How to Overcome Innovation FOMO & Use AI/GenAI to Solve Specific Business Problems
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/how-to-overcome-innovation-fomo-use-ai-genai-to-solve-specific-business-problems/
How to Overcome Innovation FOMO & Use AI/GenAI to Solve Specific Business Problems
We are getting into the busy season for corporate leadership when managers from all functions are meeting to evaluate performances and plan for what is next. After a year of rising costs, persistent supply chain issues, and ongoing efforts to meet sustainability targets, there are plenty of challenges. But one topic still seems to be front and center on everyone’s mind—artificial intelligence (AI)/generative AI (GenAI).
It is the age of innovation FOMO, and leaders are overwhelmingly being asked to incorporate some AI/GenAI functionality into their operations so their companies are not left behind. But amid all the excitement, it is important to remember that innovation is a process, not a solution. To create lasting impact, organizations must ensure any new capabilities are matched to specific needs, evaluated for risk, and tied to measurable business outcomes.
Here are three common questions/challenges from corporate leadership teams and how AI/Gen AI can help, along with examples from several industries where this innovation is already making a difference:
It feels like there is new technology being introduced every day, and our budget is already stretched thin. How can we determine where our investment in AI/GenAI innovation will yield the most ROI?
Paradoxically, when everyone starts to speed up, it is time for your leadership team to slow down and focus on the fundamentals. First, make sure everyone is aligned with how you are thinking about AI/GenAI. AI has been around for a while now, and at a high level, it is best to think about it as a tool to analyze data, gather insights, and work smarter. GenAI is more nascent and involves how to use all those insights to autonomously generate actual content and recommendations. Every company can benefit from incorporating AI/GenAI capabilities, but it helps to democratize the transition so workers feel valued.
Companies looking to build an enterprise-wide AI ecosystem can take inspiration from the “Kaizen” method pioneered by Toyota. This approach involves continuous improvement, where teams across all levels of an organization are encouraged to make small, incremental changes to eliminate waste and optimize processes. Not only does this help identify where AI/GenAI might have the most impact, it starts to foster a “test-and-learn” mindset that will permeate through the culture of an organization and result in happier, more productive employees.
Focus On: Transportation Industry
 In transportation, AI/GenAI is helping companies improve everything from demand forecasting and inventory management to predictive maintenance and route optimization. Delta Air Lines uses GenAI to analyze customer data and provide personalized travel experiences, UPS uses its AI-powered ORION system to adjust delivery routes as traffic conditions change, and the New York City MTA deploys AI to cut down on fare evasion.
As we scale, we’re finding that communication gaps are developing between the C-Suite and functional leadership, especially IT. How can we use AI/GenAI to create more effective internal and external messages without losing our authenticity?
While GenAI can produce remarkably realistic messages, it is important to maintain certain standards to safeguard brand reputation. In other words, style counts, and people want to communicate in a way that feels genuine. According to a recent survey from PwC, establishing that trust is increasingly critical among the C-Suite, consumers, and employees, and 93% of business executives agree that building and maintaining trust improves the bottom line. The same is true within an organization, and it is common for workers to be cautious about new management directives that ring false, or distrustful of new technology that is not put in the proper context.
Miscommunication wastes time and money, slowing down innovation and operational efficiency. GenAI can proactively address this by analyzing huge datasets of previous interactions (with customers and employees) to model potential reactions, offer real-time insights, and serve as a bridge between two “languages” (i.e. what the business wants to say, and how it is received by customers/employees). When executives have timely, AI-driven insights into performance, they can better align operational decisions with strategic goals. And when workers are made a part of the process through continuing education and upskilling initiatives, AI/GenAI can be viewed as an asset instead of a threat.
Focus On: Retail Industry
Post-pandemic consumer behavior has shifted dramatically, so it is critical that retail companies use AI to analyze customer data and deliver highly personalized service, product recommendations, and marketing campaigns. At scale, AI can also be used to help predict future behavior, enabling targeted sales efforts and improved customer acquisition. The future in this space is exciting, and poised to totally revolutionize how we shop. For example, Amazon continues to refine its AI-empowered “Just Walk Out” technology that analyzes data from cameras and in-store sensors to power checkout-free stores worldwide.
In our industry, we deal with large amounts of sensitive customer information and we are concerned about how introducing new technology might expose our data to increased vulnerabilities. What are some benefits to using AI/GenAI in these industries, and how can we mitigate risk?
Like medicine, the golden rule in AI/GenAI transformation is, “First, do no harm.” Certain industries like healthcare and financial services have had slower widespread AI adoption due to their complex, highly-regulated environments, but there have been huge strides made in specific functions. The most visible evidence is in customer service, where AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants can provide 24/7 support and help answer common logistical questions. For example, since its launch in 2018, Bank of America’s AI-powered chatbot “Erica” has responded to 800 million inquiries from over 42 million clients and provided personalized insights/guidance over 1.2 billion times.
Ironically, despite lingering concerns over security in sensitive industries, AI/GenAI has enjoyed a net positive impact in the field of fraud detection. Fraud is an endemic problem in finance that is only getting worse, and experts predict fraudulent banking will cost the industry $48 billion by 2029. AI algorithms can scour huge datasets to identify anomalies that may indicate fraudulent activity and security teams can establish thresholds for suspicious activity, triggering interventions only when these thresholds are exceeded. GenAI can also help automate certain routine tasks (data entry, reconciliation, etc.) and free up time for teams to make more nuanced decisions (loan approvals, defaults, etc.) that benefit from deeper human analysis.
