I also headcanon that Cutler is somewhat on the aroace spectrum; it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to him why people willing engage in sexual intercourse or love marriages (like Will and Elizabeth). Political marriages make sense and it's the duty of the husband to make sure to sire an aire, but the desire to do either of those outside the constraints of polite society is foreign and somewhat unwanted

Cutler is married to his position in the EITC and his duties and titles will ALWAYS come first. His romantic partner will have to accept this because he is literally not going to change... And there's nothing they can do about it. This also means that if his partner were to get in the way of him achieving a goal or receiving a promotion, then his partner would have to go. Immediately.

Gift giving is Cutler's preferred giving love language. It's simple and most people like the same gifts, especially if they are made with expensive metals, so there is not a lot of dwelling or worrying about what to get for his partner. If his partner hated the gift, he'd simply sell it and, surprisingly, would not be offended. He wants his partner to have the best of the best and if they didn't like the present, then it obviously wasn't the best. Acts of service is, unsurprisingly, Cutler's preferred receiving love language.

It is extremely hard to get the man to emote. He has crafted walls so high and so thick that nobody has even come close to scaling them. A partner that countered this, someone who was not afraid to be affectionate, who was outspoken, who was the opposite of Cutler, would honestly be someone that would catch Cutler's eye. Whether or not Cutler would want to take that emotion away from his partner or if he wanted to learn from his partner would entirely depend upon the day.

Ian Mercer is the only one that knows of Cutler's "proclivities". He has sworn to take that secret to his grave, just like so many other of Cutler's secrets

・One of the crew on the Queen Anne's Revenge. Angelica had taken you under her wing. At first you thought you were going to move up in the ranks, become a better pirate; learn, grow, better yourself etc.

・It wasn't long before you realised the danger that you were truly in.

・No matter how eager Angelica was to protect you; she could barely protect herself.

・But you did fall head over heels for Jack Sparrow. Sorry, Captain Jack Sparrow.

・You saw the charm he exuded and fell under it immediately. Willingly, of course. As the Queen Anne was no longer an option for you.

・Escape was your only option. But you bid your time, waiting for the opportune moment...

・You made it to Whitecap Bay with the rest of the crew. Where you had been made to capture a mermaid.

・The creatures were nothing like you had been told. They were terrifying. Dangerous. Unpredictable. But incredibly alluring.

・You didn't want to hurt them - you were hoping one would drag you down to the depths below.

・You had so many questions for them; they could clearly communicate, and were intelligent creatures.

・When Syrena had been captured, you were conflicted; sad for her but ... excited at the opportunity for your questions to be answered.

・And you knew you were going to help her escape anyway.

・It was difficult to explain that to her though

・But you did everything to show her, you weren't a threat. Just someone lonely, someone desperate to have a close friend.

・Syrena understood. Her english was broken but you two began a great friendship. Asking about her life, her family. You just had so many goddamn questions.

・But sometimes it was really difficult to talk to her.

・She was heavily guarded. Evren the Priest had trouble getting to her for a while.

・Goddamn that Priest ...

・You were jealous of the time he was spending with her

・But you thought it would be best to team up with him and help the siren escape. He was incredibly surprised by this, but admired your courage.

・So, it was agreed that at the opportune moment you three would make a break for it.

・And like hell you did.

・Amongst the chaos, you were able to get away from the main conflict and get each other somewhere safe.

・Then Syrena had a proposal. Of you two to come with her. Into the depths.

・You said yes instantly.

・Wrapping both arms around the two of you, she dragged you under and gave you the kiss of life - you were able to breathe under water. To see clearly, but you felt your clothes weigh you down.

・You looked over at the Priest (you always called him that, even though you knew his real name).

・And he was absolutely shocked, but his smile soon mirrored your own.
