They can also listen to you if you are going through a tough or stressful time, or they can recommend you to a therapist or social worker. What was the ultimate result? Improved health. A simple personality conflict might often cause you to abandon a doctor who could otherwise assist identify and cure your condition. Your primary doctor will refer you to a specialist who will complement you. Family doctors save money for both you and the healthcare sector Family medicine services save money for the healthcare system. If a physician does not provide a comprehensive variety of treatments, patients are forced to seek relief elsewhere, which is costly. Patients are saved from having to hurry to the hospital by physicians who provide more services, such as family doctors. This not only saves patients money, but it also saves the healthcare system money.

⏰ 🚨 attention please🙏🚨
I am Dr. Mohammed Aldeeb,🩸💉 a dedicated specialist in emergency medical care from the Gaza Strip.
💊 🩺🩹
For years, I poured my heart and soul into my work at Al-Shifa Hospital, striving to be a doctor of great repute,
caring for the wounded and the ill with compassion and skill.💉🩹
However😥,
the devastation of war disrupted our lives and prevented us from serving our patients at Al-Shifa Hospital😣💔,
forcing me to leave my cherished home and the familiar walls of the hospital that had become my second home, a place of comfort, peace, and beautiful memories of my work.😔
As I left behind the echoes of laughter and camaraderie with my colleagues, patients, and friends,😰
I embarked on a painful journey southward. I bid farewell to the streets where I grew up, the corners I sought refuge in😥😭💔, and the colleagues who felt like family.
Memories of my formative years and the countless lives I touched during my tenure at Al-Shifa 😣and other medical facilities, such as Friends of the Patient Hospital and the Indonesian Hospital, overwhelmed me as I struggled to come to terms with the upheaval.😔😥
Despite the adversities that besieged me,
I held fast to my dream of becoming a successful doctor. 😀😁✌💚
I was fortunate enough to study medicine at Al-Azhar University, from which I graduated and later served as a teaching assistant, imparting knowledge to aspiring medical students with unwavering dedication. 😀🙏🖤
The idea of specializing in internal medicine drew me back to Al-Shifa Hospital, but sadly,
the brutal war destroyed it, shattering my hopes. In the midst of the chaos and destruction brought by war🥺😣💔
I sustained multiple injuries and narrowly escaped with my life. 🥺
The sanctuary of my home, a place of peace and beautiful memories, was completely destroyed, leaving my family and me impoverished and homeless. 😣💔😰
Yet, amidst the ruins, a glimmer of hope persists as I continue my work at Al-Aqsa Hospital😀, extending a helping hand to those in need without expecting anything in return. I draw strength from the humanity and love instilled in me by my teachers and mentors during my years of education and service.✌😁❤
Today, we find ourselves taking refuge in a humble tent, ⛺ 😭😣💔
stripped of our possessions and livelihoods. The loss of my job, my home, and some of my loved ones is a heavy burden to bear. 😢
Nevertheless, I refuse to succumb to despair, holding on to the belief that brighter days lie ahead.
With a heavy heart, I reach out to you🥺🙏💚
dear reader, seeking your assistance in securing safe passage for myself and my family from the chaos and brutality of war in Gaza. 🥺🙏🇵🇸🍉💔🖤💛💝
With your kindness and generosity🥺, I hope to reclaim the path to achieving my medical career, 🩺💉🩸
becoming a specialist in internal medicine, and returning to help my people.
This would enable me to provide care for my loved ones and contribute to the healing of our wounded nation.Your compassionate aid would mean the world to me and my family.🥺🙏❤🇵🇸✌

In black text on white background, from the news article linked above-> It seems to us - and to those inside the NHS who have leaked the document to us - that what purports to be an "assessment" in fact an exercise in bringing very significant pressure to bear on trans youth and their families to cease private treatment, backed up with a threat of a safeguarding referral to social services if they do not. // We are concerned about what appears to be a misleading exercise in gathering data on which trans youth are obtaining private treatment from abroad, for the purposes of seeking to cause or compel them to stop treatment.
In the same thick white text on black background as previous image-> So an internal NHS document has been leaked basically asking trans kids on excruciatingly ling waiting lists to come to a 'mental health assessment' where the NHS will harvest their personal information & threaten their families with a social services referral if they're found to be on private blockers/hormones & refuse to come off them. // This country is for dogs i swear.

