So I know we here at Startrekfandom love that "came back wrong but from the pov of the wrong" thing and apply it to many different characters and canon situations and I am far from trying to complain about it (I'm "came out wrong" trope myself so I was always gonna obsess over it) but having recently watched a very important episode (you'll know which one) for the first time I think there's a character who hits both tropes mentioned but llike, intertwined, opposite and subverted, and whom I wanna talk about.

Julian Bashir.

From his parents' pov he's "came out wrong but we got him help and he came back better" while from his own pov it's "came out 'insufficient', was destroyed for it, came back wrong and only later slowly came to terms with his new self tho never the process (justifiably so)" and it's heartbreaking because in a way, he's right! Jules Bashir died! His parents had an intellectually disabled child and decided to eugenics him! Julian is not the person he used to be and while I do love the person he is now, that doesn't bring back who he was! Part of me wishes we could've gotten to see Jules at least once and part of me hopes we never do because my heart would shatter.

This isn't a good comparison but nonetheless one I can't help drawing: it's giving similar vibes to anti-vaxxers. "I'd rather risk having a child who is dead than one who's autistic". Obviously this doesn't map over since Julian is still autistic and the procedure his parents subjected him to specifically targeted his intellectual disability and if any folks with id wanna comment on this I definitely recommend you listen to them over me, but it's a similarity I, as an autistic who has encountered anti-vaxxers again and again, can't help but point out. "Give me a normal child or give them death."

This may have been written about already but there needs to be stories about teenage Julian (after finding out and rediscovering who he was) practicing some good ol' recognition of the self through media. I need to hear about how he would encounter a story about someone who came back wrong (I'm gonna assume there's plenty of "wrong" pov stories floating around by the 24th century) and absolutely weep. I need to see Julian mourning Jules, taking years and years to process his feelings, experiencing guilt about how he, the imposter, didn't deserve to live Jules' life.

Came back wrong from the returned's pov but it wasn't an accident. It was done to you deliberately by the people who claim to love you. And now you are here, piloting the corpse of your predecessor.

Jules Bashir is dead. Long live Julian Bashir.

Thoughts on the transformers one movie?

Me? you wanna here my thoughts about the TF one?

SURE!!

First off the movie looks amazing, the ost is incredible, the voice acting is pretty good and the writing is Awesome! The pacing a little fast, the story movie kinda quickly which is fine, I’d rather have a fast movie then a slow one.

You can tell the actors really cared about this movie, I have never seen actors get this much into the marketing for anything! Brian Tyree Henry did an amazing job for Megatron, by far he was the best.

There was plenty of action! The fighting and weight of the character was great, you can tell they were really hitting each other hard. This movie had a lot of love put into it. Incredible watching experience.

D16 was the star of the show! In my opinion at least! They were able to capture the innocence and the loss of that innocence really well. The slight character tics also didn’t get past me and did a lot to add to the emotions the character were showing.

I loved this movie, and I will be watching more as soon as I can! I accidentally missed that end credits scene. We were just too excited and wanted to talk about it!

Alright! This movie fulfill something the fans have been asking for year for. The Orgin of Optimus prime and Megatron on the big screen. We all knew it was going to be a tragedy! Whether you ship Megop or not, we can all appreciate the loss of someone close, when we think we know someone but then seemingly out of nowhere, they flip. But I assure you, the flip was not out of no where.

But before I get to the main two I want to talk about everyone else first.

ELITA AND BEE

Sorry Oplita fans, Elita is on a path to get that promotion and get that bag! Elita is in fact a mean boss babe, but that not all she is. She is a strong and determined worker. Even tho she is one of the lower classes bots she does everything with a sense of pride, no matter what she’s doing. She cares a lot, her gruff and aggressive attitude may try to hide it but I see past that. Although she really didn’t have an arc to her character you know? Idk I might have to watch it again.

Bee is the goofster to the group. Very cute and very funny. He really didn’t have an arc either and I wish he did. Bee was mostly there to serve as the comedic relief. And honestly I think we all needed. He wasn’t ever too annoying or obnoxiously stupid. I very much enjoyed him!

Sentinel Prime

God what a fantastic villain he was! Kinda sad he died. I always knew Dee would kill him. He was just as pompous and trashy diplomat as I hoped. Such good lines from him. He died like a dog and couldn’t be happier. We didn’t get to see his alt mode which made me kind of sad. He’s like a mega church pastor! They are usually secretly evil. Him turning the tides of the battle with the primes is something else dude.

ORION

Oh god here we go. His character was just fantastic! I’m really happy we are getting an origin story. His personality being the adventurists, rowdy, troublesome questioner is so cool! And such a big contrast to the usual iterations of Orion pax. He’s stray kitten coded. His young age makes him optimistic, selfish and naive. It also causes him to mistreat Dee; having the best intentions of course, even tho he completely disregards what Dee feels. It started off as him just wanting to be seen and help his people to everything quickly getting out of hand and him losing his best friend. I’m sure he regrets making Dee participate in that race. His issue just being childlike innocence and being self centered.

DEE (aka Dean. Aka Megatron.)

Oh god y’all aren’t ready for this one!

Dee starts off as the goodest boy. Will of whimsy! But like most villains all it takes is one bad day. Oh Dee you poor thing. If robots could cry he would have like four times in this movie.

Good Christian boy. Followed the rules, didn’t ask questions and had unwavering love for the Primes. Megatronus and Sentinel being the big two.

It’s cool to think of Dee eyes being a dead giveaway to how he’s feeling. Betraying him even in the final scene.

“NO, I WANT TO KILL HIM!”

