I had zero idea if what to expect going into this so I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. I know at some point youth I picked up this weird bias that if it wasn't one of the Big Two it probably wouldn't be good so I still find myself struggling to unpack that. While all the costumes in this are bordering on extremely generic, there's nothing glaringly wrong with them. I realized that this is in the middle of some grander arc, but this is the struggle of picking up 90s comics in yard sale lots and not getting the whole story.

FAVORITE: The naked staredown from Harada is one of the greatest out of context comic panels of all time

LEAST FAVORITE: I'm genuinely unsure about this "feminism is for women in the hard sciences" panel, like were they actually trying to make points about STEM discrimination against women or was it just cultural shorthand to add easy depth to the character?

Peter Lorre played Klotz, a trigger-happy thug.

Klotz was a small and underwritten role, and Peter wasn't happy with it. So, naturally, he made his character a frustrated sex maniac. :D

Willkommen im Erwachsensein (DDF-fic)

Irgendwie war Peter hier gelandet, gestrandet, eher. Von fern rauschten die Wellen, krachten mit zu viel Kraft gegen den Strand und die Kaimauer. Das Meer war aufgewühlt heute. Wenn Peter wirklich aus den großen Fenstern des Cafés rausschauen würde, würde er Schaumkronen auf ihr hüpfen sehen. Dunkel, eine unendliche Weite von Grau, schien sich in Himmel und Wasser gegenseitig zu spiegeln. 

Draußen waren die Tische, Stühle und Sonnenschirme bereits reingebracht worden. Als Peter angesprintet kam, war die Kellnerin gerade damit beschäftigt gewesen. An jedem anderen Tag hätte Peter - immer der Kavalier - selbstverständlich seine Hilfe angeboten.

Die drei Freunde waren hier Stammgäste, und es war besonders sein Lieblingscafé. Wie viele glückliche Stunden hatte er hier verbracht?

Seine Limo schmeckte… nach nichts. Wie auf Autopilot hatte er geordert. Minze-Limette-Blaubeere, hausgemacht. Peter sah die Blätter, frisch gezupft; er sah die Zitrusfrucht im aufgefüllten Wasser schwimmen; er sah die lila Farbe des Pürees. Aber sah er es? Oder war es einfach nur die Erinnerung? Der Jugendliche wollte sich auf das Hier und Jetzt konzentrieren, seine Gedanken und Gefühle ordnen, endlich die Kühle und Frische des Getränks schmecken.

Buster Keaton (The General, The Navigator, Sherlock Jr.)—For me Buster’s hotness comes not just from his physical beauty but in the constant surprise and contradictions of the man, he’s simultaneously delicate/rough, feminine/masculine, confident/vulnerable, 5foot5 pretty face with an unexpectedly deep voice, at first glance you think oh he’s a cute little thing and then he takes his top off and it’s Superman abs underneath. He was intensely shy in social situations but had no hesitation in jumping off the top of a building. He famously never smiled on screen* but he exudes warmth and joy and laughter. He created some of the most beautiful, intelligent movies ever made but refused to acknowledge his own genius and talent as an artist, instead maintaining that all he wanted to do was make people laugh. If he was here in reality competing in this poll he would give it 100% but he would not be at all bothered if he didn’t win. And that’s why he’s the hottest vintage man. A vote for Buster is a vote for all that is good and decent in the world 💕 (*he did smile on camera occasionally despite his own assertions to the contrary 😄)

Exclusivo: o planeta caminha para pelo menos 2,5°C de aquecimento com resultados desastrosos para a humanidade, descobriu uma pesquisa com centenas de cientistas.

Centenas dos principais cientistas climáticos do mundo esperam que as temperaturas globais subam para pelo menos 2,5°C (4,5°F) acima dos níveis pré-industriais neste século, ultrapassando as metas acordadas internacionalmente e causando consequências catastróficas para a humanidade e o planeta, revelou uma pesquisa exclusiva do Guardian.

Quase 80% dos entrevistados, todos do renomado Painel Intergovernamental sobre Mudanças Climáticas (IPCC), preveem pelo menos 2,5°C de aquecimento global, enquanto quase metade prevê pelo menos 3°C (5,4°F). Apenas 6% consideraram que o limite internacionalmente acordado de 1,5°C (2,7°F) seria cumprido.

Muitos dos cientistas preveem um futuro “semi-distópico”, com fomes, conflitos e migrações em massa, impulsionados por ondas de calor, incêndios florestais, inundações e tempestades com uma intensidade e frequência muito superiores às que já ocorreram. Numerosos especialistas afirmaram que se sentiram desesperados, enfurecidos e assustados com o fracasso dos governos em agir, apesar das claras evidências científicas fornecidas.

“Penso que estamos a caminhar para uma grande perturbação social nos próximos cinco anos”, disse Gretta Pecl, da Universidade da Tasmânia. “[As autoridades] ficarão sobrecarregadas com evento extremo após evento extremo, a produção de alimentos ser�� interrompida. Eu não poderia sentir maior desespero em relação ao futuro.”

