A major player in the production of the Cars Franchise, especially as Lightning McQueen’s lead animator in Cars 3, Cat Hicks, has unfortunately been laid off after 15+ years of service at Pixar.
Tumblr media
This week’s devastating layoffs at Pixar are yet another symptom of chaos and uncertainty in the animation industry. Many of those familiar with it, myself included, agree that this is the worst state the industry has ever been in in its history… due to corporate greed, and profit-over-creativity.
Please be vocal in your support for animators and creatives. It’s likely going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

My favorite animated movies of the 21st century (in no particular order)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To note: these are movies I LOVED, so movies I REALLY LIKED are not part of this, otherwise this movie would be longer. And this post was made with western films in mind, but I'd have to sit and think about if there are any non-western films I'd add to the "LOVE" list.

Sadness and Joy being Happy for the Early Plans of Inside Out 3.
Woody, Buzz and Lightning McQueen are happy for them both and the other emotions and Inside Out characters, and having them planned as the running successor of Toy Story and Cars.
Inside Out is potentially going to not only be this generation's Toy Story, but this generation's Cars as well. I know the Cars films (Including the first one) are somewhat aimed to younger kids compared to the other films from the studio that came out before and since, but I still like it, I understand some may not be into it.
(This is my fan-headcanon, the "Toon-iverse", and I already did a few posts based on the idea, like acting in films and character interviews, 1 of each on Tumblr to be exact) (This is NOT canon to the world of the animated movies themselves, not even just Pixar, but many of them from other studios in general. This is a seperate continuity, a fan one)
All rights go to Disney/Pixar (C)

Tiny Review: Inside Out 2 2024. Get Your Emotions Ready For This!
Tumblr media
I like the puns.
I like the conflict of trying to fit in with new friends with new emotions(who she is trying to be), and trying to hold on to old friends with old emotions(who she was).
I like the cautionary tale of letting one emotion be in charge of everything(except joy).
And the more I think of it, the more I like that, in each of us is a team of emotions that all want the best for us. We have to listen to all of them, not just one, accept who we really are, flaws and all, and try to be the best us.
And that knowing whether Riley makes the team isn’t the point of this story.
What I think was a missed opportunity was to show Anxiety as the last strength of emotion, together with all the other emotions, to show she realised her misguided belief, to pull out the misguided Sense Of Self.
Settingwise, introducing new characters opens up a lot of inconsistencies. But also opens more opportunities for future stories. Like I always believe, if the story is good, the audience will suspend disbelief. This is a great example.
Excitedly looking forward to the next one.

This may not be a popular opinion on tumblr, but I'm really sick and tired of seeing people say they want John Lasseter back. Like yeah, maybe the films feel different now, but Lasseter is both a terrible worker and likely a terrible person. He's been accused of "sexual misconduct, he fired the original director of Brave and gave us the cliched mess we got in the final product, and his coworkers who worked with him on Luck also called him out for some incompetent work at Skydance like sleeping on the job and like with Brave, also changed what could've been a better story for Luck. Not to mention, he directed Cars 2? And was still in charge of Pixar when it was already getting backlash for most of its films of the 2010 era? Are you people seriously going to pretend like 2010s Pixar was perfect just because the Toy Story guy is gone? Y'all straight up bullshitting.
I see this same shit with Justin Roiland. Even though the domestic violence has been seemingly debunked, he still groomed minors and was toxic to work with. Yet people ignore all of that because he made their favorite cartoon. Yes, I may not have any hope for Rick and Morty at this point because the guy that made the first two seasons worth watching is no longer there and will stay away from the show for the foreseeable future, but saying you want the creator back after all the bullshit that has been pretty much proven with him is really gross and blatantly ignorant.
But back to Pixar, I do understand that Pixar does feel different with John Lasseter gone, both in good ways and bad ways. Good because they're making more original movies, but bad because I am not fond of the new skrunkly cartoony style they're using for films like Luca, Elio, and Turning Red. I know they're trying something new, but it looks like a mix of Sony and Aardman so it's not something groundbreaking like Spiderverse and Nimona. I wouldn't say that their stories are better than the 2010s era for the most part except for Soul, which was a good movie. I think what Pixar needs at this point is to distance themselves from Disney and maybe get some better people to helm the studio. I don't think Pete Doctor is really doing a great job right now and maybe he should get back to directing? Maybe being chief creative officer is too much for him. He also clapped back at the negative reviews for Lightyear and Elemental instead of understanding the viewpoints of the audience. I'm glad to see some new workers working at Pixar, but I do wish we got someone who can help the writers tell and structure stories better. I think a lot of that problem falls on Disney, though.
Just to say, I like the concepts of some of the new pixar films like Luca and Onward, but the execution turned out to be really bland.