Fundraiser Launched
Hello Bucktommy fans! I know there was very recently a fundraiser done over the holiday season. Times are tough, and I understand if it seems too soon to have yet another fundraiser. However, I felt it important to give an easy way to donate to the California Fire Foundation. This is a fundraiser through GoFundMe. Funds will go directly to the foundation.
I set the goal at $1180.
*bucktommypositivityproject is a fan project and is in no way affiliated with 9-1-1 or ABC.*
Link here
Information about the California Fire Foundation is under the cut:
Taken from their website:
The California Fire Foundation, a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization, provides emotional and financial assistance to families of fallen firefighters, firefighters and the communities they protect. Formed in 1987 by California Professional Firefighters, the California Fire Foundation’s mandate includes an array of survivor assistance projects and community initiatives:
California Firefighters Memorial: The Foundation designed, built and maintains this unique memorial to fallen firefighters at the State Capitol in Sacramento. Every year, the Foundation holds a special, annual ceremony to commemorate the bravery of those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Firefighters and Their Families: The Foundation supplies emergency support to departments and families of firefighters killed or injured in the line of duty through the California Firefighters Benevolent Fund and provides educational assistance to the children of fallen firefighters through the California Firefighters Endowment and Daniel A. Terry Scholarship program. The Foundation also provides grants to individuals who demonstrate financial hardship to take the FCTC Candidate Physical Ability Test or written exam, which are the recognized standards for physical and educational testing and recruitment within the fire service.
Victim Assistance: The Foundation’s Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency (SAVE) program brings immediate, short-term relief to survivors of fire or other natural disaster throughout California. Working together with the California Fire Foundation, firefighters throughout California distribute gift cards in the amount of $250 to eligible survivors of fire or other natural disaster, so they may purchase basic necessities such as medicine, food or clothing.
Community Improvement: The Foundation supplies public safety resources, and conducts outreach and education about fire safety issues through its Firefighters On Your Side program. Additionally, the Foundation contributes to other organizations that aim to enhance and improve the communities of California.

Hey, can you share more posts about Jungkook's future spouse? Anything interesting about her what she's like what she do etc. Ty.
hi, thank you so much for your question! i’ll share some qualities and interests that i found both heartwarming and notable about her. to me, these are some of the traits that make her truly special. please remember that this is for entertainment purposes only and based on my observations!
important note: the pictures featured in this post are from pinterest and were chosen because i felt they best represent the essence of his special one, based on my observations.
MINI PLAYLIST:
whiplash by aespa | only 1 by ariana grande | i'm that girl by beyonce | mantra by jennie | one life by justin bieber | real thing by pink sweat$ featuring tori kelly
INNER QUALITIES
⚘ MONEY HONEY (GEMINI VENUS + MARS 10H) ⇢ this placement suggests that she’s likely to be business savvy and able to see the bigger picture, which helps her spot opportunities that can help her build a successful career. she may have a strong sense of ambition and creativity that enhances her leadership abilities — not just in taking charge, but in setting practical steps to achieve her professional goals. this blend of determination and intense focus allows her to overcome any challenges that comes her way, which makes her successful in both short and long-term goals. she may also see herself as a provider and protector, where her motivation extends beyond her own personal accomplishments. her goals may be deeply intertwined with a sense of responsibility for her family and loved ones, giving her an even stronger reason to succeed— not just for herself, but for those who depend on her. this dedication could make her a reliable and supportive presence in both her professional and personal circle. this trait is one that tests her, engages her deeply, and in the end, blesses her with growth and insight!
⚘ PRIVACY (LEO 12H + MAGHA MOON DK) ⇢ she likely values her privacy deeply and understands the need to balance her heart for service with her need for solitude. this selective nature may make her cautious with her trust despite her friendly nature. as mentioned before, she radiates a quiet confidence that makes her presence felt, and while she may resonate with this inner strength, those around her — and maybe even the world at large — may place her on a pedestal, while she herself may prefer to remain in the background. at times, attention may feel overwhelming as she may simply just want to support others rather than take the spotlight herself, choosing peace over recognition. she may dream of expressing her creative talents, but this dynamic might sometimes lead her to hesitaste in revealing her true self. ultimately, she could be someone who is intentional in what she reveals, especially in the public eye, showing up only when it aligns with her values.