Focus On: Banking Industry
In 2021, PNC launched PINACLE, a cash-management application that uses AI and machine learning (ML) to train from a company’s historical data. Once the module is trained, it can be updated daily and produce a rolling forecast to help predict future cash flow, reduce version control issues, and gain better insight into current and future cash positions for various scenarios. AI is also helping to empower investors, especially those focused on sustainability. Morgan Stanley advises that AI’s analytical capabilities can help “identify companies with strong ESG performance, mitigate risks, and shape portfolios that better align with sustainability objectives.”
Setting the Tone for 2025
Companies have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to optimize their operations with AI/GenAI, but that sort of transformation requires discipline. Headed into next year, leadership needs to make clear that: (1) change is a team sport; (2) the ROI of any new technology must be tied to specific business outcomes; and (3) speed without direction creates chaos. By tuning out the hype and staying focused on meaningful impact, organizations will be set up for lasting success in this exciting new era of innovation.

OBX Season 5: Payback for Maybank - masterlist
Tumblr media
Actor! Au Pairing: Actress! Reader x Drew Starkey Your Character: Piper Monroe, a jack of all trades whose hustle was making a living as an arms dealer in Morocco. Until a group of foreigners find her with an appetite for revenge, and she decides to tag along.
These can be read in any order, the season summary is just to give you some background on the character and role you played in the final season. In this mini series you'll get to see what really goes on behind the scenes.
Lmk if you want to be added to the tag list <3
Season Summary: This season, the Pogues are back, and their hunt for Chandler Groff leads them through the scorching sands of Morocco—and straight into your path, a mischievous arms dealer with secrets as deep as your scars. Due to your betrayal, the Pogues are ambushed and barely survive, saved only by your last-minute change of heart. Even after your redemption and display of loyalty, Rafe still doesn’t trust you, and in your uneasy alliance, he keeps you close, sometimes too close. Tension crackles between you, with moments where his knife is at your throat, yet something unspoken simmers beneath the surface. In the final episode, as danger closes in, confessions boil over when you and Rafe find yourselves held hostage by the leader of the mercenaries, Finch. During your time in bondage, you connect on feelings of solitude and regrets, but you see a spark in him when he mentions a girl back home, a reason to keep fighting. It's a race against time before Finch comes back to kill you. To both your frustration, critical thinking and strategic camaraderie are necessary for your escape. When you find yourselves stuck in a sticky situation amidst your escape, you make the ultimate sacrifice for Rafe, reminding him, “You have someone to live for,” before initiating a human diversion in a suicide mission, giving Rafe the chance to make it back to the Pogues, giving him a second chance.
Below the cut you’ll find my masterlist of life behind the scenes of season 5. Including premiere appearances, bloopers, red carpets, interviews and your budding romance with Drew.
Tumblr media
Lights, Camera, Action! -> It's your first day on set and your nerves are through the roof but the cast makes you feel at home. You practice your lines, but the sparks between you and Drew are unscripted.
Between the Lines -> It's the little things that go on behind the scenes between you and Drew that makes your chemistry electric.
Co-Star Confessions-> The cast takes you along for a trip to take a lie detector test. The jokes are rolling and the tea starts to spill.
Portugal Nights-> The day was tense. Rehearsals were much more heated than the lines intended and the thin rubber band of restraint holding you both apart was bound to snap, and it finally does.
The Wrap Party-> Filming is over and that's a wrap for Outer Banks. Things get emotional but Drew knows how to cheer you up.-coming soon (January 2025!)
Limelight -> Due to your smaller role in the season compared to the main cast, you only had a few solo interviews but not without a few surprises. -coming soon
Wardrobe Malfunction-> You and Drew were scheduled to make it to the red carpet by 8 sharp, but not everything goes as planned.-coming soon
Ship Wars-> The fans are back at it again, and the shipping continues. Debating that Piper and Rafe should've had a romantic arc. You and Drew are given a special interview to address them.-coming soon
The Power Couple-> Drew finally made things official, so you began to have your fun with the fans and let them put the pieces together.-coming soon
The After Party-> The champagne is bubbly in your systems when you and Drew are stumbling into your hotel room after the party.-coming soon
I do not own or take credit for the characters or cast of outer banks. These are all pure fiction and do not accurately reflect the cast.

how to tame your boyfriend
content: bf!gojo, mentioned of sex and sexual stuffs, 16+, fluff, drabble, does not contain any smut, i think gojo's like this can't blame me
Tumblr media
wanna know how to tame your annoying (and horny) boyfriend when your flight is delayed?
that's very easy. just buy him some lego and he would go on instant mute.
"i can't believe you really bought satoru—a full 27 years old ass man—a set of legos?" your friend from the other line, shoko, wheeze and at the same time confused for your action to tame your boyfriend.
sighing hardly while massaging your temple, you answered. "i had to, sho. he won't stop bothering me to have a quickie since our flight was delayed and he was bored."
your flight overseas was delayed for three hours because of some maintenance needed to be checked in the aircraft. now, satoru thought it is a good idea to spend those three hours having a passionate fornication.
of course you immediately dislike the idea even though you are tempted too. you value your morals, ethics, and dignity. unlike your boyfriend, he has no shame and would even proudly tell some random people that you are his by some marks solely created.
