NO SHE LIGHTS HIM ON FIRE WTF IS WRONG WITH YALL
Hermione:
*Literally sets Snape on fire*.
*Steals from him*.
*Knocks him unconscious*
Snape: *Makes one rude comment about her teeth*
The fandom: Wow, he's such a child abusing psychopath & shouldn't be allowed to teach!
Mm... I can sense some hypocrisy here.

Do you think Severus would be as hated as he is now by the fandom if his character had died back because of the prank? (Let’s act like maybe someone else spied on the prophecy or something)
Like if he had just been a little boy that died because of Sirius recklessness
Well, in that case, none of what came afterward would have happened—no “Mudblood” incident, no joining the Death Eaters, no him becoming a teacher, nothing. I mean, if Severus had died in The Prank, then literally none of these things would even be known because Harry would never have met him.

so i just saw a post from an autism/adhd tumblr about adult thumb sucking as stimming but as someone who's never really done it the only thing i knew about it was a girl at secondary school who was made to stop because she'd had braces and it would make her teeth wonky again
so now i hc that snape has crooked teeth because he sucked his thumb well into adulthood to self-soothe in private bc obviously never did so in public since childhood because he was teased enough already

This was originally going to be a comment, but then it ended up being too long- so here :D
I have a pretty consistent headcanon that Severus, Lily and Remus made up a lil trio during the beginning of their Hogwarts years. (See tag “theweredoes” for reference)
During that time, both of them had a mini crush on one another, but w/ the secrecy of Remus’ werewolf status and the general assholeness of the Marauders nothing ever really came from it.
After Remus breaks up w/ Sirius, I imagine he tries to date other people but has a realization that he never truly got over Severus during his time at Hogwarts. They already moderately converse w/ one another bc of the order, but after the breakup Remus confesses all the less than ideal aspects of the relationship.
Severus, understandably, stares at him like he’s an idiot for letting so many things go within the relationship, but it serves as a sort of bonding moment between them.
Both of them are absolute cowards when it comes to their feelings, but after a nasty fight, both run off to Minerva respectively (after different amounts of at home sulking). She sets them right and next thing they know they’re partners.
Somewhere along the way I think Remus forgot to mention that he adopted Harry-
I keep thinking of a scenario where Remus and Sirius break up (sometime around 5th to 6th year) leading to Remus trying to date people.
In this AU, Remus adopts Harry after discovering the abuse he withstood at the Dursley’s. Sirius was unable to because of his wanted felon status, but Remus was able to find a werewolf shaped loop hole for himself.
Following the break up, Remus tries to get over Sirius by dating around. Harry encourages it obviously as he wants his adoptive father to be happy with someone else but doesn’t really do much else besides that.
And after a lil while Harry hears nothing about him dating, but still sees him going out on a weekly basis. He’s curious, but aware enough that asking would likely be an invasion of privacy so he just lets sleeping dogs lie (ha!) Until one day, after a month of summer break, Severus shows up.
Harry’s face just drops, because he knows, in an instant he has gathered all the pieces of the puzzle and clicked them together. He knows Remus’s type, Snape fits it perfectly, and he’s also heard the stories from their escapades during Hogwarts, by all accounts they might as well be a match made in heaven.
So the first thing he says when Remus introduces the idea of him dating Severus is the iconic line of, “I’m not calling him Dad.”
It has Remus sputtering in embarrassment and Severus dumbfounded but also sneering.

The Sneep, Desperately trying to explain things to Lily:
Tumblr media
He's trying so hard to make her understand why Remus Lupin must be a werewolf, but it's just not happening. (Ironically, he's so disheveled, he ends up looking more like a werewolf than Lupin.)
BONUS: The Sneep, Enthusiastically trying to explain Dementors to Lily once upon a time

I've noticed something about Snape—one of his biggest red lines, the thing that truly pushes him to his limit, is when someone's life is in danger.
In those moments, he becomes the most vulnerable version of himself. He forgets everything—every grudge, every precaution, every defense mechanism—and his only focus is getting people out of harm's way, no matter the cost.
So vulnerable that hearing about Ginny Weasley's kidnapping forces him to lean on the back of a chair. So vulnerable and unguarded that while saving Harry from Quirrell’s curse, an eleven-year-old sets him on fire. So vulnerable that, in his attempt to manage the chaos of the Shrieking Shack—with children, a werewolf, and a supposed murderer—he’s disarmed by 13-year-olds. He's so reckless that he makes an Unbreakable Vow for Draco. So reckless that he chases a werewolf, without Wolfsbane, under the full moon near sunset. So reckless that he ventures into the Forbidden Forest to find lost children. So reckless that he roams the hallways in the middle of the night, in his nightgown, chasing the sound of a scream. So reckless that, as a Death Eater, he risks everything to warn the leader of the opposite side about Voldemort's plans to kill the Potters—and is willing to give anything to save them. He's so ungrudging that he carefully carries an unconscious Sirius Black. So ungrudging that when Black is captured, he checks on him immediately and alerts the Order of the Phoenix. So ungrudging that he risks his cover to save Lupin.
And I think these moments say so much about his humanity—things the books never fully explain.

“But Snape wasn’t good; he didn’t care about people, he only switched sides because Voldemort went after Lily.”
Congratulations, kids—you’ve independently arrived at the conclusion of how 90% of human beings function. Yes, Severus only reconsidered things because something affected him personally, just like the vast majority of humans. Or are you constantly reevaluating how many people die each day so you can have a smartphone, Zara clothes, or food in the supermarket?
Honestly, sometimes it feels less like you’re making a critique and more like you’re competing in a contest of obvious statements.

Snape has both mommy and daddy issues. He would never admit it, but that man definitely would have a praise kink.
I completely agree, he turns bright red whenever someone says anything non-insulting to him.