⚘ PURE HEARTED (PISCES JUPITER 7H) ⇢ this is my favorite trait because it's so endearing! she may radiate an innocent-like joy, that brightens any space she's in. she approaches life with intentionality and sincerity, believing that it's important to show that light can exist even in the darkest moments and that empathy matters. people may look to her as a source of inspiration and be drawn to her genuine motivation to support and uplift others. even in her own struggles, she’ll see her challenges as an opportunity for growth, encouraging others to do the same. she likely believes in cultivating a mindset that taps into gratitude and vitality, seeing joy as a powerful tool in navigating life's challenges. her ability to romanticize life isn’t about avoiding reality but stems from a genuine desire to see the silver lining in every situation. honestly, people may even see her as ‘human medicine’ for the healing aura she naturally exudes.
NATURAL GIFTS and ABILITIES
⚘ FAITH ⇢ again, she has a remarkable ability to see the silver lining in every situation and maintains faith that everything will work out. while it may be challenging to apply it to herself at times, she’s great at supporting and inspiring others, which is something she truly values.
⚘ HUMANITARIAN ⇢ she may feel like helping people is a part of her calling, so she may find ways to always give back to all and support those in need.
PASSIONS and PASTIMES
⚘ ARTS AFICIONADO ⇢ she likely has a deep appreciation for art and music, viewing both as therapeutic and essential to society. to her, the meaning behind each piece of art is an experience that weaves together various aspects of life in ways that other forms of expression cannot. art brings together all her interests – it sparks inspiration, reflection, and, most importantly, joy. music is most likely a shared passion and a point of connection between her and jungkook, so it wouldn’t be surprising if they create playlists or share songs with each other, as they may have similar tastes. she may also be musically inclined, with a good ear for sound and an artistic sensibility that helps her discern the nuances of music. for her, music creates a sense of connection, as she values shared moments that bring mental and emotional closeness with her partner.
⚘ CREATOR ⇢ she may find joy in activities that involve building and constructing, which in turn sharpens her creative skills!
⚘ HISTORY BUFF ⇢ she may be drawn to history, with a natural curiosity that inspires her to explore historical narratives for a deeper understanding of life. at times, she may not understand mainstream trends until she delves into the ‘why' lol. her curiosity allows her to connect with her interests on a deeper level, giving her an opportunity to not only expand her knowledge but to also shape her way of thinking and strengthen her creativity skills. she likely enjoy learning through documentaries, travel, or even reading and studying — especially when it involves foreign culture!
SHARED INTERESTS
these two will most likely be similar to each other, like two peas in a pod lol. even if there are any differences, they’ll find ways to smooth out the rough edges to create a balanced connection, which is so cute!
⚘ LOVE LANGUAGE ⇢ i’m almost certain these two prioritize the same love language: acts of service and quality time. for them, actions speak louder than words, and they feel most loved and appreciated when they spend meaningful time together, and make an effort to show up for one another. while other love languages also play a role, they’re naturally woven into the moments they share. this shared approach in love may help establish a solid foundation for their relationship, where each partner feels seen and valued.
⚘ RELATIONSHIP DYNAMICS ⇢ she and jungkook may share a similar approach to relationships, valuing loyalty and commitment in both romantic and platonic connections. both tend to be ‘ride-or-die’ types, where they are willing to support those they care about through thick and thin. even though they are friendly, kindhearted and enjoy meeting new people, they may take their time when it comes to building genuine trust. for them, true friendship or partnership takes time because it’s built on shared experiences and understanding. so, when they do reach that level with someone, it’s a sign of deep respect and genuine love.
thank you for reading — i hope you enjoyed!

Thoughts I had about Aitana and Ma'am!R:
Technically, R and Aitana are 'working royals' so R moving to Spain was classed as her helping in foreign affairs which mainly means she can do whatever she likes in Spain so long as she represents the Royal Family at certain events throughout the year
Like her brothers, she did join the army because it's what was expected of her. She didn't know what she wanted to do as a degree at uni so joined the armed forces as soon as she finished school. Her main aim was to one up her brothers so she became a combat medic. She actually really hates medicine though so only served five years before coming home but she successfully one upped her brothers in the public's eyes.