"could've played with his phone but seriously, why lego?" shoko was still laughing, now that you opened your camera and showed her your boyfriend who's literally sitting on the airport floor with bricks of lego on his hands.
satoru looked so focused and unbothered, which is an extremely good thing—like he couldn't stop whispers in your ears, whining about how needy he is right now and how badly he wanted you. but now he's occupied, it is the greatest relief for you.
"first, his phone is dead and was tempt to buy a new fucking phone just because he said charging using a power bank takes a lot of time. had to smack the shit outta him and force him to get out of the apple store."
yep, the idiot forgot to charge his phone before you left for the airport. now his phone is dead, the desire to buy a new one instead of waiting for his phone to be charged in a powerbank is crazy. although, money is not a problem for the head of the gojo clan—he got figures that cost more, more, more than your annual salary.
"second, lego made him focused and entertained on building it, not for having scandalous sex with me. i feel like he's being my child than being my boyfriend at this moment." you joked, lowering your voice so your big baby wouldn't hear you.
"you said it yourself that satoru is a full package." shoko rolled her eyes, but she's not wrong tho. satoru is everything, he could easily afford things and could even make some things impossible to possible.
"touché."
shoko let out a laugh. "anyway, gotta go now. got a client in an hour so bye my boo, mwa!" sending also a virtual flying kiss to your platonic friend, you both bid a farewell to with sweet smile on your faces.
as you ended the call, you turned your attention to your boyfriend who's now almost done on his lego that he's been occupying himself for like an hour now.
you made to take some photo of him and post it on your close friends in instagram because this scene of your boyfriend is literally a wholesome and definitely iconic. satoru glanced at you when he heard you giggle at some adorable shots of your boyfriend.
"what are you laughing at?" your boyfriend glanced up to you, confused and warily.
you shook your head, holding your laughter to not raise any suspicion. "nothing babe, just focus on fishing your lego instead of other things."
satoru showed you the figure "oh but i'm finished and we still have like an hour before our flight…" he paused. your mouth hangs wide, questioning about how the hell he builds almost five hundred tiny pieces in just an hour?! truly your boyfriend was really something but this is wild.
"how did you—"
"can we have a quickie now?" satoru smiles sheepishly.
your face turns more sour at his shameless request. although you understand that satoru is a man in need, but his neediness sometimes is really out of place and it took a lot of effort just to stop him from doing so.
"no, satoru. instead, we're going to have a quickie stop at the lego shop to buy you some more entertainment."
your boyfriend pouted at your answer like a hurdled puppy. "but i'm enjoying it more when i'm inside you."
that completely took you off guard.
"... tempting but no."

First off, the Blurr chapter *mwha* chefts kiss. Beautiful, (I am the one doing the Ratchet/Deadlock fanfic thing 😅) and this just gives me even more to play with. Everyone just keeps the creative juices flowing for me.
But yeah, what I was going to say in this ask before reading that master piece was the funny idea of The Office scenes happening sometimes. Like Wheeljack sitting at his desk hands clasped in front of him like, "Do I feel like a third wheel? No, why would you ask that?" And the camera pans out to show Ratchet passed out, face pressed into Deadlock's chassis, who is also out cold and Jazz curled up next to a still recovering Prowl's face cuddling him, "Don't you want to know about my new solar powered sizzle blaster?" It's dead quiet as Wheeljack stares into the camera hopeful till Jazz sneezes off camera.
Wanna draw this, ganna draw this.
Camera moves between every gay couple only to stop on Swindle looking at his bank account with bedroom eyes👍
LMAO. The whole au would look so fucking cursed from the point of literally any side character ahahajmf,gmb. Don’t worry Wheeljack your own potential boyfriend is on his way~ (It’s Percy. I’m designing Percy right now hehe)
Also I’m absolutely. Madly in love with your writing❤️

The Transformative Power of AI Devices: Driving Toward an AI-First Future
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/the-transformative-power-of-ai-devices-driving-toward-an-ai-first-future/
The Transformative Power of AI Devices: Driving Toward an AI-First Future
AI-driven devices have evolved from novelty to necessity. AI assistants that manage tasks, cameras with real-time object detection, wearables tracking health and behavioral metrics, and similar devices are no longer futuristic concepts—they’re reshaping how companies operate across nearly every industry. But with this rapid advancement comes a critical question: How do organizations integrate AI in ways that maximize innovation without sacrificing security?
Businesses are increasingly split in their approach. Some adopt an AI-First mindset, prioritizing rapid adoption and innovation. Others lean toward an AI-Safe approach, in which risk management and security take precedence, sometimes at the expense of agility and progress. The challenge lies in finding the balance between these two stances—a balance that enables businesses to embrace the future responsibly.
The Immediate Impact of AI Devices
AI-powered devices have already revolutionized operations across industries, especially for organizations embracing an AI-First mindset. These companies are experiencing significant gains in efficiency, productivity, and autonomous decision-making capabilities.
For instance, AI-enhanced cameras are used from manufacturing to retail. In manufacturing, they monitor assembly lines and worker activities in real time, detecting issues early to prevent costly downtime. In retail, AI cameras track customer foot traffic and optimize store layouts based on behavior analysis, providing a smarter approach to inventory and product placement. This real-time, data-driven decision-making provides companies a significant competitive edge.
Wearables are transforming industries from healthcare to logistics. Smart devices monitor patient vital signs continuously, providing real-time data that alerts medical professionals to changes before they become critical issues. Wearables allow logistics managers to track employee movements and optimize task assignments for efficiency and safety, making these technologies essential for risk management and operational control.