Mas muitos disseram que a luta climática deve continuar, por mais elevada que seja a temperatura global, porque cada fracção de grau evitada reduziria o sofrimento humano.

Peter Cox, da Universidade de Exeter, no Reino Unido, afirmou: “As alterações climáticas não se tornarão repentinamente perigosas a 1,5ºC – já o são. E não será um ‘fim de jogo’ se passarmos de 2C, o que podemos muito bem fazer.”

O Guardian abordou todos os principais autores ou editores de revisão contactáveis dos relatórios do IPCC desde 2018. Quase metade respondeu, 380 de 843. Os relatórios do IPCC são as avaliações padrão-ouro das alterações climáticas, aprovadas por todos os governos e produzidas por especialistas em ciências físicas e sociais. Os resultados mostram que muitas das pessoas mais bem informadas do planeta esperam que a destruição climática se desenvolva nas próximas décadas. A crise climática já está a causar danos profundos a vidas e meios de subsistência em todo o mundo, com apenas 1,2ºC (2,16ºF) de aquecimento global, em média, nos últimos quatro anos. Jesse Keenan, da Universidade de Tulane, nos EUA, disse: “Este é apenas o começo: apertem os cintos”.

Nathalie Hilmi, do Centro Científico de Mônaco, que espera um aumento de 3ºC, concordou: “Não podemos ficar abaixo de 1,5ºC”.

Os especialistas afirmaram que os preparativos massivos para proteger as pessoas dos piores desastres climáticos que se avizinham são agora críticos. Letícia Cotrim da Cunha, da Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, disse: “Estou extremamente preocupada com os custos em vidas humanas”.

A meta de 1,5ºC foi escolhida para prevenir o pior da crise climática e tem sido vista como uma importante estrela orientadora para as negociações internacionais. Und das Jahr ging weiter und die Bauern säten und schnitten, der Müller mahlte, die Schmiede hämmerte und die Bergleute gruben weiter nach Metalladern in ihrer unterirdischen Werkstatt. Als aber die Bergleute in Falun nach vielen Jahren, wieder um die Zeit des Johannistags, zwischen zwei Schächten eine Öffnung durchgraben wollten, gute dreihundert Ellen tief unter dem Boden, da gruben sie aus dem Schutt und Vitriolwasser den Leichnam eines Jünglings heraus, der ganz mit Eisenvitriol durchdrungen, sonst aber unverwest und unverändert war. Und als sie seine Gesichtszüge und sein junges Alter sahen, kam es ihnen vor, als wenn er erst vor einer Stunde gestorben oder nur ein wenig eingeschlafen wäre bei der Arbeit. Als man ihn dann zutage gefördert hatte, Vater und Mutter, Freunde und Bekannte waren ja schon lange tot, wollte kein Mensch den schlafenden Jüngling kennen oder etwas von seinem Unglück wissen. Da erreichte die Nachricht vom geborgenen toten Bergmann auch die ehemalige Verlobte des Bergmannes, der eines Tages auf die Schicht gegangen war und nicht mehr zurückkehrte. Grau und zusammengeschrumpft kam sie an einer Krücke zum Platz und erkannte ihren Bräutigam und mehr mit freudigem Entzücken als mit Schmerz sank sie auf die geliebte Leiche nieder. Und erst als sie sich von einer langen heftigen Bewegung des Gemüts erholt hatte, sagte sie: »es ist mein Verlobter«. Weiter sagte sie: »Es ist mein Verlobter, um den ich fünfzig Jahre lang getrauert hatte und den mich Gott jetzt noch einmal sehen lässt vor dem Ende meiner Tage. Acht Tage vor unserer Hochzeit ist er auf die Grube gegangen und nicht mehr wieder gekommen.« Da wurden die Gemüter aller Umstehenden von Wehmut und Tränen ergriffen, als sie die ehemalige Braut, jetzt in der Gestalt des hingewelkten kraftlosen Alters, und den Bräutigam noch in seiner jugendlichen Schönheit sahen. Da entfachte sich in der Brust der Verlobten nach fünfzig Jahren wieder die Flamme der jugendlichen Liebe und sie wünschte sich, dass er noch einmal erwache, aber er öffnete den Mund nicht mehr zum Lächeln und die Augen blieben geschlossen zum Wiedererkennen. Sodann lies sie ihn von den Bergleuten in ihre Stube tragen, als die einzige, die ihm angehöre und ein Recht an ihm habe, bis sein Grab gerüstet wäre auf dem Friedhof. Am anderen Tag, als das Grab gerüstet war und die Bergleute den Leichnam wieder abholten, schloss sie ein kleines Kästchen auf, legte ihm das schwarz-seidene Halstuch mit roten Streifen um und begleitete ihn in ihrem Sonntagsgewand, als wenn es ihr Hochzeitstag und nicht der Tag seiner Beerdigung wäre. Als dann der Leichnam auf dem Kirchhof ins Grab gelegt wurde, sagte sie mit weinender Stimme: »Schlafe nun wohl, mein Lieber, noch einen Tag oder zehn im kühlen Hochzeitsbett, und las dir die Zeit nicht lang werden!