She's very much the people's princess even though she flagrantly disregards royal rules and procedure. By all rights, the public probably shouldn't like her because of it but they do
Her cause is women's sports which works excellently with Aitana because that means on the off season, they go to lots of events and conferences to get young girls into sports
If R wasn't royalty, she could have been a professional fencer because she was very talented at it and she really wanted to do it and still kind of holds resentment about the fact that she wasn't allowed because she was royalty
Even though they already got married in Greece, Aitana and R have to have a 'proper' wedding in England as well because some very right wing papers were bashing R for not following royal protocol. R insisted that she'd be allowed to wear her military uniform because she'd earned the right due to her military service. Aitana was the one to have the big fancy dress
The Barcelona girls, some of the Spain girls and some more of Aitana's friends all attended and it was truly the fanciest wedding they'd ever been to because of all of the ponce and ceremony of it all
R was even more nervous for this wedding than her first one and couldn't stop herself from turning around as soon as Aitana walked in even though she wasn't supposed to
R loves to joke that now Aitana's a princess of England, that makes her eligible to play for the Lionesses. Aitana tells her to not joke about that kind of stuff
Aitana never gets used to being a princess and it shocks her every time someone calls her that. She tries to do DAZN interviews and they're always like 'and Her Royal Highness, Princess Aitana of England' and she just stands there so awkwardly
So R is obviously Charles and Diana's daughter and one of the first things Aitana's parents asked her is if she thought that her mother's death was set up. Atiana told them that that was so insensitive and chewed them out for a bit but R was like 'I've never really thought about it much. What do you guys think?'
Aitana and R are planning on having kids at some point but as of right now, R is trying to convince Aitana to let them have a couple of Corgis

While the Cass Review has been presented by the U.K. media, politicians and some prominent doctors as a triumph of objective inquiry, its most controversial recommendations are based on prejudice rather than evidence. Instead of helping young people, the review has caused enormous harm to children and their families, to democratic discourse and to wider principles of scientific endeavour. There is an urgent need to critically examine the actual context and findings of the report. Since its 2020 inception, the Cass Review’s anti-trans credentials have been clear. It explicitly excluded trans people from key roles in research, analysis and oversight of the project, while sidelining most practitioners with experience in trans health care. The project centered and sympathized with anti-trans voices, including professionals who deny the very existence of trans children. Former U.K. minister for women and equalities Kemi Badenoch, who has a history of hostility toward trans people even though her role was to promote equality within the government, boasted that the Cass Review was only possible because of her active involvement. The methodology underpinning the Cass Review has been extensively criticized by medical experts and academics from a range of disciplines. Criticism has focused especially on the effect of bias on the Cass approach, double standards in the interpretation of data, substandard scientific rigor, methodological flaws and a failure to properly substantiate claims. For example, although the existing literature reports a wide range of important benefits of social transition and no credible evidence of harm, the Cass Review cautions against it. The review also dismisses substantial documented benefits of adolescent medical transition as underevidenced while highlighting risks based on evidence of significantly worse quality. A warning about impaired brain maturation, for instance, cites a single, very short speculative paper that in turn rests on one experimental study with female mice. Meanwhile extensive qualitative data and clinical consensus are almost entirely ignored. These issues help explain why the Cass recommendations differ from previous academic reviews and expert guidance from major medical organisations such as the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) and the American Academy of Pediatrics. WPATH’s experts themselves highlight the Cass report’s “selective and inconsistent use of evidence,” with recommendations that “often do not follow from the data presented in the systematic reviews.” Leading specialists in transgender medical care from the U.S. and Australia emphasize that “the Review obscures key findings, misrepresents its own data, and is rife with misapplications of the scientific method.” For instance, the Cass report warns that an “exponential change in referrals” to England’s child and adolescent gender clinic during the 2010s is “very much faster than would be expected.” But this increase has not been exponential, and the maximum 5,000 referrals it notes in 2021 represents a very small proportion of the 44,000 trans adolescents in the U.K. estimated from 2021 census data.

2025 Supported Org: Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA)
The official death toll in Gaza, since the start of the war in October 2023, is nearly 47,000 people, including about 18,000 children -- and most experts and analysts believe the true number of deaths if significantly higher. Those that remain are facing unimaginable challenges: they lack food, water, and many of the other basic supplies for survival. Many of them are severely injured or ill. Although the recent ceasefire deal seems likely to open the way for a significant increase in civilian aid, Palestinians in Gaza are still in acute need of support.
The Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA) has worked for over 30 years to protect the rights and improve the lives of children in the Middle East through aid, empowerment and education. Since October of 2023 they have mobilized their existing grassroots network to deliver supplies, drinking water, and hot meals to families in Gaza, as well as to provide emotional and psychological support to children there. Based in Berkeley, California, MECA operates both in the Middle East to provide direct humanitarian aid and services, and in the US and internationally to raise awareness about the lives of children in the region and encourages meaningful action.
MECA’s work in the Middle East includes:
Direct aid including food, medicine, medical supplies, and clothes as well as books, toys and school supplies. Since 1988, they have sent more than $31 million in aid to children in Palestine, Iraq and Lebanon
Financial support and professional assistance to community organizations in the West Bank and Gaza that help meet Palestinian children’s needs, including clinics, kindergartens, counseling centers, libraries; accessible parks and playgrounds; sports teams, and dance, music and art programs
University scholarships for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank
You can support MECA as a creator in the 2025 FTH auction (or as a bidder, when the time comes to donate for the auctions you’ve won.)

Alyssa Tirrell at MMFA:
Dr. Eithan Haim, a former medical resident at Texas Children's Hospital, was indicted in May for allegedly illegally accessing trans patients’ records, which he subsequently shared with Manhattan Institute senior fellow Chris Rufo. Right-wing media figures have since defended Haim and brought him in for interviews, often equating the care allegedly provided at Texas Children's Hospital — such as the prescription of "puberty blockers" — with harm or mutilation and alleging that Haim is the target of political persecution. The campaign has successfully raised both Haim's profile and at least $888,865, which he claims will be used for both his legal defense and “offensive legal action against those who have abused their professional responsibility in service of radical transgender ideology.”
Haim allegedly illegally accessed trans patients’ records
On February 18, 2022, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton issued an opinion that qualified youth gender-affirming care as "child abuse", prompting Texas Children's Hospital to announce that it would stop proving such care. Although the opinion was not legally binding, the hospital released a statement announcing that it would stop prescribing gender-affirming hormone therapies. The statement, which also alluded to recent measures that Gov. Greg Abbott had taken against families of children receiving gender-affirming care, added that “this step was taken to safeguard our healthcare professionals and impacted families from potential legal ramifications.” [Office of the Attorney General of Texas, 2/18/22; American Civil Liberties Union, 2/23/22; The Washington Post, 3/8/22]
In late spring 2023, Dr. Eithan Haim allegedly accessed the records of trans patients at Texas Children's Hospital and shared them with Manhattan Institute senior fellow Chris Rufo. Haim, a resident at Baylor College of Medicine who had previously conducted rotations at Texas Children's Hospital, shared redacted files with Rufo that allegedly demonstrated that the hospital was continuing to provide gender-affirming services to minors. [Houston Public Media, 6/10/24; U.S. Attorney's Office, Southern District of Texas, 6/17/24; United States District Court of the Southern District of Texas, 5/29/24]
On June 2, 2023, a Texas bill restricting gender-affirming care for children was signed into law. S.B. 14 prohibited “the provision to certain children of procedures and treatments for gender transitioning, gender reassignment, or gender dysphoria” as well as “the use of public money or public assistance to provide those procedures and treatments.” The law went into effect on September 1 of that year. [Texas legislature, 6/2/23]
[...]
Right-wing media figures platformed Haim in solo interviews, where he defended himself
Since January 2024, with the revelation of his identity, Eithan Haim has appeared as a guest alongside many prominent right-wing media figures. In these interviews Haim neither claimed to have worked directly with trans patients nor disputed sharing the documents with Chris Rufo. Instead, Haim often alleged that he was being unfairly targeted and defended his case on the grounds that the care allegedly provided at Texas Children's Hospital was harmful to pediatric patients.
Right-wing media defend Dr. Eithan Haim’s HIPAA-violating ways of illegally accessing trans patients’ records while at Texas Children’s Hospital in which he shared those records with far-right anti-LGBTQ+ agitator Christopher Rufo.

