and nature just works differently around you. i was almost jealous looking at people's appreciation for snow, winter, honouring Skaði for coming back. but i still am very grateful for the land that i grew up in, for the Vættir that live in my surroundings, for nature manifesting itself differently around me.
so, i gathered some herbs typical to the Yule / winter season and made iced tea. tomorrow, if i have the energy, i probably will take a walk to a park or maybe a hill to thank Sól and the Vanir for the gift of summer.
adapting my practice to my reality is constant, hard work, but it is rewarding and a beautiful process.
honestly this turned out so good, if anyone wants the recipe just let me know.

Runes on urns
Runes on urns Bones burn do not turn your spine to Rome;
cry to the heavens ravens nest on crosses do not turn away from your faith for their so called Holy Tome.
Be stalwart ward off this Christian bane demons lurk in prayers for a scarecrow nailed to its fate. Wickedly, your spirit is snatched away the death gate is one, one of their prayers away wickedly, our brothers, mothers, all of us are gone.
Poisons slowly sicker within an uncaught breath Our grounds being wounded where hellhounds maul Fenrir to death. our myths are torn apart part for the stories told by a crowned snake shake it off, before it snatches, bites strangles you to death.
Power your believes two breaths from Tyr for success are his wrath as it fires your forges; watch it glare in your blade through his name its ashes have made and you pray.
Scream to Odin, Freya, Thor sharpen your tongues and words flail your name deep into stone and stand your truth deep to the bone! Shredded sails bear on your colors and howl them nine winds on you will never fight alone! Valhalla for one.
The harbingers battle in the skies fathom our valkyries cry blades cutting deep steel and blood weeping. We try, we stand, we defend our harvest, heritage, home let their scrying angels die shut close, smash banish their so-called Holy Tome!

¡Hail Vanir, Hai AEsir Hail Sol Hail Baldr! the gods defy gender roles in so many ways and I love it
Reblog if you support trans women practicing seidr or identifying as Volve
Reblog if you support men practicing seidr
Reblog if you understand that gender roles shouldnt restrict us, and that the gods can guide us down certain paths despite traditional gender roles.
