karendavidofficial #fbf January 31st will always be a meaningful day for me. 6 years ago today, we began prepping for filming the pilot for galavantabc and 4 years ago today, our season 2 finale aired. My life and my journey changed the day Dan Fogelman, Susan Vash, our Galavant creative team and ABC cast me in the role of Princess Isabella Maria Lucia Elizabetta of Valencia. (Still a mouthful, but a name that will forever be etched in my heart) I smile and laugh so much just thinking of all the incredible memories we created together as a tv family, and family we all are - to this day and beyond. I’ve made friends for life who are my family. 

The gratitude in my heart is endless. To all our friends and families who tuned in every Sunday, despite the temptations of the Super Bowl, or the Globes or some other major event which aired in the same Sunday time slot, thank you again and again! To those who binge watch to this day on a regular basis on Netflix, I love you more and more! 😉 

Above all else, I’m so grateful this show happened. I’m so happy my stateside chapter started off on home turf 🇬🇧 with some armour, a sword and a horse, some dreamlike Disney songs by alanmenken and glennslaterlyrics along with playing a strong, empowered, kick butt, big hearted, not so perfect, relatable character, that I can only hope inspired the big girls and boys and little girls and boys watching the show, to love themselves more and to fight for their dreams and happiness... Happy Anniversary, dearest, beloved, #Galavanters 🎉 🎉 🎉 Maybe one day, we’ll get to do it all again. Until then, you can binge watch 2 magical seasons on a regular basis on netflix netflixca (if you haven’t already). 😉 With all my heart 💘, Isabella Galavant xoxo

Anyway! *rubs hands together* TIME TO RAID THE PANTHEON! Do you know how hard it is to only choose 10?!?!? In no particular order:

Princess Allura of Altea (Voltron: Legendary Defender)

Y’all knew this one was coming. It’s easy to say things like “I love her strength and her beauty” and that’s all true, but I love that we see her hide her emotions. She doesn’t want to be weak in front of the paladins, she doesn’t want to cry where others can see, and I can identify with that. (I still identify with Pidge far more though.)

Lina Inverse (The Slayers)

Long time friends of mine knew this one was coming, too. I used to carry around a little card that said WWLD? (What Would Lina Do?) Except I realized it wasn’t very useful since typically what she’d do is blow things up.

Ellen Ripley (Alien series)

I love how we go from “Ripley wasn’t explicitly written to be female” in Alien to “Ripley was a single mom just wanting to get back to her child” in Aliens. I love how we get to see and know that Ripley is utterly terrified of the shit going on around her, but the only way out is to go straight through it, and she DOES IT. And Sigourney Weaver is a goddess all on her own.

Claire Temple (Marvel Cinematic Universe)

Pictured here: Claire’s general attitude about shit going on in the Netflix MCU-verse. She’s a nurse and she just wants to help people. And somehow she keeps getting mixed up with these super-powered heroes who drag her in way over her head because as much as she thinks all of this is crazy, she also just wants to make sure everyone comes through alive. She’s the voice of reason and sanity, and she is amazingly resourceful. The Defenders would all be dead if it weren’t for Claire, I’m telling you. MCU MVP

Lt. Starck (Event Horizon)

Nobody has gifs of Lt. Starck from Event Horizon (is there even an Event Horizon fandom? THERE SHOULD BE, DAMMIT), but here she is. One of the few people on this ship who didn’t have something for the Event Horizon to prey upon. The best it could do was try to drown her in blood. (’Course she doesn’t exactly come through the movie unscathed, but...) She’s a professional officer, but she’s not above some jokes and teasing when she’s not on the clock. I wish we’d gotten to know more about her, but everything we do know is pretty awesome.

General Leia Organa (Star Wars)

My princess, my general, and everyone’s Space Mom. If I need to explain why she’s here to you, then I should first congratulate you on waking up from that long coma you’ve been in! I have some disturbing news about the presidency though.

Sylvanas Windrunner (World of Warcraft)

Sylvanas is a woman so hell-bent on revenge that even death and enslavement couldn’t stand in her way. First Ranger-General of Silvermoon, then Banshee Queen of Undercity, and now, apparently, Warchief of the Horde. (As much as I love Sylvanas, I’m still not sure how I feel about her being Warchief, but maybe that’s just ‘cause I really miss the days when Thrall was in charge. Also Vol’Jin didn’t get a fair shake, but I was out of WoW by the time he took over.)

GO WATCH “GALAVANT.” Then come back and tell me how much you love Isabella, a feminist totally in favor of the deconstruction of the princess myth who falls in love with the hero but doesn’t rely on him to save her, and, in fact, is directly responsible for the hero being a hero again. She leads an army into battle despite them having basically no weapons and inspires them to fight despite that. Also, lovely singing voice. Has trouble rhyming sometimes though. Just remember: she trained in monologues, not poetry.

Petra Mede (Eurovision Song Contest)

Eurovision is a fandom, right? Petra speaks four languages, can dance and sing, and she’s hilarious. I want to be Petra Mede when I grow up.

Captain Amelia (Treasure Planet)

I love her. I love her insistent use of large vocabulary. I love her outfit. I love her negative tolerance level for bullshit. And I love that she winds up with a love interest despite being the tough-as-nails, no-nonsense sort of woman. I also love all the feline attributes she displays; she’s an amazing character, and this entire movie didn’t get near enough love, let alone the Captain of the RLS Legacy (I see what you did there, Disney).