That's the thing though bc there would be portions ga who aren't here for the queer storylines are good with buck and hen have queer partners chase those partners aren't mains and so it's sort if a out of sight out of mind things but if you have 3 of the 5 mains as queer (not that more representation isn't good) it becomes a queer show and that would put more people off that it would join bc a lot of the fandom has a fundamental misunderstanding of the bulk of the audience that brings in the ratings
I agree with you ! I'm also gonna use this to bounce off of to talk about how having Buck and Eddie together would change the dynamic within the firehouse which I would say is probably one of the top reasons many people watch this show for. Whether you watch more for the emergencies or the personal moments, the dynamic between the team is the foundation to making those part work as well as they do. Changing this could affect ratings.
Rest under the cut because it got way too long
First, it's very unlikely that in the real LAFD that Eddie and Buck could work on the same shift. There would be a conflict of interest there, as much as everyone should be professional, there is always that chance that they may in times of distress priotise their romantic partner and not on the job. It's like in medicine. For example, it is against most policies to carry out any kind of procedure, examination, or consultion on a family member. Having them seen by a non related professional reduces the chance of bias, thus reducing the chance of harm or exploitation. Having them on the same team could also mean that they bring home life disputes into work, which distracting them and going on to cause harm to civilians, co-workers, or themselves. While yes, 911 is not a perfect example of the real world, I don't think this is something they would necessarily forgo. It's fun in fanfics to have it explained as okay by mysterious paperwork, but irl and in the show, it would not happen this way. (I do understand that in ls Nancy and Mateo are together while in the same firehouse, but they are also under different captains and work in different teams. As such they spend much less time together in comparison to what Buck and Eddie would be doing as they do not exclusively work on the same team and will be going on different calls and in different vehicles compared to Buck and Eddie, who work on the same team and also go to scenes in the same vehicle).
Having two main characters who are within the same team would also mess with the balance of the show. Obviously, bathena are both main characters, but they do not both work for the same service and also arguably the main characters of 911, so they will get more screen time and focus as they bring in the GA audience. Eddie and Buck are both within the fire service, and Eddie is also the bottom billed main. The focus would be off, and with how some fans see it, they want the focus to be on their relationship, ignoring that they are not the main draw of the show and thus turn away GA. The show would not feel quite right as more of the firehouse scenes may feel like there is a focus on those two rather than the whole team, and tbh I wouldn't want that. Also, realistically, as they would be likely working the same shift (in the world the shippers want), they would be around each other a lot. That would put strain on any relationship and also parenting Chris (which I will not go into as i am not a parent myself so do not understand all the nuances of it but as a child of a parents who had to work longer hours and spent time in both breakfast and afterschool clubs its hard to not be able to spend that much time with them and also increases the cost of childcare, once my dad got into teaching summers and breaks were a lot more fun because he was around more. Tldr it would be hard on chris to not be able to see both guardians for long periods if they both worked on the same shifts). Holidays all together would be hard as it is likely harder for both of them to get time off at the same time. There would be a lot of strain and stress in that relationship, of course people could make it work but as Eddie has been shown to struggle to communicate issues that would make it harder to work through issues before they turn into serious problems and Buck also has his own issues when it comes to relationships and would likely burn himself out trying to make sure the relationship worked and likely struggling with abandonedment issues etc.
I think a lot of this would lead to not fun drama to watch on the show or it would have to be handwaved away to make it all work. I wouldn't want that, and I doubt the GA would either. They don't watch the show for Buck and Eddie. I think the change in dynamics would turn away people from the show and would definitely turn away the less tolerant people. The GA also, like Tommy and Buck together they have had a good response to that, so why would they throw it away for a part of the online fandom. Buck and Tommy will be here to stay for a little while due to that alone and I think many people now (including the GA) want to see Buck settled down in a long term relationship and to see Eddie get a partner that he can settle down with, without breaking up Buck and Tommy.
It's amazing how many queer stories and characters we have gotten in 911, and while yes, I would love and be accepting of more, I don't think Eddie will be one of them.

A man who got where he is, careerwise and having a family by transitioning later in life, wants to take that way from minors.