This part! This is my favorite part of the whole movie. Dee had the audience full attention. The desperation, sadness and anger in his voice. Fantastic! As D16’s friend, this needed to be addressed immediately. But I can understand Orion not knowing what to say or how to comfort him, cause as a kid yourself what do you even say to that?? Orion always knew something was wrong, he was the questioner, but to Dee this was his life. To Orion, Sentinel Prime’s betrayal wasn’t that deep. But this was Dee’s life, he followed them without question, just to see his hero struck down in cold blood. His anger is something Orion can’t comprehend, he never knew he had that in him. I think Orion could probably right this off the first time but it wouldn’t be that last time D16 would start scaring Orion.

I’ve always heard people describe Dee has flipping his personality. There is no flip. Dee is deceptively passive. His whole life has been flipped and need Orions support. But sadly that moment would never show up. I don’t even think Orion would know how to go about it since he was so focused on his goal. My mom said Orion was a bit irritating because  he couldn’t properly read his friend.

At first I thought he had carved this into himself. Which is bad, really bad. But I think Sentinel doing it to him actually makes it worse. He hasn’t just mutilated Dee once, But twice. He took something he liked, something that was special, something that was a symbol of him and Orions friendship and made it cause him pain. It’s like the last of his innocence being taken away from him.

So when he was trying to kill Sentinels and Orion was holding him back he said “He needs to die.” And that last part sounding so emotional hits so hard. He loved Sentinel. You can hear the hurt and sadness in his voice for megatronus prime, sentinel the other miners, but mostly for himself. And almost all that hurt Orion had to say “you’ll be like sentinel.”

Oh brother that was no the move. Immediately upon it being compared to sentinel by his best friend, the rage returned. Blinded by his rage he accidentally shot Orion.

Finally we have Megatron. Bro is on his Kratos arc. Sentinel was driven by greed. Megatron is driven by his hate and anger.

This by far the best transformers movie. I think ever.

I am completely amazed at the sheer power the internet has, that an online community has. This is my new obsession and I am utterly devoted to it. It taught me and gave me SO MUCH. I will forever be learning how to give anything back.

Welp I guess I’m going to have to go into some detail now XD

So here is a very basic timeline of the key events in this AU and how it fits into the Blood Dragon universe. There’s even a few pictures!

WARNING this is a LONG post and features discussion of scientific abuse and torture so read with care.

The setup starts before Eden takes over with the Rabbid invasion of the US and Rayman being dumped into this universe from Dimension X

The Rabbids are dealt with by the military but Rayman is captured and held as an alien by the government, who don’t really know what to do with him but he seems friendly and hey it’s a free alien they can keep as a science project.

Rayman is not ok with this but he has nowhere else to go and these military guys seem to not want to kill him so ok.

Then Eden takes over. They basically do this through corporate meddling and financial control and managed to do it without needing Rayman as a mascot.

BUT now they have control over the government and all the stuff they have they find Rayman and go ‘oh cool, free test subject’ and start to experiment on him to figure out a) how he works and b) tie this into their plans to create a dimension portal gun.

Rayman is VERY not ok with this but he doesn’t have much choice.

Cue poor Ray getting physically tortured for months as Eden tries to figure out how he works.

MEANWHILE we cut to Sam Fisher. He’s pretty much the same as he was in the show. Ex us military guy who doesn’t like how Eden is corrupting the youth and destroying the nation etc etc

He lives with his daughter Sarah who is at the age where Eden is trying to corrupt her young mind (but they don’t have the Rayman Kids concept so it’s not quite as effective). Plus Sam is a good dad who is trying to keep his little girl on the right track.

Sam connects with Marcus Holloway and his hacker network in the hopes of getting Sarah out of Eden to stay with a military buddy of his.

Holloway agrees to help him smuggle Sarah out but in return wants the ex military badass to do some recon for him to figure out what the hell Eden is doing with this whole dimensional portals thing.

Sam is like ‘sure if it helps my daughter and messes with Eden a little I’m game’

So Sam uses his super espionage skills to break into one of Eden’s science divisions to get info.

He doesn’t get far before he gets discovered and has to retreat, but not before he ends up finding Rayman locked in Eden’s basement,

Eden has pretty much taken everything they need from poor Ray and left him to rot until they can figure out what to do with him.

Sam being a cool dude takes pity on the limbless guy and invites him to escape with him. Rayman is 100% ok with this plan.

Cue daring escape.

Sam takes Ray home to meet Sarah who is instantly fascinated by the little limbless alien and the two form a sibling like bond. Rayman is just happy to be somewhere safe where he’s not being tortured for science and is reminded that humans are ok actually.

This bond also helps Sarah because the idea that Eden would hurt Rayman helps her not fall for their bullshit propaganda so easily.

The little family spend a few months together to form a bond until Marcus gives Sam the all clear for Sarah to escape Eden

Originally Rayman is supposed to go with Sarah but she asks him to stay with her dad to keep him safe in Eden. Rayman agrees and he and Sam send Sarah out of Eden safely with Marcus’ help.

Almost immediately after this Marcus and his hacker group are raided and captured.

Sam is obviously gung-ho to rescue him in return for what he did for Sarah, so he and Rayman bust into the VR jail to rescue Marcus.

Sam, Rayman and Marcus form their own rebel group to take down Eden and retreat to the desert VR facility as the foundation of their base.

Cue several years of recruiting and fucking with Eden’s propaganda as Eden grows in power.

Sam trains Rayman to help him take part in stealth missions with him and Marcus is the tech guy support. Basically Rayman becomes the Splinter Ray skin from Rayman Legends

Through this they also make contact with the Assassin organisation that Bullfrog is part of and the teams start working together to wreck Eden.

Sam and Rayman meet Bullfrog. Yay!

More cool training and sharing of skills between Sam, Rayman and Bullfrog.

This leads into Wasteland War as Eden strikes back against the rebels.

During this time Dolph is working for Eden but his story more of less plays out the same with him meeting Alex, ditching the military and going on the run. He’s not really involved with the rebellion at this point.

MEANWHILE Sarah returns to Eden and reunites with Sam.

Because she wasn’t brainwashed as a kid she believes in the strength of the rebellion. She came back to either take her dad somewhere safe or join the team. Obviously she does the latter.

