Not what I was expecting
Tumblr media
My old house still has its original cast iron radiators. Which are wonderfully efficient when it comes to heating the house – when you take care of them.
Last September, I was getting the radiators ready for winter. It’s a once-a-year job that takes less than a minute. But it requires a special tool, called a radiator key. And I couldn’t find mine anywhere.
After a few days of fruitless looking, I gave up, went online, and bought one. Only it was backordered. They said it wouldn’t be available until sometime in late October.
So, I was really surprised when it was delivered 3 days later.
That didn’t match up with what I was expecting. But it was exactly what I needed. And I was happy to have it.
Today’s Gospel is all about expectations. And how easy it is for you and me to become lost in our expectations. To become fixed in our expectations.
This is what Jesus is hearing from his critics. They have become set in their preconceived notions about how things have to work. They know how it has to happen. That’s the only way that it can happen. End of discussion.
And doing that is having the same effect on them that it has on you and me 2,000 years later when we do it.
When you and I become fixed in our expectations, we close ourselves off to other possibilities. Making us miss what God is doing in our lives.
Keeping us from the joy that comes from receiving God’s grace.
Because it doesn’t match up to what we were expecting.
Even though it’s exactly what we need.

24-236 Inventiveness
Inventiveness “the ability to form mental images that either are not physically present or have never been conceived or created by others” Inventiveness is what happens when we take the time to daydream (or night dream), letting images and thoughts drift in and out of consciousness. When we set an intention to manifest a solution to a situation and then set out to daydream—without judging or…

You know, I've seen these discussions about people who have made themselves disabled (though not necessarily on purpose), and it's something I resonate with, and think is so nuanced that it's a discussion worth having in-depth
See, I feel like sometimes people think of "making yourself disabled" as a completely able-bodied person who - through their decisions, either accidental or wreckless - will just... make themselves disabled, and I actually think that's less common. I know for myself, my changing disabilities have been spurred on because I was already disabled. I use myself as an example of a broader point - that is, I think often the ways people think of this topic are somewhat narrow.
There's a special kind of guilt you feel (at least, in my experience) wherein you know your suffering has resulted from your decisions, yet simultaneously knowing that you weren't given a proper chance to start off on a fair playing field. And yet no matter what you feel about this, the pain still hurts just as badly. It still hurts even if you don't blame yourself at all

Sorry this might be insensitive to say but I think the amount of people on that public sex poll who are responding with some variation of "I would be upset because I didn't consent to it" is kind of hilarious. Literally doing this meme
Tumblr media
**Like I understand the feeling they're trying to convey it's just funny they picked that specific terminology and didn't elaborate
***However also this is me when my Sims start having sex in the park bathroom instead of idk , pissing like I told them to because they had a full bladder warning. Piss yourself in the park and get embarrassed about it . I don't give a shit

Pairing sam + armand next to each other at the trial has gotta be one of those choices man. Sam - literal riff on Samuel Beckett, writer of Waiting for Godot. Godot, who some say is this stand in for the absence of god, and hope, that never comes.
Godot who might honestly be Armand - this all powerful being - because he never does come to provide hope and salvation that he very well could.
There is also the read of WFG that suggests the characters are waiting for death - Armand places himself into the role which is an absence of a role casting Sam to be the stand in for the role which is the role of death. Precluding him from having any real part in the deaths. 'He could not have prevented it' because if he did - in this staged lack of performance - he'd be sending death to them and himself.