Levine, MD, the 17th Assistant Secretary for Health (ASH) for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; and Charlotte Clymer, writer, transgender activist, and military veteran speak on stage during Learning With Love: The 2023 PFLAG National Convention, four days of educating, lobbying, networking, and leading with love, taking place October 19-22, 2023 in Washington, DC. A head-on collision between science and politics
By JESSE SINGAL JUN 25, 2024
When the World Professional Association for Transgender Health’s Standards of Care Version 8 was released in September 2022, a very strange thing happened: WPATH removed references to minimum age requirements for various medical interventions, describing the change as a “correction” in a notice that now reads, weirdly: “This correction notice has been removed as it referred to a previous version of the article, which was published in error.” Whatever happened, exactly, it’s clear that until late in the game the document did have age minimums until, suddenly, it did not.
The SoC 8 was supposed to have been created via something called the Delphi process. As the document itself explains: “Consensus on the final recommendations was attained using the Delphi process that included all members of the guidelines committee and required that recommendation statements were approved by at least 75% of members.” Suffice it to say that making a sudden, major change so late in the game calls into question whether that process was fully adhered to.
Thanks to a rather remarkable document just unsealed as part of Boe v. Marshall, one of the many American lawsuits over youth gender medicine, we now have a potential explanation for why the age guidelines were removed: direct pressure from assistant secretary for health of the Department of Health and Human Services Admiral Rachel Levine (who is a trans woman herself) and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
The document is titled “Appendix A To Supplemental Expert Report Of James Cantor, Ph.D. In it Cantor, a Canadian sex researcher, critic of youth gender medicine, and frequent expert witness on behalf of those attempting to ban or or restrict it (including in this case), claims that “Assistant Secretary for Health Dr. Rachel Levine strongly pressured WPATH leadership to rush the development and issuance of SOC-8, in order to assist with Administration political strategy.”
He backs this claim up with the following internal communications from WPATH members involved with the creation of the SoC 8 (here and elsewhere in the document, the names of the people who wrote the words in question are redacted):
I have just spoken to Admiral Levine today, who—as always is extremelysupportive of the SOC 8, but also very eager for its release—so to ensureintegration in the US health policies of the Biden government. So, let’s crack onwith the job!!!
I am meeting with Rachel Levine and her team next week, as the US Department of Health is very keen to bring the trans health agenda forward.
The failure of WPATH to be ready with SOC 8 is proving a barrier to optimal policy progress and she [Dr. Levine] was eager to learn when SOC 8 might be published.
[T]his should be taken as a charge from the United States government to do what is required to complete the project immediately.
More worryingly, Cantor charges that “Assistant Secretary Levine also attempted to and did influence the substantive content of SOC-8, based on political goals rather than science. Specifically, Assistant Secretary Levine, though [sic] a staff member, pressured WPATH to remove recommended minimum ages for medical transition treatments from SOC-8.”
Here, too, he has evidence from anonymized emails written by those involved in the SoC 8:
Sarah Boateng, who is Adm. Levine’s chief of staff [said the] biggest concern is the section below in the Adolescent Chapter that lists specific minimum ages for treatment, she is confident, based on the rhetoric she is hearing in DC, and from what we have already seen, that these specific listings of ages, under 18, will result in devastating legislation for trans care. She wonders if the specific ages can be taken out and perhaps an adjunct document could be created that is published or distributed in a way that is less visible than the SOC8, is the way to go.
The issue of ages and treatment has been quite controversial (mainly for surgery) and it has come up again. We sent the document to Admiral Levine. . . She like [sic] the SOC-8 very much but she was very concerned that having ages (mainly for surgery) will affect access to health care for trans youth and maybe adults too. Apparently the situation in the USA is terrible and she and the Biden administration worried that having ages in the document will make matters worse. She asked us to remove them. We have the WPATH executive committee in this meeting and we explained to her that we could not just remove them at this stage.
[W]e heard your [Dr. Levine’s] comments regarding the minimal age criteria for transgender healthcare adolescents; the potential negative outcome of these minimal ages as recommendations in the US [. . . ] Consequently, we have changes to the SOC 8 in this respect. Given that the recommendations for minimal ages for the various gender affirming medical and surgical intervention are consensus-based, we could not remove them from the document. Therefore, we have made changes as to how the minimal ages are presented in the documents. [Note: “your” may well refer to an aide of Levine’s rather than the Secretary herself, though it’s unclear.]
Cantor also includes emails from SoC 8 contributors expressing surprise at the sudden change, including this one making. . . well, the same point everyone else made after news of the late-stage “correction” broke:
I don’t see how we can simply remove something that important from the document—without going through a Delphi—at this final stage of the game [. . . ] I realize that those in favor of the bans are going to go right to the age criteria and ignore the fact that we actually strengthened the strictness of the criteria to help clinicians better discern appropriate surgical candidates from those who are inappropriate [. . . ] It’s all about messaging and marketing.