Sam and Rayman are obviously overjoyed to see Sarah again.

BUT SHE IS NOT ALONE.

In order to locate her dad she had to make contact with someone on the inside of Eden who would be willing to send her updates and info

SURPRISE ITS JADE AND PEY’J :D

Jade and Sarah are penpal buddies yay

By this point we pretty much have the whole gang together on the rebel side.

THEN Alex betrays Dolph for his own goals and Dolph gets captured. THIS WOULD BE THE STARTING POINT FOR THE STORY FROM DOLPH’S PERSPECTIVE LIKE THE SHOW.

Marcus is like ‘hey guys we should have this badass on our side’

Sam and Rayman are like ‘lol ok’

They bust him out and ‘encourage’ him to join their rebellion.

Dolph is hesitant until Marcus tells him he can get him info on Alex.

Dolph joins the rebellion strike force because he’s just that easy to convince XD

Everyone is here and as stated above we follow Dolph’s story coming to terms with his new team, learning about their history and how they all work together.

IT WOULD BE A BIG OLD GROUP PROJECT AND IT WOULD BE AWESOME.

And there we go! Basically all the setup for an alternate take on the Blood Dragon universe. Let’s call it the ‘Splinter Cel Remix’ :D

Obviously there is a lot less death and double crossing in this version and some people might thinks that’s lame but this is only the background for a continuing plot line so anything could happen. Also I’m SURE my timelines are all messed up with character ages and when the Wasteland war was, and even more screwed up with removing Rayman as Eden’s mascot. BUT WHATEVER it’s just a fun little what if.

The Deathslinger / Caleb Quinn - I'd imagine Caleb is around his mid-to-late 60s ( if you don't think too hard about the time-fuckery that is the Entity's Realm ), so the man definitely has some years under his belt. - When it comes to sex, though, he might've fooled around with one or two folks in his younger days. Like most other cowpoke of his time, he didn't really care what gender he was laying down with. - Yes, I am saying that Caleb is pansexual. All cowboys are at least a little bit gay. I don't make the rules. - He definitely didn't see any action after nearly killing Bayshore and being stuck in a penitentiary for 15 years straight, that's for sure. - Plus, there's no good reason to be horny in a place like that. - That being said, he knows the basics and maybe a trick here or there, so he's not a total buffoon, but he's not a floozy either.

The Knight / Tarhos Kovács - Being taken from his home and put into slavery at such a young age, he didn't exactly have a normal childhood. - Tarhos didn't have the time to be concerned with anything remotely romantic or sexual, constantly going on campaigns with his men and killing everyone that stood in their way. - He would never admit it to anyone, even himself, but this man is so touch-starved and needy that just hugging him would probably give him a boner as stiff as his claymore. - Tarhos tries to ignore sexual urges until they go away, but that doesn't always work, so he might have to rub one out once in a while. He feels guilty about it every time. - Yeah, he's a virgin. No experience at all.

The Hillbilly / Max Thompson Jr. - Oh, this poor boy. We all know his story by now. It's pretty obvious that he never had any physical contact, much less that of a romantic or sexual nature. - Back in his time, television shows weren't nearly as scandalous as nowadays. There was no way of accessing pornographic material unless you got special magazines, which he of course never did. - Going through puberty, he would feel strange and uncomfortable, just trying to ignore the weird feelings he had. It made him want to crawl out of his own skin. - Those habits stuck with him into his adulthood, constantly fighting his own body and trying anything to get the strange feelings to go away. Eventually, he figured out that friction was the easiest method. - You could say he's "innocent", but I prefer "clueless". - If someone were to truly earn his trust and explain to him what erections, masturbation, and sex are, he'd get super flustered and cover his face in shame. - His first time would need to be slow and more of a tutorial than anything else. Dude's probably gonna cum as soon as a hand touches him. Just be patient.

I just do not understand the insistence that animals must be sentient.

Because if they were, then why are the animals that kill other animals not labeled as murderers?

Hell, why aren't cats seen as malicious, mini, jigsaw killers considering how they play with their food. Why aren't ewes looked upon with disgust for often trampling orphaned lambs that a farmer tries to get them to adopt? Why aren't wolves seen as bullies for hunting in packs to kill prey? Why aren't dolphins more acknowledged for being effing rapists?

If you believe that animals are capable of reasoning, then that automatically makes all animals that eat meat into exactly what humans that eat meat are, thus they should be looked upon with every bit as much scorn as certain vegans look upon regular ass people. And it'd also mean that any animal that hunts is a murderer.

Hell, many animals are cannibals! In fact, plenty even eat the young of other animals or even their own young if they're so much as lacking in B12!

Literally! Mother hamsters are known to eat her own babies if she's put on an all-corn diet! They don't even have to be dying because of it!

You can't claim that animals are all sentient & then not hold them responsible for their actions! That's hypocritical! Because if these animals are sentient, then they are making the active decision to commit these actions & should be held acountable for them! Period!

Seriously, unless an animal is specifically an obligate herbivore, they will likely still eat meat given the chance!

And, whether you like it or not, animals are only as vegan as their options. As soon as times get tough for a deer, it's gonna be eyeing up any little Tweeties or Thumpers they come across. Same with horses, sheep, ect.

In fact, if animals are as deserving of life & respect as us, then doesn't that make having pets the same as slavery? And how do cat owners even justify feeding their pets? At least those that force their cats into a vegan lifestyle are being consistent even though they're abusing the poor things. Those cats aren't gonna live to be 10 years old on a diet like that & they'll be miserable the whole time.

Like, how do people twist their brains into so many directions just to justify their lifestyles??

Seriously, humans are so freaking unique within the animal kingdom. We are probably the only creatures who would do all this nonsense for the sake of critters that honestly don't give an eff.