Dear God how I fucking hate when people dismiss s character's traits because "that's just a facade! you as the reader have to see underneath it!!" like yeah no fucking shit Sherlock, a well written character has more than one (1) defining trait but that doesn't mean their most prominent one or the one most recognized by fandom ISN'T there
yes this is about people thinking dick grayson isn't actually a ray of sunshine, that it's just a mask. he's much more than the happy one, of fucking course, all batfam members (when written well) are, but that doesn't mean that being happy and bright is not a crucial part of his personality. he brings light to people's lives, he's a beacon of hope, that's what Robin was born for, as a light to Batman's darkness. That's what Nightwing is. He can be serious, sure. He's smart, an amazing strategist, incredibly good at fighting, he can be manipulative and morally gray and sometimes an objectively bad person. But he's ALSO funny and quippy and bright and sunshine. BECAUSE HE'S WELL WRITTEN.
Like Jesus stop making him so sad and wrong all the time just because you want so bad to go against "fanon". It's not fanon if it's literally his core trait. It's not fanon if it's what the character was BORN AS. God.
#I'm not sure if this even makes sense#it's almost 6am I haven't slept and I just saw someone say he's a manipulative bitch and to stop writing him as a ray of sunshine#and now I'm mad#because this parson had this lukewarm takes with most of the batkids#like yeah I get a lot of damian's traits and back story are deeply rooted in racism#but like he did try to kill tim. and he killed a bunch of people when he first got to Gotham. that's a thing that happened.#and no matter how racist the reason behind that plot line might have been#it's something that happened and choosing to believe it didn't happen because it doesn't fit your preconceived ideas of how#a character should or should not be is just plain stupid#you can explore the character and change their personality and play with them in fanfic sure that's what we all do#but don't pretend that canon doesn't exist. you can choose to utilize it or not but acknowledge it even if it's just to spit in it's face#damian's not tame he's not more chill than his brothers he's not misunderstood#he's a child who had a horribly traumatic childhood and reacts with violence because that's all he knows#Jason's angry and he has every right to be and to say he isn't is to erase an incredibly important part of his character#you don't get to tell a victim how to be a good victim. Jason's a victim.#dc#batman#rambles#batfam#batfamily#dc universe#dc comics#batman and robin#dick grayson#Jason Todd#Damian Wayne#nightwing#red hood#oh look I made a post about dc that is NOT about Tim#wild huh

i’m dead serious when i say, i don’t understand people that want steve to apologise to jonathan. he’s already done it. jonathan can choose not to forgive him, but that doesn’t mean steve should have to beg on his knees for shit he did two years ago, fixed, and already apologised and said he was wrong for.
what more do we need?

I used to work with Jon, a man on the autism spectrum. He could be hard to communicate with.
Some of what he said seemed random. Unrelated to…much of anything. But there were also flashes of brilliance. Insights and ideas that were amazingly helpful for our work together.
Because what I did understand of what he was saying was so good, I wanted more of it. So, I made it my business to learn to speak Jon.
At first, it was a slog. There’s no app for learning to speak Jon. It took a lot of listening. It was maybe a year or more before I started to get it.
The random stories? They were his way of thinking through ideas he didn’t have words for. By making analogies, by drawing comparisons. They were Jon’s parables.
As I learned to speak Jon, it became clear that so much of what seemed scattershot and unrelated was actually dead on.
To connect with Jon, I had to learn to speak Jon. Because the only way to really communicate with him was on his terms.
Truth be told, it’s the only way we can truly communicate with anyone. On their terms.
No matter who it is, until we learn to speak them, most of what they say won’t mean much. There may be flashes of brilliance. But most of it will be pretty random.
And if we try to impose our expectations on them for how we want them to think and communicate?
We won’t get much of anything out of it. We’ll be confused and frustrated. Maybe even angry at them. For not following our preconceived ideas.
It’s especially true for how we understand God.
The burden of our expectations is why so many people are confused and frustrated by God. We get angry at God for not following our preconceived ideas.
In His love, God is drawing each one of us to Himself. God is calling out to you, heart to heart.
If you’re not feeling that. If you’re not hearing God’s call to you.
Then it’s time to drop the preconceived ideas. And just listen.
It’s time to learn to speak God.

