Untitled Cartoon Villainess RPG

That's not a cheeky name for it, I just dunno what to call it yet. Send suggestions?

This is a storytelling RPG for one or more players. All it requires is a single coin (or other random implement, you can adjust odds as you please.)

The flavor of this explanation is intentionally vague, but you can do a lot with these rules! Superhero and Magical Girl settings are especially easy with this framework, but my first playtest was about a group of Phantom Thieves fighting an evil CEO, and you can also use it to roleplay a space epic, write a serious murder mystery, or put your favorite toxic age gap yuri ship through new and exciting sexual traumas.

You play as the Villainess from a Saturday morning cartoon, and you'll fight a small group of Heroines (usually at least 2). Describe one power each character has, and describe their personality and appearance in a single sentence if possible. Once the characters are ready, you'll play through several episodes - roughly the same number as you have characters prepared, maybe a bit more. Every Episode, you'll describe what your Villainess is planning to do - this is just a small step in a larger, secret plan you may not have revealed/decided on yet, but in the moment, it's the focus of the episode. Then, describe any special methods the Heroines might plan on using to stop you. Once you have a vague idea of what success and failure looks like, it's time to determine which happens...

For normal Episodes, you'll be flipping two coins. The Villainess will always get away, but whether or not the Heroines thwart her plans comes up to luck. The first flip determines whether the Villainess gets what she wants. If she does, the second flip determines if she's able to Compromise* a Heroine. If she doesn't, the second flip determines if the Heroines find a new Power**. In each case, Heads is in favor of the Villainess, and Tails in in favor of the Heroines. In the Final Episode, only one coin is needed. The Villainess will always be defeated in the Final Episode, (whether this means arrested or killed depends on the genre) but the final coin flip determines whether she gets what she wants, even for a moment. From the beginning, she's had a grand plan, she's wanted to change the world, and this is when you reveal what it was she wanted. If the flip is heads, she goes down gracefully, leaving a permanent mark on the setting. If the flip is tails, her dreams are crushed by the Heroines, and her story becomes a tragedy. *Compromising a Heroine can look many ways. Maybe you find a weakness, or her secret identity. Maybe she's injured, and can't appear next Episode. Maybe you're able to use her against her teammates. Each time you Compromise a Heroine, consider picking a new one, to spread the love. **Powers can take multiple forms. They can be abilities, resources, or relationships. They can even be new allies!

When you're all finished, or after each Episode, try writing the plot down or expanding it with a short story!