Like, dude, whatever. You don't wanna eat meat, then don't. No skin off my brow. More brisket for me! But don't moralize your choice & don't demonize those who love a delicious steak.

Here's what some don't seem to understand; those animals are gonna die anyway, whether it's by the hand of man, a predator animal, sickness, or old age. Their days are numbered no matter what. And, quite frequently, they'll still get eaten. So, in the end, what's the difference if a sheep is eaten by a human or a buzzard or a coyote?

You didn't save that sheep's life. You only postponed the inevitable. Because if you're not the one who eats it, then someone or something else will. You cannot stop it.

And it's likely going to hurt regardless, so saying shit like "anything to reduce at least a little bit of the pain in the world" is just pure naiveté. You haven't reduced the pain in the world even a little. And in fact, considering how a lot of animals don't even care if their food is all-the-way dead as they're eating them, you could even say that that animal might end up experiencing even more pain than if they'd been killed by a human.

And that isn't even taking into account sickness or accidents! How do you know that that animal's last moments won't be spent in complete misery or abject fear??

Because one of the things about humans is that, for the most part, we prefer our food dead-dead before we eat it. And we intentionally go out of our ways to make death as painless a transition as possible, even for the animals we're gonna eat.

If we're gonna keep it 100, ya'll. Humans can be some of the gentlest, most merciful killers on earth.

Hell, we have laws against animal cruelty!

And, the thing is, animals... don't. Period. In fact, most don't make it to old age.

So, in the end, your efforts were meaningless.

day 6: past

AHHH we got to my favorite part - backstories!!

i wish i could write about all of my 6 ocs, but i dont think uni will let me lol so i decided to spin a wheel for each of the days!!!!

...and then funnily enough it landed on Yuze who has the most developed backstory

i dont want to get too much into the worldbuilding here... his parents were vampires and immigrants who got a job as tailors in the Lazarus estate (home to two young nobles, Juliet and Ange, around Yuze's age)

hes always had a pretty good relationship with his parents! i think funnily enough he was a bit spoiled by them, especially his mom, who he always clung to and admired. he has also always respected his parents greatly :'] esp. his father, sometimes even a bit too much (was often scared to approach him)

yea and then they were executed for treason when he was like 9 years old

um before that happened he also became friends with Ange. but that was like. almost entirely inconsequential to him UNTIL he convinced himself that Ange was responsible for his parents death (as people do) which is really funny to me because Ange wasnt very important to him UNTIL he started to center his life around getting his revenge lmao

well. he entered his parentless era and was sent to an orphanage. he met an older girl there who kind of took care of him and guided him :) her name was Csilla (he called her Lila) and well. she also died due to the negligence of the poorly funded orphanage. for years he thought she ran away without him Btw

then he entered his epic dissociation era where he was in.. like.. how do you even call it... this old dude (named Damien Eligioto) whos a retired vampire assistant of the late emperor "takes care" of young vampires who are poor / have no parents / etc. they get uniforms and rooms to sleep in and even education. but its not very fun its lowkey child labor factory and fulfilling his power fantasy most of the time.

yea anyways this Might be the most traumatic period for Yuze. he doesnt remember almost anything from that time. he only remembers learning thar Lila died and the day when Eligioto took interest in him (mostly the fact that he didnt talk to anyone and always did everything without a word) and offered him a way to make some extra money by killing / injuring people he didnt like. giving this job to a 16 year old is very stupid however it makes sense since he saw those teenagers as disposable pawns that u could make the fault fall on if they got caught

and so Yuze entered his very very brief era of being a teenage fuckigb assasin before he was like "wait... if i can do this to others then i can also do that to that guy i hate" and he straight up killed Eligioto and ran lol

and then he lived a few years in a little tiny village doing nothing <3 letting the mental illness consume him. until there came a proposition to work at the Lazarus estate... the dreams of revenge awaken again... and this is basically where the plot of the whole thing starts

whew this conversation on misogynoir and claudia. if there's one character where there's no legitimate reason to hate her it's claudia. she's literally the embodiment of has never done anything wrong in her life. i hope someone (not me 😩) explores the childism angle wrt to claudia. because people be hating children and wanting to dominate them.

Although this does mean that I have to give up my job as a model and my hold on Adrien, it does mean I can go after bigger fish, such as THE Damian Wayne. Mama taught me from a young age how to get what I want, she told me that I have to be willing to do anything to meet my ends, I mean that is how she got my father to marry her. My dad was born into a relatively wealthy family in Italy but he was the youngest of five, so he never learned how to spot gold diggers AKA my mom. She went the damsel in distress route to get his attention before trapping him for good. He loved her. laugh poor fool. Mama told me her plan for Gotham; first we “accidentally�� into some criminals (men we paid to mess with us) before being saved by some rich dude, hopefully, Bruce Wayne, and butter him up with thanks, then make up some story about being wronged and maybe tell some story about having my dear poor father being killed in front of me, in order to gain sympathy, of course, the sucker will take us in and mama will have the chance to seduce him. In time, after I make a name for myself as the rich, talented heiress, we’ll be invited to the Wayne Gala and I will have my chance to get my hands on a Wayne husband. As I was packing for our plane ride to Gotham, I saw Sabrina's dad walk in the door before going up to my mama. I didn’t hear what they were talking about but mama seemed outraged. “My daughter did no such thing” she screamed, which got my attention. “Miss please move over, your daughter is under arrest and there's nothing you can do” Officer Roger replied before attempting to cuff me. “What is the meaning of this?” I demanded. Ranger of the North; part of Golodir's company. Waited for his trapped friends for years (Lord of the Rings Online character)

he's a ranger of the north who followed his captain to angmar despite aragorn very specifically telling them 'hey, angmar's super dangerous, Do Not'. most of his friends got stuck and/or killed by some haunted statues, and he kept trying to cross the statues to go help them (failed many times til they almost killed him) and just waited for them on the other side for years before he managed to get a message back to the rest of the rangers. love his friends So Much and will not stop following them into stupid dangerous situations