What if I was insane again about the first thing Alpha Grim Sonic hearing when Nine creates him is his purpose—that he is Nine's friend?
Friendship as a concept in Prime is handled interestingly among its main characters. As Sonic (who thinks he knows a lot about friendship) comes to deepen his understanding of what it means to have a home/be home, I think it's safe to say his definition of friendship develops along with it. Compare this to Nine, who's learned everything he knows about "friendship" and personal relationships in general through his relationship with Sonic (at least, after his childhood of bullying).
So of course I think about Nine, who never wants to be hurt again, yet can no longer bear feeling alone (not after feeling that sense of companionship and belonging with someone else), which results in him creating a warped version of friendship for himself (one where he is surrounded by people, but people who only do whatever he wants, who have no opinions and thoughts of their own, who can't backstab him). And so I think about Alpha Grim Sonic, who is the very first robot Nine creates under this idea of frienship and companionship.
Nine is his master, and Alpha Grim Sonic is his protector, his bodyguard, his weapon
But he's also his friend.
Alpha Grim Sonic doesn’t talk back (can't even if he wanted to), but his purpose has always been clear to him: be Nine's friend. That's what he was created to be.
So I imagine Alpha Grim Sonic performing his purpose to the T at first under Nine's framework. He's Nine's friend, so he does whatever Nine commands, he never talks back or challenges authority, he protects Nine at all cost. And then, perhaps unbeknownst to Nine, he begins to shift ever so gradually. Sure, he's never insubordinate, he never offers up opinions, he still can't speak, but the lines of devotion begin to blur.
Is it in his code? Is out of a real sense of feeling?
Alpha Grim Sonic does not understand friendship, no matter whether it believes it does or not. But it's ironic to me if, despite being created under Nine's warped idea of it, the robot slowly grows their own soul, witnesses other displays of frienship and care, and drifts outside the bounds of that idea (a carefully crafted painting begins to leak out of its frame, expanding the masterpiece). They protect Nine, they do only what he commands, and yet they hate to see Nine in pain, they wish to bring Nine comfort (and so it feels good to him when Nine commands him to do such things that might bring his master comfort).
Does this make any sense? To believe that friendship means to hold one person on a pedestal, to protect them, to only listen to them, to never talk back, to never have opinions, and yet, despite believing what your creator tells you of friendship with them (your very purpose in this existence), to slowly fall further into those feelings that true care and love for another person brings, to wish to comfort someone the way one might describe a true friend would, despite not realizing any of this.
#sonic prime#alpha grim sonic#miles nine prower#nine the fox#crystalbond#crystalbondshipping#sonic the hedgehog#sonine if you squint#i just be ramblin#Why did I tag the ship tag?#Well if you've seen my earlier posts this introspection and journey of Alpha Grim Sonic's naturally leads him to struggle with what it mean#to feel emotion and be alive and to care for other people#Beyond grappling with whether any of this is even possible#they don't understand what it means to have friends or to love aside from what has been told to them#I don't think Alpha Grim will ever fully sus out the exact nature of his feelings for Nine‚ which would naturally grow over time in my eyes#But whether friendship or romance or in between or something else or all of it#The love Alpha Grim has is meant to become real#On the surface it's hard to see that he's changed#partially because he can't speak but partially because of people's preconceived notions of what robots are capable of#but below the surface‚ that original concept of devotion to one's master ingrained into their code and that idea of friendship etched into#its memory banks#these have grown outside the bounds of strict parameters#the robot is learning and yet growing naturally#And so devotion is both code and out of a genuine care for his very first friend‚ his master#he wants Nine to be happy because he feels this deep inside (the idea of Nine being happy makes them feel good)#He still would never dream of going against Nine's wishes#Nine created a robot to serve him#And the robot grows not only to serve‚ but to love#He takes his original purpose—being Nine's friend—to his logical conclusion despite being created under a warped idea of frienship#au ramblings

"....When did we get to the point where natural hair is no longer associated with ...Black People? Black Women?"
Non blacks pls dni.
Have to amplify this woman's valid and articulate short on the relevance of this topic bc, whew smh, I have discussed the same thing here — and am both just as disturbed (and honestly? a little let down?) by Black Women letting go the equity we had in natural hair. Esp just to pick harmful maintenance/norms right back up. I do understand that we, as a race of women all by ourselves, have sooooooo many odds stacked against us regarding what we do with our hair and how we take care of it, but I cannot for the life of me understand what the purpose or benefit is supposed to be in returning to things that actually harm us disproportionately.
For good measure, she also spoke more directly and at length about this issue, it's toxically influential spaces and platforms — as well as the colorism, texturism and misogynoir in general at it's core. So glad I'm not the only Black Woman being transparent about how backwards the nhc/nhm is going.
