thinking about love in danger days

this is part of my conspiracy theory that that album is aroallo, but i've always gotten the sense that romance and romantic attatchment is much less important to danger days than any other mcr record. with bullets&revenge it's quite obvious as the demolition lovers take up like, everything, and the black parade has a heavy focus on a romantic relationship as well. 

while i do think there are lines in it that are romantically coded, there is a definitive lack of emphasis on it- like it's nowhere in the plot at all. 

i do think danger days represents a very familial type of love though. while other albums visit a sense of "i want you, i need you, i miss you, i hate you,", this is more like…"i love you, i want to protect you, i'm sorry"

i find this especially strongly in s/c/a/r/e/c/r/o/w:

"Nevermind about the shape i'm in, I'll keep you safe tonight"

"love, love, love won't stop this bomb"

"run, run, bunny, run"

and other songs: 

"i'll find you when the sun goes black"

"just save yourself and i'll hold them back tonight"

"how long until we find our way in the dark and out of harm"

relevant things i can't cover with just quotes are planetary go, oft-theorized to be about party poison and kobra kid, as brothers, leaving battery city together; sing, about the killjoys' last message to the girl while saving her; goodnite dr. death, phrased as him saying goodnight to children; and summertime, which i can't discern the meaning of but seems more like a family type of love. 

i think it makes sense that danger days is like this, seeing as it features main characters that take care of a child main character as opposed to main characters that love other main characters of the same age/ability. 

another thing i noticed while re-listening to the more sentimental songs for this essay is that there's just a distinctly different vibe to it. So much of it is focused around wanting to protect people, keep them safe and out of danger (<- ha that's the name of the album) and loved. i think this also makes sense, because the killjoys live a very, well, dangerous life without much security, and they'd want to provide what they lack the most. another semi-related thing i noticed is just how much of an emphasis there is on childhood in this album. i feel like there's a vibe of youth or teen-hood throughout the earlier ones, but this is just VERY strongly about kids. again this makes sense cause not only are the killjoys teenagers (a type of kid!) they also have a proper little kid to watch. 

also, i wonder how much of this stuff was due to gerard becoming a parent. just something to think about

i love nemona's name so much

she is named after nemophilas which is a very pretty flower and also means woodland loving (you get woodland from νέμος or nemos and get loving from philio) and im taking this as fuel for me being a nemona sprigatito truther

there is also nemo which means nobody which HURTS ME along with nemona being an anagram of no name and also point nemo which is "the loneliest place on earth" because it's the furthest place from land on the planet

and her story is about loneliness and im gonna throw up

her spanish name is less interesting to me than nemona and nemo but mencia is suuuch a pretty name and is also a kind of wine grape!

I really appreciate the holiday itself. Love is a wonderful feeling in almost any of its variations and this is a good opportunity to remind close ones, friends and partners of your affection for them. Such opportunities are worth taking advantage of.

“Laughter is good for healing! And Khalida needed all the healing she could get.” The Chirurgeon gestured to the large woman who somehow made bandages accessorise perfectly with formal kevlar. “And I did get the laugh.”

“Oh yeah.” The Combat Adjuster said, deadpan, gesturing down to her injury. “I was in *stitches*.”

Zeus guarantees all bonds of friendship as Zeus Philios and, above all, these inter-state bonds, as a sort of religious Red Cross. Nausicaa knows that ‘All xenoi and beggars are from Zeus’, a line which Odysseus himself picks up at 14.251 and which, a millennium later, was a favourite line of the pagan emperor Julian when he hammered home the point that pagans should not leave Christians a monopoly on charity. Xenia is the relationship of reciprocal hospitality between persons of different states, and both parties are known as a xenos, regardless of who is the host and who the guest on any particular occasion. huevember day 2: h @ 12 - clay - mangan-diaspore

mangan-diaspore is, as the name suggests, a manganese-bearing form of diaspore. the most "perfect" diaspore crystals form in long hexagonal spikes, sometimes twinning into little hearts, but most of the mangan-diaspore samples ive seen are clustered together in a tangle, or layered in blobs that kinda look like raw meat. clay is haven's next older brother by about a year, and is the one who stepped up to take over the annoying parts of raising everyone when their parents died, this had... limited amounts of success, and mostly just gave him stress-induced health issues and seething resentment towards everyone in his life older than him. he picked up smoking in college (when this drawing is set), which he didn't manage to kick until he had a kid. mangan-diaspore is his assigned mineral, because his theme color is vivid red and im pretentious about picking niche minerals.

day 3: h @ 24 - flint - lithiophilite

lithiophilite is a lithium-manganese-phospate mineral commonly found in lithium deposits (hence the name- lithium + philios, greek for "friend"). it rarely forms crystals, but when it does they show up in these tiny elegant starburst structures, which i find extremely charming. they're also symbolically relevant to the character they're aligned with: flint is haven's youngest brother, and is one of the true Protagonists of their Destined Story, which took place when he was 11. he has spent the rest of his life trying to live up to the precedent that set. he's wondering if everyone's "faith in his abilities" will outweigh their desire to make him a celebrity enough to let him drop out of school and run off to live in a remote cabin in the mountains somewhere, never to be seen again.
