So the upcoming Spongebob Christmas special was released early on dvd if you live anywhere outside of the states. I had zero self control and so I watched it because I just HAD to see stop motion Slappy <3

LOOK AT HIM!! HES SO CUUUUUTE!!!! I will sell my kidney some day to have the funds to buy the Slappy puppet someday. That's my dream <3

The stop motion SB specials are nothing new but I have a feeling Slappy was thrown in for comvience. I predict they likely made him for an unamed halloween special and out of convience slipped his puppet into the Christmas special.

Something I did want to mention is the fact that the SB stop motion holiday specials are inspired by the Rankin Bass stop motion holiday specials which I think is neat. There is already a Rankin Bass Peter Lorre character which you all already know of and that is Yetch from Mad Monster Party

I dream of someday having both puppets meet. In my heart I would be smashing them together like dolls making them fight.

Also, I like that this version of the song so far is more practical than the normal 12 days of Christmas, since the different categories of "gifts" have a lot of overlap, like Slappy constituting both a creepy fish and zombie butler

My god I KNOW this comic!! We had an old dog-eared Dutch version of Mad Magazine lying in our holiday apartment in Switzerland for decades and THIS spoof was in it!!

This is SUCH a trip down memory lane: I can still remember Bogart’s lines in Dutch (‘ik rook! Ik drink! Ik weet niet of ik zo lang nog zal leven!’) and leafing through this edition, reading this comic over and over every time we came there to go skiing or hiking. I remember how Mort Drucker’s caricatures scared me as a kid, I got nightmares from them!

Dear lord I never knew Lorre had been with me since the very beginning! I must have been five when I first could read and I read EVERYTHING, including this comic. Seeing this and remembering every nib pen line of this comic and realising how often I must have read it (we had that apartment until I was 16 years old and I must have read that magazine every single goddamn year) is just so surreal!

I like to imagine Slappy from Spongebob and Yetch from Mad Monster Party would have some beef. Mostly one sided but still.

They're both zombie Peter Lorre parodies who both have the same jobs (butler for a famous horror movie character) and both have a red headed love interest (Slippy and Francesca). One is better at their job than the other and one has a much more successful relationship than the other. Also they both share the same reoccurring gag of getting decapitated.

I just love petty rivalries, there isn't much else to it. I particularly like the idea of Yetch unreasonably hating Slaps because he has everything Yetch wants, while Slappy purposely keeps provoking Yetch for shits and giggles but keeps playing innocent.

In other words, I want to see these two fight to the death (can they die?)

Random thoughts but sometimes I like to imagine what Lorre caricature would look closest to a specific character that Lorre has played.

This thought came about because I was thinking that Yetch has the same haircut as when Lorre played Raskolnikov.

I do try to think of others. I genuinely don't know where to place Slappy. I know when I make a Slappy gijinka, I use Editor Stix as reference because I think that was when Lorre was the cutest but I know that isn't right.

My friend @froskii absolutely REFUSES to watch Comedy of Terrors with me because they didn't want to start associating Slappy being an old man. I know Slaps is definitely not young but I refuse to acknowledge that a lot of the time. I can't be caught simping for GILFS on main! However just to terrorize Froskii, I think Slappy would look like Felix Gillies. They both work in the funeral industry anyways.

I do like that a lot of shows have referenced/parodied Inside Out.

Granted the Simpsons have done this kind of joke lots of times before. (Here are some episode examples:

Diatribe of a Mad Housewife

We're on the Road to D'oh-where

The Blue and the Gray)

But to do it specifically as a reference to Inside Out and with their cast representing the emotions is cleverly done. Plus it's a hundred times better then what Family Guy did.

Seriously? Was it too much trouble to put someone like Mort Goldman as Fear?