Canonically the ranger who would give the best hugs

he's loyal to a fault, staying behind (alone) in the dread-realm of Angmar just desperately hoping for word from his captain. He couldn't make it further east to where Golodir was because of a valley of powerful watching stones that killed like half of their company when they passed through them the first time. Corunir was trapped on the west side while the survivors made it east, but kept trying to pass them for years and years "until my very spirit was broken within me" as he puts it. like. dude. this poor guy! he kept throwing himself at the valley of death-statues for years and he somehow survived. he was broken by it but he did it out of that stubborn loyalty, because "I could not abandon my captain" :( he just wants his friends to be ok!!! I'm literally so normal about him. also he's somewhere on the aroace spectrum. this is canon probably dude just trust me. we love an aroace-spec king

Eldacar of Gondor:

The twenty-first King of Gondor, also known as Vinitharya. During his reign the conflict known as the Kin-strife occurred and he was forced from his throne for ten years.

The blorbo of all time actually. He’s the protagonist of one of the most interesting stories in the LoTR appendices, the Kin-strife, and everything about his life story is so fascinating! His father was the crown prince of Gondor and his mother was the princess of Rhovanion so not a Númenorean. As a result all the racist nobles of Gondor made noises about how Eldacar was of “lesser race” and wouldn’t live as long as a “true Dúnadan”. One of the most fascinating examples of fantasy racism in Tolkien’s works imo – the bigotry is awful but the bigots have a shield to hide behind! Obviously their concerns are actually valid because they just don’t want their king to die young! (Their concerns aren’t valid. But I think the worldbuilding here is great.) Anyway Eldacar was born in Rhovanion and given the birth-name Vinitharya, but when he returned to Gondor aged five he was obliged to take up the Quenya name Eldacar, presumably to pacify all the racists in Gondor. He’s the EMBODIMENT of mixed-race/immigrant child trauma my beloved. Eventually his father died and he ascended to the throne of Gondor, but then his shitty second cousin Castamir (all my homies hate Castamir he’s the worst) started the civil war known as the Kin-strife and usurped Eldacar’s throne. Eldacar was forced to flee north to Rhovanion but Castamir captured his eldest son Ornendil and had him cruelly put to death which is SO SAD. But Eldacar, being brave and resourceful and clever and extremely cool, put together an alliance with his mother’s kinsfolk in Rhovanion and after ten years reclaimed his throne, which turned out to be slightly easier than expected because Castamir was The Worst and all his subjects hated him. And Eldacar PERSONALLY fought and killed Castamir HIMSELF and AVENGED HIS SON which is extremely important when you consider all the cringefail elves in the legendarium whose quests for revenge didn’t really go anywhere at all. Then he lived to be 235 proving that all the idiot racists who were worried about his lifespan didn’t have any idea what they were talking about, as is par for the course with racists. Also the Kin-strife itself has such far-reaching consequences for the history of Gondor! The Corsairs of Umbar, Gondor’s long-standing enemies, are actually followers of the descendants of Castamir. And during the Usurpation of Castamir Osgiliath was sacked and burned, leading to the beginning of its decline as Gondor’s greatest city. Even though Eldacar’s story is, to me, ultimately hopeful, it’s also such a fascinating turning point in the history of Gondor. Also ALSO he’s explicitly surrounded by textual ghosts which is really fascinating. His father Valacar has “children” plural – so Eldacar had siblings!! What were they like? How did they react to it all? And his son Aldamir is described as Eldacar’s second son and third child, meaning that he had a daughter too. Who was she?? What happened to her? He’s such a blorbo and there’s so much interesting stuff to dig into around him and he has to win this entire tournament please please please❤️

Out of curiosity, could you make an example of a character that, in your opinion, was forcibly woobiefied by the narrative? In what instance(s) did you feel "cool motive still murder" or "I do not care enough about their plight, stop manipulating me"? It is a fine line to cross, so I find it hard to pinpoint where it is.

Scourge is one example. Archie really flip-flopped on what it wanted him to be. The new kid on the block? A pathetic nobody? Woobie, destroyer of worlds? Outside of that one side story, Scourge's daddy issues are not brought up again, begging questions of why they were introduced to begin with. They don't particularly do anything to flesh him out since they don't gel with his previous characterization (hailing from a world where everyone is "born evil") and his tears at Jules' mean words feel manufactured; if he really cared about his father, maybe he shouldn't have killed him.

Also like what the fuck, dude, your father achieved world peace and your response is to off him? At least when Creoda offs his dad, it's because his dad forces him to in replacement of his brother's punishment, and he's clearly horrified. 😤

Another example would be how the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy treats Christian Grey's trauma. Grey is a billionaire at age 27 by essentially doing nothing other than being adopted into the right family. Furthermore, he is an abuser who uses his kinky predilections as an excuse to "whip little brown-haired girls" who resemble his mother, whom he calls "the crack whore."

He used to go hungry sometimes as a toddler and this is stated to be the reason he does humanitarian aid now that he's #ultrarich. His lover Ana makes such a huge fuss about the trauma he sustained at the age of four, to the point where she infantilizes him as her "lost boy" during the most random moments, despite the fact that he's a grown man with more money and power than brains. Like sometimes she will cry over this shit for no apparent reason. It doesn't occur to her that he is financially abusing her by showering her with expensive gifts she doesn't want and forcing her to sell her old car.

Although it's not impossible for childhood hunger to impact one's psyche well into adulthood... those issues usually stem from having been poor and food-insecure for a long time. Grey would have well forgotten his hunger after having been adopted because the threat was no longer hanging over his head. So it comes across as "methinks the lady doth protest too much" whenever Ana yammers on about how little Grey had, especially when she goes all "uwu my poor Christian" in order to gloss over her own abuse at Grey's hands.