Multimodal AI assistants like Google Gemini are reshaping project management and workflow automation. These tools don’t just handle repetitive tasks—they actively support decision-making by generating insights, identifying patterns, and forecasting potential outcomes. AI assistants can analyze project timelines, suggest resource reallocation, and notify teams of potential delays or risks. For leaders, this means quicker access to valuable information, allowing them to make faster and better-informed decisions.
In contrast, organizations that over-prioritize risk management under an AI-Safe framework often delay adoption and lose out on these operational advantages, risking stagnation in a market increasingly driven by AI. To stay competitive, businesses must adopt a balanced perspective, understanding that both risks and innovation can be managed contemporaneously.
Enhancing Operations and Managing Risk
AI’s transformative impact is particularly clear in high-stakes sectors like finance. AI-driven trading platforms and real-time analytics enable institutions to gain insights and respond to market changes at speeds previously unattainable. For example, trading algorithms can analyze market data in milliseconds, maximizing profit potential and allowing firms to adapt instantly to micro-shifts and emerging opportunities.
AI’s role in security is equally critical. AI-enabled cameras on trading floors and in banks can monitor physical activity, using behavior analysis to flag unusual actions that may indicate security threats, strengthening protection against both internal and external risks.
However, the push to innovate in sectors like finance and healthcare is tempered by strict regulations and the potentially life-altering consequences of even minor failures. In healthcare, for example, AI-powered diagnostic tools can lead to earlier disease detection and improved patient outcomes. But improper AI deployment can expose institutions to significant privacy risks, such as unauthorized access to sensitive patient data, with possible legal consequences. An effective AI-First approach in these fields demands rigorous security measures, from encrypting patient information to ensuring privacy law compliance.
A robust risk management framework is essential, encompassing secure development practices, regular vulnerability assessments, and continuous data monitoring. Such measures enable organizations to harness AI’s potential responsibly, balancing innovation with the strict standards of highly regulated industries.
Democratizing AI: Making Advanced Technology Accessible
One of the most exciting developments is the potential for AI devices to democratize AI capabilities. From wearables and augmented reality (AR) headsets to smart cameras, smaller businesses now have access to powerful tools previously reserved for industry giants, enabling them to compete more effectively.
For example, engineers and developers using AI-powered smart glasses can collaborate remotely, overlaying data and solving complex problems in real time. These glasses can also connect specialists to technicians in the field, enabling them to guide repairs or adjustments as if they were there in person. The result is faster issue resolution, reduced costs, and more efficient project completion.
However, with accessibility comes responsibility. As AI becomes more democratized, companies must ensure their workforce is well-prepared to use these devices responsibly. Investment in generative AI (GenAI) education is essential, equipping employees to understand both the opportunities and risks AI devices bring to the work environment. By educating employees on topics like data privacy, algorithmic bias, and cybersecurity best practices, companies can build a workforce capable of using AI responsibly and effectively. This democratization of AI knowledge mitigates risk and positions employees to contribute proactively to their organizations’ AI strategies.
The AI-First Future: Balancing Innovation with Responsible Risk Management
As AI becomes increasingly ubiquitous in business operations, the debate between AI-First and AI-Safe approaches will only intensify. The companies that thrive will be those that embrace an AI-First approach without sacrificing safety. A true AI-First strategy doesn’t ignore security—it contextualizes it, applying risk management where it’s most needed without stifling growth.
For organizations in pursuit of a sustainable AI-powered future, the path forward includes several essential steps:
Develop a Comprehensive Risk Management Strategy: Companies must ensure their security protocols are robust and adaptable to the fast-evolving AI landscape, particularly in regulated industries. Regularly updating cybersecurity measures and conducting AI-specific risk assessments will help mitigate potential threats.
Prioritize Workforce Training: GenAI education must be a cornerstone of AI integration. Knowledgeable employees are essential to safely implementing and managing AI systems. Investing in their training equips them to handle AI tools responsibly.
Adopt an Agile Mindset: Organizations must be open to adjusting their strategies as technology and regulatory landscapes evolve. This adaptability will enable businesses to capitalize on opportunities and prepare to address new security challenges as they appear.
Monitor and Evaluate AI Performance: Regularly reviewing AI systems’ performance and effect on operations will provide insights into their effectiveness. Monitoring can reveal areas for improvement and inform strategies for remaining competitive while managing risks.
Ultimately, success in an AI-driven future will depend on how well organizations prepare their teams to leverage these technologies responsibly. The choice is clear: embrace an AI-First mindset that balances transformative power with responsible risk management or risk being left behind by competitors and the market as a whole.

While his ancestors were devoted to preying on virile men, Steve—a young succubus—chose to settle in Hawkins for a chance at a normal life.
Given his innate charm, he had become the top dog on his first day at school and reigned his subjects with an iron fist. That meant; no bullies nonsense, no ostracized students, and no making fun of less-privileged people.
Steve wasn’t a saint, mind you, but he always did what he deemed right, and reducing the high-school teenage toxicity helped assuage his headaches.
On the other hand, to cover up his tracks with some of the men (he had selected carefully) in the town, he played up the whole rich spoiled brat who had absent parents and was a womanizer part.
And for a long time, it worked.
It worked so well that Steve had become careless and slipped up.
After putting Nancy into a vivid dream of them having sex, he scented something foul and immediately knew there was a trespasser on his property.
That was how he had gotten to the pool in time to save Barb from a monster that resembled Snatcher.
