Severus always tells himself that he hates the Muggle world and Spinner’s End with every fiber of his being, that everything non-magical disgusts him to his core—until, one random summer, during yet another stretch of being locked up in that godforsaken house, he has to go out for some reason.

And suddenly, he’s swearing like a sailor, talking like he never set foot in a school, cursing to high heaven about bloody muggle cars and the fucking traffic that nearly ran him over. Meanwhile, some random elderly Muggle woman mistakes him for a homeless man because he’s wearing fifteen-year-old Muggle clothes that should’ve been thrown out ages ago—but, damn, they’re comfortable.

And while he’s in the shop, muttering under his breath because he forgot to exchange the right money, it hits him—he hasn’t had to pretend for a single moment. No need to be stoic. No need to keep up appearances. No need to act like an untouchable intellectual or maintain an air of absolute composure while forcing an accent that isn’t his.

And fuck, what a relief.

And fuck, what a nightmare realizing it.

An apology won't erase years of torment, let alone a murder attempt

JAMES POTTER'S REDEMPTION???

Scrolling through Tiktok and the algorithm decided to give me a video about "the prank". And in the comment section, I see Marauders fan trying to defend the Marauders. It was okay, until I see them say

"James saving Snape's life is his redemption?"

I mean, EXCUSE ME???

You say 'saving his life', as in James Potter cleaning up his own mess. Said mess being HIM and his gang baited Severus Snape into the same room with a literal werewolf that could kill him???

And by realising how stupid it is, by pulling Snape out of the situation that HE created, he REDEEMED for pushing Snape into it in the first place?

Oh wow? Is that what redemption means now?

And in a way, it's not similar to "Saving his life" as Dumbledore nobly put it. James Potter knew how dangerous Remus Lupin was, and yes, even if he saved Snape in the end, he still owed Snape more than an apology, for all the things he had done.

Furthermore, they also said "Remus was too scare to mention it" or "He was traumatise too", "He regretted it later", etc.

Okay, let just assume that he remembered, let assume that at the time, he was too scare of being expell to face Snape.

How about in Harry's third year? How about that?

Did he, canonically, apologise? Or did he just take Snape's potion, say a thank, and then act all friendly?

There is just so many things wrong, and the ways they were defended ridiculously underwhelmed the trauma and the risk they had put a schoolmate through, as well as how light they treated it later.

And don't even get me started on that blasted fanfiction that they all prayed to everynight. It's blasphemed.

“We haven’t seen her,” Lupin said. 

“Then I’ll wait.” Severus moved to stand against the wall, giving Black and Lupin plenty of space to pass him. 

“What do you need to see Evans for so badly?” The boys were now right in front of him.

“It’s private.”

“You’re not winning any points with me, Snivellus. I don’t like the idea of a Slytherin waiting in this corridor to ambush someone.”

“I’m not going to ambush anyone. I’m merely waiting here.”

“Come on, Sirius.” Lupin started tugging at Black’s sleeve. “Lily can handle herself. And if anyone else gets hexed, we’ll know exactly who to come for.”

Severus rolled his eyes. But the portrait hole had swung open again, and Lily herself climbed out the hole. 

“Lily!” Severus pushed past Black and Lupin, as he and Lily collided in the middle of the corridor, for she had evidently come running when she saw him. He wrapped her in a tight hug and felt her arms tight around him as well. 

“What the hell, Lily?” said Black. 

But his voice sounded very far away—wrapped around Lily, Severus’ mind was a placid sea. All the horrible thoughts he’d in bed that morning were swept away. This was exactly right, and he was exactly where he was supposed to be.

I've read a fanfic one time where Severus had a very refined taste in matters of tea and the snacks that compliment such beverages. While it's interesting to think about it as a direct effect of his potion brewing interest I have to disagree. A lot of potions are foul in taste and no intelligent potion brewer will just taste their experiments, plus he is a very busy man and he doesn't have a lot of moments to indulge himself so all his meals are fast and efficient. The guy is surviving on hogwarts canteen and his energy potions like some medical intern.

since i cant help but wonder as a graduating high school student— since severus graduated in the late 70s-early 80s, who went to his hogwarts graduation?

assuming you needed both parents to attend, tobias obviously wouldn't have been there, not only because he's a muggle but come on i don't think he would've cared much about his own son

eileen probably couldn't bare to go back to Hogwarts especially if it meant she would probably see her friends and their kids living a better life than she ever did, or she felt too guilty

that, or like some HCs i've read in fics, she died in severus's 6th year

since sev and lily ended their friendship two years prior, did the evanses know about what happened? did they congratulate him when they saw him unaware of what happened or were the evanses not there because of the risk of the first war attacking them for being muggles?

did any of the professors stand in as a parent to give him his medals/degree (if hogwarts has those) when he walked on stage? did the marauders subtly taunt him when he did?

did his pureblooded friends in his year congratulate him? leave him alone? did lucius and narcissa stand in as his parents? (<<it does sound possible)

imagine he never displays his degree even in his own private quarters because he doesn't think it's a big when in reality everyone does display it because it's a huge deal like you just finished school and it's a big turning point of your life in the (wizarding) world

if severus ever gets close to the staff/he starts trusting them a little more with that information, i wonder what they'd think

I don’t feel sorry for James Potter. I don’t feel bad that he never got to be an adult, that he didn’t get to see his son grow up, or that he died in such a pathetic and pitiful way. I feel absolutely no sympathy. I have zero empathy for a hypocritical, abusive brat who took advantage of his privilege to bully and torment his classmates simply because he was bored and could do so without consequences. I don’t feel sorry for someone who claims to fight for people’s rights but, beyond those pretty words, spends his time tormenting those who are disadvantaged and vulnerable. I have no respect for someone who had everything—socially, economically, and in terms of family—to be a decent person but instead made the conscious decision to publicly strip a classmate against his will and choke him just because he felt like it at that moment. Sorry, but no. I’d take a bastard with terrible ideas who is at least honest about his values—no matter how bad—over a disgusting hypocrite who plays the hero for an audience but is absolute trash behind the scenes.

Voldemort was a son of a bitch and a bastard, but killing James Potter doesn’t even make the list of his worst actions—it belongs in a special category of poetic justice. There’s no better fate for a bargain-bin wannabe hero than dying in his pajamas because he forgot his wand and contributed absolutely nothing to the war.