I’m actually crashing on a different but related freelance story at the moment. Check out Leor Sapir’s Twitter timeline for more details about this and another just-unsealed document. Next week, when I’ve caught my breath, I’ll write a little bit more about this as well as yet another damning claim Cantor makes, that the American Academy of Pediatrics “issued an ultimatum to WPATH: Should WPATH not delete the age minimums, AAP would not only withhold endorsement of SOC-8, but would publicly oppose the document.”
But I wanted to at least get this short piece up, because the Levine angle is important and alarming. It demonstrates an indisputable conflict between how WPATH has portrayed the SoC 8 — as a document steeped in evidence and careful deliberation on the part of experts — and how the guidelines were actually formulated.

A long-awaited report out this week found that medical professionals in the UK who advocate for gender transition in children are misguided ideologues.
Written by British pediatrician Dr. Hilary Cass, The Cass Review, which is nearly 400 pages and took more than four years to compile, comes to the following conclusions:
Thousands of vulnerable young people were given life-altering treatments with “no good evidence on the long-term outcomes of interventions to manage gender-related distress.”
“It has been suggested that hormone treatment reduces the elevated risk of death by suicide in this population, but the evidence found did not support this conclusion.”
“Social justice” ideology is driving medical decision-making, and “the toxicity of the debate” has created an environment “where professionals are so afraid to openly discuss their views.”
Activists insist the science on this matter is settled, but Cass’s tone recalls a stern British nanny calmly explaining to unruly children how to get their room in order. She shows us that everything about this issue is unsettled, and unsettling. For instance, she notes that “social transition”—when very young children assume other gender identities—is an “active intervention” that may set youths on a path to medical transition. And it may even make gender dysphoria worse.
The review, commissioned by England’s National Health Service, comes after more than a decade of whistleblowing by clinicians at the country’s Gender Identity Development Services, or GIDS, which was established in 1989 (but mostly off the radar for its first 20 years, because few children and families sought its services).
These whistleblowers detailed how kids were fast-tracked to medication while a culture of fear grew around raising any concerns, even as demand for youth gender medicine exploded. Eventually, the NHS decommissioned GIDS and hired the neutral, no-nonsense Cass to detail what went wrong and what to do right moving forward.
Her report made the further damning conclusions:
Clinicians “are unable to reliably predict which children/young people will transition successfully and which might regret or detransition at a later date.”
A disproportionate number of patients were “birth registered females presenting in adolescence. . . . a different cohort from that looked at by earlier studies.”
Many parents feared their children had been medicalized by professionals who didn’t take other difficulties into account, “such as loss of a parent, traumatic illness, diagnosis of neurodiversity, and isolation or bullying in school.”
There is a lack of strong evidence to show that puberty blockers “may improve gender dysphoria or overall mental health.”
The majority of gender-dysphoric patients in early studies found that their symptoms desisted during puberty, with most coming out as gay or bisexual later.
Cass notes that “for most young people, a medical pathway will not be the best way to manage their gender-related distress.” She supports expanding the treatment to regional, holistic centers, essentially ending the specialist gender clinic model. That treatment should be based on unbiased psychological care, and robust and consistent evaluation tools must be developed so reliable evidence can finally be gathered.
This final report—and an interim one Cass issued in 2022—echoes what a number of Western nations, such as Finland and Sweden, have found when they reviewed their own youth gender services. It also underscores what we see in the United States: poor quality research, an unstudied population, and detransitioners traumatized by the treatment they received.
Today, red states are banning the medicalization of gender dysphoric youth, while some blue states have declared themselves medical sanctuaries for minors seeking transition. Medical associations—from the American Academy of Pediatrics to the American Psychological Association—continue to support the “affirmative” model criticized by Cass in her report.
In her review, Cass directly addresses the 9,000 young people who have moved through gender treatments via the NHS, stating bluntly: research “has let us all down, most importantly you.”
The U.S. needs to form a truly bipartisan commission that looks at the evidence regarding youth gender medicine. As things stand now, we will continue to be stuck in a perpetual culture war, with parents and distressed kids paying the price.