The more plot-relevant trauma Grey sustained is having been assaulted as a teen by an older woman. Even that is loaded with unfortunate implications, as it suggests an interest in kink must be the result of sexual trauma. However, the narrative treats the matter with such heavy-handed and juvenile clumsiness anyway that you just wind up feeling irritated with everyone involved.

Ana gives his abuser the nickname "Mrs. Robinson," and it's like. Reducing Grey's assaulter to a cougar psychically distances us from the gravitas of the situation. The book only pays the barest lip service to the fact that it's wrong for grown women to assault male minors (and even that feels perfunctory), and worse still, Grey remains friends with his assaulter, citing her as an inspiration and the reason for his empire. Like, what the fuck?

E.L. James could have built a more substantial story with these elements. Perhaps Grey is being financially abused by his assaulter long after the sexual assault stops, but he cannot escape the relationship due to being entangled in emotional and financial thorns. Perhaps his assaulter blackmails him, threatening to tank his reputation if he comes forward on the basis that people still believe the "female predators are just cougars doing young boys a favor" myth. Perhaps it takes him falling in love with an "unwashed peasant" Ana to realize that love isn't supposed to hurt, and he gives up his billionaire lifestyle for her despite poverty-related fears brought on by his childhood hunger.

This was probably close to the story 50 Shades wanted to tell, but it fails at that due to the fact that Grey is a massive douchenozzle who abuses his power and the fact that Ana has the IQ of a mollusk.

Imo woobification is a matter of whether the trauma remains relevant to the character and narrative in question. Scourge doesn't give a shit about his dead dad after issue 192, and neither does the rest of the comic; ergo,

Likewise, why should we care about the time Grey had nothing to eat at age four when he now commands the wealth of a small nation and can afford to feed a second?

The impact has to be proportional. Nobody lives to adulthood without accruing some baggage along the way, and it ought to be the same for fictional characters (generally speaking; there are, as always, exceptions).

I think the solution entails trying to consider characters holistically: where they've been, what they've seen, their beliefs, their culture, their environment, their relationships. Each impacts the next. Not to keep tooting my own horn by using my work as a counterexample, but Creoda suffers from the trauma of dehumanization at the hands of his family, which would be bad enough on its own. But it is exacerbated by his brother's abuse, the fatalism of Saxon culture, the strife in his relationships with those who ought to love him and who he ought to love, and "reinforced" through his continuous and painful resurrections.

His brother Cynric is the cause of the curse that echoes through every chamber of his life, so it's little wonder, then, that Creoda's goal is ultimately to destroy Cynric in the vain hopes of becoming a normal man. But it will not be enough to replace the emptiness, for death, like vengeance, always craves more.

It is not a drastic or singular trauma like the more overt 'nam flashbacks Arthur suffers of Camlan, but his beliefs have calcified in his bones like a misshapen sheath, protecting a more vulnerable marrow within.

Creoda does not base his beliefs on nebulous notions of faith; the curse is indeed real and ontologically proven as far as he's concerned. It is real because it proves itself to be real. And every implication that comes saddled with it is, therefore, just as unshakably real. He cannot be reasoned with because this is how he knows the world works. Nothing is more frightening than the implacability of a zealot who believes reality proves him right.

Yet knowing his mindset does not excuse his cruelty. If anything, his piety to a vindictive god makes his actions even more fucked-up, because he could say "my god has said that I must take your firstborn son to prevent a blight" and it's like what are you going to do? Kill him? The guy who can't die?

Finally: It's interesting to see one of the "kids/tweens/teens" having a "villain era". (Or a mischief/delinquent era if you prefer since they're young).

That said... Considering its a Cassadine, and Charlotte specifically, are they gonna do a thing like her being a reincarnated Helena or a mini!Helena? (Don't say it can't happen, this show has done plenty of shit before that didn't make complete sense outside of GH land).

And if its not something like... What's Charlotte's motive? She always acts out with a purpose. (The snake in Ava's bag after Ava and Nikolas "stole" her home.)

Does she not like Anna as much as she claims? Is she trying to secretly hook Valentin and Nina back up? Did she read the article on Anna and decide she wasn't good enough for her Papa?

Or is this about trying to make her dad hurry up about a "safe" home? Is it something else? Some unknown disorder?

Also.... Is Charlotte also behind the house fire? Because that seems a bit extreme for her, given her age.

But then they did add in that tarot detail (which always means more in Soap Opera land than it does in the real world) so maybe the spirit of Grandma Helena told her to do it? Or possessed her or something?

I dunno.

What I do know, however, as someone who had a cousin start off with "innocent/kids will be kids" vandalism turn into full-on criminal activity is that Valentin needs to try and nip this in the bud ASAP. Otherwise, Charlotte's gonna find herself in real hot water and there will be very little he can do about it.

Virche Evermore -ErroR:Salvation- Review 🥀

Hey folks, before we get started please note the massive amount of trigger warnings for this game. Welcome to the island of Arpéchéle, a country where death has cursed the citizens here. Due to a horrible curse, nobody can live past the age of 23 if they are from the island. We follow Ceres, a young woman who is rumored to be death incarnate. Ceres is severely depressed because most the residents of Arpéchéle torment her and harass her over supposedly being death. Ceres one day decides, after having some wild events happen, she’s going to help solve the mysterious of what’s happening in Arpéchéle. As always, this review will contain spoilers and I will go in the route order I took. For the first time, though, I have done a First Impressions post as well. Please take a look if you’re interested! Let’s get started on solving the mysterious curse of death!

