The infant’s cry wakes the two men from their deep slumber.

“I’ll go check on her,” Tommy kisses Buck on the temple, “I’ll come get you if we need anything, okay?” He leaves their warm, comfortable bed to tend to their baby daughter.

Buck wants to jump out and protest, it’s her daughter too, but Tommy’s the one on paternity leave now, while he himself has a shift next morning. Light duty, all thanks to Bobby. Tommy, on the other hand, has a job that doesn’t allow a single lapse of judgment, so he agrees to take time off first until both new parents settle into a routine, then Buck can take over as the primary caregiver. It’s been working fine for them so far.

Except tonight.

Buck might as well get up, since his daughter refuses to stop crying.

“Hey, everything alright?” Buck asks, still half asleep.

“Um, I don’t know. Her diaper wasn’t wet, I changed it anyway, but she’s still crying,” Tommy gently rocks her in his arms, “maybe she’s hungry? Can you go get her formula?”

“We’ve just fed her…” Buck looks at the clock on the nightstand, “2 hours ago. Is she hungry already? Never mind, I’ll go make some real quick.”

Buck stares at the digital water heater with a blank expression. It’s an extremely premium product in both price and functionality. “Here you go,” Buck hands Tommy the warm bottle. Relief washes over him when the infant latches onto the bottle’s rubber tip, but it soon fades away when she turns away and continues crying after a few gulps.

“Shhhhh, shhh, it’s okay,” Tommy coos at the baby, then shoves the bottle back into Buck’s hand.

“Do you think she’s sick?” Buck frowns. He can’t bare the thought of his precious child feeling sick without the ability to express it with words.

Tommy puts his lips on the infant’s forehead, “no, I don’t think so, she doesn’t feel hot.”

Buck relaxes.

“But get the infrared thermometer anyway, just in case,” Tommy demands, their daughter still wailing in his arms.

Buck nods and leaves on his way to find that thermometer, gifted by his sister. ‘You’ll appreciate modern science once you realize you don’t have to lube up a glass thermometer and hold down your child to take temperature anymore,’ Maddie said.

Their home is a mess, ever since they adopted their baby girl. Everyone around them with child-raising experience tells them it’s completely normal. But it’s time like this, when Buck can’t find the exact thing he knows is around, that he wants to disregard all of their advice.

“Ah! Found it!” Buck whispers to himself triumphantly, waving the infrared thermometer in the air a little.

It’s only now that Buck picks up the absolute silence.

“Ahhh, ah, ouch.”

Then silence again.

Buck rushes back into the bedroom.

He sees Tommy sitting up in bed, their daughter fiercely sucking on his dry nipple.

“Shhhhhhhh,” Tommy shushes Buck, “don’t ask me why, but it works, so don’t you dare startle her.”

“Okay, but I’m taking her temperature anyway,” Buck whispers back and points the thermometer at the infant’s forehead. “All good. She’s a bit cold if anything.”

Putting the appliance aside, Buck joins Tommy in bed again.

“Does it hurt?”

“A bit. At least she’s not crying anymore. Go back to sleep, Evan, you need it.”

“Sure,” Buck gives Tommy a chaste kiss on the lip before climbing back into his blanket. “Hey, look, she’s finally asleep. I guess she just wanted the warmth and security of her father…”

Tommy smiles, carrying his daughter back to her crib.

“…her father’s voluptuous chest,” Buck laughs.

Tommy returns from dropping off the baby, “it’s gonna be you in a month.”

“Yeah, yeah, I’m looking forward to it,” Buck says before going back to sleep, “I can’t wait for her to grow up to be as strong and smart as you.”

𝜗𝜚 skincare a comprehensive guide to skincare

here's to something i'm proud of this year !! from being made fun of for my acne to getting daily compliments on my glowing skin—it's been a long journey. before (november 2023):

after (december 2024):

what i was struggling with: dry skin, forehead acne, clogged and enlarged pores, closed comedones, inflammation/redness, acne scarring, sebum

going out of my comfort zone because i just wanted to share this and show you that yes, it does work! even i'm surprised by the side by side comparison. keep in mind that this is just how I targeted my own skin concerns. everybody is different the things that work for me might not work for you! but hopefully this will give you a place to start <3

oil cleanser

i've actually tried two of these:

beauty of joseon ginseng cleanser

ma:nyo pure cleansing oil (got this cheaper from costco)

dispense a good amount of oil onto your palm and rub it into your face for about 1 min. then, emulsify by adding water to your face (it should turn white) and rub again for about 1 min. wipe it all off when you're done!

helps get rid of: clogged pores, sebum, dead skin

this step made the biggest difference for me. when my acne was really bad, i'd pile on heavy makeup to try and cover it. but, instead of deeply cleansing my face, i'd just scrub it off with a towel and sparingly use micellar water here and there! oil cleansers really get into your skin  water-based cleanser

i use this in the morning before i do my makeup! (and use the oil cleanser at night)

beauty of joseon green plum refreshing cleanser

squeeze a dime-sized amount onto your palm. add just a bit of water to it and scrub it in your palm until it foams up. apply that foam to your face and cleanse for about 1 min, then wash it off.

