that's wild! makes sense that it's ground squirrels, other animals in that family are also known to hunt and kill rodents. wild that this is an emerging behavior!

It’s Wednesday, so hang in there like the bank vole (Myodes glareolus)! Though it resembles a mouse, this species is distinguished by a shorter tail and stockier build. Mostly herbivorous, it’s a proficient climber that uses acrobatic skill to reach seeds and fruits. Its diet also includes moss, fungi, and nuts. Weighing up to 1.27 oz (36 g), this diminutive critter can be found across most of Europe as well as parts of Asia.

The other night I saw something on the livestream from the corner of my eye but then could not find the clip, but it was finally captured! On the right you see a vole that is living under the bath, coming in for a drink. This is edited and I slowed him down in between. Such a hilarious creature! (It may be a mole possibly, we do have both and I kind of assumed this was a vole because I am not seeing the typical mole "hands". The snout is quite pointy though.)