Spoilers Ahead

Mathis Claude 📚

Following the recommended route order, I started with Mathis. Mathis is the only one left of the Claude family and is looking to avenge them by killing Bourreaux, who most likely killed his family. I say most likely because Mathis didn’t actually see him killing his family, but the bodies were left like Bourreau’s victims according to Mathis. Mathis becomes extremely depressed and isolated after the events of the common route, so Jean hires Ceres to work as a maid for the Claude family. His route is centered around him letting go of his vengeance and anxiety and the struggles that come with it. Mathis’s route also explores this new character, The Deliverer. There’s a rumor that if a woman makes a jar with The Deliverer’s favorite flowers in water and hold it up to the stars, she will be able to leave the island. Yeah, it��s as sketchy as it sounds. Since there is literally no way to get the good endings until you play the despair endings, we’re in for some rough endings. The first despair ending isn’t that true route ending thing, but it is really twisted. If I wasn’t making a minimal spoiler review, I’d go into so much detail. As for the actually proper despair ending, the second one, this one is just incredibly messed up. I saw on Blerdy Otome’s blog that is you like Orlok, you’ll love Mathis’s route and oh my god that is 100% correct. The amount of despair these poor boys face is ridiculous. Now the salvation ending, OH MY GOD GUYS. GUYS. THIS POOR GUY HAS BEEN THROUGH SO MUCH THIS ENDING WAS SO WORTH IT. I was a little worried they wouldn’t give this poor dude a break but it’s so cute and so worth it. 10/10.

Lucas Proust 🍎

Second up, Lucas. If you’ve seen my first impressions post, you’ll know his route was my most anticipated. Lucas is a teacher who goes around to various orphanages to teach the children. He’s one of the few people in Coene who treats Ceres like an actual person. While he didn’t teach her that much, he still refers to Ceres as his former student quite a bit. Throughout the common route, we see that he is really strong but is hiding it for some reason. The only person who witnesses his ridiculous strength is Adolphe, and nobody believes him. At first, I didn’t really understand why he was so invested in helping the group track down Bourreau, but after starting his route and having some theories confirmed it became quite obvious. This route focuses more on Bourreau, the anti-reliver cult, and Lucas’s family. Trying not to spoil too much, but Lucas’s family is important to his route and to some connections to other characters. I went very back and forth on my thoughts during this route, in a way akin to how I felt playing Shiraishi’s route from Collar x Malice. It may be a little surprising, but I ended up enjoying this route a lot. I feel like a lot of it made sense. The despair ending killed me though, and it’s really unsettling. The other despair ending and other ends were ok, but nothing was impactful as that first one. As for the salvation ending, oh boy this one is probably the most non-good good ending. I was genuinely tearing up reading this one. Lucas fans will not be catching any breaks here unfortunately. I’m giving it a 9/10.

Scien Brofiise 🧬

Moving along to number three, Scien is the director of the Reliver Institute. Scien also happens to not only be the oldest reliver alive, but the man who created the technology. Scien is more focused on his own research and what he thinks is most efficient. He thinks emotions are useless and focuses on creating relivers to live longer instead of with more realistic emotions. Scien really annoyed me at first, but I was interested in seeing how his route played out. Truthfully, I was more interested in seeing how reliver technology worked. If you’re looking for a story that could work medically in the real world, this isn’t for you. I enjoy hearing ideas people come up with for things like this though, so I personally was not bothered by all the weird science. My views on Scien weren’t a back and forth rollercoaster, but more akin to how I played through most of Piofiore. I started off being neutral/general dislike towards Scien and grew to enjoy him as a character. I think Scien being upfront about what he’s like and that he doesn’t care whether people like him or not made me more chill with how awful he can be. I really liked the growth he had throughout his route because of this too. His despair ending was oddly the tamest one yet, which I absolutely did not expect after the harsh ones for Mathis and Lucas. Because of that, I was just more generally like “man that sucks sorry Scien” compared to absolutely horrified stares at the screen over what was going down. His salvation ending, though, was amazing! I enjoyed this ending so much. I’m genuinely surprised Scien has one of the more happier salvations. 10/10

Yves 🐡

We’ve made it to the first locked route! Yves is the deputy director of the Corps and the owner of Courrune, and he’s liked by pretty much everybody. He’s considered one of Ceres’s “victims” due to a huge burn scar on his face from him saving her during a fire as children. During the prologue, he basically becomes Ceres’s first friend outside Adolphe. In this route, he’s basically made it his mission to get her to break out of her shell and be seen as a normal girl. This route’s focused on Yves’s past, his relationships with others, and the Lycoris Noirge flowers. If you thought Scien’s route had a ton of pseudo-science going on, then prepare yourself for Yves’s! A lot happens and is explained in this route, so I’m glad it’s a locked route. This route, and especially the main despair ending, is basically the epitome of doomed lovers. It’s a very angst filled route, which is the entirety of this game admittedly. After how chill Scien’s route was in comparison to the other two, I had the false hopes this one would be a bit more tame. This despair ending kinda stuck out to me as the strangest and I have no clue why. As for the salvation ending, man was that adorable yet sad! It felt like a really fitting end though. 9.5/10.

Le Salut 🗡️

The final ending, a route shared between Ankou and Adolphe. This route was nothing like I thought it was. We have a mini rehashing of the common route, but things quickly change between the starting events of the common route and the events in this route. This route, being the final one, sets to reveal the last of the plot twists and tie up any loose threads. For anybody looking for slightly unhinged sci-fi, please up your unhinged tolerance for this route. Things get wild here quick. I guessed a lot of the twists before they happened, but some of them were wild even for me. I played through all the bad ends first before the main LI endings, and oh boy were these wild. I still think they were really interesting and enjoyable though, and things are explained fairly well at least for me. The Evermore ending…uh minor spoilers here for expectations but I’m sorry to the Ankou fans. That’s all I’ll say. I hope he’s treated better in the fandisc. As for the Salvation ending, I loved how we got to check in on all the characters and see conclusions for everybody! I also felt like it was a clichéd, yet tasteful happy ending! 9.5/10

Overall Thoughts 🥀

This game is incredibly painful to play through. I would say that for some people, some of these salvation endings will not be seen as true good endings. For the sake of not spoiling too much, I won’t be going into detail on my thoughts of what qualifies as a good ending here. I will be soon though, so keep an eye out for that post if you want more detailed thoughts. This game isn’t for the weak of heart, but if you can handle everything it truly is amazingly written and a wonderful story to have experienced. It has easily become my favorite otome even with all the pain and despair. It was so hard to rank routes and LIs due to how much I genuinely enjoyed all of them. My recommended route order is going to be the order I played the game in: Mathis->Lucas->Scien->Yves->Le Salut. I do recommend after finishing Le Salut to just tackle the salvation endings from least excited for to most. That’s what I did and I’m glad I did so. I’m going to guess that I have an unpopular opinion of the whack science in the story or the clichéd troupes and plot devices. I cried, I laughed, I felt despair, I felt love, and I truly enjoyed my time playing through Virche Evermore -ErroR:Salvation-.