Unfortunately, Jonathan Byers had caught him beating it on the camera and came begging for his help the following day.
Since Steve’s bleeding heart couldn’t take it, he ended up rescuing Will from the hellhole full of Snatcher-like creatures and flower-faced carnivores.
Naively, he had thought it was the end of it. But somehow, the Byers decided he was a part of them after he brought their youngest back from the underworld and always invited him over for dinner.
(Steve had shyly admitted to Joyce that it was kind of nice to have home-cooked meals with so many people for once. He had become the Byers’ permanent guest ever since then.)
Thanks to Will, he got to know The Party, learned about secret government labs and experimented children, and was dragged kicking and screaming into the Upside Down fiasco by the goddamm maternal instinct he had for those gremlins.
(He guessed the list also included Nancy, Barb, Jonathan, Joyce Byers, and even Jim Hopper.)
Fast forward to S4 where everything derailed and went south so rapidly that Steve didn’t have time to respite. It resulted in his power being drained after having healed most of the bat’s bites and injuries he sustained.
Since they were on the run, his options were sort of limited, and although it would risk raising more suspicion on himself, Steve didn’t think Eddie would have the energy to mull over it too long once he was done.
Meanwhile, Eddie was perplexed and aghast when Steve Harrington pulled him to the back of the camper when no one noticed and proceeded to blow his brain the fuck out.
Eddie nearly combusted and died right then when Steve looked up at him through those pretty lashes, nuzzling his thigh and thanking him softly.
The sight went straight into Eddie’s spank bank and he didn’t even feel guilty about it. If anything, it just fueled his determination to kill Vecna so he could spend more time with his boy.
Much much later when everyone made it out alive and Eddie survived his horrible not-good spring break, he finally learned about Steve’s secret and offered the succubus a lifetime deal.
Eddie would be Steve’s personal charger for as long as he lived.
In response, Steve had jumped his bone right at that moment and didn’t stop until midnight.
Eddie had half a mind to worry about his kidney's welfare, but he soon decided it was future-Eddie’s problem. Present-Eddie was blissfully balls deep in Steve’s sweet hole and couldn’t care less.

Flufftober Day 13: Attic, Cellar, Hidden Rooms
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A/N: I took a bit of creative liberties here and decided that the batcave is close enough to a cellar and/or hidden room and the clocktower is close enough to an attic 😅 - mod angel
Pairing: Jason Todd x GN!Reader
Summary: You’re helping Oracle with patrol watch until you need to comfort a mildly injured vigilante.
~~~
You never thought you’d be able to see vigilantes in action like this. But, considering you were already aware of everyone’s identities at this point, and with how close you had become with everyone, you were invited to help watch over everyone on patrol.
Barbara had invited you to the clocktower one day, saying she could use an extra pair of eyes while everyone was out on patrol. Really, she probably just overheard you say how much you wished you could see everyone in action.
The first thing you noticed when you entered the room was all the monitors. Various tracking maps, security cameras, databases… all on huge screens that towered over you.
“Whoa…” you breathed, awestruck.
Barbara turned her head towards you, smiling. “Welcome to my utopia,” she announced with a flourish of her hands.
You walked over to her desk, really getting a feel for all the technology in the room. You ran your fingers over the table, feeling the smooth wood under your skin. All that was on the desk was a keyboard. There was no need for paper with all those monitors, you guessed.
“Impressive,” you muttered, transfixed by watching all the movement on the screens. “What happens if the power goes out?”
“Very powerful generators,” she replied, gesturing to one that was sitting under the desk. “We have quite the budget.”
“Right,” you laughed lightly, crouching down next to the desk. “So, what am I looking at?”
She started pointing out each part of the monitors: the locations, which of the moving dots corresponded to which person, the cases that were currently being worked on…
“Oracle,” you suddenly heard a familiar voice coming from Barbara’s comm link. “I need sights on a group of robbers near Gotham National Bank. I’m in pursuit, trying to keep myself out of their sight, and I need to know where I can cut them off.”
“I’ll get right on that, Hood,” she replied, sounding very professional as she started clacking away at her keyboard.
“Hood?” You asked her quietly, looking at the dot on the map she said was Jason moving very quickly away from the bank. She nodded without breaking her concentration.
Almost without thinking, you started shouting, “Hi Ja-“ you cut yourself off, suddenly remembering the circumstances you were in when Barbara gave you a stern look. “Hi Red Hood!” You shouted, fixing yourself.
“Huh?” You heard him reply, confused. “Is that- AH!”
Suddenly, you heard a loud crash! and saw the dot on the map stop abruptly. You widened your eyes and covered your mouth in shock.
“… Hood?” Barbara asked as you looked at each other, her eyebrows raised.
“Shit,” he groaned, and you could hear the clanking of metal from around him. “Uh… yeah, I don’t think I’m catching those robbers,” he sighed. “Is anyone else around? I’m going back to the Batcave.”
There was various chatter over the comms, from what you could hear over Barbara’s laughing, before one of the other dots on the map started moving towards where Jason was.
“You wanna go meet him there?” Barbara asked, covering her comm for a second.
“Do I wanna…?” You repeated quietly, your eyes widening. “Uhh, am I allowed in the Batcave?”
She shrugged. “Batman’s not there. What he doesn’t know won’t hurt him.” She started clacking on her keyboard again. “I can give you access. I trust you.”
“O… okay…” you muttered, standing up. “I guess I’ll just… go there, then…” You never thought you’d be allowed in the Batcave. It was kind of exciting.