helps get rid of: oil, sweat, dirt, other particles

i actually got this recommended to me as someone with really sensitive skin! i used to use it right after the oil cleanser to double-cleanse, but as my skin has greatly improved, now i just use this one in the morning. toner

isntree ultra-low molecular hyaluronic acid toner

pat it onto your face with clean, dry hands! important: let it dry before applying your next product.

helps attract moisture, balances pH, super soothing

my favorite toner, especially for my dry skin girlies!

serum

skin1004 centella ampoule

squeeze some onto your face as needed!

honestly my holy grail. centella is super soothing and this ampoule leaves my face feeling super smooth. it's super good with healing, this is perfect for whenever i have an active pimple and need to calm it down or need my makeup to go over something better! one of my favs <3

spot treatment

lion pair acne cream

use it on active pimples or acne scars!

literally a lifesaver. put this baby on and say goodbye to that blemish. moisturizer

nature republic mild & moisture aloe vera gel

okay. admittedly i stopped using it over the summer since my other products are already very moisture-heavy, but i went into winter a few weeks ago wondering why my skin felt so flaky and this has saved my life. super healing and hydrating and a wonderful last step to my routine that kind of seals everything together! bonus

Doting nags that she's undeserving, being she never really experienced it prior, but she only has herself to blame. My snarly chihuahua girl snapped at any hand that offered it before him.

→ Once settled in Emmrich's swanky Nevarran town home, she regularly plays hostess to get the gang together again. My Italian loves to feed people, and that's something I've given her. That girl has perfected 'Artcuterie'. Lots of poured wine and scream-laughing. She's happiest when she's a tiny blonde blur around the table pouring re-fills, fixing someone seconds, etc. She even loves that hazy, post-social high when it's just Neve and Lucanis lingering behind. Taking her time while cleaning up at the end of the night, in a comfortable, reflective lull of Emmrich's cigar smoke, and rumbles of laughter.

Her since refined palate does not absolve her weakness for deliberately unhealthy, cheap, greasy-spoon slop. When she gets pregnant all she wants is whatever the Thedas equivalent of disco fries is. She absolutely does not share in Emmrich's veganism.

ENVY: motivation. competitive spirit. strategic planning. observational skills. bitter rivalry. contest. envious gossip. resentment-filled argument. social media jealousy. furrowed brows. clenched jaws. side-eye looks. pursed lips. tense posture. whispering behind backs. crossed arms. gossip magazines. keeping up with the joneses. the grass is always greener. feeling inadequate.

→ She can be a vicious little thing, with a mean jealous streak. Though she likes to pretend it's not the case, she absolutely has something to prove. Largely to do with her parental abandonment, her ultimate dismissal from the Watch, etc. etc. Emmrich has never given her cause to doubt herself, though one of these days I'll get around to a oneshot just to explore what an insufferable bitch she'd be; catching him with an old flame in an horrifically unfortunate misunderstanding. No part of me think's that any part of her would believe him capable of such behavior, but crazed and jealous? Could be fun idk !

GREED: resourcefulness. entrepreneurial spirit. negotiation. materialistic. aggressive investment. lavish spending spree. resource-hoarding. get-rich-quick schemes. auction-bidding war. property acquisition. piles of money. overflowing wallets. luxury items. locked safes. penny-pinching. rare collectibles. selfishness. unwillingness to share.

→ She likes luxury and shiny things, what can I say. She never experienced wealth before Emmrich, and he's as willing to indulge The Princess as much as she's willing to milk him for it. Not that it's entirely selfishly driven - she needs the premium self-care products, pretty jewels and clothing to keep herself dolled up and pretty for daddy, obviously

SLOTH: calmness. stress management. nonchalance. relaxation techniques. lethargic. apathetic. inactive. lazy weekend. binge-watching marathon. neglected chores. skipped workout. long nap. lounging on the couch. missed deadlines. unkempt appearance. messy hair. pajamas. blankets. slippers. procrastination station. self-care routines.

→ She's for sure not a napper, she couldn't shut her brain off midday and then function afterwards. She's either on and non-stop, manic energy, or she's shut off for the weekend. There's no middle ground. She's either productive or she's not. She's super woman, or she's a cave troll. Either sleek and done up to the nines, or a bum.

→ She knows her good looks and her confidence are intoxicating. She knows her adeptness with the Fade is a thing to envy, but this girl is a MESS. She's on her game until she's absolutely not.

WRATH: assertiveness. decisiveness. strength. intensity. boundary setting. courage. indignant. heated arguments. road rage incident. physical altercation. angry outburst. clenched fists. glaring eyes. tense muscles. raised voices. reddened faces. aggressive gestures. stormy demeanour. intense frowns. destructive actions. broken objects. punching bag. out for blood. fists. simmering anger.

→ She knows what she wants, and how she wants it - and she wants it when she wants it. Patience is not one of her virtues. When you're small, weakness can be assumed. Often, short/un-assuming statures go hand in hand with feistiness, and certainly in her troubled youth she made up for her size with her mouth (see: scar on her nose). As she aged and got a better handle on her magic she sort of simmered down, but Emmrich was being polite when he mentioned the rumors he had heard of a certain young Watcher sneaking out to be a little menace. I took his brat-taming so seriously but he's only sometimes successful with this one

She's got a hot-head and a short fuse. She explodes. Her tongue is venom, her glare is lethal and her edge cuts even herself. But when she's in the wrong, she goes above and beyond to make up for it. She's exhausting.