I don’t have anyone to talk about the show with besides my mom who watches it with me but I still have Yellowstone brainrot. Again I’m a Beth girlie but it’s nice to talk to others in the fandom and discuss. I think the show is great because they’re all such victims of each other and the family dynamics are just horrifically toxic. Every relationship John has with his children is abusive and volatile in some degree. Branding Kayce because he disobeyed him. Pushing and punishing Jamie because he’s not who he wants him to be, sending him away to college when that’s not what he wanted. Beth is extremely loyal to him to her own detriment because I personally feel like she’s trying to make up for killing her mother and taking his wife away from him, but no matter how much she tries she won’t ever make that up in John’s eyes. Anyways, you have a good one 💕

ok first I wanna go back to Beth lmfao. god she has such depth to her and I feel like we’ve been cheated by T.Sher so badly. Her trauma is unreal and so unprocessed and so unexplored and it’s not faaaair. When it’s Christmas and she is terrified of what’s happening to her??? puberty and she’s terrified, my poor child, I felt so sad that that was such a scary moment for her and then she was already in pain too and her mom was just like “now I have to make sure you’ll survive this man’s mans world and make you ultra haaaard” that made me so sad because I feel like she already was trying so hard to survive as a child. then the flashback to her mothers death. Genuinely I still feel so much rage over it. She was clearly uncomfortable and did not want to be on this big animal that she wasn’t comfortable controlling and unsure of being on and her mom just idk completely disregarded her and basically told her “you’re shit outta luck man up” like girl what??? Your young daughter is feeling very unsafe on a dangerous animal, I get pushing your kids to face their fears but like why did it have to be a joke to East Jesus nowhere??? Then ITS NOT EVEN BETH’S FAULT, Evelyn’s horse spooks(it’s not even looking at Beth, Beth does nothing wrong and nothing at all to affect her horse) but yeah it spooks it’s fucking self and obviously crushes her but Beth is already weeping and scared and blaming herself and Kayce is so intune with the needs of everyone so he pleads for her to let him go get John and she LOCKS EYES WITH BETH AND BLAMES HER!!! straight up is like nah Beth’s the reason my horse spooked it’s her fault my horse crushed me she made this mistake being a completely normal scared child she has to fix this mistake

Beth didn’t even hardly know the way back her horse bucks her off, she gets hurt she runs back she’s already internalizing the grief of this unfair blame she’s saddled with and then what happens???? JOHN YELLS AT HEEEEER. crying screaming throwing up dyyyyying. home girl literally got blamed by her mom for killing her and then he dad yells at her for crying and being hurt and scared oh my gosh I’m so mad lmao. Um…. but yeah. Beth clearly struggled with anxiety and security at a young age and I think she wanted to make her mother proud and prove she was hard enough to survive “with the boys” so she could survive her own survivors guilt that Evelyn forced her to experience maybe???

also yeah!!! I do think John blamed Beth for his wife’s death and she’s desperate to make up for it but also resents John for moving on with any other woman because I think he made sure she felt she was responsible for Evelyn’s death and his unhappiness afterwards— maybe somehow that ties into like her resentment of what Jamie did to her too? Like maybe it triggers this massive guilt in her where she subconsciously thinks well fuck I stole my fathers happiness so my brother stole mine??? God idk what even is meta? Probably not this lol.

not me writing a novel on Beth’s childhood… but then a few years pass and she asks Jamie for help and yeah he fucks it up because well idk part of me does feel it was lazy writing on Tshers behalf again, because they had to be teens in the 90s and sterilization on Rez’s stopped in the 70’s I’m pretty sure idk still. But also like I just think with the fear of failing and the deep rooted trauma of “inate otherness” that Jamie clearly carried around from a young age I just don’t genuinely feel like it was in his character to allow Beth to suffer like that. He would’ve spoken up or argued with her about how he wouldn’t let her go in that clinic. They would’ve fought like shit but he would’ve convinced her that John finding out was better than being cheated out of motherhood and idk Beth and Jamie are just so goddamn conniving (in a good way) that they would’ve saved Rip from John’s wrath.

John’s undying love for the land and his egos unquenchable thirst for false pride and accolades is definitely his downfall as a father in my mind. They definitely are all victims of one another’s traumas and John’s refusal to acknowledge he’s the creator or root/epicenter of it all. All the siblings deserve so much better and I’ll never forgive the writing for completely wiping Lee out of the story too!!!

I also think about how if this is along the storyline that the Rez is still sterilizing women then John was completely ok with Kayce forcing that torture and agony on Monica if it meant protecting the pride of his ranch. But suddenly he’s upset Jamie took Beth there, like is he blind to his own double standards? Fuck but I love johns depth too. They’re all so weirdly complex and i end up thinking damn this man has a lifetime of unfiltered and unfinished trauma too aaaaaaaaahhhhh. I want to write all the things with Beth and John and Jamie lol. They sooth the shallow waters of my weird little soul soil.

sorry I ramble so badly, I can’t tell if that’s the adhd working or if I’m really just bad at staying on track because everything reminds me of something else and then I can’t find my way back to the circles beginning!