You followed the directions Barbara gave you, eventually going through some secret tunnels and emerging in a huge, yet oddly well-kept cave. Computers, training equipment, and various vehicles were in their designated places. The place was basically devoid of people, except for…
“Fuck,” you heard a familiar groan, making you stifle a laugh. His steps echoed throughout the quiet cave, sounding like they were coming closer to you.
You popped out of where you had been standing behind a car, making Jason drop his helmet. That made you really start laughing.
“Jesus, why are you surprising me so much today?” He asked as you moved closer to him. He looked like he was holding back a smile. “Are you even allowed to be here?”
You shrugged, tucking yourself into his side. “Oracle let me in.”
“Of course she did,” he replied, wrapping his arm around your waist. “Nothing is sacred to that girl.”
As you got a better look at his face, you frowned. Bruises were starting to form on his cheek. “What happened, by the way?” You asked, pointing to them.
He grit his teeth, looking at you pointedly. “I was chasing people when someone distracted me, and I…” He sighed, rubbing the back of his head. “I ran into a bunch of trash cans.”
You covered your mouth, trying not to laugh hysterically, but absolutely failing.
“Hey, don’t laugh,” he rolled his eyes, a slight grin on his face. “It’s your fault.”
“Yeah, yeah,” you shook your head, gently tracing the bruises. “It’s alright, I can make it better.” You stood up on your tiptoes to press a little kiss to his cheek.
He scoffed, looking like he was blushing a bit as he looked away from you. “I’m not five, that’s not going to work.” He ruffled your hair, making you giggle. “I’ll be fine, no major damage. I’ve been through a lot worse,” he sneered.
You rolled your eyes. “Not everything has to be about your death,” you poked him in the side, making him laugh. “C’mon, let’s go see Alfred for some first aid.”
your friendly neighborhood spiderman
Tumblr media
words: 3k
warnings: spiderman!rafe, attempted robbery, friends to lovers, college student!reader, non canon spiderman things (no one tell miguel o'hara!)
huuuge shout out to @ladyinbl00d who inspired this completely <3
“did you see this new video of spiderman?” you question rafe, plopping down on the couch next to him, shoving your phone into his hand, already pulled open to tiktok. the video shows spiderman swinging through various buildings before disappearing into an alley.
“i wonder if that's near where he lives.” you hum, leaning your head against rafes shoulder. “you know, it's not that far from us.”
“what do you think of this spiderman guy anyways?” rafe questions, clicking the power button to get the screen to turn black. he's had enough spiderman for one night.
“i mean, he's like a hero right? he's great. and he protects the neighborhood which is what matters.” you nod, snatching your phone back from his hands.
“don't you have homework?” rafe asks as you begin to scroll again, trying to find more information.
“yeah, but don't you wanna know more? what if it's someone we know?” you gasp and turn to look at rafe. “what if it's someone in our building?”
“alright.” rafe chuckles, standing up and walking the short distance to your makeshift work area in the corner of the living room, pulling your chair away from the desk, “enough with this spider guy. get to work on your essay.”
“spiderman.” you clarify, but set your phone face down on the coffee table and take your seat at your desk, opening up your laptop.
despite rafes family being extremely wealthy in the outer banks, the money doesn't translate as well to new york city, so when you got accepted to a university in the city, rafe ended up renting a smaller apartment for the two of you.
you didn't expect your best friend to come with you, thinking you'd have to adjust to life without him, but rafe wasn't about to let you live alone in a big, often scary, city.
you finish your essay and quickly submit it, not bothering to proofread it as you navigate to instagram on your school laptop, looking for more spiderman sightings.
“y/n.” rafe says, making your eyes widen and slam the screen closed.
“yup?” you turn, a soft smile on your face, knowing you just got caught.
“time for bed.” he points towards your room, knowing you have your photography class early in the morning tomorrow.
“fine.” you roll your eyes. “you know, you're becoming more like ward every day.”
rafe sighs as you shut your door. he doesn't want to be treating you like this, but he knows the sun setting makes the criminals come out of hiding. he just wants to keep you safe and doing well in school, even if he does wish you chose one closer to home.
--
“neighborhood life.” you roll your eyes, linked arm in arm with your friend kayla. “i mean what does that even mean? you think an intro to photography class would give us more instructions. and then to say he doesn't want pictures of food stands or subways?”
“yeah, our professor sucks.” kayla agrees, camera hanging around her neck to snap a picture at a moments notice, while yours is shoved deep into your bag.
“maybe i can sit out on the fire escape tonight and try to get a picture of spiderman.” you hum, cheeks blushing slightly.
“that's actually a really good idea.” kayla admits with a nod. “i may just do the same.”
“ugh, i knew i never should have shared my idea with you, you bitch!” you say with a giggle, both dissolving into laughter as you reach your bus stop.
--
“what, you think spiderman is just going to conveniently fly by your window and you're gonna get a perfect picture?” rafe laughs.
you shrug. “stranger things have happened.”
“like what?” rafe questions, placing his hands on his hips.
“like your family finding all that gold.” you look to rafe, watching the way his face changes. you know there's something he isn't telling you about what happened. there's shame buried deep, and you're determined to find out what it is, but don't want to push your best friend and hurt his feelings.
“alright, sit out on the fire escape all night for all i care.” rafe shrugs.
and that is exactly what you do, sit on your windowsill, slipper covered feet against the metal landing, camera placed on your lap, waiting and watching.
the moon is full, shining brightly along with the city lights, skyscrapers that never seem to dull and yellow taxi cabs that never seem to stop running.
you let out a gasp when rafe opens up the window behind you, making you jump.
