HEY guess who's being completely normal about episode 7 :)

anyway it sure ain't me, so I made myself a baby Malleus! I used the single-headed version of Choly Knight's hydra pattern (link will be in replies ↓↓↓) as a base, and just messed with some of the pieces to make him more Mall-y. including sewing all those little claw pieces, then pinning them on and realizing I actually liked him better without them...oh well. to heck with accuracy, I want stubby little dragon legs!

unfortunately, he doesn't photograph very well, especially his forehead scales (they're there! I promise!) (they're made of glitter HTV so they are actually SPARKLY in real life, yet apparently they come out completely invisible in photos, woe). but he is super cuddly and soft so I'm happy with him! just as in canon, he is a product of LOVE. :>

I'm swinging in very late to @slocotion 's DIY Plague Doctor Contest for December! This month the theme was Fruits/Vegetables so I based mine off of a tomato, taking themes from the famous tomato pincushion with the little strawberry (or pepper) at the end!

The mask shape really reminded me of the strawberry/pepper bit!

I feel like a lot of cross-stitch is very intuitive to pick up. I never took a class or read a tutorial. I started, successfully made things in all kinds of suboptimal ways, and then learned easier ways through experience and brief forays into the internet. I’m happy being an amateur, because it’s a little relaxing, almost, to choose a path of allowing mistakes to happen.

But this pin stitch tutorial blew my mind—most specifically the angled pin stitch tutorial shown beneath the normal pin stitch. It’s a brilliant alternative to burying your start/end stitch under the threads along the back (let alone knots, which I did sadly do as a noob kid).

Me being me, I tweaked it into an extra paranoid double-reinforced thread bury but I admittedly have a Problem™️

A Personal Adonis (Cross Stitch Patch)

Based on a painting by @emptyshellofanillusionwizard

Pixel art pattern development and stitching done by me!

first off we have the back side of the patch for you freaks out there who like that or whatever (it’s me i’m freaks)

I always really admire the wrong side of cross stitch pieces i think it’s just like really cool to contrast the messsy blob of random threads and stitches and then seeing how beautiful the front looks in comparison. can’t have one side without the other!

here’s the pixel art piece i made ! This definitely took the longest, i went back and forth tweaking the curves and colors for soooo long. i made it in procreate mostly because it was convenient, i don’t know if it’s the best program for pixel art but i made it work well enough! you’ll notice the colors are pretty different than the final piece. color matching thread is a pain, it’s hard to get things exactly right. i’m pretty happy with the threads i picked over all but i wish i was able to find more teal shades that matched my gradient so it would look a bit more readable as marble. also some of the darker colors are a bit too similar. i might make this design again on a smaller scale (this piece is about 8 inches long! it’s about 50x100 pixels done on 14 Aida cross stitch fabric. if there is a next time i want to do it in a smaller weave fabric) and that will give me a chance to work on the colors.

And here’s a couple progress photos! I was regularly sending my girlfriend pictures while i worked on it so i have way more but here’s the main checkpoints. the final picture is the finished patch but without the red lines if you want a clear look at the full stitching.

Unfortunately I don’t have much of my egl wardrobe with me here, and what I do have doesn’t coordinate well at all, so I’ve settled on this normie dress for photos ^^; but I wanted to share the headdress in motion to showcase how the pink “blushes” in the light!

It still doesn’t fully come through, but it gives some general idea. In some light the lettering is almost invisible ^^ This is my first completed personal piece of the year I think, so I’ve been excited about it.