“sorry.” he says softly, wrapping a blanket around your shoulders. “just wanted to make sure you're okay.”
he hands you a cup of hot chocolate. you take a sip before placing it onto the sill.
“any sightings?” rafe asks.
“nope.” you shake your head before yawning. “thanks for the hot chocolate though. im gonna wait another hour then call it for tonight.”
“you're gonna get your picture.” rafe says. “trust me.”
--
you're about to head back inside, hot chocolate drained empty and blanket wrapped even tighter around your shoulders as the temperature continues to drop.
you let out another yawn, unable to stop them now as your eyes scan the horizon one more time.
you think you see something in between two buildings and grab your camera, only for a bike to suddenly dart out and into the street.
you sigh and stand up, stretching your tired legs when you hear a telltale whooshing sound that could only be a body moving through the air.
you raise your camera, snapping pictures as spidermans web attaches to your building, swinging directly past you. you swear he even looks straight down your camera lense.
you let out a loud whoop as he swings away, even yelling out into the night.
“we love you spiderman!”
--
“eat your words.” you smack the printed picture down onto your dining room table, right in front of where rafe is eating his cereal.
“i told you you'd get it!” rafe says, snatching the picture up.
“yeah, but you doubted at first.” you smile, accepting his half-hug as you stay standing, dressed and ready to go to class.
“i should have learned to never doubt you.” rafe shakes his head. a small town girl from the outer banks getting into a prestigious nyc school isnt unheard of, but it is unheard of to not use your parents money for bribes, and you did this solely on your own.
“that's right, cameron.” you smirk.
“well, you're absolutely getting an A on this assignment.” rafe hands the picture back, replaying your words from last night. we love you spiderman.
--
“an f?” you glare up at your professor. “i got a picture of spiderman!”
“and how does that show neighborhood life?” he questions. “he's just a punk who likes to dress up.”
“he's saved lives!” you argue, standing up, outraged.
“he's probably in some drug gangs pocket, letting their criminals go while robbing the others.” he shakes his head. “your photograph should have been more like michaels.”
you look at michaels photograph, sitting a row below you, proudly displaying the photo that the professor deemed an A+. “a rat? in the subway? seriously?”
you stomp out of class, kayla calling out for you, but you ignore your friend, not wanting to stay in that room for another minute.
you don't realize until you're halfway home that you're doing the one thing you promised rafe would never happen. you're walking through the streets of new york city alone.
you clutch your bag closer. certainly the daylight will help protect you as you try to keep to more populated streets, but you have to walk through a few more deserted blocks to get back to your shared apartment.
you just want to see rafe, to fall into his arms and have him listen to your ranting and rambling about how much professors suck.
you're too deep into imagining the relief you'll feel in that moment to realize someone is following close behind you, a man with a dark hood pulled over his face.
you're only made aware of his presence when his hand pushes into your back, shoving you into an alley.
you let out a scream as the man flips you so your back smashed into the brick wall.
“shut up!” he shouts, covering your mouth with his disgusting hand, making you gag instantly. “give me all your money!”
you're about to hand over your entire bag, school camera be damned even though you're supposed to return it at the end of your semester, when you hear the familiar whoosh.
the man seems to recognize it too, taking a quick step back before spiderman punches him straight in the face, sending him to the ground.
“stay away from her!” he growls out, a twinge of familiarity striking again. you quickly realize this is the first time you've heard spiderman properly speak, not shouts or groans during fights.
you could never predict what happens next as spidermans arms wrap around your waist. you have a second to react and wrap your arms around his shoulders before you're off, flying in the sky.
you squeal and stick your face into his chest, not wanting to see the street below you. you only look up again when your feet are firmly on the ground.
you blink your eyes open, realizing you're standing on your fire escape, your room right through the window behind you.
“you did see me that night!”
spiderman just nods before he's off again.
you rush inside, adrenaline causing your heartbeat to skyrocket as you call out for your best friend.
“rafe?” you shout, frowning when he doesn't answer.
the front door opens a moment later, rafe whistling as he walks in.
“oh, hey.” he frowns, tune suddenly dying. “i thought you were supposed to be in class?”
“i… my professor gave me an f. i was mad so i just left and started walking home when…” you know you shouldn't tell rafe. it would cause him to be even more paranoid.
“when what?” rafe questions, dropping his bag onto the floor, eyes only briefly glancing to make sure nothing spilled out, no tell tale colors peaking free.
“when i got robbed. but it's okay!” you quickly hold your hands up. “spiderman saved me!”
“spiderman, huh?” rafe questions before sighing at your rapid nods.
“i guess i gotta like the guy now,” he pulls you into a tight hold, wrapping you up in his arms in a much needed hug. “ afterall, he saved you.”
--
you are humming to yourself as you get the table ready for rafe to come home with your pizza, always splurging on friday nights to get an entire pizza to split between the two of you while catching up on your week, rafe always having a crazy tale of something he saw while walking around the city.
rafe bursts through the door, startling you as he lets out a whoop and holds the pizza up.
you laugh and attempt to reach the box, but even jumping is no use as he's simply too tall, arms stretching almost to the ceiling.
rafe finally brings it down to your level as you grab it out of his hands and set it onto the table, taking a deep inhale of the scent.
“i got you a drink.” you tell rafe, gesturing to the soda sitting on the table.
rafe feels a tingling before it even happens, taking a deep breath, trying to sense what's about to come when your hip bumps into the pizza box as you reach for your lemonade.
the pizza box is only half on the table, the weight of the lid hanging off causing the small bump to be enough to send it over the edge, towards the floor.
your pizza night is about to be ruined before rafe sweeps in, using his extra senses to save the meal.
you gasp, the pizza back on the table not even a split second after you realized it was even falling.
“jesus, rafey!” you squeal. “you've got like super senses or something!”
“yeah, or something.” rafe hums.
--
“i mean, you gotta be kidding me.” you roll your eyes. “an action shot? that's literally begging for me to submit another spiderman photo.”
“oh, agreed.” kayla nods. “you did not deserve that F, let him eat his words when you send in this next one.”
“mhm, i think im gonna walk around tonight to try and get a picture of him.”
“you will not!” rafe was listening from his bedroom, door open to keep an eye on you and your friend.
“it'll be fine!” you turn to look at him. “if anything happens, im sure spiderman will save me again.”
“girl, go over the details with me again!” kayla squeals. “im still so jealous, i wanna be whisked away by spiderman!”
“ugh, he's so hot!” you agree.
“how do you know he's hot?” rafe is now standing in the doorway. “he wears a mask all the time.”
you're about to respond when kayla stops you. “he's a guy, he'll never get it.”
rafe drops it, waiting until kayla leaves to bring it up to you again. “so how is spiderman hot?”
“he's just-” you sigh over dramatically. “such a good guy. did you see him stop swinging to help that old lady cross the street? like any guy putting his life on the line to help out his neighborhood has to be hot.”
“ah.” rafe simply says, turning his back so you can't see the smile on his face. “you're not going out tonight, right?”
“right.” you lie, knowing rafe can tell when you're not telling the truth.
“y/n-” he warns.
“ill be fine, rafe.”
--
you take nothing but your camera, hoping leaving your bag at home will get any potential robbers to leave you alone just in case spiderman isn't nearby to save you.
you quietly walk through the dark streets, lights occasionally illuminating the sidewalk as you keep your head turned upwards.
you walk well past midnight, circling in blocks around your neighborhood with still no sign of spiderman.
you were hoping for a perfect action shot from the street below as he swings by. you assume he must be in the rougher parts of the city, your feet subconsciously moving to head to worse neighborhoods than your own.
“alright, you've gone far enough.” the voice makes you gasp and turn around, seeing spiderman hanging upside down from a street light.
“have you been following me?” you question, a smile growing on your face, completely forgetting the reason you were trying to find spiderman was to take a photograph of him for your assignment.
“go back home. its late and dangerous out here.”
you can see spiderman is about to swing away. “wait!” you call out, moving closer as he drops his web lower. you move carefully, slowly caressing his cheek through the thick uniform.
“i can't show you my face.”
“i want to kiss you.” you say, watching the way his lips move, enticing even being completely covered. “can i kiss you?”
“yes.”
you move the mask lower, exposing his chin then finally lips. you lean in, hesitating for a moment before pressing your mouth against his in a kiss.
you only pull away when spiderman does, flipping to stand on his feet before quickly retaking your mouth, dominating the kiss now that he's right side up.
he finally pulls away with a harsh breath. “i-i can't. i have to go.”
“you're not going to swing me home?” you look him in the mask covered eye. “rafe.”
you can see his body physically react, tightening before relaxing. “how did you know?”
“you're my best friend. how could i not know? especially once i saw your face.”
“you… you knew and still kissed me?” rafe looks around quickly before ripping his mask off, baring his face to you.
“of course.” you place a hand on the back of his neck, pulling him back down. “ive always wanted to kiss you.”
rafe launches a web into the air as you kiss him again, flying through the sky as you makeout, his senses keeping you from crashing as he swings back towards home.
--
“so… how did this all happen?” you question. “you haven't been spiderman the whole time i’ve known you.” you can tell now in hindsight that he changed. you figured it was just being in new york, being older, but now you know.
“i got bit by a spider. i- i will spare you all the details but i did some very bad things in the outer banks. involved with getting the gold. so-” rafe sighs, looking at you, making sure you’re not judging him, not thinking of fleeing. “i wanted to fix my life. and when i got these new powers, i wanted to use them for good.”
“you are a good man, rafe.” you reach out and squeeze his hands. “whatever happened… you’ve made up for it. i promise.”
“thank you.” rafe breaks, falling forward and pressing his face against your shoulder. you wrap your arms around his shoulders, hugging him close.
you whisper quietly, not sure if you’re ready to say the words properly yet. “i love you.”
rafe looks up, hope sparking in his eyes. “i love you too. i always have.”
--
“be careful out there.” you press a kiss to rafes lips. you've known his secret for two weeks now, still getting nervous every time he leaves, even if he comes home unscathed the next morning after protecting the neighborhood all night long.
“i will.” he kisses you again, wishing he didn't have to leave your bedroom as he crawls out your window onto the fire escape. he pulls on the mask before swinging away, all while you watch from your bed.
you wake up the next morning with rafes front pressed against your back, spiderman suit still on except for the mask, arms wrapped possessively around your body.
you turn carefully in his grasp until you see his sleeping face, cheek slightly scuffed up from whatever happened overnight.
you press gentle kisses against his face, keeping him asleep. you look at the clock on your bedside table.
wait any longer, and you'll miss your photography class. you shrug, screw that class, and snuggle back into your boyfriend's hold.
